In this semi-stalemate you could just retreat and leave things as they are, to recover and gather your strength, to return in force and achieve dominance without contest.
But where's the fun in that?
<span class="mu-b">"Do not lament your loss, I have faced much worse than you and was not nearly so endangered."</span>
Hefting the stone column then, you make a swimming charge for the kraken, backed up against the rising mountainside. He is still an immense danger to you and knows this, so won't give up without a fight. Readying himself even in his wounded state to try and finish what he started. But like his ink, there is more to you than meets the eye.
<span class="mu-b">"-HROAH!"</span>
Right before you make contact together, you heave internally for all you can muster, and bellow a mighty cry at the kraken. Same as other aquatic creatures able to vocalize over massive distances through the waters, only you are mere meters apart from your target. The emanating force echoing through the great octopus body as much as the oceanic medium you both share. The kraken is utterly stunned, giving you the chance to act unopposed.
Kicking off the ground then you jet through the water up and above the shuddering beast, lining up the column with the target and then driving it down with your body and your strength behind it. The initial whomp of impact with the kraken's body, and then the unmistakable squelch as the broken stone column penetrates through octopod flesh. You force it down until you can no longer, the kraken shrieking and flailing about all the time, and then for good measure you pound the column into the ground with an overhead blow of both clenched fists.
In effect you managed to nail the rival sea monster into the slope of the mountain, an impaling blow so severe that by the look of things he doesn't have the strength to remove himself. Great clouds of coppery blood and ink flood the area, as clear a sign as any that victory is yours. But whether you claim ultimate victory with his demise and finish the job... or take the path of mercy, is up to you. Of course even if you free him he may still just die later on from the wound you've dealt him, but leaving him here would make it a certainty.
<span class="mu-b">"...yes, yes... some king indeed..."</span>
In any case, you'd do well to make up your mind... after the fight and such exertion, your own wounds have taken their toll. You are exhausted nearing to the point of unconsciousness, if you don't take it easy or do something about your condition. At the very least you won't have to worry about being caught unawares; the remaining merfolk have long since fled by now. Probably reading the waters for the outcome of things here.
>What do you do?
