Before you depart, you herd your cows in a row.
When you drop by the office of the constabulary to formally hand things over to your father in your absence, you inform the Chief Watchman of the matter regarding the Demon Summoning. He nods along as you urge him to keep things quiet, despite the fear showing in his eyes. The Town Watch will continue as it has, though they will know to keep a closer eye out for the activities of cultists and the apostate. You leave him with a writ bearing your seal, allowing his detectives access to the castle archives, to give them better resources in digging for the heretic.
Your next order of business is a letter to your liege. The request for men-at-arms to reinforce your village comes at the end of a report, both on the purging of the tower and the incident at the warehouse. Unlike your explanation to the watch, you do not leave Rebecca's involvement out of your report to your liege. She was a trusted apprentice of Joana, and he needs to know to keep an eye out for her movements. You do ask that you would prefer he detained rather than killed, for she has not yet served out the penance that you promised her.
The whole missive is then enciphered following the Sunflower Code. Not by memory, you are not Joana, but you have a key that guides you in scrambling the message. Once that's done, you destroy the draft, seal the ciphered scroll, and send it off - not by post or courier, but by an animated statuette that Hilde crafted for sending priority missives.
The final matter is informing Father Durandal.
Unfortunately, you missed him. Had he been in the village these past few days, you suspect he would have spent much of his time harassing the King's favorite heretic with theological debates. He and Damien would have gotten on like a burning castle, and your castle would have been filled with such a terrible noise that your head would have been aching for the next several weeks. That he probably would have caught whiff of Rebecca's Demon Summoning before it got out of hand would have been a small mercy.
As he's off to some priestly conference at the Sunflower Diocese for the next few weeks, you decide to...
>Send your missive by courier.
>Send your missive by one of Hilde's animated statues.
>Leave the missive in his office.
