You're not sure how to even respond. Vincent is trying his best to comfort his mentor. "Deep breathes, deep breathes, just...it'll be over soon."
[DYING LIGHT] Confronting what you did wrong will always be hard. But he can move on. Anyone can.
"I'm sorry for this, Benedict." You pull out the blood red chef's torque and hold it for him to see. In a sudden swerve, he calms down almost immediately. Not in a good way, though. He sits there, vacantly staring right at it.
"I don't care what it told you. I'm not putting it back on, I discarded it for a reason." He grits his teeth. "Get that damn thing away from it. I ruined it."
"Ruined it?" You put it back on your belt. "I wasn't going to make you wear it but...could you clarify?"
There's another moment of silence. Benedict struggles to swallow as he tries to keep on talking. "I started caring more about being the best, being perfect, having the critics love my cooking over, well..." He sighs. "Enjoying what I did. To the point where I..."
[HOPELESS WRECK] CONSUMED. CONSUME.
He lets what he was going to say be left unsaid. "...when I did what I did, I ruined the promise I made. To be better than the other restaurants. The other chefs. To not hurt anyone with my business."
[DYING LIGHT] Being a good person is the hardest thing you can do.
Vincent shakes his head before patting the chef on the shoulder. "This place is filled with fuck ups. Hell, you're looking at one right now." He points at himself. "But, you can't change what happened."
You nod along, putting the hat away. "I actually have an offer. You might think it's silly but...how about you fulfill that promise of yours?" Honestly, he's done far worse as an anomaly, but you're not even sure how aware of it he was.
Benedict doesn't respond, waiting for you to continue. "Look. I won't imply whatever you did in the past was good. But you can move on. You can try to make up for the deeds you've done with other deeds."
"So, all I ask is that you work for me. A chef of your stature and experience working at this facility would be a great boon."
"Y-yeah! We also get weird extracts and ingredients all the time!" Vincent joins the conversation. "I had to cook the meat of a giant demon once!"
"You're asking me to...work with you?" The former chef confusingly asks. "I didn't expect...that, really. I'm not sure how much good I would be."
"It's simply an offer. You don't have to accept, I'm sure we can find somewhere else for you to be at. But, well, I want you to work for me."
[HOPELESS WRECK] FRANKLY, I'M CURIOUS TO SEE WHAT WEIRD BULLSHIT HE HAS LEFT OVER.
[DYING LIGHT] It's to give him another chance.
"C'mon, Benedict?" A slight whine makes itself known through Vincent.
It takes a bit but before you know it, Benedict extends a hand out towards you. You grab his hand and shake it. "I'll do it. If only to, I don't know, do anything. Being in a hospital bed rots your mind, ha..."
"Then it's settled. Get some rest."
