Battle erupted in the west as the east continued to be a fierce scuffle- though the Moskity to the east found their hasty attacks largely less effective. Gauthier’s platoon endured a shower of cannon fire- but their trenches and foxholes were too well prepared to be easily wounded. Showers of dirt and chipped wood pinged off of helmets, but the Dragoons held strong- no cries of wounded, only firm statements of health and readiness.
Rheiner’s platoon, weathering the attack of one T-8 barrage, was surprised by yet another- of greater power. Tank 2 was knocked out- though the crew, Rheiner noted, seemed to have escaped as their vehicle was ripped apart. He had little time to be relieved, as his own tank took a hit, and another in his platoon took a bad sounding and looking hit with a shower of sparks.
A check with his crew- the gun mantlet had been struck badly, but besides being rattled, the crew were alright.
This was no place to stay, he decided as he moved up the road.
