>>5764834>“You believe he’s telling the truth?” You ask Fritz. The dark mage appears to mull your question over for some time before answering. “Despite my current feelings and our troubles in the past…I had a great deal of respect for the man. He was someone who seemed to have genuine problems with how your Archbishop ran Fodlan. He rose from a simple clergyman to the head of his own Church to counter her. And I don’t believe it was all due to a hunger for power. Bennett was as true a believer as they came. Though I myself am no adherent of the Church, Bennett truly believed he was doing the right thing in wresting control of Fodlan from Rhea’s grasp.”
“Watch your mouth, you little shit.” Leopold spits. “You’re only alive due to my good grace. That can change at a moment’s notice.”
“As I was saying.” Fritz continues. “He was always an impressive guy. He had charisma, ambition, intelligence, and the ruthlessness needed to carry it all out. Even with his rather sudden fall from grace, I believe there are still traces of that intellect he once held. He was right about these ‘Agarthans’ and I’m afraid he may be right about Zanado. Even as someone who’s always been a nonbeliever, I find myself dreading what is going to happen there. Because even if it isn’t as he says it is, I can’t shake the feeling it will be truly horrible.”
“I’ve heard just about everything I needed to from this man.” Leopold says. “Bennett fled his doomed siege, and now seeks refuge in the one place in Fodlan he can hide. I’ll see to it that he’s brought to justice for his numerous crimes, but for now, I’m content to let him rot in ignominy. If his followers don’t tear him up themselves once it’s revealed he’s a charlatan, then I’ll relish the opportunity to do it myself.”
>“Where are you going?” You ask Leopold as he turns to leave the dungeon.“This bastard has put me in a rotten mood.” The paladin calls back to you. “Do with him whatever you like. And feel free to do the same for that Dukedom toad as well.”
“You wanna go there, don’t you?” Fritz whispers, grabbing your attention away from Leopold’s back. “Me too. Bring me with you!”
>“Why would I do that?”“Come on, I’m harmless.” He gives you a toothy grin. “You already saw for yourself that I’m no longer a match for you. Besides…” He turns serious. “I want to see it for myself. Just what he’s going to do. I was there for the beginning of his rise, and I want to be there when he falls. Or…when something else happens.”
