Romance of the Low Kingdom is a Passive Quest. It has a cast of non-playable characters that the plot and story is centered on. The players (you), drive the plot and story by pretty much being side characters, and I often weave their interactions into the plot and story, or even use their interactions/suggestions to advance the plot.

All players should use the same name when posting in character.

How to join: Check the previous thread! Anybody could technically drop-in at any moment although I might delay it if it's not a good moment, such as if a certain player duo might be getting engaged.

I will ask Lorinn to bring the body back to the shore so that my hands don't get contaminated, and then I will check to see he can still be revived, and try it anyway just in case.
Unless that is a very shallow stream and a very patient and calm duck, odds are that they are dead.
Whether they are alive or dead, we should bring them to a shrine, a medic outpost or the palace, whichever is the nearest one with a sterile enviroment and medical supplies, to either examine and treat the injuries and ask question if they are alive, or investigate and identify the body if they are dead.

Oh, and before I send Lorinn, I will whisper to him to be careful, the body has a very distinct hat, so there is a small chance that it's just Kyoko trying to pull one of her pranks.

Now let's Sago something to eat, being so starved that he passed out is really bad, and a possible sign of malnutrition, we can ask more about him while he eats.
Just fot to watch put for any other health problem, and to not let him eat too much too fast, to avoid refeeding syndrome.

I will see if he has any skills to learn other than simple manual labor. Sonson was in charge of welfare work righg? She should know how to teach people, or who could, who knows, maybe he could make for a good secretary, nurse or even bodyguard.

While she doesn't want to disrespect her husband-to-be's customs, her father is very traditional - and it's not like Dogan has shied away from challenges previously. Besides, she has no doubt that he'll care for her health and happiness - but passing a test from Lord Fuzuke would no doubt gain him the respect of many others throughout the kingdom.

And it's not like they can't have a celebration in the capital - or the swamp - or both after daddy has had him chop down the tallest tree in the kingdom with a fish, or whatever the challenge he chooses is.

For salty my old man used to kick my ass every day in the name of training and then some more whenever he had the excuse. I was allowed to fight back but it started from the earliest I could remember. That isn't even including his idea of 'training'.

When I just started dating my wife before we got married. I tried to sneak into the redlight district to hang out with friends. Somehow she found out and figured already knew our favorite whorehouses. So thanks to her I got banned from personal services after she proceeded to threaten them all and the ones that refused 'mysteriously' got burned down...I have since found out that she also contacted all the others too apparently and I have been blacklisted from them all. I still do not know what she threatened them with exactly...

Occasionally(see at random) when I was growing up my old man would kidnap and drag me deep into the wilderness before letting me go to make my way back home on my own. While hunted down by his men, himself included, and without any gear. He claimed it was survival training behind enemy lines.

My sisters used to treat me as their dress up doll growing up and would drag me along with their friends for girly stuff after disguising me as a girl. In order to carry all their stuff since sometimes they didn't wanna have a 'guy' present with all their girls. When I thought I was finally free after growing up they would threaten to tell mother and later my girlfriend about the trouble I would get up to. So they could force me to be their shadow guard and luggage carrier. Despite the fact, we had servants and guards at home...

When I enlisted as the eldest son I was forced to helplessly watch my father die before me and get swept away before my very eyes. Forcing me to become the head of household instead I ran away for 2 years in order to train, learn, and travel before returning. Pretty sure my family still hasn't forgiven me since I have been avoiding them for the past couple of years...

No need to bow to me Sago, I'm your boss and doctor, not owner and master, of course you can. Although I would recommend that you don't drink too much since I don't know how well you are recuperating from your drowing and malnutrition, so at most only 2 or 3 rounds at maximum, space them out throuout the night, and drink an equal amount of water.
Actually, the water and pacing advice goes to everyone too, it really helps with hangovers by easing the liver's job.
Anyway, since I'm horrible with handling alcohol, I will be the designated driver. Time to look for a game of darts or see if I can play music.

Tomorrow, Idol-Hime was to officially receive the Son of Heaven, as he earlier granted mercy to Idol-Hime by allowing her to begin girl time sooner.

Hey dudes, QM speaking for real here, I noticed there is perhaps less interest in this quest, and I can only think of so many reasons why. I will still continue as long as there is even one player, but I'd at least like to know from both players and lurkers;

the worldbuilding and character interactions mostly.

I don't mind how slow it is cause art takes time and /qst/ is a slow board. I don't like the lack of agency. The player characters are the side characters while Idol ime is the obvious main character but it doesn't feel that way to me. The players run the cast around the fem MC but what differences does it actually make?

The fem MC actually takes advantage of the cast around her and more side interactions among the side characters accomplishing things. Mainly the first part and not the second.

I feel like the pace isn't a problem given how slow /qst/ is. Rather I feel that idol hime's lack of agency and utilizing side characters(PCs) is messing things up. I would like to see character banter and interactions more encouraged as they also have their own lives. Even if it's not really focused on for obvious reasons as it would be too much work. Having a bone thrown at the PCs would be nice but not required(as their side characters). I like the dynamic that the PCs are not the MCs but rather cast around her. To me, it seems like the issue is mainly with Idol Hime herself who is getting in the way the most. She has helpers and supporters(PCs not included but other NPCs too). She should be using them especially given her future rulership of the kingdom. Like damn, she isn't even being proactive in hunting down a spouse for herself to the point I was considering whether or not Onizuka would give in and give her a piece of his mind about it thanks to him being married considering the relationship oddness and despite not being a trusted childhood friend.

Another thing I would consider is making it more friendly towards lurkers and new players. How exactly I don't really have any good ideas given the danger of character bloat and loss of players turning previous operational characters into NPCs. Maybe create the occasional opportunity or thread specialized towards welcoming new players or creating group[vote) controlled characters. I don't really have any good ideas for this part maybe more sub group interactions or updates without art. Giving idol hime a kick in the ass is much easier to handle.

Ok Sago, there is a limit what I can help you with. If you want me to house you together with feeding you, and to continue treating me like a master, then we are going to have to nake you a formal servant or vassal of my family. And that is something that only my parents can do, so we are going to have to take a trip home, but only after Idol-Hime is done meeting bachelors, since she is my friend and may need support.
You are going to need to convince both of my parents, because although my father Lord Vull is the head of the house and a good judge of character, he listens and trusts my mother, since she is very observant. They may look calculating, but they are actually very understanding, they even allowed me, the family scion, to nearly drop knight training to become an idol, and then to focus on medicine after that.
So when we go to them, tell them your while story, do not lie, even by omission, and I'm sure they will accept. Then we can see if we can train you to an assistant like a secretary, nurse of bodyguard, or keep you as a menial laborer, like a house servant or field hand.
Oh, and be wary of my younger sister, she may try to pull a prank on you. She is really gifted with the shadow blood, and an absolute menace. I pray she never meets Kyoko or Onizuka.
Big post, but I wanted to take the opportunity to try and fluff more of my character's home and family

Well, so far I only noticed Kyoko and Lorinn not responding anymore, and no new lurkers or persons.
Also it seems most players mainly post actions when their characters have to do something, which is fair since it's what a quest is suposed to be, while I autistically make OOC comments on almost every update.
I really like the worldbuilding, specially how you manage to intertwine the ocasion collaborative bits we give. Not a big surprise there, since I've been following your work since the worldbuing threads on /tg/ I still wonder where on the world the empire from the first one, Bu Da, the monastery/order headquarters and the local lord lands from the second are on the world, in comparison to where we are
I also like that we are secondary/supporting characters and not main characters, because it's a breath of fresh air of both normal quests, and your previous threads where we were just a drop in an ocean of soldiers.
What I don't like is that has been a drop on the speed between updates and the inclusion of details of our little actions, but I can understand since art is hard, and mixing them all together, specially ones that are on different places while making it not be a mess is doubly so. Also I have played slower quests, and you haven't ghosted us.
What I would like to see is more lore, since I love it. Also more interaction hooks or chances to flesh out our characters' place in the world. You have done a good job of it so far, so it's basically more of the same.
What I would change? Well, not that much. The bachelor arc has been a bit less interactive since we have been just asking questions, or split around the city doing our own things, but I don't know what to help that wouldn't imterfere on the prenise that we aren't in control of the plot and can only really nudge it around a bit intead of steering it.
Maybe have more direct chances for a froup interaction, or a goal that we can go and solve instead of reacting to? Something secondary, but important, so that we can solve it however we want, and it wouldn't matter that much how, but still feel like there was some impact?
Also maybe more chances for new players to jump in, like in the beggining of the bachelors meeting, or reminders of which characters have stoped interacting, so new players can take it over, or they become supporting npcs, or another player/we collectively decide their actions. Who knows, it may end up summoning the old players back.

Well, so long as your sister doesn't attend that one school for fine young ladies something flowers I can never remember the name of we should be fine. My little sisters also attend there. Hopefully, I don't get called there for another 'incident' they are totally not behind or sneaking out again...being the eldest brother is suffering. At least I never had to worry about them getting beaten up or bullying...just being the one doing the beatings and bullying.

I mean could be worse you could have both older and younger sisters who are a complete pain in your ass.

New blood would be good, but as was said there isn't an easy way to get that. Some updates there isn't much to reply on - either you've already indicated your course on a previous update and the new one hasn't changed things - or there isn't much to reply to.

The rate your posting is fine, but sometimes the in-universe action can happen a bit quicker. I think the battle scene was probably about the right pace.

I doubt they would send her off to a school for proper manners if this isn't just a phase, since they let me do my own thing. She will either become a squire or learn to be an infiltrator, and both of them would probably be within the Fulver so she learn the clan's secrets, and master the shadow blood even more.

Ah, I don't know what you are so worried about then. That sorta stuff is very common for stealthy blooded clans like ours. If anything it's treated as a sort of training and it's strange to see someone who doesn't behave like that. Espionage is a Torlund specialty in terms of bloodlines after all....seriously we have a lot of stealth specialized clans for some reason. Even with my old man being an eccentric outcast and the family's black sheep I still got the typical clan training along with my sisters. Admittedly Kyoko is better with stealth than I am ever since I branched out my skillset and training unlike her who doubled down. Shit even my family shared some techniques with her. Still, I don't see any reason why you should be concerned about her like that unless she starts getting into delinquency or developing stalking habits.
It's actually a very nice school mother sent them there less for manners and more in the hope they would make friends instead of more enemies with mixed results. Poor girls thought it would allow them to escape training at home but alas...they got stuck practicing twice as much. Suckers. I got kicked out of all the schools I was ever sent to boot camps included. I preferred real life experiences and live training exercises. Being on the edge constantly has a way of improving you a lot more than just normal schooling and typical training. There is a reason why I and Kyoko are so fearsome and good at what we do despite our young age. Nothing beats live experience and risks. Just like our doctor friend he never studied medicine before but improved quickly because he threw himself into the deep water to further pressure himself to improve as much and as quickly as possible. Not many of us are willing to take those kinds of risks and endure that kind of pressure. I and Kyoko take it for granted with how we do things but it's not like we are ignorant about the dangers. It just makes it that much more exciting...at least for me anyway. I'm pretty sure Kyoko just enjoys drinking the terror of her victims.

And it makes sense for Torlund to have so many bloodlines specialized in stealth, the mongrel blood allow for a greater diversity, and us being in a strategic position sandwitched between three powers and cobstantly invaded, allows for the ones that can be used in guerrila warfare to thrive.
I'm the doctor, so I guess I can be considered my own friend? I've seen the trope of talking in third person instead of first plenty of times, but third in place of second is new. You should try becoming an author Onizuka, you got some fresh ideas, and probably saw plenty of things during your time as a missionary.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I think I will take a week break to figure out a way to approach this. I also think it would be better to update slower, but with update having much more content in both story progression and drawing. I think I might have been overdoing it with the art, as in I've been trying to capture a lot more scenes.

I wasn't trying to keep secrets, but that Army thread's Empire is something of a successor to Loris. Also, I update/change lore between threads and just hope nobody notices, but I try to never do it within the same storyline.

Also here's some doodle I made that's a bit of a draft for the founding of Torlund.

Eh I have actually written a book and some treatises...never would have imagined myself as an author but when you do enough research and want to pass down a properly recorded heritage it ends up working out that way. Going through my old man's idea of martial manuals was hell...I had to rewrite the entire thing for the sake of my younger siblings so it's actually understandable. There are also issues with the noble clans disorganized espionage and intelligentsia services. This is peculiar indeed when you consider the loyalty to the royals and them remaining surprisingly unified. Ultimately though the reason is very simple.

A strong Torlund is a dangerous Torlund and nobody wants Torlund to be strong and dangerous. Hence forcing Torlund to fight in ways that they are most ill suited for that just happens to be the strengths of the enemy. While despite Torlund having a massive reserve of bloodlines and especially the dangerous stealth bloodlines that go largely underutilized. If Torlund was actually allowed to fight to its strengths instead of weaknesses...things would be very different indeed. That cannot be allowed by the Imperials and enemies though. If Torlund was actually allowed to capitalize on its strengths and instead of being forced to utilize its greatest weaknesses how could Torlund possibly remain occupied and weak? Do you have any idea how hellish it would be trying to hold territory when everyone fights dirty, uses stealth, never a straightforward fight, and can easily vanish into the swamps or dense cities? It doesn't matter if you win every battle if you lose the war. Torlund happens to be uniquely capable of making victories and defeats extremely painful to the enemy while minimizing their own losses either way.

I have some ideas for that it will probably get my character killed though. At least in terms of military and espionage, Torlund will no longer suck(as much) but at least Onizuka will go down like a badass.

I guess I got to worried about giving you guys something you could do, but maybe instead it would be better to not force it. Please be patient with the coming updates, and I will also probably be posting once a week, hopefully covering much more time in-game between posts.

It's ok chief, having the story move along is the best bet.
No need to force interaction, just reward the ones that already happens. Sometimes we say or do something and it's not awknowledged or touched upon. It might discourage people from doing things.
Or not and keep the updates a reasonable size, whatevers works best for you.

Not to mention there is a lot to work on in Torlund...at least I'm busy here. Like really fucking busy I sorta used up all my vacation time for the past two years. Is it about the lack of suitable suitor options? Just pull a Kyoko and hunt someone down that interests you. No need to play fair when your the last royal and all is fair in love and war as they say.

Although their intelligence services shouldn't be as embarrassing right? How would I use them? oh nevermind I know. What to offer in trade though...

Would there be enough time for me to visit my home and convince mom and dad to make Sago an official servant of the family? It's important for my choice.
I'm torn, on one hand really want to visit the capital and one of the reasons I took up medicine was to cover for Milly's power, other than the feeling of helplessness, but on the other hand things might get hectic with her gone.
I think I will wait for the others ro organize themselves before choosing.
