A small music chime plays after-ward. You sat there on the metallic chair, provided by the trusty station provisioner. The people and xenoids around you, whispering in various tones and dialects - the room is quickly filled with noises. You look at the LED clock on the wall; 0900, it says. Your stomach ties in knots. The airlock of the room opens, directing all attention towards it - from the laid-backs to the worried. A small, cubic shaped, green droid, lazily floats into the room.

"Greetings!" It chimes in a high-pitch digitalized voice. "I believe many of you are wondering where's the supposed instructor is, and as I - The Generic All Purpose Unit, also known as G.A.P.U, shall tell you about his whereabouts -- He is now a corpse! Lying at the depth of -30000 virsta on this here planet. A moment of consolidation, if you please." The robot starts to play a piece of emotional violin music, as the people around it scratches their heads in confusion - although some had caught what it's said, their faces an arrangement of different emotions. "And with that out of the way, I am here to give instructions as a substitution - Order of the Digger's Conglomerate. Now listen carefully, those who are attending in the Gathering Room number four." "Those who are registered with the economy course will leave this room and proceed to the Gathering Room number six. Ecologics to room number three. Biologics to room number two. R&D to the second floor, the elevator is at the end of hallway on your way out, just follow the sign. Security to room number one." As the people left the room, all the noisiness starts to die down, and the room was left with a few kettes of people still seated. "As for those who weren't called, I trust that you know what you signed up for, yes?" None of us answered. "Welcome to the Miner course, ladies and gentlemen, humans and non-humans; From here on out, I trust you to keep your head above the muddy cloud called ignorance, because no one other than your well-prepared self can save you from the dangers of spelunking deep into Ortopie-IV. Even your instructor had perished in the line of duty, so I hope you won't fall into the same fate as him."

>>5133373 As the robot calls out the names and titles of the people in Gathering Room 4. You look between the people of various races. It seems that you're the only person that can be remotely called 'human' in this quarter.
Your thought were disrupted by a green mass, floating in-front of you.
"Ah-- and you are........ Hm...." The Generic All Purpose Unit - GAPU, starts looking through what looks like a yellow light projection field coming from the glowing bitbob on its side.
".... I don't see your name on the digital list." The robot eyes you suspiciously, glancing constantly between you and this 'list'.
"I registered via paper form." You reassure the robot.
"Paper form you say?"
"That's what the instructor handed me, yes - The registration form."
"......."
You look at the droid in silence, it at you without a uttering a sound. From what you've said to it, the instructor gave you a form that you filled your personal information in. The last time you saw him, he was pocketing it and told you to come to Gathering Room 4....
"Oh." You realised something very crucial - How far down is -30000 virsta anyway?
"Mmhm, well - I do have a digital registration form saved in my drive - that saves us the hassle and cost of picking up his body from Hell's bottom just for your registration form." The robot says - somehow, you feel like it's very insulting.
"Right, if you can give me your name, sex, and a few other things - we can get the show on the road, yes? Just tap on the screen there and we'll be A-OK."

Behind you, a small, blue-skinned xenoid carrying a satchel, standing around nervously.

"...You know, that would've killed me for sure if it wasn't for my rock skin." Marox shoots Zhox a look, which made him retreat further behind the shadow of his back. Combat seems like something his species would have an affinity for, given their robustness and durability, and there's a plausible pipeline from being military to taking up a job like this. Perhaps Marox was employed there with Zhox back when he was a Septoguard, or they bonded over a shared background of being ex-soldiers.

Saying this, he just made you more curious about how he became a practitioner of medicine. "I'm all ears." "All right..." Marox took a deep breath. "It was a long time ago, I believe when my planet was still full of greenery, that was when I was born." "Is this your life story?" You asked, the stonebeast quickly nodded. "You see, I wasn't born with this form." "From what the Professor said to me a few decades back, I was a bundle of nerves born from a type of floral on my homeplanet." "You were what?" "... I was a brain in a jar." Marox said matter-of-factly. "It was the Professor who discovered me, and I was encased that day. Marox paused for a moment, seemingly to pick his words to not shoot down your hopes. "...Maybe later, our mission isn't exactly the type to leisure around." "Come on... maybe you can teach me a thing or two." Marox shook his head. "Sorry but I'm not that much of a teacher to really inform you of the basics, I suggest you talk to the droid outside." Had it not for your grinded patience as an ex-banker and top-notch professionalism, you would have grab the nearest thing and smash this thing to bits. You blocked the light with your arm, looking ahead - you noticed a touchscreen, blinking with a nice, steady pattern. ".....Do you want me buy something?" ".........." "If I buy something, would you stop shining this flashlight in-front of my face?" The machine did not respond, instead - the touchscreen stopped blinking and an interface showed up, as if inviting you. "I hope your wares are worth my time...." The value has to exceed the merchant's threshold in order to succeed. Right now it's just 15% off total price, I might change it in the future, depend on the feedbacks. Use exclusively by the miners of the Digger's Conglomerate. The casings were made from the chitin of a species of bug that lives deep underground. Purchase complete! YOU NOW HAVE:>x1 Med-kit >59 Lr - - - You deposited the Loric into the machine by entering your safety code, after a while, a notification popped up - showing that the transaction was finalized and successful. A grinding sound started to come out from the dispencer, its body shaking intensely. The conveyer belt that was installed inside it starts to turn, and soon enough - a pristine medkit popped out and slid down the belt. You picked up the medkit with your hand and started sizing it up - while it does claim that it's lightweight, you can feel the hefty case weighed down on your arm. The dispencer started to shine his flash-light on your face again, now that you aren't buying anything. Annoyed, you quickly rushed to the counter, where the two droids are. Upon noticing your approach, the general unit chimed: "Ah! There she is. I believe you two haven't been properly introduced to each other yet -- Penelope, this is EMMU - Equipments & Materiel Management Unit. She's the one who's in charge of your equipment and its maintenance." "A pleasure." A soothing feminine, but still digital voice greeted you, different from the one that you had eavesdropped before. "....Yeah, the pleasure's all mine." You gave a curt reply. "Now, to business; EMMU here has prepared your gears for your first assignment, which I will tell you soon. Right now, I will inform you on what you will receive." "Sounds good." "These are all miner equipments and are lended to you - so please keep its conditions top-notched." the generic unit said. "You will receive a set of [standard miner uniform], a [pneumatic trench tool] and a [healing spray]. You may enter the entrance to your left to get your equipment, they will have your name tag attached to it." "Oh, and don't worry about your clothing, we'll put it in your stash - safe and sound." Looking to your left, you saw an entry-way back to behind the counter, seeing that they aren't stopping you, you proceeded to the rack that was behind the equipment unit. A large duffle bag, labelled "Penelope Griffin" - lays neatly on the rack. You opened the bag and looked at the contents. - - - YOU'VE OBTAINED:>x1 [Standard digger uniform] >x1 [Pneumatic trench tool] >x1 [Healing spray]

It took you a while to finish putting on your work uniform, along with the mask that they gave you - 'for protective reasons' the generic unit said. While the uniform comes with a lot of unnecessary accessories, you can't deny that it's very easy to move inside it. The cape - 'to protect you from any kinds of debris' - does flow quite nicely of your back, it made you feel a bit elevated. You exited to the front of the counter through the doorway, GAPU floated to you and took a moment to admire your in-uniform look. "..... Fits quite nicely, isn't it?" "... Can't say that it's uncomfortable, your department must have made these quite considerably." You gave a cold compliment. "All thanks to EMMU, of course!" GAPU cheerfully gave credits to the chair looking droid. "Anyway, I believe it's time for your first mission, your restriction to the Hub has been lifted, so let us leave at once!" GAPU flew quickly to the exit and disappeared to the hallway outside. Not wanting to be left behind, you quickly took off as well.

The way to the Hub Room was uneventful - it was right across the Equipments room, just a hallway away. During the walk, GAPU informed you of a few things. 'One of the reasons why the mines in Ortopie-IV are so dangerous is because its entrances are constantly changing due to an anomaly presented on the planet. Although it is quite hard to precisely pinpoint where the entrance is, but we figured out a solution; and that is by using teleportation.' 'You see, by sending a steady, consistant waves of ultra-sonar underground, we've discovered small 'pockets' that branches out and connect themselves to the dominant caves. From there, we roughly estimated the distance, sent the cordinance to an AI to make sure that it eliminates all abnormalities. And with that - we've made a high-way to the Ortopie underground.' 'The cave that you're about to enter is in a controlled environment, so don't worry about being lost - you'll see the signs when you know it. As for your means of digging, we've provided you with a [Pneumatic Trench Tool] - A combination between a pickaxe and a shovel, that can also be served as a weapon! How nice is that!' 'Although you'd still be careful while being in the mines, there are wildlifes that we cannot regulate, and had multiplied exponentally right under our nose. Some even got into the controlled zones and are threatening the lives of our miners. So if you can - I'd like you to [Defeat a Populis Zemnis], you won't miss its distinct calling and features. If you do, I'll personally pay you out of my own droid pockets. Of course, this is optional - your main mission is to [Get out of the mine] safely, this is just a training mission for you anyway.'

Upon entering the Hub, you immediately noticed the giant black mass - held in the air by two massive iron obelisks, pulsating and wavering - like a hypnotization. "Oh, don't worry - that's our artifical entrance to the mine." GAPU explained. "Just let me enter the cordinate to a known mine of ours and we'll get your training right under way." The droid proceeded to the terminal nearby and shone its light to the screen. Looking at the massive gate, you can't help but feeling a sense of dread. "Oh-- I definitely forgot this, here - your [SatCom]." GAPU flew over to you and a small compartment opened up under him, showing a small hooked ear-piece. You took the ear-piece, examined it before putting it on your ear. "Right, so the [SatCom] is your tool for communation between members of the Digger's Conglomerate, whether underground or above. You just need to ask for their SC number - it will automatically establish a connection between you and that person, and their information will be added to your registry." "Now, don't let me hold you back. The gate is opened, and they won't be opened for long - You better start going, miner. Good luck!" Those were the final regards from the droid as you took your first steps into the black portal.
