On the White Plains Of Orin, the golden age of the Northpeek Dwarves came to a crashing halt. At the high of his pride, The Emerald King, along with his five most trusted thanes, met the barbarian hordes of men in open battle. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to the king, secret tunnels were dug by traitor dwarven thanes, who's gold lust had overrun their reason. These tunnels were used by the humans to encircle the less manoeuvrable grand dwarven army, and to destroy the legendary dwarven war machines before the battle even began. Without escape, and without support, the dwarves fought to the last. The heroic last stand of the grand army left their enemies with a pyrrhic victory. Unable to continue their campaign, the human armies scattered back to their hovels. Many hoped that this would be the end of it, but it was not to be..
The succession disputes and accusations of kin betrayal that followed soured the relations of the remaining thanes. Eventually, each thane would proclaimed himself the rightful Emerald King and grew deeply distrustful of his neighbours. The strong coalition of dwarves became weak, and many ancient enemies such as the trolls, goblins, and dragons have once again become emboldened...
The dwarves that remain live in a time that would be known as the "Karvor-Jnred"; the time of troubles. Yet, like a faint candle in the wind, a fleeting hope remains. What was lost, can be rebuilt again, and as every dwarf knows: " to move a mountain, first you must start by carrying away the small stones"
