"They're not shooting at us," she says, pointing her gun up and away. "They're shooting at the people behind us."
"Pull over Porfirio, I think I know what to do!"
You stop the car, almost too tired from all of this madness to continue. Your car is covered in debris, grass, dirt, and bullet holes as it leaks multiple fluids. That it has survived this long is probably enough to get the Church to count this as an official miracle. You're feeling just as beat up yourself. You'll let this guy handle it.
"Who the fuck ar-" one of the armed men shouts as John Doe gets out of the car. He stops before slinging the gun over his shoulder and running towards John while the rest of them lay down suppressive fire. "Holy shit, you're alive!"
"It's a long story, I'll tell you all about it."
"God damn, you look like shit!" the stranger says as he hugs his friend. "And this car looks worse. The hell is going on?"
"Again, long story. Look, is the path back to the church safe?"
"For John Doe? Of course it is! And who are the plus two, here?"
"They're the two I owe my life to. Look, we don't have time to mess around, we need to get back." The stranger nods. "And one more thing. While I prepare them the -you know- think you can get some guys, real mechanics, to duct tape the thing together or whatever it is they do?"
"Say no more. Get back in, we'll escort you."
With that, the stranger runs back to his guys as John Doe makes his way back to the backseat.
"John, who the- I mean, what on- you know what? I'm not even going to ask. Let's just get out of here."
With that, you move forward off of the path and onto an actual street. Behind you, a few of the armed men stay behind to keep your exit safe. You see Valentine looking exhausted wiping sweat from her forehead as John Doe crosses himself. You don't think he's a very good Christian since he gets the motion wrong, but after the miracle that is your survival thus far, you could see the most hardline atheist considering faith.
"Jesus tapdancing Christ, I owe you two big-time. Porfirio, I doubted you for a second, but after that pro racer driving, never again. And Valentine, you're a one-woman army! Seriously, you were cutting down people like it was a damned action movie or video game!"
"Call me Jill. That goes for you too, Ramirez."
"I know you guys are in a hurry, but just believe me that I'll be able to make your way out of this place a lot easier and faster. I just need a little time to prepare something. I'll twist some arms and get them to fix this, with all due respect, junker of a car up as much as they can in the short time. You two can have a break once we're at base."
"Base? I thought this was a church?"
"Did I slip up there? Well, neither one is wrong..."
