Your father is Hokkyokusei Seinaru, a seated Shinigami officer of some repute, enough to own his own small property within the Seireitei, and known for being one of the few in the Kido Corps to have real skill in the Zankensoki outside of the art his Division specialised in. Though he was considered to be a good and dutiful man who upheld the laws of the Seireitei in the wider community, what you saw of him was markedly different. His wife, your mother, someone you had heard in the past was a powerful, independent noble of the minor Yen clan with spiritual potential of her own but had never attended the Shin'ō Academy to become a Shinigami herself, never seemed to do anything, or even be capable of doing anything or making decisions without your father’s input, and to you, the man had been putting you through what some would consider harsh training long before it was time for you to attend the Academy either, simply stating that he would not allow his greatest creation to go to waste whenever you asked him why he was doing it.
You didn’t care for it, and so chose to slack off and play around, rather than take it seriously. Your father seemed immensely disappointed in your lack of ability, nor did he ever seem to realise that you were actually putting some effort in whenever he wasn’t looking.
How boring.
The fool of a man had apparently never heard of the saying “It takes great talent and skill to hide one’s talent and skill” apparently, or perhaps, even more foolishly, believed himself such a good judge of strength that he couldn’t even comprehend the possibility that you were hiding your own from him. Although, you reasoned, it wasn’t as if he knew you had been hiding the full extent of your reiryoku from him and everyone else as soon as you became aware of it, but still. Surely he could tell your aptitude for Zanjutsu and especially Hohō were greater than his own, right? …Well, if he hadn’t, he had only himself to blame, you thought as you smiled to yourself. As for why you were hiding your ability in the first place? Well, it’s because you…
PICK ONE AND ONLY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING
>Believe that if your capabilities are well-known it’s only a matter of time until someone works around them and kills you
>Have an ambition, and so you want to fly under the radar for now
>No reason. You just think that people’s reactions to your real power after hiding it will be funny, and fun is all that motivates you
