Prior to discovering inter-realm travel, the Empire had conquered, subjugated or subsumed the other nations in its world. The Empress became the first person from her realm to step into another realm, and became immortal as a side effect. Soon after, the Eternal Empire launched subjugation attempts at nearby realms, and prospered from their conquests - at least for some time.
Domestic problems arose due to the overly authoritarian government and constant wars bringing an influx of dispossesed veterans, signaling the beginning of the downfall - but it was the arrival and intersection with the Singularity that broke it. Billions of refugees flood the neighboring realms as the Heartlands became unstable and flux-ridden.
>HinomaruOne of the few realms that willingly joined with the Eternal Empire, they were but a technologically inferior realm before the integration. But, they progressed in leaps and bounds afterwards, becoming the technological center of the Empire. They have also managed to promote their culture across to the other realms of the Eternal Empire since, in the form of Anime.
After the Singularity hit the Heartlands, Hinomaru took in the most refugees, and became the seat of the Empire-in-Exile - that is, until the Eternal Empress abdicated the throne and went to Gongalla.
>LibertadWhen the Eternal Empire invaded, Libertad was only slightly technologically behind, and fought tooth and nail - although in the end the Empire was victorious. Libertad was modernized and became a source of workers for the Empire, although the animosity from the natives still remain.
After the Singularity hit the Heartlands and the refugees started coming, Libertad wised up to the situation and a great revolution occurred. A short guerilla war ensued, ending with the liberation of Libertad.
>Anima MundiA realm not yet subjugated by the Empire, it possessed similar levels of technology to the Empire - but alas, it was hit by the Singularity before the Heartland did. Some refugees from this realm managed to gain access to inter-realm teleportation technology to survive, and now they're spread out in a diaspora.
