A bit ago, a guy called Sweets-Loving QM ran a Fate quest by this name, but he disappeared some way into the sequel. It's been a long time since he showed up on the board so I feel like it's about time that somebody else took a crack at it. I'm a fan of Fate and I like writing so I figured why not? I've had enough of waiting for Sweets-Loving QM to return, and I want this story idea to reach a satisfying end. Of course I'll be changing plenty of details as well so that readers of the previous quest aren't too complacent. As for the quest itself, it's a new Holy Grail War, with new Masters and Servants. Servant rules as well as magecraft rules are from Nasuverse canon, but I'll endeavor to explain everything so that people who aren't familiar with Fate aren't left in the dark as the player character won't be a trained magus. Certain choices in the quest will require a roll of 1d100 in order to determine success or failure with critical failures and critical successes on rolls of 1 and 100 respectively. Now with all that out of the way, onto the quest! You find yourself suspended in a void of color, the world around you is shifting and changing, wisps of colored energy swirl around you as you are suspended in the void. You can't feel your body, and somehow, the only sense you have access to is your sight. You wondered just what was happening to you, this must've been some bizarre dream, but even knowing that you didn't wake up. You were helplessly forced to sit and watch the light show taking place before you as the the wisps of energy coalesced into a single ball in front of you, colors whipping past you at tremendous speed as they formed an iridescent sphere, though you couldn't feel a thing as the wisps passed through where your body should be. Looking down, you quickly saw that you had no body at all! The sphere continued to grow in size as the wisps of color continued to flow towards it, until you were left floating in a black void and staring at the sphere, the only object left that had any sort of color to it. A horizontal crack suddenly opened up in the massive sphere in front of you, and you were left figuratively holding your breath as you waited to see what would come of it, bright white light peered out of the linear opening as it slowly begun to widen. The widening of the crack soon allowed you to see the interior of the sphere... pure white with the exception of a large red dot. No, wait, it wasn't a dot... it was an iris! The sphere had opened up to reveal a colossal eye! You felt an odd sensation that tore at your very foundations as the eye glared at you, and for what felt like the first time in your entire life, you knew what true pain felt like. Even though you didn't have any sort of body, you felt like you were on fire, and you wanted to scream. Finally, the eye let out a pulse of blinding light that robbed you even of your only sense, and as you started to wake up wondering about the dream, you recalled who you were...

High Speed Divine QM !!8eTfqIeTsXo ID:ALoa2Z+m Thu 07 Jul 2022 22:21:29 No. 5331762 Report You... didn't know who you were. As you opened your eyes, you found yourself staring at a ceiling with absolutely no memory of who you were, unfamiliar with even what your name was. You got up quickly to try to figure out just where you were, and you found that you had what seemed like very basic bits and pieces of knowledge about the world around you. This looked like... some sort of shop. Outside the window you could see that there were dozens of burning cars and fires scattered around everywhere. "That's... not normal." You were calm as you assessed the situation, you knew that you had found yourself in an odd situation but you felt no danger from it. The shop you were in seemed to be relatively well-stocked despite the condition of the world outside and the fact that one of the windows had been shattered. Whoever was in this place before you obviously left in some hurry, judging from the magazine rack that had clearly been thrown through the shattered window. You grabbed an item from one of the shelves and read the packaging, potato chips, and the language was... Japanese? Wait, of course it was Japanese, that was the language that you just spoke, wasn't it? Somehow through some sort of survival instinct, you felt like it would be important to stock up on some food for later. With that in mind you grabbed a backpack that was conveniently on offer and started to fill it with anything that you thought might be useful. This situation didn't feel like a danger to you right now, but you knew that food was important and without any means to earn the money to get it legitimately, it would be wasteful not to stock up now. You were slightly surprised at how light the bag felt even after you had filled it with cans and other dense items, but you didn't think much more than that, you didn't exactly know anything specific to compare your strength to. Before leaving the building, you stopped in front of a window that hadn't been shattered in order to look at yourself, and you obviously didn't recognize the man staring back at you. You were... about six foot tall, with bone white hair and crimson eyes... you knew that there was something wrong with how you looked. Wasn't this... albinism? Your limited knowledge of the world around you left you with more questions than answers. You'd have to try to find somebody else, maybe they'd know what was going on? Fortunately your clothing was normal enough, a black set of pants along with a white dress shirt, so if you did end up encountering somebody else it shouldn't be that difficult to communicate with them. Taking your newly acquired supplies, you left the building through the same shattered window that had clearly been used by somebody else to exit, you didn't know why they didn't just use the door, but it was likely that the door had been locked or was otherwise booby-trapped if such means had been taken by the previous occupant in order to exit.

You were curious about the sound of the explosion, but something within you stirred at hearing the cry for help, something that you couldn't ignore. You didn't know who you were, or why you were even here, but you felt like helping other people might be the right thing for you to do. It was just a hunch right now, but all you had to go off right now were hunches. You raced towards the source of the screaming, leaping atop cars and jumping over debris in the road that was in your way as you hurried towards the noise, you were fast, but you didn't know if you would be fast enough in order to save the person yelling before they succumbed to whatever danger that they were in. At one point you were forced to make your way through part of a building that had collapsed onto the road, and you once again wondered just how the city had fallen to such a state, you didn't exactly know what city you were in, but it looked like an absolute war zone! Finally, you could hear that you were getting close, and you tried to listen closely to figure out just what was being said. "A-ah! Stay away! Stay away!" Upon getting closer, you could hear that the scream you had heard, while feminine sounding at first, seemed to in fact belong to a very cowardly boy who was clearly being attacked by someone, or something. "Shut up idiot, can't you tell that they aren't fuckin' listening to ya'? Fuck, you're just getting more of them to come closer!" A far gruffer and angrier voice scolded the first, and you finally turned the corner to see three boys standing on top of a car that was being swarmed by what appeared to be people, each armed with an improvised weapon. The one you assumed to be the leader of the group and the roughest looking member of the group was wielding a dented metal bat, the one he was scolding was a smaller boy limply holding a knife in his hand. The final member of the group was a boy who was in between the two in terms of bulk while also being awfully quiet about the situation. He was using a large stick in order to push the group of about 5 people who were trying to scale the vehicle away. On closer inspection, the people trying to climb up to them... looked like they should very much be dead. Between their ripped clothing, the chunks of flesh missing from their bodies and the fact that one of them was seemingly an animated skeleton. These were... the living dead? You had knowledge on these creatures, a basic form of necromancy, corpses that were forced to move again by using magecraft. You weren't sure how you knew that when you didn't even know your own name, but it probably wasn't worth dwelling on.

Looking at the three struggling boys, you come to the conclusion that you should help them, you felt like you were strong enough to help them, and you quickly started to look around the street for a weapon until your eyes settled upon a red stop sign attached to a solid looking metal pole. You ignored the boys arguing with each other as they struggled against the undead as you grabbed onto the metal roadsign and twisted it loose of the floor with relative ease, bringing up a chunk of concrete along with the sign upon doing so. "Huh." You realized that what you just did was not something that a normal person should've been able to do, and you didn't even need to exert all of your strength to do it. You didn't know what this meant for you, but you knew that it meant you were doing the right thing. You had the strength to help these three, so why shouldn't you? Not only was there no real threat to you considering the undead were struggling to even reach the three boys, but something inside of you seemed to enjoy helping other people. "H-hey! Stay back! These things are dangerous!" The smallest boy was the first to notice your arrival as you walked towards the three of them and he tried to warn you off from approaching, it took him only a few seconds after that to see how casually you were walking towards them despite carrying the heavy lump of concrete on the end of the pole. The monsters seemed to notice your approach, one of them turned to face you and started to stumble in your direction, you responded to the approach of the monster by one-handing the signpost and slashing horizontally with it, taking the head of the corpse off with a single strike with the mostly blunt edge of the signpost through physical trauma alone. You really were much stronger than normal people were! Well, as long as these three boys were a good base to go off, and a law of averages suggested that the three of them seemingly being far weaker than you meant that you had more physical power than a normal person. You twirled the signpost in your hands, turning it so that the block of concrete faced the undead before smashing down on the head of another corpse, immediately splattering it's head and causing the body to collapse. Unfortunately, the lump of rock was quite flimsy, and it shattered from the impact against the skull of the rotting corpse.

High Speed Divine QM !!8eTfqIeTsXo ID:ALoa2Z+m Fri 08 Jul 2022 23:26:05 No. 5332708 Report There was no real skill to your attacking, but your superior physical strength appeared to be more than enough to allow you to shred through the monsters, and even with your weapon made less effective through the shattering of the rock base, it was still more than enough to smash up the remaining 3 undead. They appeared to have completely switched their attention away from the boys now, choosing instead to focus on you as the greater threat, but it was far too late for that, and you cleaved two of them in half with a massive swing of the pole. The metal tore through the flesh and bone of the zombies, cutting them entirely in half but also leaving your stop sign bent out of shape and mostly useless. All that remained now was the skeletal corpse, but before you could turn to deal with it, the boy with the baseball bat leapt off of the car and knocked its head off with his baseball bat before looking at you. "Oi, thanks for the help. Don't suppose you know anything about what's goin' on here, do ya?" "I'm afraid not. In fact, I don't even recall who I am." Despite having some fragmented memories that you could occasionally rely upon to inform you of basic things, you still knew absolutely nothing about just who or what you were. "Well, whoever ya are you're fuckin' strong." That was something you had already figured out, but it was nice that it was being confirmed for you by a secondary party. "Matsuda-kun. Let's give the man some space, shall we?" The boy who had remained silent until now finally spoke up. "Thank you for your assistance in dealing with those... monsters. We all found ourselves trapped here after waking up. I'm Yumigawa Rushorou, this is Matsuda Ryuuta, and this is Ogawara Yatsuhide." The boy was wearing a school blazer and had clearly taken it upon himself to act as the leader of the three, though he did seem to be the most intelligent of the three... and wasn't cowardly like the smaller boy. "I have a hunch that it's got something to do with that pillar of light." You pointed at the distant beam of light that was shining towards the sky, it was pretty obvious that something important was happening over there. "Ah, yes. I was thinking something similar, I was wondering if this might be some sort of mass hallucination, originally I thought it was just a strange dream, but then I met these two, and I started to believe that I wasn't dreaming at all," Yumigawa looked up at the pillar of light. "Do you think that if we reach the pillar of light, we'll go back to our normal lives in Japan?" "I don't know. But whatever is going on, it's obvious we're supposed to be heading towards it." You gave the boy your honest answer, hopefully the light would provide the answers you were seeking, because it was painfully clear that this boy and his friends held no information that would be relevant for you. "I suppose you can follow me." There was no reason to shoo the three of them away, and while they might've not been of much use, they were the only three people that you had ever met. "Sounds reasonable. Matsuda-kun, Ogawara-kun, we're heading off." The boy called back to the two other boys, oddly enough they were all wearing what appeared to be some sort of uniform, but none of them seemed to be wearing the same outfit, and the smallest of the three, Ogawara, was clearly wearing the highest quality outfit, while the tallest, Matsuda, wore an outfit that had not only clearly seen better days but looked pretty cheap from the start. Yumigawa however was wearing a very plain outfit that neither looked cheap or expensive, though you could tell that he took care of it judging from how pristine it looked. What a strange bunch of characters you had stumbled into. "Sure, I was gettin' bored of killin' zombies anyway." Matsuda was more than happy to follow you, clearly he wasn't at all intimidated or even really all that cautious about the situation he had found himself in. You were unsure if it was due to courage or bravery, the undead were no real threat to you as you had just uncovered, but it was quite obvious that against normal people like these three then even a single slip would've meant death. "I-it's definitely safer than j-just waiting to die." Ogawara added as he too started to follow after the others, the boy was clearly a coward, but his cowardice may well have been the proper response to a situation like this. He was obviously physically the least fit and weakest of the group he had found himself in, so such a reaction to things was probably the wisest thing that he could do. It was actually thanks to his screaming for help that you ended up finding the three of them, ironically.

"Right, then let's go." You took a look at the road sign you had used to brutalize the undead earlier, but it was far too damaged to have any remaining use now. You didn't need a weapon anyway, you were clearly more than strong enough to deal with any undead that might cross your path, even with just your fists alone. You were slowed down a little as you were forced to match the speed of the boys, but it was probably better to tread carefully anyway, just because you were able to defeat that small group of walking corpses earlier didn't mean you could defeat an unlimited amount of them, and there was no telling what other threats may have been present in the city, either. Of course, you did come across a few more groups of the undead, but you chose to navigate around them rather than fight more of them, there was nothing to be gained from killing them, and you obviously had nothing to gain from staying within a burning city. Your best chances would be in escaping the city and hoping that the area outside of it was in a better condition, but of course, without any real way to figure out just where the outside of the city was and not wanting to climb one of the unstable collapsing buildings, you had no choice but to go towards the beacon. The group didn't seem to have that much difficulty in following you, though Ogawara complained a bit, and Matsuda spent most of the journey in a state between smoking an entire pack of cigarettes and telling the smaller boy to shut up. Yumigawa meanwhile followed you silently, you didn't really know if you liked how he seemed to be almost as confident and non-threatened about things as you were, you had the strength to back up feeling a lack of danger, while he certainly didn't. After what felt like an hour or two of trudging through the city and occasionally trying to clamber over roadblocks and other obstacles, you were finally nearing the source of the beacon, and you were surprised at just what form it took. "A... church?" The building itself was a pristine looking church building, though in scale it felt more like a cathedral. There even seemed to be an invisible barrier separating it from the rest of the city. "Well, I certainly wasn't expecting today to be the day I found religion." Yumigawa joked, but nobody laughed, and he was clearly a little bit put out by nobody laughing at his joke. Clearly he wasn't very experienced with being humorous. "Aw jeez, I can't believe I gotta go into one a' these things again. Damn bastard priests always think they're better than ya'." Matsuda let his thoughts on the building be known as well.

It didn't however seem like anybody was about to reject the idea of heading inside the building though, considering that it was a choice between safety and potentially being made uncomfortable or staying in the burning city, what you were going to do was obvious, and you all continued on inside the building. Eventually you came to the front of the building, to a massive set of carved wooden doors featuring all sorts of religious iconography that you pushed open with little difficulty, and the doors opened to reveal a typical looking interior. Pews were placed in a row following a path that continued for a while until it split off to lead to two sets of stairs that flanked an altar. The boys traveling with you were apparently impressed by the extravagence on display inside the building but you were more focused on the altar, or rather the cup of silver that was positioned on top of it. The cup seemed to be calling to you, as if trying to lure you towards it, and you obliged. Soon standing directly in front of the empty vessel, you peered inside it to see four shining silver coins. For some reason, you couldn't resist the sight of the coins and you reached inside the cup, grabbing hold of a single coin before your mind was flooded with information... and a choice. A choice of Servants, Heroic Spirits summoned from beyond the veil to serve a Master in the Holy Grail War.>Saber, the Heroic Spirit of the Sword. >Archer, the Heroic Spirit of the Bow. >Lancer, the Heroic Spirit of the Lance. >Rider, the Heroic Spirit of the Mount. >Assassin, the Heroic Spirit of Assassination. >Caster, the Heroic Spirit of Spells and Sorcery. >Berserker, the Heroic Spirit of Berserk Rage.

You were trying to pick one of the seven Classes that had appeared within your mind which were now represented by 7 shining golden cards, and you reached out for a card that seemed to signify Lancer, but the card faded from your grasp and broke into shards. Afterwards you tried to grab Caster, but that too shattered into pieces the moment it was touched. Then Saber, Assassin and Archer were vanquished by your touch. Out of desperation you tried to grab Rider, but it turned to ash in your hands, you were left with only a single choice... Berserker. You had wanted to avoid going for something that sounded so dangerous, but it appeared as if you would have no choice. You reached out to grab the final remaining card, but it shattered into pieces just as it was touched, as all the other cards had done so. You were left alone within your own mind with nothing but shattered fragments of golden cards to differentiate themselves from the dark void. You had been given a choice of seven Servants only for each of them to be snatched away from you, and you began to feel resentment. Loathing at having been toyed with by this strange system, somebody was obviously trying to mess with you, to offer you something before denying it immediately. But you weren't just going to accept that. This was your mind, and if each of the possible Servants had been stolen from you, you were going to change that. You held out your hand and focused on it, on focusing on creating a Servant card of your own. The fragments of the other cards that had fallen around you started to vibrate as you focused, before they started to rise. The rising fragments of all seven of the cards slowly gathered above your palm... fusing with each other to form only a single black card. The card was unlike any of the seven that it had been formed from, instead of some sort of heroic figure like the majority of the other cards represented, this card featured a ragged looking person with long hair, bound in chains, the very opposite of a hero. The card seemed to exude hatred as you held it in your hands, your moment of resentment at being tricked had given way to the card to come into existence. Suddenly the black card started to exude black smoke that engulfed you within it, robbing you of your vision and taking away each and every one of your senses as it did, and you felt yourself start falling, flailing around in the darkness as you attempted to find solid ground once more.

Groaning in pain as you ached from the impact, you tried to rise to your feet, only to notice that you weren't alone, a girl in an extravagant white dress that flowed to the ground stood in front of you, looking down at your prone form. She had long pink hair and hateful eyes that shone with an iridescent light, though the most stunning feature of the girl were the two wings on her back, wings of black feathers that seemed to be stained red with blood.
"I suppose that you're my Master then, are you?" She knelt down before you, looking deep into your eyes as she did so. "Get up then. I won't stand for <span class="mu-i">my</span> Master being some sort of bug crawling on the ground." You hesitated for a moment, and that moment seemed to be enough to aggravate the girl immensely, and she narrowed her eyes as she glared at you. "What are you waiting for you imbecile?! I told you to get up!"
Not wanting to get on the bad side of the girl any more than you already had, you nodded and got up, somehow you knew that this wasn't the sort of person that you could afford to take lightly or ignore. Something about her felt horribly menacing, besides her bad attitude. You took a look at the girl and information flooded into your mind, it was information that you didn't have much of a reference for, but just from what little you knew, you knew that Avenger wasn't to be trifled with.

You didn't understand what the woman was getting at, but she seemed... happy? "Now, I assume you've prepared properly for summoning a Goddess such as myself, yes?" You just stared at the girl, who quickly appeared to lose her temper once more. "What's the matter, do you not speak?! Have the gods seen fit to punish me with a Master without speech? Or perhaps it is simply your wit that is deficient?"
"I... I'm sorry but I'm just totally lost." The angry woman seemed to calm down a little when you started to talk. "I woke up in the middle of a burning city without any memories, I ended up making myself to a church where... well I guess I summoned you?" You gave the woman a basic summary of the events that had led you to this point, and she just sighed. "I don't even know what my name is."

Not much better, but I suppose I must make do with what I am given." Avenger leaned against a wall before she started to talk very slowly for you. "I am what is called a Servant, and this is a Holy Grail War, typically, Heroic Spirits are summoned from the Throne of Heroes by Masters in order to do battle with one another until only one pair of Master and Servant remains, then the remaining pair shall be granted a wish from the '<span class="mu-i">Holy Grail</span>'. Blech, to think it would be the artifact of heathens to summon me." "A wish?" Even without a memory you were very much aware of the implications of such a thing. To be able to wish for anything you might desire. But what exactly did you want? "Yes, I did say that, Master." The Avenger sighed, and being treated like a complete idiot by the woman made you feel a little annoyed. "I suppose I should ask you just what it is you would use such a wish for... or indeed if you are willing to fight to the death for such a thing. To see scores lay dead before you in order to claim victory." Avenger looked into your eyes, her iridescent irises had flecks of gold and red within them as she waited for your answer.>[]"No, I won't fight." "I will fight. I want to find out who I am... no, I need to find out who I am." Your desire for information about yourself overpowered you in that moment, you had no idea who you were, and you hated that. To not know anything about yourself, knowing only a few tiny facts about the world that seemed to be helpful for your own survival... it was dreadful. Whoever you were, and however you lost your memories, you'd find out. You had to. "Ah, so a journey of self-discovery, is it? Well, in this case it does seem a rather literal application of the term, doesn't it?" Avenger giggled, though there was a sarcastic glee behind her laughter. She was making fun of you, it seemed. "Well then... what do you fight for, Avenger?" You asked an innocent question, and the face of the winged girl screwed itself up in annoyance, as if she couldn't believe you had actually asked her the question. "You haven't earned the right to know that, Master. In fact, were you not so crucial to my current existence right now, I may have just considered punishing you for speaking out of turn. Fortunately for you however, I can tell even now that I'm unlikely to receive anywhere close to the same amount of magical energy from another Master, so I believe keeping you around is in my interest... though if you even consider trying to use one of those sigils on your hand to command me to act against my will... I assure you that my retribution will be both swift and without mercy." Avenger clearly had pretty bad anger issues... and from the sound of things, she was pretty bad when it came to trusting others as well, even with something as simple as the reason that she's fighting. It wouldn't have been nearly so bad if she hadn't just pressed you for a reason to fight yourself, but you decided there was no point in remaining upset about it. "Woah, sorry... it was just a question." You apologized to the woman... somehow you felt like you wouldn't be getting along all that well with the Servant you had summoned, especially if she kept mocking you. You didn't feel like you were an especially prideful person, but everyone had their limit to being outright mocked for practically no reason. "But... sigil?" You looked at the hand she had gestured towards to find what appeared to be some sort of tattoo of red ink. It looked like a wing of some form, A picture that was made up of three lines. Avenger just sighed. "I shouldn't be telling you this at all, but those are your Command Spells, every Master with a Servant gets three, think of them like orders you can give me to help me in battle, they aren't absolute however. I want you to remember that." Avenger seemed to be threatening you, and you almost sighed. This woman really did like to threaten you a lot, whatever happened to her in her life, it must've given her serious issues about trusting other people.

You didn't get why she thought you'd do that. You didn't really think you'd enjoy holding something like that over another person anyway, even if they had given you a bad impression of themselves. Despite how she had acted towards you, you didn't think that Avenger was a truly bad person. "Eh?" Avenger seemed taken aback by your question, her mouth agape for a moment before she recovered her senses. "Explain yourself, Master. What do you mean?" "Well, so long as I win the war or manage to find out who I am, there's nothing I really want, and I imagine that you want to win the war as well, right?" You paused for a moment, trying to think of just what to say next. "So if we both want to win the war... why would I command you to do something you wouldn't want?" It seemed so obvious that it was almost irritating that you'd be suspected of doing something else. "I've already accepted that I might have to kill others to get this wish, haven't I?" "Good grief, your innocence is almost cute, Master." Avenger smiled, this time though, there was no mocking sarcasm behind her words. "Of course, if you really mean what you say, I suppose we might just be able to get along after all..." You really didn't understand this woman, but she seemed to like what you had just said. "Of course, the fact that you have no memory and therefore no strategic or tactical ability means that I'm not quite sure if you should be the one to be making the decisions in this partnership of ours." "What do you mean by that, Avenger?" You didn't quite get where she was heading with her suggestion, but you felt like you weren't going to enjoy it. "Well, I have quite a lot of faith in my strategic ability, so I'm suggesting that you leave such decisions to me. In fact, why not leave everything to me? I don't believe you'll be necessary for me to win this war... as I currently am, I don't imagine even the most talented of Casters would prove to be able to hold a candle to my current power... so why not just let me take charge, Master? You won't even need to lift a finger." Avenger was still smiling at you, and you really didn't know what to make of her request.>[]"You must be out of your mind, Avenger. I'm in charge here!" "I can't accept that, I need to see this through myself... though I appreciate your generosity." You couldn't just allow yourself to fade into the background while your Servant took care of things for you, you couldn't just leave your destiny entirely in the hands of Avenger here, no matter how powerful that she might be. This was your battle, and though you didn't understand the reason for which you were here, the only way for you to find out would be to continue to fight and see things through to the end. "Very well, Master. To be honest, I was hoping you would say that... I dislike the idea of a man who would willingly leave everything in his life up to a woman anyway." Avenger shrugged, clearly not all too bothered by the rejection. What... was the point of her offer if she didn't want you to accept it? "However, I ought to tell you that in a Holy Grail War such as this one, you ought to not trust anybody other than me." "What do you mean, Avenger?" You wanted an explanation from the Servant, who seemed to be at least far more informed than you were about the situation you were currently in, in fact she seemed incredibly well informed about just about everything that was going on. You were relieved that you had found somebody who could explain things to you. "Well it's mostly because I can tell that this Holy Grail War is not at all like what you might call a standard Holy Grail War, for one thing, we appear to not actually be within the world." Avenger seemed to be somewhat perplexed by what she was saying, like she was annoyed by the very situation she was in. "Not... within the world?" Even with your limited knowledge, the very concept sounded ridiculous, how could this not be within the world? Wouldn't that imply that you were currently in space? How was that supposed to work? "That's correct, it would appear as if this Holy Grail War is taking place outside of both Alaya's as well as Gaia's sphere of influence, it would be best to think of it like some sort of pocket dimension, a place where the rules of humanity don't truly apply." Avenger looked out of the window, taking in the sight of what seemed to be a city, it seemed like you were high up right now, in some sort of tall building. The city outside wasn't anything like the apocalyptic nightmare from before, and seemed to be relatively clean. "Whoever is behind this war clearly wants to avoid any sort of interference from the World, to the point where they were willing to expend enough energy to create what can only be called a small piece of an artificial world." "And you could figure that out how...?" While you didn't doubt the information that the Servant was giving you, you also wanted to know just how she had managed to figure out so much just from what would appear to have been a few glances.

"From the surrounding mana, of course. It's a strange blend between that which I am familiar with from the Age of Gods and a less familiar form of magical energy that seems to be of the modern era... but the knowledge I received from the Holy Grail tells me that there being magical energy from the Age of Gods is impossible. The year outside is 2023, and the Age of Gods ended millennia ago." She stretched as she continued to look out of the window. "Of course, what this means is that every single person you might walk into during this Grail War is a potential enemy, be they a potential Master or an actual Master, I strongly advise against trusting anyone... except me." "I'll keep that in mind, Avenger. Though I will judge them based on their actions, rather than some sort of preexisting idea of what might motivate them." Of course, Avenger was making a lot of sense, if everyone in this place was a potential enemy, then blindly trusting anyone you found could only end poorly. That didn't mean you were going to just treat everyone you met as if they were an enemy though, you felt like that just wouldn't make much sense. "As you say, Master..." Avenger continued looking out of the window. "However, I would suggest we hurry and find something to do. Sitting in place or staying in a fortress for an extended period of time is an excellent way to get your base broken into... or destroyed entirely." Avenger sounded particularly annoyed about that last part, but you decided not to investigate that, it was clear that this woman was quite protective about her past. "It is better to be proactive in matters such as this war." "You're probably right about that, Avenger... but what do you suggest we do?" Even if you were the one who was making the decisions, that didn't mean that you weren't going to take the advice of this woman, especially when she clearly knew far more about what was going on than you did.

"Nevermind, Master... my point is that we should strike while the iron is hot. Our enemies will be currently unprepared for battle, meaning that attacking now will grant us a high chance of quickly killing an enemy Master." Avenger was quick to suggest a very violent course of action. "Or, I suppose that I could try using my magic to scout the area first... but it appears to be a fairly basic modern city, we are at an advantage right now in that most Magi will have difficulty quickly adapting to an unfamiliar form of magical energy in this world... such amateurs." "Very well, Avenger. I will defer to your wisdom in this case and follow your suggestion to go looking for any possible adversaries that are roaming the city." Avenger smiled as you accepted her suggestion to go looking for an enemy to deal with early on in the war. She was definitely right, you had gotten lucky in summoning a Servant who was able to explain so much to you, and the same would almost certainly not be true about the other Masters, probably. Though to be truthful you really didn't know either way. The three boys that you had met earlier were clearly just as in the dark about this whole situation as you were, but you had no real way of knowing if they were a large enough sample size to go off of. "Wonderful, then let's be off, shall we?" Avenger walked close to the window and touched it with a single finger, you were about to ask what she was planning on doing until she uttered a single word, "Σπάσε!". The word seemingly held some sort of esoteric power, as the moment she spoke it cracks started to run up and down the entire window from the point her finger made contact with it, spreading beyond the glass and on to even the wall itself before glowing with a red light and exploding. "There we go." Avenger seemed pleased with the damage her spell had done, and you couldn't help but be impressed yourself, it was a pretty incredible amount of damage, and she'd done it with a single word! Still, you couldn't help but ask one thing. "Was that... really neccessary? Also, it looks like we're on like... the 20th floor or so of this building, so what was the point of breaking the window like this?" She couldn't honestly be intending for the two of you to jump, right? That would just be ludicrous! You knew that you were strong, but a fall from this height would still almost certainly be able to break your bones! "Master, I'll forgive you for being unaware, but traditionally, I would be summoned as a Caster class Servant, and I can assure you that despite some of the... limitations of the Avenger class, my ability as a wielder of magic hasn't decreased a single bit." Avenger happily revealed before she made a noise as she started to think. "I just need... a little bit of time to decide on the proper magic for the occasion is all. Ah! That's the one." You didn't really get what Avenger was getting at but it didn't matter. "Επιπλέουμε!" As she spoke this spell, you could feel a strange sensation settle over you, and you quickly realized just what had happened. "I'm... lighter than before?" You took a step off the ground experimentally and noticed that you needed to expend much less of your energy to do so. How very odd.

"Stunning observational skill, Master. Yes, that's correct. I've cast a spell on the two of us in order to manipulate our effective density when it comes to the modern law of... what is it you call it... gravity? Yes, that's the one." Avenger leaped out of the window and you watched as she fell like a feather in the wind, descending slowly as she looked up and waited for you to follow. "Come now, Master. I want you to understand that I have no need for this spell and can fly or take spiritual form whenever I wish, this is all for your sake, so try not to make me regret it." She spoke calmly as she slowly floated down away from the window, her arms crossed as she looked up at you with irritation, she was obviously waiting for you to follow her lead. In some ways, it was a little bit like a leap of faith, to take a step off of a tall building like this, but it was clear that Avenger had done so first in order to reinforce the idea of it being a safe thing to do, and after a moment of hesitation you stepped off of the building and plunged downwards... incredibly slowly, anyway. "There we go. Now, while we drop to the ground, I suggest we think of the best targets to pursue. Saber, Archer and Lancer could all be problems thanks to their class inherently having access to the Magic Resistance Skill, but I'm quite confident that I could deal with even a Servant with A ranked resistance to my magic. As a normal Caster I'd be in a bad match-up against them, but as I am now, even that wouldn't protect them." Avenger seemed to be remembering something particularly loathsome. "Not Magic Resistance..." Avenger's voice grew cold as she continued. "And certainly not other users of magecraft." You really didn't feel like it would be a good idea to inquire about that. "So they aren't too much of a threat, is what you're trying to say?" If Avenger's magic could work on them, what was there to worry about? She had just blown up a portion of the building with a single poke after all! "Oh no, Archer will always be a threat unfortunately. If I had to put things as simply as possible, Sabers specialize in short-ranged combat with blades, Lancers specialize in mid-ranged combat with spears that allow them to better keep their distance and Archers tend to use bows in order to keep a great distance from the battle." Avenger gave a quick explanation as to why Archer was still considered dangerous. "Against the two that require getting close to fight, I would be able to make short work of them with a few spells, which is something I can't rely upon when my opponent is kilometers away in an unknown location." You understood the logic, and nodded, it was strange that you were falling so slowly to the point you were able to face Avenger in the air and converse with her normally but you tried not to let it bother you.

"And the other Servants?" You were curious as to all your possible enemies, and Avenger clearly had a lot of information for you to use. "Well if it keeps to those that should be summoned in a typical Grail War... there should be Rider, who shouldn't typically be a threat unless their Noble Phantasm is excessively powerful. Then there's Assassin... who will be more of a threat to other Masters than to you and I as they focus on targeting weak Masters to bypass having to defeat powerful Servants, and you certainly don't count as a weak Master." You enjoyed the compliment, for what it was worth, but you didn't interrupt. "Then there's Berserker... typically total wildcards but a total non-threat so long as we keep our distance, which I guarantee we will... finally there's Caster, personally, I want to destroy Caster first. I want to see who the second rate taking the role is and crush them utterly." That didn't exactly sound very healthy, but again, your relationship with your Servant was pretty rocky already, so you didn't really feel like pushing things too much. "I see. Well, with any luck Archer won't be active just yet, and we'll end up meeting one of the other Servants first." That was the plan anyway, you had been meaning to ask Avenger if she had any way to actually search for enemies with her magic, but she clearly preferred this method. "Yes, that's the plan. Most Archers will require at least a little bit of time to find a decent vantage point to set up and fortify, and if we assume that only a small amount of time has passed since this war begun, they still ought to be discussing things with their Master." Avenger was tremendously knowledgeable on... well just about everything. "We're almost to the ground now, I suggest you readjust yourself so you don't land on your face." You did as your Servant asked, and though you didn't quite know how you did it, you still managed to adjust your body so that your feet would touch the ground first. It must've been a part of the magic that Avenger used. "So why did we decide to go to street level anyway? Wouldn't it have made more sense to have remained up high and moved between buildings?" "In some ways, yes... but most Servants are aware enough that they would notice something like that happening almost immediately, and even if I were to cloak the two of us with my magic it would require we move slowly so as not to cause distortions in the light which would similarly alert Servants to our presence. Better to be on the ground like this in order to appear less of a threat." Avenger did have a point, between the two of you, you didn't look all too threatening, in fact, it may well have been possible to confuse the blood stains on her wings for injuries!

It sounded fairly devious but you didn't really have too much of a problem with it. Appearing to be weak like this would allow for you to get a pretty good measure on the true personality of whoever you did end up finding too. "Effectively, yes. Despite my power, I don't really cut much of an imposing figure, so it's doubtful that a typical Master will think much of me at first glance." Avenger admitted, though having seen her power already, you knew that looks could be very much deceiving. You didn't know a great deal about magic from what little fragments you could pull together of your memories, but you did know that what Avenger could do was incredible. "Wait!" Avenger suddenly put a hand out to stop you, materializing a staff in her other hand as she waited in place. Seconds after Avenger's warning, a tall blonde man wearing fairly archaic armor and wielding a hooked spear stepped out from behind a corner, followed closely by a girl with blonde drill hair wearing an expensive looking purple dress. Of course, the two had already spotted you, though there was an extended silence between all four of you before the blonde girl spoke up. "Well, are you two the ones responsible for this then? "Ah, miss I regret to inform you that I'm probably the last person you should ask for an explanation of current events. I don't know if I look like an Einzbern or whatever else, I can't even remember my own name." You decide to give the girl an honest assessment, if for no other reason than to end this line of inquiry to which you have nothing useful to contribute. "Oh come now, you can't be serious! You don't know your own name? I've heard of 'playing dumb' but this is taking it beyond credulity. I, Lady Truvietianne Edelfelt(?) , will not be mocked in such a pitifully transparent manner." The girl huffed, clearly not pleased to immediately hit a dead-end on the first person she tried to gather information from. "Much as the situation displeases me, my Master is telling the truth." Avenger decided to speak up this time, "That said, missy, you shouldn't be so skeptical of your Servant's counsel. This is indeed a Holy Grail War you've found yourself in; you should reevaluate whatever assumptions you've made to make you believe such a situation is impossible." Hopefully she could get the other Master to move on from this topic and stop accusing you of deception. Being seen through as ignorant was a nuisance, but at least it was an honest nuisance. Being painted a liar on shaky pretenses was another kind of irritating. These women... Wait a minute. The girl said her Servant was a Lancer, and that spear he's carrying seems good enough confirmation. Why isn't Avenger attacking? She said that would be one of the easier classes to deal with, but she hasn't sprung into action yet despite all that eagerness to start a battle she had before. Could it be...!? You knees start folding of their own accord, and you throw your hands forward to barely catch yourself before your face smashes into the pavement. This sudden reflex catches the other three present off-guard, and the Lancer is the first one to speak up, "Uhh, sir? Are you alright?" "Specialize in mid-range combat... mid-range... mid-range..." you mutter to yourself before looking up at the Lancer. Judging the distance to be somewhere near 25 meters you come to a startling realization. "Sasuga, Lady Edelfelt (?) , truly you are a formidable Master indeed. You say you don't believe you're in a Holy Grail War, and yet you effortlessly make the optimal play based on sheer instinct?! What kind of unfathomable prodigy are you?!" You shout in shock, seeming flustering the other Master with your sudden brazenness. "Unfathomable prodigy? Er, I mean, of course I am! It's only natural that a noble lady of my calibre is exceptional in every conceivable way." She replied, regaining her composure, "Now, what was it that revealed to my magnificence? Took you long enough to notice, I dare say."
Anonymous
>>5342899 "Surely you can pardon an amnesiac novice for needing some measure of time to comprehend the brilliance of your strategy?" You reply, still unable to rise from your knees. "Truly, I took you far too lightly, for not knowing of your existence ahead of time is clearly no excuse when for your part you outmaneuvered and put me in checkmate before the first blow was even struck! Nay, before either of us had laid eyes on the other!"
The girl, whose eyes had been focused on you, suddenly turned aside and put one of her hands over her cheek, covering most of the profile of her face before replying, "Well, I suppose I can pardon your ignorance, just this once, since you had no idea who you were dealing with. Do continue."
Suddenly you feel a hand grip the back of your collar, pulling it taut as you hear Avenger angrily whisper, "Master, why the hell are you running your mouth like this? There's a difference between being personable and being a liability!"
"You said it yourself Avenger, and I must thank you for giving me enough information earlier to piece things together, though given the lateness with which I unravelled it, it was all in vain, ultimately." You respond, and Avenger's visible confusion leads her to loosen her grip, and you continue "With competition like her, truly I was doomed to meet despair from the start."
"What are you going on about?" Avenger asked, now more exasperated than angry, "I don't even care if it lets some useful information slip anymore, just get to the point already."
"Yes yes, do continue." The other Master repeated, although she still had her face turned away and covered with her hand for some reason.
"Well Avenger, the main reason I could tell I was outmatched was your eagerness to jump into battle suddenly vanished once they revealed themselves."
"What." Avenger replied, not a question so much as an exclamation of quiet fury.
"You said a Lancer was an opponent specializing in mid-range combat, and lo and behold, they chose to step forward at a range that could ONLY be considered mid!"
Anonymous
>>5342904 "Oh, you liked the timing when we stepped out?" Lancer piped in, speaking up for the first time in a while, "That was actually my id-"
"O-ho-ho, Lancer you mustn't make such presumptions." His Master interrupted, turning and slipping her hand in front of his mouth before continuing, "Of course I knew I could allow you to move of your own initiative, but only after I had evaluated your instinct on such matters to be nearly as impeccable as my own."
Quickly turning her back to you, she continued, "Alright then, Nameless Master, I suppose I can let the small fish off the hook for the time being. Lancer, we will disengage for now."
"Wait, do you mean Disengage as in the skill, or disengage as in withdrawing in general?" Her Servant replied, genuinely curious.
"Why would you need to use a skill with the name of a totally universal maneuver?! Look we're leaving for now, I don't care how many skills you need to activate to do it!" She snapped back.
"Alright alright, calm down 'your magnificence'." Her Servant replied, a little upset by her sudden dismissiveness.
"Hmph!" She replied in annoyance as they turned the corner they emerged from initially, leaving your view.
"Master." Avenger said after a couple minutes of uncomfortable silence.
"Y-yes?" You replied, staggering to your feet and more than a little worried about her impending outburst of wrath.
"I THOUGHT WE WERE GONNA DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE" She wailed, throwing herself into your arms and sobbing.
"W-w-w-what're you-?"
"I'LL NEVER INSULT YOUR INTELLIGENCE EVER AGAIN, SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE KEEP A LEVEL HEAD LIKE YOU DID JUST NOWWWWWWWWWW." She sobbed.
Well, this Holy Grail War was shaping up to be quite the interesting experience indeed.

"This may sound strange... but I actually have no idea what an Einzbern is." This girl clearly had some information that might be helpful for you, so you didn't actually want to fight her... even if that might've been counterproductive towards your final goal of winning the war, your true goal was simply to find out who you were, so it was worth investigating here. "You... don't?" The girl seemed slightly bewildered by your admission. "Well, that can't be right... there's no way that the Einzbern of all people would be responsible for the creation of a faulty homunculus that didn't know what they were... is there?" She put a finger to her chin as if you were some sort of great mystery to be deciphered. "Homunculus...?" You felt like that word should spark some sort of memory, but you couldn't quite place it. "Regardless of what an Einzbern is, I really can't remember anything about myself before arriving here actually... I think it might be some sort of amnesia." Avenger and the other Servant were glaring at each other as the two Masters conversed, and while you wanted to tell her to stand down, you also didn't want to be caught flat footed if the girl commanded her Servant to attack. "Interesting... well... memories or not, I'm almost certain that you're an Einzbern. But if you don't have any knowledge of the situation, I can't exactly assume you were the one responsible for it either..." The girl sighed. "Not long ago, during a lesson from my mother, I found myself teleported to a burning city where I was attacked by skeletal undead, I made my way to a church that was lit up with a beacon and took a silver coin from within a silver vessel, and that was when I summoned Lancer." The girl's story added up with your own experiences. "I'm Truvietianne by the way. Truvietianne Edelfelt, of the prestigious Edelfelt family... though I imagine you'd have already known of our family if you were still of sound mind." The girl shrugged. "I'd tell you my name, but... I can't exactly remember that either." You admitted, you really did wish you had a name. "That's unfortunate, but... I suppose that for now, I'll just call you... Einzbern. It may not end up being the case, but it's better than nothing, is it not?" The girl shrugged, mostly unbothered by your lack of a name. "I guess so." You agreed with the girl, but there was something from her story that you wanted her to clarify on just a little... when you reached the grail, there were 4 coins remaining in the cup, and you ended up picking up one of them, so... "A... silver coin? How many were in the cup when you took one?" It was a simple question, but something told you that the coins were incredibly important to figuring out just what was going on. "Hmm...? Twelve, or at least twelve before I took one... was the number different for you?" The girl didn't seem to consider the number of the coins to be important up until you brought it up.

You answered truthfully, seeing no reason to lie considering that the girl seemed to be telling the truth to you as well, and you'd never be able to reach the bottom of things if you were to just mislead the first person who seemed to be open to sharing information with you without exuding murderous intent. "Hmmph, then perhaps this means that each coin is indicative of a summoned Servant?" The girl reached into a pocket hidden in the folds of one of her dress and retrieved a silver coin from it, she was still quite a distance away, but you could make out the details on the coin and even got closer until you could see that it was clearly a spearman. It was dangerous to get close, but you didn't feel like the girl was the sort of person to attack out of nowhere. "Of course! The coins are the proof of your status as a Master! More so than the Command Spells, even! If each coin represents a potential Servant, then that means that at minimum there are twelve!" The girl seemed pleased with herself for figuring something out, but you were still a little bit lost. "What... what do you mean?" You were still in the process of figuring things out yourself, so you kind of wanted to know where she was at with her own theory. "Well, while I was in that burning city, I ran into a few people who were clearly not able to use magecraft of any sort and would've otherwise been incapable of summoning a Servant... but if you take a look at these coins, you'll notice that they're actually miniature magical reactors!" The coin in her hand shone a little as she revealed the true purpose behind the coins. "Miniature...?" Avenger repeated after the girl, before she turned to you. "Master, search your pockets." You did as your Servant asked and you too found a coin, unlike the girl's silver coin, your coin was black and had an X carved through it as if it had been scratched by talons, and you were left holding it in your hand. "Interesting... the magus girl is correct, though this alone wouldn't be able to allow a Servant of my caliber to fight at full strength, I can see it being enough for a lesser Servant." Avenger yawned. "All this means is that there's a possibility that those without access to magic circuits will be Masters, which at the end of the day will just mean that our enemies may well be totally incapable of magecraft! But... Twelve Servants...? That can't be right..." Avenger trailed off, though she at least took care to speak quietly enough that only you could hear.

Ordering Avenger in this situation seems unnecessary. I am sure she can handle some shitty assassin on her own discretion. If anything ordering her around over something so trivial could earn us her ire.
Running ourselves at the Assassin is both risky and stupid.
Risky cause they are still a servant no matter how weak. They could posess a Noble Phantasm that would kill us instantly. Stupid cause we would reveal our physical prowess to the enrmy master and 2 servants. And that is like the only card up our sleeve.

Seeing the burning knives embedded in the floor, what you had to do was completely obvious to you, and your body almost started to move on its own as you raced towards the unaware magus girl, grabbing hold of her and receiving a surprised shriek as you tackled her as far out of the way as you possibly could, getting her a few meters away from the knives which detonated mere moments after you landed on top of the girl. The flames from the explosion held a savage heat that lashed at your back as you shielded the girl from the worst of it, you had thankfully managed to get far away from the burst of fire that you avoided being hurt, your clothing was a little bit singed, but it seemed like you were a little bit too durable to be injured by the explosion at a distance. The girl looked completely stunned by your sudden action in protecting her, but you quickly got off of her before she could say anything about it, rising to your feet once again. Lancer seemed to have not noticed that the knives were actually primed to explode, having been too distracted by the attack of the Assassin to notice that the attack was a little more complex than simple thrown projectiles. Avenger however didn't seem surprised by the explosion, though she did look disappointed in the fact that you had dived forward in order to save somebody who was destined to become an enemy. "You... saved me?" The girl seemed to be the most surprised of all by what you had done. You had put yourself at risk in order to save somebody who you barely knew... but you couldn't just stand aside and watch, could you? It wouldn't have been right, even if you were apparently fighting in this so-called war, you were fighting to find out just what sort of a person you were... or rather what sort of a person you had been. With that in mind, if you had previously been the sort of person who would put his life on the line for somebody else... how would you be able to live with yourself if you just watched as somebody died in front of you like that? This wasn't just a matter of the person you might be though... deep down, this almost felt like the person you wanted to be, too.

"It's what anyone would do, right?" You shrugged as you helped the girl back to her feet, though she didn't seem all too convinced by your answer. "Besides, weren't you about to offer a truce of some variety? It wouldn't exactly be all that intelligent of me to allow a potential ally to be killed off like that, would it?" There was logic to your decision as well, beyond just helping the girl because you felt like it was the right thing to do, it was also the most pragmatic choice to take as well. In gaining an ally for this War, you'd be ensuring that you were much safer in general. You knew that Avenger was strong, and also confident in her strength, but you didn't know if personal strength would be enough to win the war, especially if her strength proved impressive enough to cause alliances against you to form. Of course, you didn't even know what the other Servants were capable of yet either, so despite Avenger's supreme confidence, it wasn't impossible that she would be outclassed in strength by some future enemy! Of course, you wouldn't dare say that to the girl herself, that would just be antagonizing the person who appeared to be quite able to kill you with a single word. "Yes, I suppose that it wouldn't make sense, would it?" The girl let out a sigh of relief. "I'd be happy to form an alliance with you after this though, one that we agree not to break until we are the only remaining Masters with Servants left in this war." The girl seemed to be beyond just wanting a truce now, instead opting to offer an actual alliance with you instead. "Master...?" Avenger called you over, and you looked back to your Servant, she clearly wanted to discuss things with you. Thankfully, it seemed that Assassin's attack was very much a hit and run, mostly testing the abilities of enemy Masters and their Servants, though had you not been around, it was possible that Lancer and Truvietianne would already have been taken out of the war thanks to the explosion from the daggers. It was a sneaky move, though not one that you wouldn't expect from a class that went by the moniker of 'Assassin'. Lancer had made a crucial error in not noticing, and though he remained silent, it was clear from the look on his face that he was absolutely seething about how that encounter just went. It was a complete failure on his part to protect his Master. "What is it, Avenger?" You noticed that Truvietianne seemed to be a little bit perplexed by you calling your Servant Avenger, but you didn't ask her about it, instead returning to the side of your Servant, it was probably safer that way. You didn't think that Avenger was going to be very happy with you putting yourself in danger though, she obviously had a wish of her own for this Holy Grail War after all.

"A suggestion of sorts... if you don't wish to do battle with Lancer and his Master for now, then I believe that we ought to relocate temporarily, at least for the duration of the discussions of the terms of this alliance." The spell casting Servant made a good point, it was obvious that discussing things in the middle of the street was dangerous, as it made it so that just about anybody could attack you from the rooftops if they so decided to. The interior of one of the many buildings would be a great deal safer, not to mention more comfortable. "Good point Avenger. Truvietianne... you don't mind heading inside, do you?" You asked the girl as you pointed to a nearby cafe that was close to your current position. "Not at all, I've been trying to gain some insight as to just what city we are in, but... I've not been having much luck. The road signs indicate that it's a Japanese City, but none of them match up with each other, conflicting directions and street names... it's very odd." The girl pondered on the situation as she turned her back to you and started to walk towards the cafe, before she stopped and looked at her own Servant. "Lancer, you needn't feel like you failed me in not noticing that the knives were set to explode, you were looking to protect me from an additional barrage from the assailant, and you couldn't have known." "Right. Sorry, Master... I'm not used to being tricked like this, I promise you, it won't happen again." The spearman seemed to still be upset with how things had turned out, but it was mostly because of his own failings rather than anything else. "Everyone makes mistakes, Lancer... though I will expect better of you next time." The drill-haired girl continued to walk, and though she was clearly unhappy with her Servant's performance back there, it didn't seem like she was going to hold him accountable for what had happened too much. Or at least she wasn't going to hold him to his failure in front of you anyway, it had been a pretty massive failure, but that kind of felt like it was the point of the Assassin class, to trick the Servant in order to allow for a quick assassination of the Master before the Servant could properly respond. With that in mind, Assassin completely overwhelmed Lancer here, distracting him by revealing his presence in order to prevent him from focusing on the explosive weapons. There were no more words discussed as you walked with Avenger towards the cafe, your Servant remained silent and calculating as she walked at your side, Lancer clearly didn't trust her either, as despite walking alongside his Master ahead of you, he continually took glances back at you and your Servant. You were a little worried that he might be preparing to attack, but in the end, the unsteady truce lasted until you were all in the cafe, and the four of you took a seat at a table somewhat further into the building.

“I’d like our arrangement to be as follows: We and our Servants are to refrain from engaging in acts of hostility against each other until we are the last remaining participants in this war. No further conditions.” You decide it’s best to make things simple and avoid getting into unnecessary social entanglements so early on into the conflict. Neither her face nor voice betraying any emotion, Truvietianne responds, “Your terms are acceptable to me. We shall have a truce in place, effective immediately, until all other parties are eliminated from the Grail War.” Both Servants look on for a few seconds as silence falls, you and your counterpart not sure where to take the conversation since consensus was reached so quickly. Avenger seems to have reacted impassively to your decision, to your relative relief. At least no tongue-clicking, glares, or eye-twitches were to be found. Lancer quickly notes with some amusement, “Well, that didn’t take long. Was there anything else you needed us for, or should we be going our separate ways now?” With a hint of annoyance, Truvietianne narrowed her eyes and interjected, “Lancer, I’m sure it’s a faux pas to walk out of a café less than a minute after being seated.” Addressing you and Avenger, she continued, her voice again in a neutral tone, “And matters of social elegance aside, I was hoping you wouldn’t be opposed to coordinating future joint actions. Perhaps we can set up a system to contact each other to share information as we discover it, or -” “I don’t mean to be rude Truvietianne, but I should clarify my position.” As you could tell she had hopes for making a more involved partnership, you needed to just nip this in the bud before she gets too attached to the idea. A little startled by your interruption, Truvietianne assents, “Very well, go on.” “Since I learned there are likely no fewer than 12 Master-Servant pairs, I knew that extending a non-aggression pact into a formal alliance would be sensible to increase my chances of seeing the end of this conflict.” Opening up your posture, you raise your voice slightly and continue, “However! For me, more than simple survival is riding on how I conduct myself in this Holy Grail War. I need to discover who I am. And in order to do that, I feel that I must be true to myself, without reservation. This is what I have decided to stake my life upon.” Softening your voice a bit, you add, “In short, I can’t let myself become a vine climbing a tree. At least for the foreseeable future, I need to face what comes my way with my Servant alone.” Truvietianne and her Servant remain silent, while Avenger responds with a smile, “Well said, Master.” Eyeing the other two at the table, she continues, “You’ll need to look elsewhere if you wish to find someone willing to so easily shackle themselves to your cause.” Oh dear. Is she trying to shoo them away or start a fight?

>>5361538 Luckily, an unexpected development cools the situation, namely your stomach growls rather noisily.
All eyes darting to you, you gently shrug in embarrassment and say, “Having said all that, maybe we can make an exception for finding some beverages and confections?”
The four of you share a chuckle before looking through the accessible refrigerators and behind the counter. A fair number of pre-packaged cakes and bottled drinks are easy enough to find, and the Servants both prepare separate pots of coffee for themselves and their masters. Avenger offered to make all of them, but Lancer’s insistence to the contrary was stern enough to discourage anyone else from pressing the issue. You might have considered his reluctance to trust you and your Servant a bit rude, but you couldn’t really blame him for being more protective given what happened with the assassin earlier. Avenger’s antagonism probably didn’t help much either.
As you finish your drink, you remember a comment Truivetianne made a while ago and ask, “Miss Edelfelt, if you don’t mind my asking, you said your arrival in the burning city interrupted a lesson you were having with your mother. Was it an academic lesson or one pertaining to magic?”
“It’s no trouble, she was merely helping me refine my casting of the Gandr curse. It’s a fairly simple spell that –” in the middle of her response, Avenger and Lancer both jump to their feet and turn toward the entrance of the café, the latter shouting, “Who’s there!?”
A man with close-cut brown hair and beard, golden armor, and an iron quarterstaff with golden clamps on both ends strode into the café and cheerfully answered, “Good afternoon! I’m a Lancer-class Servant, and I’ve been looking all over for someone to fight!”

Avenger answered just as firmly, “I will not make a liar out of my Master. You should focus on your real opponent without hesitation.”
The bearded Lancer interjected with a laugh, “If you’re so worried about that Servant, other Lancer, why don’t you both come at me at once? It might make me break a sweat.”

Working on filling out the plot and planning upcoming updates, I've realized some of the details of the Fate/TM setting are escaping my memory. If anyone could periodically volunteer answers when issues come up (such as the 3 questions below) it would save me quite a bit of time.
1) What are the mechanics of the stat-scrying ability that Masters use? I'm forgetting the finer details (when it gets blocked or information is revealed, etc).
2) Can Servants telepathically contact their Masters as a general rule, or was that a more niche ability?
3) What were the mechanics of Servants/Masters "sensing" each other's presence (which I think the Presence Concealment skill was designed to nullify)?
>>5361604 There is a nonzero possibility such situations could arise based on the stuff I've been brainstorming. That's a while off though. >>5361893 If I have my way it won't be dying hard anytime soon. >>5362277 I'm pretty sure master-servant telepathy is something that's handled by the command seals.

>>5362277 I think Rin mentions all three subjects in detail at some point in the beginning of FSN.
I recall stat-scrying worked mostly on ability of Master to understand what is going on and stat sheets were just how Shirou saw it, telepathy was part of CSs and Master and Servants sensing their presenses was just a mechanism to facilitate fights since it makes it easier to find opponents.

“I’m not playing along with his taunt. Stand guard here for now.” If this new Lancer had a hidden ally or some cheap trick planned, you weren’t about to let yourself be exposed to an attack with both Truvietianne’s Lancer and Avenger occupied fighting him. You also didn’t like prospect of letting yourself be manipulated by a clear enemy in general. “As you wish.” Avenger replies impassively. The quarterstaff-wielding Servant frowned for a moment, then shrugged saying, “Suit yourselves. I’m just looking for a good fight.” Stepping out of the cafe, he added in a decidedly sinister tone, “Just know that if I really wanted to force the issue, there wouldn’t be anything you could do about it.” This guy’s arrogance is starting to get rather irksome. “Why don’t you save your boasting until you’ve proved you’re more than just hot air?” you quip back. The only response you receive is a cocky grin from over the newcomer’s shoulder. Notably, he somehow managed to peel his upper lip back a lot further than what you were sure was normal. “Good luck, Lancer.” Truvietianne gravely bid her Servant as he stepped outside to follow, he himself replying, “I won’t fail you, Master.” Waiting in the middle of the street with his quarterstaff resting on his shoulders and behind his head, the bearded Lancer chuckled, “Touching. I almost feel bad for you now.” “Alright hotshot, let’s let our weapons do the talking.” Edelfelt’s Lancer said as shifted his posture into a readied stance about 10 yards down the street from his opponent. “You should pay close attention, Master. You’re about to bear witness to your first proper battle between Servants.” Avenger commented, turning to look you in the eyes, adding with what you could only guess was some kind of subdued disgust, “It seems circumstances have led it to not involve me, but I suppose there’s some strategic benefit to that, at least.” A bit confused as to why that last comment seemed tinged with accusation, you explain, “That’s right. If that guy has an ally or another assassin shows up, I need you here to quickly intercept them.” Deflecting to hopefully end this discussion (possibly bordering on an argument), you continue, “And I will pay close attention, that’s for sure.” Out on the street, the bearded Lancer artfully flourished his quarterstaff, ending in a surprisingly traditional-looking stance and mockingly shouting, “Let’s dance!” before bursting toward his opponent.

As the two Lancers clash, you could feel a flood of information rushing into your mind, similar to when you were able to make a preliminary evaluation of Avenger’s strength. One odd difference sticks out to you though. It seems Truvietianne’s Lancer was given the classification “Lancer of Black”, and the other Lancer designated, “Kuro no Lancer”. That doesn’t make much sense. Those mean the same thing, don’t they? Just in different languages? And Avenger didn’t have a color-classification to begin with. Although, it couldn’t hurt to quickly glance over to her and verify… Huh? Avenger of Red? You’re 100% sure that wasn’t there before. The hell is going on? More importantly, this “Kuro no Lancer” is strong. REALLY strong. You can tell he’s barely putting effort into the fight and showing off at every opportunity, but even so, Truvietianne’s Lancer can’t seem to land a solid hit. The best he can seem to manage is a few glancing strikes off the bearded Lancer’s armor, which accomplish diddley-squat in terms of actual damage, all the while getting periodically peppered with fierce thrusts and strikes from his opponent’s quarterstaff. “Khh!” Truvietianne grimaces, grinding her teeth and clenching her fists. Sensing his superiority, Kuro no Lancer hops back to give his opponent some breathing room before turning to the café with a smirk and laughing, “How’s that for hot air, red-eyes?” Clearly he remembered your quip. And as much as you hated to admit it, it looks like he had the strength to back up his boasts and then some. Turning back to Lancer of Black, he tosses his staff spinning into the air above him before announcing, “And for my next trick!” and falling forward onto his hands, cycling his legs forward into a handstand, and catching the staff in his FEET (which you just noticed were rather oddly-shaped), he continued, “I’ll give you a handicap, and fight without using my hands at all!” Worse for wear, but at least having caught his breath, Truvietianne’s Lancer sighed, “Whatever. I’ll take what I can get.” Despite the so-called “handicap”, Kuro no Lancer’s technique and power weren’t much lower than what they were before. Hopping around on his hands, he seems even to modestly improve his reach by switching his grip to his feet, though he clearly couldn’t hop around nearly as quickly as he could adjust his footing earlier. To his credit, Lancer of Black was holding his own a lot better in this bout, taking far fewer hits but still unable to land a clean one of his own.

That is, until Kuro no Lancer overextended his staff and swung it a bit too high. Then Lancer of Black ducked under it, quickly shouting “HARPE!” and thrusted straight for his opponent’s head. While his strike didn’t land on his intended target, it still left a noticeable gash on his opponent’s left forearm as the latter hopped away. As he stood back onto his feet, he looked visibly shaken by the amount of damage Lancer of Black dealt him. Truvietianne slowly exhaled, muttering “Took you long enough” with a smile. “T-that spear, is called Harpe?!” Kuro no Lancer sputtered in fear while trying to regain a proper stance. Declining to answer, Lancer of Black simply charged forward, putting as much forward pressure onto his opponent as he could. However, despite pressing his advantage due his opponent’s sudden lapse in morale, he couldn’t land another solid hit after all the damage he himself had taken, and with Kuro no Lancer currently back on his feet, focusing on evasion. Breaking off his attack, Truvietianne’s Lancer started reaching for a bag he had at his belt and answered at last, “What’s wrong, hotshot? One little cut and you’re turning into a blubbering mess. Do you want a good fight, or a fight that makes you feel good about yourself?” Regaining some of his composure, Kuro no Lancer replied, “I’ll admit, I took you too lightly. I hadn’t expected someone would have a weapon that could pierce my defenses so easily, so it came as a bit of a shock.” Pointing his quarterstaff directly at Lancer of Black’s chest, he growled, “Playtime’s over. RU-!” CRASH! A flash of lightning struck the street about 30 yards behind Kuro no Lancer. Since it wasn’t quite in your line of sight, you wordlessly signal to Avenger and Truvietianne to quickly move closer to the café’s entrance to get a better look. It seems that lightning strike wasn’t an attack so much as a method of transportation, as two Servants and two Masters had landed there. One of the Servants is a beautiful woman, her skin and hair white as snow and carrying a spear with a rather oddly-shaped tip, while the other looks like an archetypal wizard, wearing grey robes, a large hat, and carrying a wooden staff. “Hooh, this looks like an interesting development, eh Master? Should we update my orders? Maybe I could blast that unsightly Caster to ashes?” Avenger purrs. These mood shifts cycling between ice queen and playfulness can be kind of unnerving. “You’re right, we should-!” you start answering before you suddenly recognize the two Masters. They were two of the boys you saved in the fiery city! You think their surnames were Yumigawa and Matsuda, looks like they ended up summoning Servants and joining the Grail War too. You can’t help but wonder what could have happened to the short, cowardly one as well. “What is it, Master?” Avenger calmly inquires.

“It’s nothing, I think we can at least break cover for now and get a closer look.” With so many Servants gathered, the chance of some assassin trying anything should be miniscule. An Archer-class Servant could possibly launch an attack, but even if so, you hadn’t ordered Avenger to leave your side yet, so it should be fine. “Indeed, and my Servant needs my support.” Truvietianne interjected. Looking you in the eye, she continued, “This may be where we part ways for today, Einzbern.” “Fair enough, be careful out there.” You answer, wishing her well as she stepped out to reunite with her Servant. The least you could do, anyway. While you were discussing this, you could tell Kuro no Lancer had cracked a joke about there being too many Lancers running around, and the white-haired Lancer seemingly had readied for an attack in response. Listening in, you catch her saying in a somewhat stiff voice, “… must pierce your heart, brave warrior.” You hear Yumigawa nervously exclaim, “Wait a second, Lancer!”, whereas the Caster gently puts his hand on her shoulder and calmly explains, “Lancer, you know that man is not the one to whom your heart belongs. You need not attack him in haste.” Relaxing her stance and voice, she answered, “You’re right, Caster, thank you. Please excuse my eagerness, Master.” Relieved, Yumigawa replies, “Think nothing of it. For now, I’d like you to engage the Lancer with the quarterstaff.” Interesting, it seems she wanted to attack Truvietianne’s Lancer first for some reason. Hopping toward the sidewalk across the street from the café to avoid being surrounded, Kuro no Lancer responds, “So that’s how it is, last Lancer standing wins. Sounds good to-!” Startled by something, he changes tact and says, “Ah nevermind, looks like I gotta go, my Master needs a hand. No, no, you don’t need to use a Command Spell, I’ll be right over.” Tapping the ground with his staff, to your surprise a small cloud falls from the sky and lands right next to him, which he immediately hops onto. You notice Avenger charging up some kind of energy attack, her thinking in line with your own as you shout, “Who says we’re letting you escape? Avenger, shoot him down!” She immediately complies and fires a simple lightning-type attack at the cloud, blasting it to vapor. Kuro no Lancer himself had jumped onto the side of a nearby building to avoid the blast, looking a bit irritated himself now. Scratching his head and throwing his hand forward he growled, “Alright, as compensation for ditching you guys, I’ll let me, myself, and I take over from here.”

Suddenly, three copies of Kuro no Lancer appeared and landed on the street. They didn’t have his weapon or armor, but from how one of them eagerly shadow-boxed upon landing you could tell their physical strength was pretty close to the original’s. Intently focused, Avenger asked, “How are we playing this, Master?”> “Ignore the copies, make me lighter again and we’ll chase him down together as he tries to flee.” > “Move to support Truvietianne, her Lancer can fight from the front while you suppress the copies with ranged attacks.” > “Hold your ground. With the exception of Miss Edelfelt and her Lancer, kill anything that comes close.” > Something different (write-in) I can provide the stat-blocks of what you've been able to observe to inform your decision-making in a bit. Sorry if your PC was a bit of a bystander this time but I really enjoyed writing the fight.

Odin can cheat to get himself summoned like he did in FGO but having an outright fictional character would require something like the world we are currently is being under control/created by somebody like Nursery Rhyme since she can summon Jabberwocky and he is fictional. Original quest had Man with No Name as an amalgamation of Cowboy myths but unless we see Conan, Elric or Witch-king of Angmar showing up next I think it is Odin in his wandering stranger persona.

In the hypothetical Gandalf summoning more than likely they'd end up getting someone like Merlin or Odin in his 'Vegtam the wanderer' guise.

What happened to Ogawara Yatsuhide, anyway? “W-well, I guess it’s down to me now…” Ogawara Yatsuhide nervously muttered as he saw Matsuda Ryuuta disappear after reaching into the silver cup. Yumigawa had been the first to follow after the big albino guy, with Matsuda quickly following. Ogawara however, ever nervous to venture into the unknown, found himself without any external pressure and ruminating on the possibility of hidden dangers. “What if it’s actually a trap? They lure you into the safe-zone church to give you a false sense of security before spawning you into a room full of monsters if you take the obvious bait! Of course! Surely there’s going to be clues of some kind lying around here that explain the real thing you’re supposed to do, and any normie who goes with the flow without thinking gets the monster pit!” So he thought, rationalizing his timidity as prudence. Deciding to investigate the church for a while, Ogawara passed through the pews and looked over the books that were tucked into them. The first eleven rows of pews he saw all had identical books titled, “Sacra Scriptura”, but one in the twelfth row caught his attention, as it was far smaller and titled, “The Gospel of Judas Iscariot”. Opening it up and paging through, he found it contained scans of an ancient and worn document, alongside what he assumed were transliterations and translations in clean, typed fonts. Though not a Christian himself, Ogawara had played enough video games and watched enough anime with western influences to recognize Judas Iscariot as “the guy who betrayed Jesus”. A self-important grin creeping across his face, the anti-social otaku fantasized, “This must be the kind of hint I was looking for! Ha, those jocks will never know what they missed, rushing to that shady cup and getting teleported to who knows where. I bet they’re all captured or something, and I’m the one who’s going to figure out the puzzle and save them. I can just imagine the looks on their faces when I turn out to be the real hero! Maybe I’ll even come home with a harem of monster-girls!” Spending the better part of an hour looking through the book, he was disappointed to find himself getting bored. There wasn’t anything particularly relevant to his situation described within it, just some esoteric text that he could scarcely begin to comprehend. Putting it back in its place, he decided maybe getting too focused on a single detail wasn’t the best way to proceed, and instead started looking for more things out of the ordinary. Before he could find anything though, the doors of the church were flung open with a crash, and a bulky man in priestly garb, taller even than the albino guy, stepped inside.

“Aiiieeee!” Ogawara squealed in shock, then stammered, “Uh, uh, I wasn’t s-stealing anything sir! J-j-just looking a-around!” “Oh I’m well aware of that, my lad. However, I can’t have you loitering in here all day.” Quickly closing the distance to Ogawara, the priest continued in a warm voice that still intimidated the boy, “But where are my manners, allow me to introduce myself. Peace be with you, I am Father Triscus Adajio, overseer of this church, and more importantly, overseer of the Great Holy Grail War, of which you are to be the final participating Master.” “G-great H-h-holy Grail War?” Ogawara stammered in shock, “I’m s-supposed to participate in a w-w-war?” “Indeed you are, Ogawara Yatsuhide. Once you take the last coin from that silver cup, the final details will be initialized and the war can commence in earnest.” The priest answered with a smile. “B-b-but I’m not r-ready yet! I haven’t found all the c-clues! I don’t wanna spawn over a pit of lava or a room full of m-monsters!” Ogawara pleaded in abject terror. His face betraying a bit of confusion, the overseer hesitantly answered, “I’m… not sure where you’re getting these ideas from, young man. You’ll have as fair a chance to survive the war as anyone else, and your Servant will appear right at your side when the transfer is complete.” “I get a servant? Oh, is this some kind of strategy game, where trained fighters go at it and the normal people you pulled in just give commands?” Filled with hope, Ogawara suddenly began to feel as though he might be in his element after all. “Alas, were it so easy.” Adajio sighed in affected sympathy, “Normally your Servant would be the one making these preliminary explanations, but it seems your reluctance to step forward has placed part of that burden onto me. Your life will indeed be in peril once you summon your Servant and enter the war, for the Master and the Servant both play important and differing roles.” Crushed in terror again, Ogawara sheepishly stammered, “D-d-do I have to?” “You’ve delayed answering the call to adventure more than long enough.” His voice becoming actively menacing, the priest placed his hand on Ogawara’s shoulder, his grip slowly tightening as he continued, “Let me be clear. If I have to throw you to the living dead and find a new participant,” “OkokokI’lldoitI’lldoitI’lldoit!” the boy screamed, twisting himself from the overseer’s grasp and sprinting up to the altar. “Wonderful. Now go.” Adajio deadpanned. Taking a deep breath, Ogawara reached into the cup and grasped the coin. Feeling his mind shift into a different mode of perception, seven shining cards appeared in an otherwise empty space, each with a different portrait. As he reached toward one that had a charioteer on it, they all flipped around to reveal that in fact they all were the one with a horned monster as the portrait.

“Why even offer the illusion of choice?! Oh, I’m really in for it now!” the boy cursed as he grabbed the card and prepared for the worst. He felt a crushing feeling, as though gravity had increased. No, that wasn’t quite it. He could tell it was more like he was being pulled upward, like when an elevator starts rising. Well, taking relativity into account they’re basically the same sensation, but the point is he could tell he was being actively pulled somewhere. The crushing feeling intensified until he lost consciousness. When he came to, Ogawara felt himself lying on his back in a rather comfortable position. Opening his eyes, he found that he was lying in a bed in some kind of hotel room. Wait a minute… “N-n-n-no way… I thought getting dropped into lava would be bad, but somehow it’s even worse! It’s just like in those doujins I’ve read, this is a LOVE HOTEL! I’ve gotta get out of here, fast!” He thought in frenzied terror, jumping from the bed and rushing to the room’s exit. “Master, where are you running off to?” Hearing a feminine voice behind him, Ogawara froze in shock. Trembling, he slowly turned around to see a white-haired girl with oriental dragon-horns on her head sitting up in the same bed he’d jumped out from. His brain short-circuiting, the shut-in boy stammered, “W-where, who, a-a-are you a c-cosplayer?” Standing up from the bed, and walking towards him, the girl answered with a kind smile, “I am your Servant, Kiyohime. Even though I look like this, I’m a Berserker, you know.” “O-oh, right. I g-got signed up f-for that Holy Grail War thing. Ehehehe…” Unable to think straight in close contact with a girl who would be considered rather cute by most standards, particularly because he just learned he’d been in the same bed with her in a love hotel, the reclusive boy unconsciously decided the best response would be to flee. Turning back toward the door, he hurled it open to sprint out only to inexplicably find the horned girl blocking his path on the other side. Though she was still smiling, the undertones in her voice had become unmistakably menacing. “Anchin-sama, are you trying to run away from me?” “I, uh, well y-you see, I j-just needed some-!” “Anchin-sama. Are you trying to lie to me?” Falling into a dogeza pose, Ogawara pleaded, “I’m sorry! I was scared! I never wanted to sign up for a war, please forgive me!” “Master, I will serve you faithfully, so long as you don’t lie to me or run away from me.” Her body slowly becoming wreathed in blue flames, the Berserker continued, “But if you do lie or run, I don’t think I’ll be able to stop myself from burning you to death under a bell. Jaaang. Jaaang.” What an oddly specific threat. In spite of all his fear, the boy started putting the pieces together. “Y-you are the REAL K-K-Kiyohime? F-f-from the legend?” Ogawara stammered.

“That’s right, though you should call me Berserker unless we’re alone together like we are now.” The girl explained.
“A-a-and you think I’m Anchin?” The boy continued.
“I know you’re Anchin, Anchin-sama. Though you look different from the last time we met, you’re unmistakably Anchin-sama reborn. I wouldn’t have answered the summon if that weren’t the case.” Kiyohime answered again, visibly starting to calm down now.
“A-and your horns, they’re real too?”
The flames wreathing her body having died down, Kiyohime grasped her Master’s hand and guided it toward her head, coyly asking, “Why don’t you find out for yourself, Master?”
Rubbing her horns where they connected to her head, Ogawara came to the inescapable conclusion that she was a real dragon-girl. More importantly, she was a yandere dragon-girl from an ancient legend, who was convinced her Master was also her long-lost love reborn.
“T-t-this…” Ogawara stammered.
