You are Blair Weaver. Mercenary Captain. Dark Flier. Witch. Over the past five years, you’ve been busy making a name for yourself as the leader of the Blackwings, a renowned mercenary company that has seen victory across several fronts of the ongoing Fodlan Unification War. Your newfound profession has brought you into several conflicts against the Adrestian Empire, the Faerghus Dukedom, and the Fodlan Orthodox Church. Currently, you are in the direct employment of Claude von Riegan, leader of the Leicester Alliance, on a diplomatic mission to provide aid to the embattled Church of Seiros.
After a grueling battle in the remote Edmund Woods with not only the Orthodox Knights, but one of the Seven Sages of Agartha as well, the Blackwings emerged victorious. Having saved the hidden village of Arcadia, you sat down with its chief, Anemone, who was half-Agarthan herself. There, she explained to you not just the true origin of the Agarthans, but of Fodlan as well. Claiming that the Agarthans were her sworn enemy, you entered an uneasy alliance with the woman, whom you had previously met as Alena.
Having received word that Professor Byleth was alive and now leading the Church of Seiros at Garreg Mach, Claude has sent you to accompany an Alliance diplomat to a clandestine meeting between the two. The location of the meeting is Ailell, a fiery hellscape alternatively known as the Valley of Torment.

>>5486816 >“I’ll scout ahead and see if I can find the Professor and her men.” You volunteer yourself, pulling on Beathan’s reins. With any luck, taking to the skies will spare you from the overwhelming and oppressive heat you’re experiencing down here. “One moment, please.” Yara adds as she walks towards you. The shaman seems unbothered by the temperature. With the sway in her hips and the pipe in her hands, you might even think she’s enjoying herself. As she reaches you, she closes her eyes and brushes Beathan’s pelt. The pegasus does not stir under her caress, and you realize that Yara is attempting to peer into the future. You aren’t sure how the woman does it, and what she usually sees is admittedly vague, however it’s safe to say she possesses a sixth sense for trouble.
“I see a silver specter…hanging over your left shoulder.” She puffs her smoke directly into your face. “Perhaps stick to your right.”
>“Helpful as always.” You take up towards the sky, leaving Judith and the Blackwings down below with the supplies. A rush of hot air and smoke assails your face as you gain speed and quickly find yourself overlooking the land. The moniker “Valley of Torment” is a well-deserved one. The terrain is completely blighted, with massive craters and rivers of lava that seem to go on for miles. It’s no wonder that most people attribute this place to a byproduct of the Goddess’ Rage. Still, if this really is the result of a Javelin of Light fired by the Agarthans, then it’s all the more reason why you need to exterminate them all. As you scan the horizon for any signs of the Knights of Seiros, movement from the west suddenly catches your eye. You see a few shapes at first. Humans, likely scouts, peering over a steep cut of hill overlooking a large stretch of land. A particularly thick patch of smoke obscures much of the scene from your vision, but the mysterious scouts appear to be peering at something. A few scouts turn into several, and then additional mounted horsemen join them. Your first thought is that these must be calvary belonging to the Knights of Seiros, when you realize that the position that they’re holding is opposite the direction of Garreg Mach. Suddenly, a horn blows, and the loud bellow of men screaming for battle reaches your ears. Heavily mounted calvary now line the hill, as if preparing to charge downward into battle. Two of these knights carry large banners with them. One bears the unmistakable heraldry of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. The other is a similar blue looking banner, only instead of the typical Faerghus insignia, a large, gray lion is emblazoned on the front.

>>5486820 >“Is that…the Dukedom?!” You maneuver Bethan to get a closer look at the scene unfolding before you. Huddled together underneath the mountain is a small group of soldiers, wearing armor and colors distinctly different from that of the Dukedom. The Knights of Seiros have walked into an ambush! Suddenly, something twinkles and flashes before your eyes. Wasting no time, you instinctively pull Beathan to the right as an arrow just barely flies passed your left cheek. It seems you’ve been spotted, and by an extremely competent Sniper, no less. The Dukedom’s soldiers begin pouring into the valley before them, spears outstretched and ready to crush into the Knights. Meanwhile, from behind the mountain emerge a squadron of Pegasus Knights and Wyvern Riders, all of whom are heading towards your direction, along with cavaliers working their way over down on the ground. At a quick glance, you estimate there are over three dozen wings in the sky. Of course. If the Dukedom knows the Knights of Seiros are here, they must also know you and Judith are as well. You retreat in the direction of the supplies, where the rest of the Blackwings are waiting for you.
>“It’s an ambush!” You loudly declare, startling all as you land back on the ground. “The Faerghus Dukedom is fighting the Knights of Seiros, and they’re sending three wings of fliers our way!” “What?” Corrine exclaims in shock. “Were we set up?”
Judith can only groan in response as she gets up from her seat atop a supply crate. “Looks like Garreg Mach has got itself a spy problem. Figures. Nothing that boy plans ever goes easy.” She turns to you. “Did you get a good look at who the enemy commander is?”
>You shake your head. “No, but the soldiers carried a flag emblazoned with a gray lion on it.” Judith whistles. “Yeah, that’s the Dukedom alright. Count Rowe’s forces. And they’ve sent over their top knight it seems. The ‘Gray Lion’, Gwendal.”
Rowe? Gwendal?! Ashe was in service to those men! Was that sniper that nearly shot you-
“Snap out of the daydream, girl!” Judith barks. “This is your army, I’m just here for the ride. Now, what are we going to do?”
>“The force headed our way…they’re like a diversion meant to skirmish us. They’re meant to keep us away from the Knights. If we try and ignore them and push passed, those wings will capture or destroy the supplies meant for the Knights. We…can’t let that happen.” TreeHouses QM
>>5486821 The correct move to make would be to ensure the supplies remain safeguarded. Hold the bulk of the Blackwings back until the diversionary force is defeated, and then move forward to aid the Professor. The Knights of Seiros were outnumbered, but with the Professor and the Sword of the Creator present, they could likely hold out until help arrived.
But that decision would see you joining the Knights much later. If Ashe was really down there, he’d be fighting alongside Gwendal. And if you showed up too late, it was entirely possible that he’d be dead before you could get the chance to speak to him. Like it or not, you were facing a choice between your duty and your heart.

If we fuck up this contract the Blackwings stand to lose their biggest benefactor. If she was on her own I could see Blair going after Ashe, but not when she has the Blackwings depending her and with how politically important this battle is.

There's no way we can take all the distraction force out without some of our units being offed by enemy bow units. We need to wait until the knights have at least gotten rid of some of the enemy anti-air.

Okay, can we Drive-by Aircalibur? Like, if we fly past a flank and throw as many of them at the enemy as possible before bee-lining it towards the Knights with Diana and Shelly? Or would we have to engage fully to do something like that?
So we have two Bow users and Nero who have advantage against flying units. Roxanne have the stats to tank, Uriel and Corrine can act as Off-tanks. Uriel, Corrine and Elizabeth can heal and Clay will heal himself with his cheat-sword and OP passive. Milly is an assassin so she shouldn't take much aggro, but I don't know how effective she will be in the actual fight. Mina gets to show off her force multiplier here which will hopefully be a game changer. Question is if this team is strong enough to deal with the incoming flyers without the Trio of Pegasus Knights?
Because we can't leave alone, if we do we'd have a negligible impact on the battle so we have to bring other units with us, and Diana and Shelly are the obvious choices since they're our Tri-Attack team and anyone not on a Pegasus will be too slow to keep up. But if we leave with both of them the remaining units might be too weak, and then the best case scenario is we lose the supplies and the worst case scenario is dead companions. But if we don't leave Ashe could die before we even get to him
AAAAAAAA I need to think this through. Fuck.
And what about Kate, did she survive the Battle for Garreg Mach? Did she side with Edelgard or the Professor? If she sided with Edelgard would she be here at this battle, on loan from the Empire to aid the Dukedom? If she is here and we leave to find Ashe, will she just die if our side is victorious? Corrine knows her and might not kill her if they end up fighting, but would she be able to stop anyone else from killing her in the heat of battle? I am having a breakdown here what choice is the least bad one AAAAAAAAAAAA Anonymous

>>5487981 Lol good question. I don't know if I necessarily knew what I was getting myself into when I started. I think I initially estimated this might run for a few months, but that was back when updates were a lot simpler and smaller in scale so I could do them more frequently. That changed and then I estimated it would take a year, and as you said we're now approaching two in June. I think at the current pace of writing and with what I have planned it'll go on a little passed that. Who knows though? This is the longest I've ever gone consistently writing and it's certainly been enjoyable.

>>5488399 The Blackwings’ fliers quickly mobilize, ready to move out and follow you into the fray. Under Nero’s command are 15 Wyvern Riders wielding a variety of weapons. Under Ava, there are 15 Pegasus Riders who are similarly equipped. Flanking your sides as usual are Shelley and Diana.
“Hah! Their fliers haven’t attacked us yet. Are they getting cold feet?” Nero laughs. Up ahead, one can unmistakably see the Dukedom’s flying knights circling the skies.
“They’re not here to wipe us out. They just want to make sure we can’t help the Knights of Seiros. As long as we aren’t moving, they’re perfectly content to sit up there and wait until the Knights are exterminated.” Shelley says. “There’s something else I’m worried about though. See those cliffs over there? The ones overlooking the path forward?” Shelley points out the landmarks in the distance. “I think some of their fliers have been dropping off soldiers on them. Best case scenario, they’re archers meant to stop our infantry from moving through the valley. Worst case scenario, they’re mages capable of using siege magic. From that distance, a well-placed Bolting or Meteor spell could wreak havoc on our supplies.”
You squint your eyes as you try and look further into the distance. Shelley seems to be right. You watch closely as an enemy Wyvern Rider flies to the side of a cliff, allowing a passenger to dismount and stand atop a rough ledge. Below them, a small line of enemy cavaliers is beginning to form, possibly readying themselves to charge into the Blackwings’ infantry.
>“If those are siege mages, they won’t need to engage us at all. They can assail us with their magic while their fliers work to keep us away from them.” Nero grimaces. “What a dirty move. We could mop the floor with their fliers, but if they’ve set up an ambush, it’ll be a bloodbath.”
“What if we avoid fighting them? At least for now.” Ava suggests. “If our goal is to aid the Knights of Seiros, we can fly there in a different direction. They could choose to pursue us or stay behind and skirmish with the rest of the Blackwings. We’d reach the Knights at full strength, and we wouldn’t have to worry about being shot down from those cliffs.”
“That could work.” Shelley says. “But if they really are siege mages, we’ll be leaving the others left behind with no reasonable way of dealing with them. Those cavaliers will give our archers a hard time.”
“So, we either put ourselves at risk, or the supplies and the other Blackwings.” Ava mutters.

>>5488400 >“You said we can mop the floor with these guys, right?” You turn to Nero. “Then that’s just what we’ll do. They’re probably hoping we ignore them so they can sneak around back and cause hell for our friends on the ground. Instead, we’ll cut right through those fliers and take out any siege mages we might find. And then after that, it’s straight towards the Knights of Seiros.” Nero whistles. “This is gonna get messy. And fun.” He brandishes a spear with a wicked looking hook on its end. A weapon he affectionately refers to as a “Flycatcher”, that possesses the ability to rip through the scales and wings of flying mounts with great ease.
Ava nods her approval. “Very well. See you on the other side of that valley, Commander.”
You feel Judith hold onto you tightly as you take flight. “You’re a magic caster, right? It’s a good thing I’m tagging along with you, then. Light them up, Commander. I’ll deal with any of these bastards that think about getting too close to you.”
At your command, both wings of Wyvern Riders and Pegasus Knights take to the sky and begin moving forward to meet the enemy flying units head on. The three dozen or so enemy fliers ahead take formation, bracing themselves for impact. Taking the point alongside Diana and Shelley, you lead your soldiers forward as you mutter the incantation for Aircalibur. Raising your staff towards the sky, you launch razor sharp winds directly towards the enemy. The Dukedom’s Pegasus Knights look well-trained, but in the face of the anti-aerial spell, it’s all they can do to scramble out of the way, breaking their formation. One Pegasus Knight is unlucky enough to take the full brunt of the attack. The magic tears through the Pegasus, causing it to explode in a mass of red and white and send its unfortunate rider plummeting into the lava below with a high-pitched shriek.
>10xp Gained (40/100) >Aircalibur (4/5) Both the Blackwings and Dukedom collide in an explosion of weapons clashing, with pegasi, wyverns, men and women screaming on both sides. You watch as Nero flies ahead, Flycatcher slashing across the underside of an enemy Wyvern Rider. The creature roars in agony as its scales are ripped off, sending it crashing into the side of a cliff and splattering its rider. A Pegasus Knight clashes her spear against Nero’s, only for his wyvern to chomp down on the winged horse’s neck. With a wet ripping sound, the wyvern succeeds in decapitating the beast, sending the poor girl to her doom.
Ava stands tall upon her own Pegasus. Seemingly unbothered by the speed and velocity at which she’s flying, she plucks an arrow that catches one Wyvern Rider in the throat. Another Wyvern Rider and a Pegasus Knight target her and attempt a flanking maneuver. Before they can get near her, she’s already launched an arrow into each creature’s wing. She then glides out of the way as both enemy riders crash into each other.

>>5489583 The skies darken to a familiar gray, and you realize that Shelley’s intuition was correct. Someone is using Bolting. A giant thunderbolt descends from the sky, and two of your own Pegasus Knights as well as a Wyvern Rider are disintegrated by the powerful siege spell. Likewise, from your right, you spot several small meteors heading your way. You move Beathan forward, avoiding the second siege spell. Most of the meteors collide with the cliff, but one unlucky Wyvern Rider takes a head-on collision, crashing into another Blackwing and sending them both to the ground. The enemy’s siege magic is devasting, but with those attacks, they’ve revealed their locations, and you can now deal with them before they cause any more trouble.
>“Take the one on the left! I’ll deal with the right!” You order Shelley and Diana. Sure enough, you spot your target standing on a small strip of cliff jutting out. He looks to be frantically trying to cast another spell, but you don’t intend to let him finish. As you race towards the mage, an enemy Pegasus Knight attempts to intercept you. Flying towards your right side, she lunges at you with her spear, which is blocked when Judith reaches over and guards with her Rapier. Close up, you can tell the woman is your age, clad in soot-stained armor belonging to the Dukedom. She screams as Judith slides her rapier up the spear’s shaft, severing her fingers and slashing up through her face. With your assailant taken care of, you descend on the mage like a hawk. All he can do is put his hands up uselessly as you nearly bisect him with your new Killer Lance, giving the weapon its first taste of blood.
>30xp Gained (70/100) Surveying the ground below you, you find that the Dukedom’s cavaliers have engaged in battle with your own, with Roxanne and Uriel at the front. Even from this height, you can sense the woman’s glee as she cuts down rider after rider with her polearm. Uriel slays his enemies with minimal effort, while using his own healing magic to keep his allies in the fight. The fight down below seems to only just be starting, as more Dukedom soldiers head into the fray.
Meanwhile, the Dukedom’s fliers seem to be retreating towards their main forces. Diana and Shelley have taken care of their mage and have now linked up with the others. Your own soldiers in the sky are battered, but still in working order. Of the 30 fliers you started with, you reckon you still have 20 up and able. Moving forward into the valley, you spot that the fighting between the Dukedom and the Knights of Seiros is ongoing. The Knights are surrounded and are attempting to break their way out. >>5489585 Holding a path nestled between two flowing rivers of lava is a small unit of Dukedom soldiers. The group is standing still, not joining the main battle occurring with the Knights of Seiros. Instead, they seem to be holding the path from any Knights of Seiros who may be trying to escape. Given their small number, you identify them as a suitable target to take out as you work on whittling down the Dukedom’s forces and freeing up the Professor. You and the rest of the Blackwings then descend on your newfound targets. Identifying an enemy armored knight, you charge a Thunder spell, when something out of the corner of your eye causes you to lose your concentration.
>“A-Ashe?!” Ashe looks different. He’s taller, and his hair has changed. But you’d recognize the boy anywhere. And right now, he’s shot an arrow directly at you.
“What are you doing?!” Judith screams. You erratically dodge, pulling Bethan too low and accidentally grounding yourself. Beathan’s momentum causes him to continue running forward, away from the Dukedom soldiers. As you try to regain control and turn him around, you and Judith are launched from the saddle, landing only a few feet away from a flowing river of lava.
>Blair (50/55 HP) >Judith (50/55 HP) >“Judith! Are you okay?” The woman looks slow to get up, and you reach forward to help her. Suddenly though, she launches to her feet, slashing an arrow out of the sky with her Rapier. You turn around, and there’s Ashe. He has an arrow notched and pointed at the two of you. Behind him, the Blackwings are making quick work of the rest of his unit, as well as the cavaliers that have since joined the fighting. “Drop your weapons!” Ashe yells. Judith moves to attack him, but you manage to hold her back.
>“Ashe! It’s me, Blair!” “I said drop-” Ashe starts, but then lowers his weapon, seemingly noticing you for the first time. “B-Blair? Is that really you? What are you doing here?!”
“Yes, what are we doing?” Judith mutters.
>“I’m here for the Professor! Ashe, where have you been? We’ve all been worried and-” You inch closer towards Ashe, who raises his bow once more, arrow nocked and ready to fire. “D-don’t move, Blair! I’m here in service to my lord! I won’t let them down, not even for you!”
>“What?! Are you insane? Ashe, it’s me!” You move forward, only to be restrained by Judith. Ashe does not budge. “Blair…I’m sorry. But this is the path I’ve chosen. The Church of Seiros is evil. They’re the ones that drove my father to his death. I finally understand Lonato. He knew the price of standing for his beliefs, and I intend to do the same!”

Behind Ashe, you notice that while the fighting is still well underway, the Blackwings have the upper hand. If you listen to Ashe and surrender, the boy will just be slaughtered by Nero and the others in short order. You can try fighting him, but the only good that may do is that you may just end up killing him yourself. Now that you’re dismounted, you don’t have to worry about being shot down. You and Ashe never sparred before, and you’re not sure which of you would come out on top in a fight. But you aren’t alone. You can feel Judith growing restless next to you. Together, the two of you can likely bring him down in short order. It would just be a matter of avoiding landing a fatal blow.

If not, you may end up regretting it for the rest of your life. You walk slowly towards him, showing no indication that you intend to fight.
“Are you daft girl?! What are you doing?” Judith yells from behind. By now she must certainly think you’ve lost your mind.
“Blair! Stop, please! T-this is your last warning!”

A part of me thought I’d never see you again. And now you appear before me, and we’re supposed to kill each other? No. I won’t do that. You’ve told me about your hopes and dreams. How you want to protect your siblings and give them a good life. How you want to have a family of your own. I refuse to take that away from you. Even if it means my own death. So, do what you will.” Ashe keeps his bow up. His arms are shaking again. You feel as though time has frozen, and at this point, you’re fully prepared to die. A grimace crosses Ashe’s face though, and albeit slowly, he lowers his bow down, before dropping the weapon to the ground completely.
“Blair… I surrender. Consider me your prisoner. I won’t fight against my former comrades, but I won’t stand in your way either. I thought that I was ready to die out here. If the Professor had cut me down, then I would have accepted my fate. But seeing you here, now of all times…perhaps this is the Goddess’ way of telling me there are still things I need to do.” He gives you a smile. “I figured the heat must have been making me hallucinate. But…it really is you. Did…you get taller?”
A wave of relief rushes through you, as if a thousand-pound weight on your chest has finally been released. You move to embrace your one-time crush, when you’re interrupted by Diana and Shelley, who have flown in from their battle and flanked you. Their weapons are drawn, and they surround Ashe.

Then we can focus on getting out of this valley with our supplies in one piece. Ashe, do you think you can stay out of trouble until the battle is over?” Ashe nods. “I should be able to stay hidden. Just please…don’t go too hard on the Dukedom soldiers. Many of them are good people who are simply following orders. I believe if you can take out Gwendal, this battle should end.”
>“I’ll do my best. Stay close, and we’ll meet up after this is over.” You flash the boy a smile. “I look forward to catching up with you after this is all settled. Blackwings, let’s move out!” Beathan has recovered from the harsh landing he suffered earlier, and you mount your pegasus with Judith riding behind you once more. The Blackwings were able to catch their foes by surprise, dealing with both them and the enemy calvary with minimal effort. Fully reinforced, you take to the skies and make your way towards the main battle, where the Professor and the Knights of Seiros are currently locked in combat. Observing the battle from on-high, it’s plain to tell that the advantage is heavily skewered towards the Knights. You’re hardly surprised by the outcome. While they may have been outnumbered, the Professor’s Crest as well as the Sword of the Creator are more than a force equalizer. Already, the Dukedom’s vanguard has been completely depleted and is currently on the verge of defeat. While you don’t believe the Professor is in need of your help, you figure you can at least speed things along. The Blackwings descend on their foe. Flanked between both your own forces as well as that of the Knights of Seiros, the Dukedom’s soldiers hardly stand a chance. Once the immediate fighting has ceased, you land your pegasus on the ground, allowing Judith to dismount. In front of you is the unmistakable form of Byleth Eisner, Seteth, as well as a few other soldiers that you do not immediately recognize.
“You must be this Professor I’ve heard so much about.” Judith says. “Let’s leave the pleasantries for later. I’ve arrived with your supplies as agreed upon. My soldiers are currently defending them from the Dukedom as we speak. The sooner we rout this foe, the quicker we can get out of here.”
Seteth speaks first. “Agreed. Thank you for coming to our aid, Lady Judith. We’ve withstood the enemy’s first attack. Now let us push forward and strike the decisive blow.”

>>5493859 The Professor, always a woman of few words, simply nods. Despite the years passing, she looks the same as she always has. Her hair still sports the same stark shade of green that you recall it taking after the battle with Solon. She’s covered in blood, most of which is the enemy’s rather than her own. The look on her face is one of…boredom? Perhaps that might be stretching things. But she looks as though she’s in her natural habitat. She shows no signs of being worn down by the oppressive heat or even the fighting. To her, this all appears to be second nature. She nods her approval towards Judith, before looking towards you. She studies you for only a quick second, before raising her eyebrows and opening her mouth.
“Blair? Is that you?” The Professor move towards you and gives you a hug, staining your armor in blood. “It’s been so long. You look great.” She says, with barely a trace of emotion.
>“T-thanks…Professor. Y-you too.” You return the gesture, feeling Judith drilling a hole through the back of your head. The woman must think you an utter fool at this point. The moment abruptly ends when a soldier with the Knights of Seiros yells out in alarm, alerting those around him. “The Dukedom’s soldiers are gathering for another attack! They’ll be here shortly!”
“I see you still ride a Pegasus.” The Professor says after letting you go. “Are these your soldiers as well? Take them and head around the enemy forces. I’ll attack them from the front, and we can catch them in a pincer.”
>“Ahh…yes, we can do that…” You aren’t used to the Professor speaking to you as…an equal? Perhaps that isn’t the right word, but you can tell from her tone that she wasn’t ordering you around. Rather, she was able to quickly deduce that you’ve taken a leadership role and was offering her own suggestion to you, as another army commander. “Are there any other Black Eagles with you?” “Yes, but we can discuss that later.” Byleth says. “For now, let’s get ready to move out. Before the lady you arrived here with gets any more agitated.”
You leave Judith behind to stand with the Knights while you once more take to the skies. Observing the battlefield, it’s clear to see that the Dukedom is in utter tatters. The archers that had previously been camped across the river of lava have fled, likely looking to get away before your winged units picked them apart. Up ahead, Gwendal’s banner seems to be getting closer, though at this point in the battle, this attack seems more akin to a suicide rush than any actual maneuver. The Knights of Seiros stand strong, ready to take on the oncoming attack while you and your soldiers begin moving across the valley. You recall Ashe’s plea, asking you to spare as many of the Dukedom soldiers as possible.

Clad in heavy armor along with his horse, the man looks as though he could crash straight through a mountain and come out on the other side unharmed. At his back are several other mounted cavaliers, who look far less intimidating. Due to the cramped terrain, their formation is a complete mess. Likewise, many of the horses seem to be scared stiff from their proximity to the lava and are moving at a much slower pace. A great warrior is not always a great commander, and you find yourself unimpressed by Gwendal’s tactical ability. Perhaps it was common for knights to disregard all sense in their pursuit of honor and glory. After all. such thinking nearly cost Ashe his own life. Years ago, you had dreamed of becoming a knight yourself. You wonder if you’d be as foolhardy and stubborn as these two men had you embarked on that path.
Following the Professor’s suggestion, you take the remainder of your Blackwings who are still in fighting condition, and fly directly over the lava, out of the reach of any pesky archers or javelins from down below. Gwendal is a massive beast of a man, but you are hardly surprised when he is stopped in his tracks by the Professor and her Sword of the Creator. Almost at once, the column of charging soldiers seems to have hit a wall, and you take the opportunity to flank them from behind. As the Blackwings descend, you can hear the high-pitched screams of the Dukedom soldiers clearer and clearer.
“Enemy fliers! From behind! Turn around, damn you! Turn around!”
“Goddess, protect us!”
“No! I don’t want to die here!”
A pang of guilt crosses your heart. You know all too well the difficulties that come with leading soldiers into battle. But every person in the Blackwings was here of their own will. These men and women meanwhile, were forced to come to this hellish place, with many of them likely being drafted by Count Rowe. The guilt you feel quickly turns into disdain for their commander. He could foolishly rush into his death if he liked, but you’d at least do your best to offer these poor souls some form of respite. If not for Ashe’s sake, then at least for your own conscience.
>“You’re surrounded! Drop your weapons and return from whence you came or suffer the consequences!” You declare, hovering over the terrified mass of soldiers. Almost as if testing you, two spear-wielding soldiers rush forward to try and swat you out of the sky. One has an arrow enter his eye courtesy of Ava, while the other’s head is swiped off by Nero, rolling across the ground to fall into the lava. Thanks to the additional flair from your captains, the remaining Dukedom soldiers are all too happy to comply.

At his back are several other mounted cavaliers, who look far less intimidating. Due to the cramped terrain, their formation is a complete mess. >>5495030 Little by little, they drop their weapons and begin fleeing from the Knights of Seiros. Perhaps it was better that you never became a knight, you bitterly think to yourself. Against the enemy that awaited you, chivalry would only be a crutch. But at the very least, you could afford to offer these people mercy.
As quickly as the battle started, it ended just as fast. Despite their numerical superiority and ambush, the Dukedom’s forces were utterly annihilated and sent packing. You harbor no delusions that you played a big part in the battle. Rather, this was all the doing of Professor Byleth and her Heroes’ Relic. Perhaps Claude was right. If the Professor was capable of pulling off feats such as this one, then maybe she was exactly what was needed to defeat the Empire.
“You let those soldiers go?” Judith asks, disapprovingly. “That’s rather nice of you, but don’t you think they may just come back to harass us again enroute to Garreg Mach?”
>“Doubtful. With the ‘Gray Lion’, as well as the bulk of their army, lying dead here in the valley, they’ll be running all the way back to Arianrhod.” Judith sighs heavily. “You know, I figured you weren’t as bloodthirsty as that stepbrother of yours. But I never imagined you were so…softhearted as well. That stunt with that boy back there almost got you killed, and now you let the enemy flee when you had them cornered? I must admit, you haven’t exactly lived up to my expectations…”
>“I…apologize if I’ve disappointed you.” “It’s fine.” Judith says, in a tone that signals it’s not actually fine. “The quicker we get out of here the better. I’m going to meet with Seteth and your Professor. Go back and make sure those supplies haven’t taken too much of a beating. Otherwise, this will all have been for nothing.”
You return to where the main bulk of the Blackwings had been engaged with the diversionary forces sent by the Dukedom. A carpet of corpses line the path back to where they wait, the majority of which are fortunately in the colors of the Dukedom. It seems that not only did the Blackwings suffer very minor casualties, but the supplies came out unscathed. It was fortunate that you stopped to deal with those enemy fliers and siege mages, otherwise things may have turned out much differently.
“Welcome back.” Corrine waves. In addition to the soot that was covering her face, she’s covered in blood, and her two axes are both drawn and bathed in gore. “How was your date?”
>“He was alive. And willing to listen to sense, thank the Goddess. He’s with the Professor now. Along with some of the Black Eagles. Though as to who’s left, I have no idea.” “Lovely. Shall we have ourselves a class reunion?”

>>5495031 The act of transporting the supply crates through the Valley of Torment is an exhausting one, even without the Dukedom soldiers there to complicate matters further. Despite the Knights of Seiros assisting with the process, it’s still going to take quite some time before you can leave this hell-blasted land behind you. After you and Corrine clean yourselves of the gore from battle, you head over to meet with Professor Byleth and Judith to discuss the current situation. You find the two of them in a hastily constructed tent, meant to serve as a temporary headquarters for the short time left in Ailell. Along with the two of them is a dour-faced Seteth, whom you’d only previously ever seen from afar.
“Blair, how did the supplies fare?” Judith asks upon spotting you enter.
>“Not a scratch on them. It seems that the Dukedom was so focused on running down the Knights of Seiros, that the force they sent after us was ill-prepared to deal with the Blackwings. The Knights are now assisting us in moving the crates through.” Seteth nods your way. “Thank you for your assistance today, Blair. It’s good to finally make your acquaintance. I’ve heard much about you over the years. I had hoped I would one day have an opportunity to thank you firsthand for saving our knights and clergy from execution at the hands of the Crusaders back in Magdred. And now it seems you’ve come to our aid once again.” He bows before you, an act that catches you by surprise given his rank and stature. “It heartens me that our Officer’s Academy could produce such an upstanding young lady.”
“I agree.” Byleth says, smiling. “I never thought we’d meet again like this. You’ve grown into a fine woman, Blair. You’re no longer the timid, indecisive girl I once knew. The one who could hardly decide on what weapon she wanted to use. And is that you, Corrine? You look great too. I’m happy that the two of you have become good friends. I remember when you both hated each other.” She laughs.
“Thanks, Professor.” Corrine waves casually. “You don’t look like you’ve changed a bit over the last few years. You actually even seem a little…nicer?”
Though you take issue with the way Corrine phrases it, she’s right. The Professor couldn’t have been called ‘mean’ or anything of the sort back when you knew her, but she could often be seen as distant or even cold. It was almost as if she had never spent enough time around other humans. You once chalked this up to her previous life as a mercenary, but now that you’ve lived that life yourself, you weren’t so sure that was necessarily the case.
“Thank you.” Byleth says, smiling, and seemingly oblivious to the nature of Corrine’s comment.

>>5497348 >“Professor, where have you been for the last five years? We’d heard no word of you after the Battle of Garreg Mach.” “It’s…a complicated affair.” Seteth interjects. “The Professor was incapacitated and out of commission following the conclusion of the battle and the Archbishop’s disappearance. It was only recently that she was fit to join the conflict. And, needless to say, there’s been no shortage of fighting to help her get caught up to speed.”
>“I’m glad things are beginning to take a turn for the better for us in this war, but I must ask, how is all this possible? With all due respect, I’d heard the Empire had the upper hand in their fights with the Knights of Seiros?” “In addition to the return of the Professor, we’d received aid from some soldiers belonging to the Empire, led by Ferdinand von Aegir. It seems not everyone back home is happy with the way Edelgard and her minister have been conducting things. Though they aren’t numerous, Ferdinand’s forces have provided us with manpower we were in desperate need of.”
So, Ferdinand was one of the turncoats that Claude had mentioned? The two of you hardly interacted during your time at the academy, but you recall fighting him and his forces at the beginning of the war, during the Siege of Charon. It was good to know that he’d had a change of heart since then and turned against Edelgard. You just hoped he wouldn’t hold a grudge from that battle that saw you repelling his attack.
>“Are there any other Black Eagles that came with Ferdinand?” You ask, hopeful that you may meet with more of your friends. “A few.” Byleth comments. “Why don’t you go and see for yourself? I noticed you brought Ashe to us as well. He’s being held for the time being, at least until we can get back to Garreg Mach. Thank you though, for not killing him out there.”
>“What’s our plan now?” Seteth answers. “With the supplies secured and the way clear, we’ll be taking everything back to Garreg Mach. Once we arrive, we’ll meet to discuss our next course of action. I’d like for you to join us as well in that conversation, if possible, Blair.”
>“I’d be happy to. We’ll finish transporting these crates and have this valley to our backs in no time.” You leave the three leaders to conclude their conversation. Before you depart the tent, Byleth informs you that you can find the other Black Eagles nearby.

As you reach the top, you find a scattering of soldiers, some of whom are clad in armor very similar to that of which you’d seen back in the Empire. A man with stark, bright orange hair is delegating orders to those around him. He notices you approaching and calls out to you.
“Ho there! Are you from the Blackwings? An axle on one of our wagons broke. Do you think you can lend us a hand?” Up close, you can tell as clear as day that before you stands Ferdinand von Aegir.
“…Ho there?” Is that anyway to greet an old classmate of yours? Your manners must have seriously deteriorated over the years, Ferdinand.” Corrine chastises him, as he looks on utterly perplexed.
“…Corrine? Then that must mean you’re…” He turns to you, and for a second you think he’s about to react in a hostile manner. After all, the two of you did meet previously as enemies. You instinctively flinch and take a step back as he draws nearer, only to be surprised when he slaps a palm on both you and Corrine’s shoulders.
“Blair! It’s so good to see the two of you again! It’s been far too long!”
“Oh, it has. The last I recall; we sent you running with your tail behind your legs back at Charon.” Corrine says, smugly.
>“Corirne!” You almost berate your sister before Ferdinand interjects. “I’d prefer to forget all about that if you don’t mind.” He says, placing a hand on his head as if he were suddenly experiencing a migraine. “It’s true, we were enemies for a time. But a lot has changed since then. I hold no grudge against you. You’d caught us completely unaware in the dead of night. If you’d wanted, you could have easily slaughtered my men and I while we slept. You chose instead to force us into a retreat by severely crippling our supply line. The march back to Imperial territory was difficult, but it was preferrable to the mass slaughter you could have inflicted. Though it sounds strange to say, for that, you have my gratitude.” He bows his head. “And besides, I’ve learned a lot from that encounter. I won’t be making the same mistake again; you can count on that.”
“Ferdie! We’ve finished tending to the wounded. How are things going on your end?” You hear a familiar voice call out from behind you. Turning around, you notice two women are approaching your small group. One is a radiant looking brunette, wearing a rather fancy looking red dress that seems almost comically out of place given your current location. The other is shorter, with purple, messy hair, and a concerned look on her face. Time may have certainly changed these two, but you instinctively know who they are at a mere glance. Dorothea and Bernadetta.

She buries her face into your chest, and you can feel what is unmistakably light sobbing coming from her shaking form. “I thought you were dead for so long! And then I heard all these…horrible things! Oh, Blair!” She clings onto you tighter, an act that you replicate. When she finally releases her grip, she looks up as if to study you further. “By the Goddess…you’ve grown up so much.” She sniffles. “What happened to that cute little shy girl I shared a room with all those years ago? Words can’t express how much I’ve thought about the two of you.” “Blair…” Bernadetta says. “F-for the longest time we all thought you were…you know. They said your room had burned down with all your possessions, and there were c-corpses…And then you turned up again but…everyone back home was saying all these really scary things about you. I-I didn’t believe them for a second by the way! Honest! I knew you could never really flay your enemies and bleed them dry! R-really!”
>You can’t help but laugh. Despite all the time that has passed and everything that has happened, in this one moment, it feels as though everything is as it was back at Garreg Mach. “I promise you, Bernie, I’m the same old Blair you knew before.” “What brings you here, anyway?” Ferdinand asks. “We knew Judith would be coming with soldiers, but we never imagined it would be you and your mercenary company.”

Caspar’s father is the head of the Adrestian Military. He could never just abandon him in such a way. Likewise, Linhardt’s father is also an important minister of finance.”
“And as for Petra…” Dorothea says, sadly. “Despite everything, she’s still very much a hostage, meant to keep Brigid in-line. If she had defected, she might be putting her entire country in danger.”
“My…father kept a watchful eye on me for many years.” Bernadetta says. “It was only recently I was able to manage to escape his estate and join up with Ferdinand and the Professor.” She shakes her head. “I can’t…no, I won’t go back there!”
“In my case, House Aegir was stripped of all its power after Edelgard instigated her coup. I tried to serve her still…for the good of the Empire. But…she’s changed from the woman we once knew. Her personality has darkened, and I believe that her intentions for this conflict are far less noble than she claims. I could no longer standby and pay witness to the atrocities committed in her wake. So, I decided to throw in my lot with the Professor and Lord Seteth, in hopes we may be able to carve out a better future for the Empire.”
“We’d made a promise…to reunite with the Professor at Garreg Mach one day.” Dorothea says. “She’d been missing for so long, but even still, she stayed true to her word and met us there. I just know that she’s the only one who can set Edie straight. For better or worse.”
“What about the two of you?” Bernadetta asks. “Umm…why did you leave without telling anyone?”
You and Corrine share a brief look. It’s one that she’s often given you in the past, when she fears you may reveal more than necessary. Bernadetta’s question doesn’t exactly catch you by surprise. You figured that if you ever ran into any of your former classmates, they’d want to know exactly where you’d gone off to on that fateful night. While you don’t believe it’s a good idea to delve into the full details regarding the Agarthans, you want to at least make sure that your friends know that you left the monastery for a good reason.>“Before the assault on the Monastery happened, I learned something troubling about Edelgard. It’s a long story, and I can’t exactly get into the specifics. However, neither Corrine nor I could bring ourselves to fight for the Empire under the present circumstances surrounding it.” You pause before continuing. “And I want to apologize for leaving without saying anything. I think a lot about that day, and if perhaps there were things I could have done differently. It was never my intention to vanish without a trace, but things quickly took a turn for the worse, and we had no choice but to flee.” The others take your answer in. While it’s clear that they still have many more questions on their mind, for the time being, they seem willing to accept your answer at face value. “If you say it’s a good reason, then I believe you.” Dorothea says. “Frankly, I’m almost a bit envious of the two of you. What occurred that night was nothing short of a tragedy. I still dream about it vividly. The monastery set ablaze, the Demonic Beasts…and all those friends that we lost in the fighting as well. If I’d been given the opportunity to flee, I would have gladly taken it. Believe me, nothing good came staying that night.” Bernadetta vigorously nods, confirming she shares Dorothea’s thoughts. “There’s no need to apologize.” Ferdinand says. “The important thing is that you’re here. We all share the same lot. We’re deserters. Traitors to the Empire. The best thing that we can do right now is support each other, and the Professor. That’s our only hope of bringing this war to an end and putting a stop to Edelgard.” “Are you going to fight with us again, Blair?” Bernadetta asks. “A few years may have passed, but I still really hate being on the battlefield. It would make me feel a lot better if I knew you were out there.”>“Ahh, perhaps. I am still technically under the employment of Claude and the Alliance. But it seems like our two groups may be aligning. And at the very least, I’ll be going back to Garreg Mach with you all, so you’ll have me for a bit while longer.” “That’s great! I can show you around!” Dorothea cheerfully exclaims. “Fair warning, the monastery probably looks…quite a bit different than you remember it. We’ve been working hard at restoring the place but…well sieges do leave a bit of a mess.”

>>5502330 >“Ahh, speaking of the other Black Eagles, would you happen to know whatever happened to Kate?” Your one-time squad mate and fellow Pegasus Knight, Kate was a dependable friend who had even saved your life back when you’d been kidnapped by Kronya. She’d expressed interest in working under you back when it looked as though you’d be joining the Imperial Army as a commander. Given how that never worked out, you’d often wondered what became of her. You’re dismayed as you watch the smile on Dorothea’s face slowly fade. “To be honest, I don’t know. She fought in the Siege of Garreg Mach under Edelgard. And she took your leaving pretty hard. The last I’d heard of her; she was still fighting for the Empire. But as to the specifics, I really couldn’t say. I haven’t seen her ever since then.”
Your conversation is interrupted by an approaching soldier from Ferdinand’s contingent of soldiers, who salutes his commander before relaying his message. “My Lord, the supplies have been secured, and we are ready to depart!”
“Finally! I hope to never visit this dreadful place again. Blair, Corrine, let us continue this conversation back home, at Garreg Mach. We need to mobilize our men and get out of here.” Ferdinand says.
Dorothea clasps your hands. “Yes! I know you’re a big shot mercenary commander now, but please come see us at the monastery!”
>“Of course. Until then.” The trio departs, leaving you and Corrine alone. She strikes up conversation as the two of you make your way back towards the Blackwings.
“So, what do you think of all this?” Corrine asks you. “Do you really believe that the Professor can turn the tide of this war around? Sure, she’s strong, but she’s still just one woman. She’s up against the entire might of the Empire…not to mention the Agarthans in the background.”
>“It’s as good a shot as any we’ve had. You know that.” “Of course. But what do we do now? You heard those three back there. They want us to come back and fight alongside them. I must admit, the idea is tempting. But I fear we would be leaving too much left undone were we to join up with the Professor. At least right now. Her focus is on the Empire, which I fear would leave the Agarthans with too much room to operate. And Anemone is still seeking out the identity of the sage hiding out in Ordelia.”

Also this is a tough choice, Agarthan's are our number one enemy but they still support Edelgard and the empire is causing mass havoc in the land so taking them out first would mean we can solely focus on the Agarthan's next, i mean in the Golden Deer route they managed to not only kill the Agarthan's but also the revived bandit heroes so it should be doable to just attack the empire and then the snakes.

>>5502331 >“This is all a lot to take in. I mean, just a few days ago I never thought I’d see any of these people again. Whatever we decide to do, I’m going to need some time to think on it.” “I figured as much. Just remember what I said earlier. Use your brain, not your heart. They have their fight, and we have ours.”
Reuniting with the core group of Blackwings, you’re finally able to say goodbye to the Valley of Torment. A sense of palpable relief washes over you as you put the volcanic fumes to your back and are once again greeted by clear blue skies. The march to Garreg Mach takes only a few days, much of which is spent dividing up loot found from whatever the Dukedom soldiers had left behind. You’re told that Ashe is within the custody of the Knights of Seiros. While he surrendered himself over, he refused to say outright whether he’d be defecting to their side. As such, Seteth did not feel comfortable letting him go about unattended, particularly when he might be carrying crucial information related to the Dukedom. You were at least assured by the Professor that the boy would not be tortured or interrogated. Perhaps you could talk some further sense into him?
After several days’ worth of marching, you gaze upon a sight you thought you’d never see again. The spires of Garreg Mach Monastery may be extensively damaged, but they still stand proudly. Even in its current state, you feel a sense of nostalgia you hadn’t thought possible. You’re told that the Blackwings are free to stay within the grounds of the monastery for the duration of the stay. Given the continued lack of manpower available to the Knights of Seiros, you’re sure that there’s plenty of room for your company to spread out comfortably.
“Garreg Mach.” Uriel says next to you, warmly. “Never did I think I’d live to gaze upon it once more. Even I have lost track of how many years I spent within these walls. It does my heart well to see it still standing after everything.”
>“I know what you mean. I hope you’re able to enjoy your stay here, Uriel. Even at their current number, I imagine you must be intimately familiar with many of the Knights stationed here.” “Perhaps. But do not worry. I do not intend to go running off to join my former students. Not while you still have need of my lance.”
TreeHouses QM
>>5504032 “Well, you enjoy yourself for the both of us, geezer.” Clay says, on your other side. “Things look a bit too stuffy for me in there. I’ll camp outside the monastery’s gates. I’ll be far more comfortable, and I can even keep an eye out on any suspicious characters. We don’t want another enemy army sneaking up on us after all.”
>“Huh? You’re not coming inside?” You ask Clay, disbelief evident in your voice. “I thought you worshipped the Goddess? Do you know how far pilgrims travel to come and pray here? And you’re not even going to step inside?” Clay shrugs, unbothered. “The Goddess doesn’t reside within those walls. She’s everywhere, watching over us all. The way I see it, I can pray to her anywhere I choose. I don’t need to be surrounded by brick and mortar to pay my respects. Besides, I already told you I’m an adventurer! Camping out under the stars is what I do!” Before you can offer any further protest, he diverts his horse and heads away by himself.
“Leave him be.” Uriel says, unbothered. “The man means well, and he has his own reasons. Best not to pry.”
>“If you say so…” The barracks that accommodate you and your company are comfortable, and as foolish as it sounds, you’re relieved you won’t have to spend the night in the remains of your old, burned-out dormitory. After settling in and unpacking your belongings, you decide to pay Ashe a visit. You learn that he’d been transferred to the dungeons of Garreg Mach, one of the few places in the monastery you’d never actually visited. You make your way there with Corrine following behind. The meeting with Seteth and the Professor won’t be for a while, and you decide it better to speak to the boy before anyone else does. Despite the less than glamorous conditions present in the dungeon, Ashe himself still looks to be hale and healthy.
“Blair!” He calls out upon seeing you. “Thanks for visiting. Sorry I uhh…don’t have much to offer.”

The truth of the matter is, I refused to fight for the Church of Seiros. The way I’d saw it, the Archbishop and the Church were the ones responsible for driving Lonato to his death. It was because of them that I was…forced to kill him. So, when I’d learned that the Empire was attacking, I fled. I had been exchanging letters for some time now with Count Rowe. He had absorbed Lonato’s former territory into his own following his death. The two had always been close, and he had offered me a position in his service as a knight after I graduated. You were supposed to become a knight for honor! For your siblings. Not…vengeance!” “I learned the truth.” Ashe says. He reaches into his coat, and produces what looks like a worn, weathered book. “Do you remember our battle against Bishop Santiago? From the Western Church? After we killed him, I thought that was the end of it. That I’d killed the man who’d manipulated Lonato into rebelling against the Church. But as the battle was ending, one of his aides approached me. He told me he’d heard what I said about wishing to avenge Lonato, and he handed over this book. It was Lord Lonato’s diary. >>5505116 >“A man from the Western Church gave you this? Who was he?” Ashe shakes his head. “I don’t know. He was an older man. He wore a cowl over his head, but I could see a white mustache and small eyes. I’d never met him before, and he disappeared before I could ask any more questions. But I’m certain it’s Lonato’s. It makes mention of me and my siblings. And the final entries written inside…they say that Lonato had found undeniable proof that Archbishop Rhea had evidence fabricated in order to condemn his son to death.”
Ashe’s revelation is news to you. He’d mentioned before that he’d received a book from a mysterious stranger but had always remained tight-lipped about the contents inside. If such a thing were true, you have no doubt that it would be the perfect catalyst to drive Ashe against the church. And yet, everything regarding how he obtained this book seems entirely suspicious to you.
>“Ashe…if this is true, I’m sorry. But how do you know this book is the real thing?” “It’s real.” Ashe says, almost defensively. “I’ve read through it so many times I’ve lost count. But it’s real. It has to be. I’d recognize Lonato’s handwriting anywhere. And…it talks about my siblings. It talks about things that only he would know!”
“So, what now?” Corrine asks. She’d been by your side the entire time. “We gave the Professor our word that we’d handle you. Are you going to rot in that cell for the rest of your days? Even if you wanted to return to that half-rate lord of yours, the Knights of Seiros would never have it. You’ve seen and heard too much already.”
“I…don’t know. But I won’t fight for the Knights of Seiros. Not for the Professor. Not for Seteth. Not even for you, Blair. They can burn in hell for all I care!”
You had hoped you could reason with Ashe, but it seems that unless something drastic changes, his mind has already been made up. Whether or not you believe this “diary” is real, Ashe does, and it’s clouding his judgment. If you push too hard, he may end up reacting badly.

I am amused that Corrine is going to see Blair fencesitting on the issue of whether her true enemy is the Empire or the Agarthans, until she can use fighting the Agarthans as a way to convince Ashe to be with her. Truly, Blair is driven by thoughts of cute boy.

>>5505122 >“I’m not asking you to fight for the Knights of Seiros. I’m asking you to fight for us! For the Blackwings! We have our own enemy that we’re up against. One that I believe is the true culprit behind all of these tragic events that have been plaguing us for years. And that might even include the circumstances of your father’s vendetta against the Church.” “Blair!” Corrine snaps aggressively. You know where her objection lies, but it’s too late. If you don’t tell Ashe the truth of things now, what alternative is there? Could you allow him to rot in this dungeon because of his own stubbornness? You were not plagued by nightmares of his fate for all these years to let him throw his life away in such a manner.
“What are you talking about, Blair?” Ashe asks you through narrowed eyes.
>“Kronya. Solon. Didn’t they strike you as different? As though they were not the same as us? That’s because they weren’t. They belong to a race of creatures known as the Agarthans. For centuries, they’ve used their abilities to masquerade as other people in order to undermine human society. You’ve seen this happen twice now already. There was Tomas, the librarian. And Monica, of course. They use this ability to set in motion plans and schemes that fit their own greater agenda, all while keeping humanity enthralled under their thumb. This entire war is of their own doing!” By now you realize that you’re almost on the verge of yelling. Corrine, having given up on trying to stop you, now paces relentlessly, ensuring there are no eavesdroppers present. Fortunately, it is only the three of you.
“Blair…what are you talking about?” Ashe asks. Any edge that was present in his voice when speaking about Lonato earlier has now been replaced by confusion.
>“I’m saying…that the Empire isn’t our only enemy. The Agarthan menace that has taken over my homeland and subverted its leadership must be stopped. And right now, we’re one of the few people in Fodlan that are currently fighting against it. I don’t know if the Professor knows this information. Right now, her and Seteth’s priority lies in marching on the capital and defeating Edelgard. We on the other hand, have something else we must do. One of these Agarthan leaders is present in Ordelia. He’s been kidnapping villagers for a purpose that I can only imagine. And soon, we’ll be going to eliminate him. If you wish to hold a grudge against the Church of Seiros and the Archbishop, I won’t take that away from you. I understand well the pain you have been through. But if you wish to still do some good and point your bow against an enemy that deserves it, then join me.” TreeHouses QM
>>5506150 Silence follows as Ashe seems to contemplate what you have just said. What a horrendous reunion this has turned out to be. And yet, for having often wondered how you would ever break the revelation to him, you feel a sense of relief for finally getting things off your chest.
“This is…a lot to take in, Blair.” Ashe finally says, after what feels like an eternity. “I always knew that there had been something off about those two. But it never occurred to me that they might not be…human. Do you…have any proof?”
>“No.” You bark. “At least not any proof presently with me. There’s a woman. She is Agarthan herself, only she’s turned against the rest of them. She’s allied with us and is currently in Ordelia right now. You’ve met her once before, back in Rusalka. Her name was Alena.” Ashe paces around his cell, appearing as though he were in turmoil. “Forgive me, this is just…” He shakes his head, and then looks at you determinedly. “I don’t know if I can take all this at face value just yet, Blair. But I do know that in all the time we’ve been together, you’ve never given me reason to doubt you. So, I’ll help you. You say this guy in Ordelia is kidnapping villagers? Whether he’s a monster or a human, he sounds like someone that needs to be stopped. And if along the way, I find out more about these…Agarthans, then all the better. So yes, I’ll join the Blackwings.”
>“Ashe!” You feel a sense of joy before Corrine cuts in. “What about your siblings?” Corrine asks. “Will they be okay while you come with us?”
Ashe nods. “I left them in the care of a trusted friend, and they have plenty of gold to get by for the time being. And hey, now that I’m a mercenary, it sounds like I’ll still have a steady stream of gold to keep sending them. I’ll write them a letter explaining I’ll be tied up for a while.”
“And your Count?”
Ashe shrugs. “After the loss he just suffered, he won’t notice one knight missing. I imagine he’s liable to think I perished in the fighting. Which works well enough for me. Regardless of my feelings towards the Church of Seiros, I’m done fighting against Prince Dimitri and the Kingdom.”
>“Then it’s settled! I’ll tell the Professor you’re coming with us, and they’ll let you out! The Blackwings are stationed at the old barracks. You can find us there.” Ashe gives you a formal military salute. The action almost seems comical given that it’s coming from behind iron bars. “Thank you…Commander! I look forward to working under you!”
You depart the dungeon with Corrine in tow, elated at the prospect that you’ve not only been reunited with Ashe, but that he’ll be joining your company as well.
“What a strange boy.” Corrine muses. “I just don’t understand what you see in him.”

And knowing that he’s going to be by my side fighting with me…it fills me with a strength I hadn’t thought possible.” Corrine sighs, exasperated. “Well, I suppose the heart wants what it wants. Though I may not understand it myself, I’m glad that this means you may cease your habit of moping and daydreaming. And the important thing is that you’re happy. The Goddess knows we haven’t really had much to be happy about these last few years. If this is what it takes to bring a smile to your face, then I’ll support it.”
With a plethora of time to kill before your meeting with the Knights of Seiros is to take place, the two of you begin wandering the grounds of the monastery. Despite the best efforts of those working to restore the monastery, there was still much work left to be done. Many of the houses and structures still carried signs of devastation from the siege. The greenhouse had been reduced to nothing but a pile of rubble, and many of the dormitories were still considered unlivable. Before you realize it, the two of you manage to find yourselves in front of the old, burned-out Black Eagles dorm.
“Ahh, now this is nostalgic!” Corrine says. “I still remember the look on your face when I knocked on your door that night. You were always so easily startled.”
>“Couldn’t you have broken the news to me in some way other than dragging me out of bed in the middle of the night?” “I suppose I have a flare for the dramatic.”
The dormitory before you is completely destroyed. What remains of the walls are charred black, a result of the Fireball spell you’d cast the night of the siege. At some point, the roof of the place must have collapsed as well. If you look hard enough through the rubble and debris, you can see what looks like the frame of your bed, splintered into several pieces. The corpses of the three students you’d fought that night have been removed, but when you look down towards the street, you can see the faint traces of a blood stain. That must have been where you’d stabbed Ronald, using Kronya’s dagger. You remember that well. You kept stabbing and stabbing. That was the first time you’d ever killed someone with a dagger. The proximity of it all sickened you in a way. At least with your magic and spear, you could kill from somewhat of a distance. But with a dagger, you could hear all the messy sounds and gurgles that came with killing. And feel them, too.

>>5507626 >“If you don’t mind, I’d like to visit the old grounds the Knights of Seiros would use for training. I frequented that place quite often back in the day. And I’m curious to see if a certain person I knew still haunts them.” Corrine scoffs. “You come back to Garreg Mach after all that time away and you want to visit those dusty old training grounds? When all of this fighting is over, we’re going to need to seriously reexamine your hobbies. It’s uncouth for a girl of your caliber to only be interested in fighting and fishing of all things.”
The two of you walk over to the old Knights Grounds. Compared to the other areas of the monastery you had passed; the training grounds seem to be in a far better state. The grounds are currently in use by a large squadron of soldiers belonging to the church, who are in the midst of what looks like their daily drills. As you get closer, you can unmistakably hear a familiar voice screaming at the soldiers and spurring them on.
“Faster you louts! I’ve seen more energy from children! Quit falling behind, Kieran! I swear to Seiros herself if I see you stumble on your sprint one more time, I’ll have you cleaning the stables until the war’s over!”
“I see time hasn’t made him any softer…” Corrine mutters.
Leopold von Deltz is in his element, and he looks exactly as you remember. The Paladin and veteran Knight of Seiros was a closer mentor to you than even the Professor had been. You had spent dozens of hours training with him, working to become stronger and make up for your lack of a Crest. And while most of that training had entailed Leopold beating on you until you were at the point of collapse, you can’t deny that it had been effective. He’d even helped you to gain control of your emotions in the midst of battle, allowing you to refrain from giving in to your anger and fear while under pressure. You’d last seen him charging off into battle during the night of the siege and were relieved to have learned he’d survived. If anyone would be hard to kill, it would be him.
As if sensing your approach, Leopold turns towards you and Corrine. “Halt! I don’t recognize you. These grounds are off-limits to those not from the Knights of Seiros. Leave now.”
>“Sir Leopold, I’m happy to see you well. It’s me, Blair.” The look Leopold gives you borders on disbelief. You’d never seen the man so perplexed before, so this is a first for you. “Blair d’Rusalka? No, I suppose you must not go by that name anymore. I don’t know what’s harder to believe. That you’re alive and standing before me, or that you managed to grow up into a halfway respectable and decent woman.”
“Decent?” Corrine adds, amused. “Why that must be just about the nicest thing I’ve ever heard you say, Sir Leopold!”
“I see you’re still keeping that foul girl around. I suppose despite all your growth, your decision-making skills still leave much to be desired.”

>>5508718 >“Ahh, and for a second I had almost convinced myself that I missed you.” Leopold smirks. “You know, I truly did think you had died. No one was able to account for you after the battle. It was as if overnight, you had gone from a pupil I’d grown somewhat fond of to just a memory. A name on a long list of other names that I would think on before battle. Ones that I swore I would avenge in my fights against the Empire. But imagine my surprise when I’d heard a Dark Flier calling herself Blair had freed a group of Church prisoners from execution? And she even slaughtered the offenders to a man, no less. THAT was how I learned you were still out there. At that moment, I’d felt something that I hadn’t known for many years. Pride.” He places his hand on your shoulder, squeezing it. “Welcome back to Garreg Mach, Blair. I hope all that training was of some use to you.”
>“I fear without it, I would have died long ago. Thank you, sir.” “Would that I had but a few more of you.” He says, turning back to the soldiers training. “The Knights of Seiros have suffered tremendous loss these last few years. Even with Byleth Eisner’s return, we’re still at a fraction of the strength we’d had when the Archbishop was here. We’ve been forced to loosen our restrictions in an effort to recruit more able-bodied fighters, but I fear most of them will never catch up. Many are even younger than you were when we met.”
>“It’s a good thing they have you then. I could not think of a better mentor to guide them.” Leopold snorts. “Now you’re just flattering me. I’m but a single man. One who is far too overstretched. In truth, I could use your help. Our Pegasus Knights used to be the strongest air force in Fodlan. However, the loss of Dame Serena, as well as the constant fighting that we’ve endured, have left them all but depleted. I fear their current Knight Commander has only a fraction of the talent Serena possessed. Perhaps you could show her something?”
>“It sounds like you…want me to teach a class? Don’t you have to go to school for that type of stuff?” “You attended the finest officer’s school possible. Not to mention you have plenty of real experience to back you up. I’d say that makes you more than qualified to instruct others.”
“Sounds like work. And something that will take up a lot of time.” Corrine says. “You know we usually charge for this type of stuff.”
“You’ll receive no monetary compensation. There’s barely enough of that to go around as is. I’d ask that you do this out of a sense of duty towards the academy as well as to aid the war effort. But I understand you’re a mercenary now, and your kind doesn’t get out of bed unless there’s profit to be had. So, I’ll find something to make it worth your while.”

>>5508720 >“Very well. I’ll see what I can do. It’s just as you’ve said, I’ve plenty of practical experience leading other Pegasus Knights into battle. It shouldn’t be that difficult to teach some of it to others.” You return to the barracks to pick up Beathan, as well as enlist the aid of Diana and Shelley. You weren’t one for bragging, but you figured that the three of you were amongst the best Pegasus Knights in Fodlan. With their help, you should be able to get through even the thickest of cadet’s skulls.
“Why are we doing this again?” Shelley asks you. “Am I to understand that we aren’t even being paid?”
>“Consider it…community service! Besides, we’re likely to be allied with the Knights of Seiros in the upcoming battles ahead. Wouldn’t you feel more at ease if you knew that the Pegasus fighting alongside us were competent ones?” “I think it sounds like fun!” Diana says. “I used to love it when Serena would teach all the pegasus cadets how to fly. Now we get to do it too!”
Even with the monastery in its present state, you could find the pegasus stables with your eyes closed. Such was the amount of time you’d spent in the place, practicing for hours on end with Beathan under the gaze of the late Serena. Much like the training grounds, the stables look to be in working order, as if recently reconstructed. While Garreg Mach was still in disrepair, at least priority was being given to the facilities necessary to keep the army moving. A few cadets seem to be milling about, chatting or stretching before getting into their drills. This place had always been a hotbed of activity, but you notice far fewer numbers now than before. Could the casualty rate amongst Pegasus Knights here really be that bad? A short woman clad in the standard Knights of Seiros armor approaches your group upon spotting you.
“You must be Commander Blair. Sir Leopold said I should expect you. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Mary, and I’m the captain of the monastery’s Pegasus Knights.” Back sharp and straight, she gives you a curt, formal military salute. Her armor is spotless, as if she takes great care to shine it each day. Up close, you note that she’s young. Perhaps even younger than you are. You try to recall if you’d ever seen her before, back when you attended the Officer’s Academy. Unfortunately, you’re unable to recollect her face.
“Oh my gosh, Mary! It’s been so long!” Diana shouts from beside you. She rushes forward and embraces the captain, who grows stiff and embarrassed under your Right Wing’s grasp. “It’s been like…forever! You look great! Did you say you’re the captain now? That’s a huge promotion! Congratulations girl!”
“D-Diana?!” Mary stammers. “W-what are you doing here? You’re with the Blackwings?”

>>5510564 “Yep! I work for Blair now!” Diana turns to you. “Blair, this is Mary, she’s so sweet! We trained together for a while under Serena. We were like…classmates…kinda! Only Mary got to become a Knight of Seiros and I didn’t.”
“Y-yes. It’s a shame Serena never let you join us. I recall you were…exceptional in the air.” Mary manages to acrobatically maneuver out of Diana’s grasp and restore some shred of dignity.”
“That’s okay. I was super sad about it at first…but now I have the Blackwings! And I get to fight with Blair and Shelley here! I know they both look super scary but they’re actually really nice!”
“No, we aren’t.” Shelley says.
“You must have gotten really strong too, Mary!” Diana says. “If you’re the captain now, that means you must have surpassed all the other officers! Where’s Miria? And Deneve and Helen?”
An awkward silence follows.
“Actually…they’re all dead. I became leader largely in part to the chain of command falling onto me.” Mary says, sullenly.
“Oh.” Diana says, taken aback. “Well, you must have been pretty close to the number one seat, right?”
>“Diana-“ You start. You can immediately sense where this conversation is heading. Perhaps worst of all is that you don’t sense any malicious intent from Diana’s question. It holds all the same biting edge as a child calling a grown adult ugly. She simply does not know any better. “I was actually…fifteenth in line.” Mary says.
Another awkward silence follows, only broken by Shelley clearing her throat.
“Ahh…wow. That many, huh?” Diana says.
>“That doesn’t matter. You’re the captain. And the lives of these girls are in your hands. I trust that you’re a competent Pegasus Knight, but if there’s anything that we can do to help increase your effectiveness on the battlefield, please let me know. We’re here to help.” “Thank you.” Mary says, turning once again towards you. “Truth be told, any advice or pointers you could give us would be both extremely helpful and greatly appreciated. We’ve all heard much about your exploits on the battlefield, and the girls are all excited at the prospect of receiving instruction from a Seraph Knight.” She bows her head deeply before you.
Goddess help you. Any shred of confidence this girl must have had was completely eviscerated just now by Diana. She was the fifteenth in line?! Just how are you supposed to help her? Let alone an entire division of pegasus cadets just as green, if not greener? You think back to all the teachers you’ve had in the past. Perhaps there was something there you could borrow.

>>5510566 You count yourself fortunate to have had a plethora of mentors throughout your life. Though each one had their own unique style of instruction, they each played an invaluable role in making you the woman that you are today. Therefore, you find that you can’t just try and copy one of their teaching styles and pass it off as yours. Instead, you’ll attempt to do this your own way. And while it’s true you’ve practically never taught anyone anything, ever, you feel confident enough in your own qualifications that you can do a meaningful job here.
“Cadets! Listen up!” Mary shouts. She seems to have recovered somewhat from Diana’s shredding and regained an air of leadership to her. “We have a special guest with us today. Please welcome Blair Weaver, Seraph Knight and leader of the Blackwings mercenary company! Together with her troupe, she’s here to lead our instruction today!”
Excited murmurs erupt from the students present as they gaze towards your direction.
“Did she say she’s a Seraph Knight?” One cadet asks loudly.
“That’s the Witch! I hear she steals men’s souls and makes them her slaves!”
“I thought she’d be taller…”
Mary turns her head towards you. “I’ll leave the rest in your hands. Only a handful of these girls have seen real combat. The rest are all green. Rookies and volunteers with only a few flights to their name. Truth be told, I’m worried they’re liable to turn tail and desert at the first sign of an Empire Wyvern Rider. Perhaps there are some…inspirational words you can say? Something that will really raise their morale.”
Inspirational words? Got it. That should be easy enough. You were no stranger to public speaking. Even before assuming command of a mercenary company, you had to address an entire contingent of Rusalkan soldiers that were ready to march off into battle against rebels. Not to mention plenty of your classes back at the academy covered just this very topic. Pushing your shoulders back and standing straight, you clear your throat and address the group of cadets in front of you.
>“It’s an honor to stand in front of brave women who are willing to take up arms against the Empire!” You start with a wide-sweeping compliment, hoping to quickly curry favor with the cadets. Some of them look pleased with your words, while others give you nothing but vacant stares. It looks as though they have a hard time believing that anyone could consider them brave.

Whether you’re scouting ahead for ambushes, delivering a message of strategic importance, or making a run for the enemy’s backline, there are things out there that only you are capable of doing.” The girls in the crowd look as though they’re paying attention if anything. Perhaps you had them just where you wanted them!
>“However, don’t think that this makes you heroes! Or gives you permission to run off and act on your own, throwing away your life. I’m not here to show you how to do that. I’m here to show you a trick or two that may end up saving you in the heat of battle. Because ultimately, more than anything, we want you to stay alive out there. You aren’t expendable assets that can be extinguished at a moment’s notice. There’s plenty of rebuilding to be done after this war is all over. You have a life, and families waiting for you to return to them. Let’s make sure that happens!” You couldn’t exactly call it thunderous applause, but you’re rewarded with a few cheers and claps from the cadets. They appear to be in a far better state than how you initially found them and look far more energetic. It seems you were right to trust your instincts. Perhaps after the war is over, you may explore a lucrative career in teaching?
“Alright you disgusting maggots, form-up!” Shelley yells. “Get on your damn ponies and show me some moves!”
Your cohorts move forward to provide instruction to the young cadets. Before you can join them, you’re stopped by Captain Mary. Though still putting on an authoritative face, you can tell through the cracks that the girl is exhausted.
“Thank you, ma’am. The cadets look as though they really took your words to heart. They’ve never responded to me that way before. I can see why you’re a Seraph Knight.” She bows her head politely.
>“It was nothing, honest. I’m just happy to help in any way I can.” “I wonder...is there any advice you could give…me? Truth be told, I sometimes feel as though I’m in over my head. And please, don’t hold back. I can take it.” Mary says. You find yourself somewhat doubting the authenticity of her claim.

I had help from people like Diana and Shelley, who made up for my shortcomings. If you try to shoulder the burden all by yourself, you won’t last long. These girls want to succeed just as bad as you do, and they’ll work with you to make it happen.” Mary sits on your words for a moment, absorbing them in. Finally, you see her smile for the first time in the short while you’ve known her. “Thank you, ma’am. I’ll take your advice to heart. The next time you see us, expect us to be much stronger than we are now. You can count on it.”
>“I look forward to that! I think deep down in her heart, Diana still wishes to be a Knight of Seiros. So, make sure you make a squad that she can be proud to join one day.” After leading instruction for a few hours, you and your girls take your leave of the cadets. Feeling good about how you left them, you make a mental note to swing by Leopold and claim your reward.
The next day, the war council that you were asked to join is set to convene. You wake early, and head towards Garreg Mach’s chapel. While you’ve been inside the chapel for service before, you’ve never been inside the sprawling room you find yourself in. Apparently, it’s frequently used for matters of grave importance relating to the Church of Seiros and its knights. As you take your place next to Judith, you briefly wonder how you ended up here. Returning to Garreg Mach has really driven home just how far you’ve come.
Seated in the room are Seteth and Byleth, both of whom are representing the Knights of Seiros. Ferdinand is also present, representing his contingent of soldiers.
“Before we begin, I’d like to thank the two of you again for your support.” Seteth says to you and Judith. “Already, the much-needed supplies that you’ve brought us are being distributed amongst the troops. That’s not to speak of the additional manpower you’ve provided, which has helped to greatly ease many of our burdens. With your aid and the recent success that we’ve enjoyed, I believe it is time we take advantage of our momentum and go on the offensive against the Empire.”
“I believe Claude is the one you should be thanking. Much of this was in part to his own planning. Now, believe me, I’m as happy as anyone to see how well you’ve been sticking it to Edelgard and her cronies. But do you really believe you’re ready to invade the Empire?” Judith says.

>>5514438 Seteth nods. “I do. While it is true that we still lack adequate numbers to face the enemy’s armies head-on, I believe we won’t receive a better opportunity than what we have now. We’ll use our small army to our advantage to swiftly take over key locations as we blaze our way to the Imperial capital.”
Byleth adds in. “I agree. It will be a fierce fight, but the longer we wait, the more the Empire will consolidate its power. We’ll press the attack while they’re still caught winded by the Knights of Seiros’ resurgence.”
“There are two possible routes through to the Empire’s capital, Enbarr.” Ferdinand says. “The first would take us through the western half of the Kingdom. That’s the half that currently belongs to the Faerghus Dukedom. I’m afraid if we went down that route, we’d be bogged by no shortage of fighting. The second would take us over the Great Bridge of Myrddin, through the Alliance’s territory.”
“I see where you’re getting at, but I’m sure you’re aware of the Alliance’s own internal problems. That bridge is currently under control of a staunchly Pro-Imperial lord. They won’t just let you through without a fight. And it would be a big one.” Judith says
Byleth raises a letter in her hand. It looks to be the same letter that Judith had handed over in Ailell. “It seems as though Claude, for all his scheming and ingenuity, hasn’t changed much from his academy days. He’s still keeping his schemes close to his chest, even from his most trusted aides. In the letter you gave to me, he proposes that he acts as a diversion to draw away House Gloucester from the bridge. A diversion which we’ll use to cross over and defeat the Imperial Army stationed there. In doing so, the Alliance will suffer no casualties, while the Pro-Imperial faction will be cut off from the Empire. It’s a win-win.”
Judith seems taken aback. It seems Claude really did keep this idea hidden from everyone. “That kid’s a real nut. If this worked, the Pro-Imperial faction would likely collapse overnight. They’d be tripping over themselves to renew their vows to the Alliance. And with a unified Alliance, the tide of the war could very swiftly change.”
“Blair, I’d like to ask you what you think of this plan.” Byleth turns towards you. “You’ve been fighting in this war a lot longer than I have. Do you believe this to be tactically sound?”
You could hardly believe your ears. The Professor actually cared what you thought?! That feeling you had regarding your growth just quadrupled, along with your confusion regarding just how you got to this point. Whatever you say, you just want to make sure you don’t sound stupid.

>>5514443 >D): Write-in >>I don't have all the information that you or Claude do, so I as a lone mercenary captain can't say if it is. What I can say is what you'll need for it to be a good plan: a convincing diversion, a fast moving and powerful force to overwhelm the Imperial garrison, perfect coordination between the two halves at a distance, and an exit plan if something goes wrong. without plot armor it's a plan that sounds very silly. lots of moving parts, lots of exposure, very interdependent. if anything goes wrong then the knights are pincered and in an even more untenable position. but it is a very rewarding plan if it works. if Claude is sure that his diversion is perfect, and that the Knights can blitz the hardpoint, then it has a chance.
the most difficult part of the plan is timing the crossing with the diversion, since the diverting and attacking armies can't be near each other or else Gloucester will cotton on too quickly. if their movements can be matched at a far distance then that's the biggest hurdle cleared

to be clear I can, like, easily imagine a few ways to accomplish this with low technology with relatively low risk of interception. although telescopes are banned in fodlan, mirrors and aerial units are good alternatives. and you can combine the two. although neither mirrors nor aerial units are unique to the Alliance/Knights, and both are likely to already be semi common communications in-setting, the specific message conveyed through them (like a timing, or canceling the operation, or whatever code) can't be intercepted. and if the weather cooperates then the combination will make it so the signals are flashing on clouds not visible to the ground. and if the weather doesn't cooperate then it's just a return to status quo mirror flashes. the empire might catch the existence of mirror signals, if they're lucky, but they won't be able to know what they mean.

>>5514443 Claude had a habit of making his plans seem much simpler than they really were. In truth, there was a lot you could see going wrong here. Both armies would need to have perfect timing with each other in how they would approach the bridge. Additionally, it wasn’t even a guarantee that Count Gloucester would fall for the bait. Still, if it was Claude’s plan, so there must be something he was keeping up his sleeve. And with the addition of the Professor, surely something as far-fetched as this diversion could have the potential to work?
>“In my experience, I’ve learned not to underestimate Claude. He wouldn’t be suggesting this if he wasn’t confident it could work. There are…a few things that might lend to complications, but it seems worth a shot given the alternatives.” Seteth nods. “We’re all agreed then. If we take the Great Bridge of Myrddin, and House Gloucester bows down to House Riegan... then the route from the monastery to the Empire will be much safer for our forces. Can we count on your continued support for this endeavor, Lady Judith?”
“Unfortunately, our orders were simply to help transport the supplies from Ailell to the monastery.” Judith says. “Those in the Pro-Imperial faction have no idea that we’re here. Were they to learn we were fighting alongside the Knights of Seiros, it could complicate things unnecessarily before the attack on the bridge. Of course, if all goes well with the operation, I’m sure we’ll be fighting alongside each other soon enough.”
“Very well. Then, following the timetable set by Claude in his letter, we’ll move out for the Great Bridge at the end of this month.” Seteth says. “The two of you are, of course, welcome to stay at Garreg Mach for as long as needed. Though, I imagine Claude will be calling you back soon to help with his end.”
“Yes, I believe we should be receiving a message stating just that soon. Thank you for the hospitality. I pray the next time that we meet, it will be on the Empire’s side of the Great Bridge.”
With the war council over, you return to the barracks where the rest of the Blackwings are stationed. There appears to be some sort of commotion waiting for you when you arrive. It looks as though the Blackwings that you had sent away on a separate mission prior to the battle at Ailell have returned.
“Oy, Blair!” Theo calls out upon spotting you. In his hand looks to be a flagon of ale, retrieved form who knows where. “We’re back! The mission was a piece of cake.”

We apprehended the girl just as she was about to cross into Empire territory and brought her back to her bastard of a noble father.” He grimaces. “I get that gold is gold, but that was kind of a rotten job, to be honest. Didn’t make me feel as good as cutting down some Dukedom soldiers would have. And I’m not the only one that feels that way. Seems Sebastian and that new friend of yours are in the middle of a very spirited conversation.”
Sebastian! He was stationed at Arianrhod, the capital of Rowe, right before they had turned away from the Kingdom. He’d have likely known Gwendal and held a grudge against him and the rest of the soldiers from Rowe who had defected to the Dukedom. Theo points you to a circle of mercenaries gathered. You can see Sebastian’s hulking form standing in the middle, staring down at someone. As you move in to get a closer look, you realize that it’s Ashe.
“I said draw your weapon.” Sebastian bellows, gazing right through Ashe. “I challenge you to a duel. To avenge the comrades of mine that you slew when your cowardly count sold out my homeland.”
>“W-what?” “I’ve never seen him like this before.” Theo says. “Seems like he’s really pissed. Doesn’t look good for that boy, I’ll say.”

>“What is the meaning of this?!” You yell in your most authoritative voice. The crowd, which had been too busy paying attention to the infantry captain’s challenge to notice you, now turn their heads in your direction. The cheering and egging on has subsided, replaced by the type of shame a child might feel when caught doing something wrong by his mother. You stand between the two men, who make no move to go at each other. Despite Sebastian being well over six feet and clad in plate armor, you somehow manage to be the most intimidating person there. “Commander.” Sebastian says. He’s acknowledged your presence, but keeps his icy gaze locked on Ashe. “I beg your pardon. I was unaware that this man before me had joined the company. Though he may be seeking to leave his past behind, I remember him well. He planted arrows through several of my subordinates back in Arianrhod. Those were good men. Men who’d chosen to stay loyal to their country, unlike this swine. Honor dictates that I must see him punished.”
>“Ashe? Is this true?” Ashe seemingly struggles to meet your gaze, but he does. “I’m sorry, Blair. I just joined up with you and I’m already causing problems. It’s true. I won’t make any excuses for what I did. When I joined Count Rowe and became his knight, I had no idea that he’d be planning to betray the Kingdom. I followed his orders to drive the loyalists out of Arianrhod. And I killed soldiers who didn’t deserve it. It’s an action I regret, with all my heart. There’s nothing I can say that will excuse that, but please, allow me to at least do some good with my bow for a change! That’s all I’ve wanted these last five years. To fight for something meaningful.”
“You have the audacity to call yourself a knight, you traitor?!” Sebastian spits. You knew that he could have a temper, but you’d never seen him this mad before. “Commander, please! You deprived me of a chance to fight the Dukedom and slay that whoreson Gwendal, all so that you could send me on some disgraceful job. Do not deprive me of this as well!”
By now, the crowd was beginning to grow. From behind Sebastian, you could see that Theo had tossed his flagon of ale away and was standing close by to subdue Sebastian if needed. He wasn’t the only one. Boleslav and Roxanne were nearby as well, looking as if they might spring into action at any point.
This wasn’t the first-time intercompany disputes had led to a duel. Most ended with a short brawl and the issue laid to rest. You had a hard time picturing that would be the case here.

>>5517883 This isn’t how you imagined Ashe joining the Blackwings would play out. You suppose some of the blame ultimately lies with you. Sending Sebastian to complete that dishonorable job was a bad decision in its own right. But you could have never imagined that while he was gone, you’d have fought against the Faerghus Dukedom. Perhaps had he had the opportunity to fight against Gwendal and his men, he would have gotten this need for vengeance out of his system. But as it stands now, he must feel cheated, and Ashe is now forced to deal with the full brunt of his anger.
>“…Very well. I’ll allow you your duel. On the condition that it’s fought with blunted weapons. There is to be NO killing. And after this is over, I don’t want to hear of it again. Regardless of your past, you’re Blackwings now. Comrades-in Arms. There is to be no continued feuding. Am I understood!?” “Understood, Commander.” Sebastian says.
“Ashe, do you agree to these terms?” You feel terrible for him. He had no idea what he was walking into. You couldn’t come to his aid though. Doing so would make the others believe he was receiving preferential treatment. He’d never fit into the group if that were the case. Unfortunately, this was just the reality of mercenary life.
“…I understand. I accept your challenge, Sir Sebastian.” Ashe says.
“Very well. Our duel will take place on the old student training grounds of the monastery. Tomorrow, at sunrise. Prepare yourself accordingly.” Sebastian turns his back on Ashe, and the crowd parts to let him through.
The commotion surrounding the brawl subsides, replaced with sellswords seeking to place wagers on who they believe will come out victorious. You note rather grimly that very few of them believe Ashe will win. You turn to speak with him, but he stops you before you can start.
“It’s okay, Blair. Honest.” Ashe says, with a sad smile. “The truth is, he’s right. I shouldn’t be allowed to run from my past so easily. Regardless of what my reasons were, I betrayed Prince Dimitri. If Sebastian wishes to duel me, then I’ll grant his request. I’ll try my hardest to win…but if I lose, I’ll take my beating like a man. No more running away. After tomorrow, my bow has a new purpose. Destroying evil and ending this war. This will be the start of a new life for me. One that I want to look back on with pride.”

>>5519123 Just like that, you’re left standing alone while Ashe goes off to train Goddess knows where. Though you didn’t want to admit it, you really didn’t think Ashe had any shot at all. While he was likely quicker than Sebastian, he’d be at a huge disadvantage in terms of bulk, weight, and weapon. Dread creeps up your spine as you think about him getting grievously hurt. You were worried about Sebastian as well. He was clearly feeling hurt and lashing out. Something that you thought was an innocuous decision is now causing you to suffer real consequences. You decide to go see Milly. At the very least, maybe the ill-gotten funds that started this whole mess will make you feel better.
You find Milly lounging on a lavish-looking chair in front of her caravan, feet up on a portable table. Occasionally, a Blackwing will come up to her and receive a small pouch of gold from a nearby chest. It was pay day again. You figure some of that gold will likely be wagered on the duel between Ashe and Sebastian tomorrow. Curiously, an ebon pegasus is lying on the ground next to her. Milly is scratching the back of the creature’s ear with one hand, while offering another mercenary their pouch with the other. Upon spotting you, she offers a friendly wave.
“Hey Blair! Did you see Theo’s back? He brought a lot of gold!” Milly says. She seems completely oblivious to the commotion that just occurred. She removes her hand from the pegasus to haul up, with some difficulty, a much larger bag than the other mercenaries received. “3700… to be exact.” She says, out of breath. “Don’t… spend it all…in one place…”
>You receive 3700 gold! (Gold: 6850) >“Who’s pegasus is this?” You ask, staring at the prone creature before you. Upon closer inspection, you realize it’s wearing a collar, with a piece of paper tucked in. “Huh? It’s Beathan, isn’t it?”
>“What? No, it isn’t.” “It’s black.” Milly says, staring at the pegasus.
>“Yes…but it looks nothing like Beathan. Look, his ears are pointed down. Beathan’s point up. And their eyes are completely different. Can’t you tell?” “O-oh. I guess not…Well then who’s this?”
>“He has a note tucked into his collar. Didn’t you get curious and read it?” “Well, I figured it was for you. I didn’t want to be nosy…”
You approach the pegasus, who is now staring intently at you with its dark, beady eyes, and gently remove the note attached to his collar.

>>5519125 “Come to Ordelia as soon as possible. City in chaos. Hostiles everywhere. Identity of target still unknown. Don’t drink the water. Hurry. – A” The note reads.
>“When did this Pegasus get here?” You ask Milly. “This morning, right after you left for your meeting. What’s the note say?”
>You sigh. “Nothing good.” You thought this pegasus seemed familiar. It’s Stormy. Anemone’s winged steed. She was supposed to send her pegasus to come find you when she discovered the identity of Diogenes, the Agarthan Sage currently holed up in Ordelia. However, it appears something else has caused her to move her hand early. What’s all this about chaos and water? Looking at the note closer, it looks as though it was hastily written. She sounds in trouble. Wonderful. As if this day couldn’t get any worse. “Show this note to Corrine when you see her. Tell her to have the men ready to march by tomorrow. We’ll leave after this accursed duel is settled.” All good things must come to an end, and that goes for your time back at Garreg Mach as well. You don’t know when the next time you’ll come return is. You may not return at all.

So I set out to draw a post timeskip Corrine as a proper Fire Emblem style portrait, but didn't go further than this VERY rough sketch of a hairstyle/outfit before getting sidetracked into redrawing that one frame from american psycho but with Corrine instead(that one is actually near finished).>Question. Do you guys think I should give her blackwings color scheme(Black/white/gold) or opt for something else. Also, time for schizo ramblings about the hairstyle. Her Academy portrait has a neat and even intricate hairstyle(what's with the tiny braids), but that kind of makes sense, she was representing a noble house and empire as a whole, she still needed to appear somewhat "proper", even while being in a hubert's killsquad. But after leaving it all behind, I *think* she would care less about proper appearance, so I took those loose hairs from academy portrait and developed this hint into full-on wild hair. She kind of went through a reverse of Bernie's hairstyle development, if you think about it. Bernie went from messy to proper instead. blog over

>>5519722 >>5519764 Love it! My own interpretation of her isn't too far off from yours I think. While still physically attractive, she'd certainly care less about maintaining a noble's decorum. Her hair would certainly no longer be tied up, and the loose strands are a nice touch.
As for colors, I don't really see there being official Blackwing colors that everyone wears. Sure, Blair has the Black and Silver but she's the commander. As sellswords, I see them coming from every walk of life and a lot of times that includes coming with their own equipment. You can sort of see this from everyone's portraits, though it's also because recoloring them all to fit into black armor would be too much work and not as aesthetically pleasing I think. As for what Corrine herself would wear, I'm not sure. Given her penchant for being covered in blood and guts though, I'd imagine it would be some sort of dark black or red. The fangs are also a nice touch.
Excellent work on this! You said it's a rough sketch, which makes me really excited to see what the finished portrait would look like!

>>5520581 >“Dorothea! This is Mina. She’s a Dancer. Like you! I was wondering if you could maybe show her a thing or two? She’s got some interesting skills but hasn’t learned the Refresh Dance yet. Do you think you can teach it to her?” “Wow, another dancer! It’s rare for me to meet another dancer. Where did you learn your craft?”
“A lady at a brothel in Gautier taught me.” Mina shrugs.
“O-oh. I see…well, how about you show me what you can do?”
Mina proceeds to dance in the same vein as when she increased your strength during the fight with Rodolfo and his mercs. Thrusting her hips out, she shakes her body left and right while doing that same weird up down motion with her arms. And as ridiculous as the dance looks, you can’t help but admit that it is still effective. You certainly feel a lot stronger. Strong enough to lift a boulder and hide under it to save you from the sheer embarrassment of the scene.
“Well! What did you think?” Mina asks a stunned Dorothea.
“Well…it was…definitely a sight to behold! Here, let me show you mine.”
Dorothea, in comparison, is the definition of grace. The way that she waltzes across the terrace is as if she was effortlessly gliding. Watching her move fills you with a burst of energy. It’s a different kind than the one you received from Mina. Dorothea’s makes you feel as though you could run to the end of the world and back without ever tiring.
“That was like…totally awesome! You’ve gotta teach me how to do that Dorothea! Please!” Mina desperately pleads with her.
“Hey, hey! Settle down, kid. I love the enthusiasm. Here, take my hand. Let’s do this.”
You watch Dorothea and Mina dance for what seems like several hours. Despite Dorothea’s skill and patience, it’s clear to see that Mina is nowhere near picking up what she’s trying to teach. And yet, you can tell that Mina is earnestly trying, and even beginning to show some signs of improvement. Perhaps there was some hope for her after all. The two go at it, only stopping when Mina, drenched in sweat, can hardly move anymore.
“I think that’s enough for today.” Dorothea says.
“N-no! I can keep at it! I won’t stop until I learn how to do the Refresh Dance!” Mina protests.
“Hey, Enbarr wasn’t built in a day. You’ve got the fundamentals down good. If you keep up the practice, you’ll pick it up in no time.”
“But-!”
“No buts! Here, I want you to have this.” Dorothea removes a shawl she’d had around her neck, and hands it to Mina. “Sorry if it’s a bit sweaty… I got this shawl from an old mentor of mine as a gift, back when I first became a Dancer. It looks pretty ordinary, but it’s actually imbued with magic that responds only to people that have our skill. Take it. It’s yours.”
“Are you sure? I can’t take something this valuable to you.”

“Dorothea…thank you.” Mina says. She stares down at the shawl, as though it were the greatest treasure in all of Fodlan. She looks to be on the verge of tears.
>Manuela’s Shawl obtained! (+25 SPD/LCK, +15 HP. Dancer’s Only) The two bid each other farewell, Mina still clutching the shawl tightly as she returns to the barracks. You’re now left alone with your old roommate.
>“Dorothea. Thank you. You didn’t need to go out of your way like that.” “It’s fine! She’s a sweet kid, and it seems like she’s had it pretty rough. I know what that’s like. She’s fortunate to have someone like you looking out for her.”
>“…I came to tell you that I’m leaving. We…have another mission and are heading back to Leicester tomorrow. I wanted to say goodbye.” Dorothea sighs. “I figured as much. I’d have loved for you to come with the Professor and us. But…you’ve got your own life to live. And your own things that you need to do. I won’t press you for the details. I know that if it’s what you’ve set your mind to, it’s the right thing. Just promise me you’ll stay alive. I don’t want to lose any more people that I care about to this senseless war. Please, Blair.”
>“I promise.” The first time you left Dorothea without saying anything, you felt terrible about it for years. But somehow, saying goodbye now hurts just as bad. “Here, I have something I’ve been meaning to give you. I guess I’m just full of generosity today.” She reaches into her pocket and retrieves a small piece of metal. Looking at it closely, it appears to be a key, albeit one that is somewhat scorched and blackened. “Do you know what this is?”
>“Is that…my key? The one to our old dorm room? Where did you find that?!” “It was in the burned-out ruins of our old room. When I went to go check it out, I saw it glistening in the corner of my eye. Somehow it didn’t melt in the blaze. I took that as a sign that maybe you were okay. I’ve been holding onto it ever since. Obviously, it won’t be opening anything anymore, but I still have my old key too. Maybe this way, no matter where we go, we’ll still have some sort of connection.”

Happy that you met them in the first place, and happy that they’re rooting for you to succeed. You have hope that one day, all this fighting will be over. And when that day comes, you’re heartened to know that you’ll have people to come back to. In this moment, that knowledge makes it easier to deal with all the conflict and heartache that is sure to come as you continue down this path. You and Dorothea embrace one last time. You swore that you’d come back alive, and you intend to honor that promise. You depart with a newfound vigor.
>+5 HP Temporarily Next Battle The next day finds you waking earlier than usual. It’s a busy day for the Blackwings. Not only are they to set out on a new march, but for the first time in months, a duel is to take place. Equipping your gear and making sure all your belongings are in order, you and the others head over to the monastery training grounds before the sun has even risen. The place hasn’t changed much from when you went to school here, though obviously there’s now a distinct lack of students present. The mercenaries continue to wager on who will come out victorious.
“Give me 400 gold on Sebastian!” Nero yells. “And I’ll bet an extra 100 that the young lad suffers an “accidental” end as well.”
“I think you’ll be hard-pressed to find someone to take you up on that.” Damian adds, stifling a yawn. “It seems most people here have made up their mind on who’s going to win.”
“Nonsense!” Roxanne says. “I like a good underdog story. Don’t forget that boy studied under the Ashen Demon. Just like our lovely Commander. He may have a few tricks up his sleeve.”
“Let’s hope one of them is to grow a few feet taller.” Caleb says. “Otherwise, I don’t sense this being much of a fight.”
The Blackwings, and even a few soldiers belonging to the Knights of Seiros and the Church, are currently crowding around the arena. Ashe and Sebastian are already occupying the inside of the ring, which you note is not very spacious. If Ashe plans on fighting with a bow, he’ll find himself with very little room to run away. Sebastian is clad in his usual heavy armor, cutting an imposing figure. As if his stature and weight were not enough, he wields a brutal looking wooden axe. Even with its blunted edge, one hit from that thing looks as though it could break all the bones in a man’s body. Ashe in comparison, is wearing the same leather armor you’d seen him in back in Ailell; with his bow slung on his back. Theo stands in-between the two fighters, intending to serve as the match’s judge, and hopefully ensure no one is accidentally killed. Upon arriving at the grounds, Nero calls out to you.
“Oy! The Commander is here! Now we can get this thing started!”

>>5523065 >“Yes please. The sooner the better.” You take a seat in the stands next to Yara, who looks as uninterested in the entire bout as you do. “You can see the future, can’t you?” You ask the shaman. “Which one of them wins?” Yara takes a drag of her trusty pipe, blowing a puff of smoke out your way as she turns to face you with that same disinterested glance. “My gift of foresight is a gift from the spirits of Duscar themselves. I have no intention of wasting it on this meaningless contest.”
>“…Good to know.” “Ladies and gentlemen! Mercenaries and knights!” Theo shouts from the inside of the ring. Despite the early hour, he’s greeted by loud hurrahs and cheers from those present. “The Killer Trio, in conjunction with the Blackwing Mercenary Company, are proud to present for your viewing pleasure, a duel for the ages!”
>“Ever the showman, that one.” You mutter from your seat, enjoying the spectacle far less than those around you. “In the corner on my right! Standing over six feet tall and weighing a combined 500 pounds with his armor. They say there isn’t an attack in Fodlan that he can’t shrug off! You know him well as my fellow captain of the infantry! Give it up for the big man himself, Sebastian!”
If Sebastian is enjoying the fanfare from the crowd, he does not show it. His axe-head is buried into the ground, both hands on the hilt, as he does nothing but continue to stare right through to Ashe.
“And in the next corner! Weighing in at under 90 pounds soaking wet. Don’t let that gray hair fool you folks. This cat is fast and young! Give it up for the newest member of our happy bunch. Ashe!”
While Ashe receives far less cheers than Sebastian did, it sounds like he still has some fans in the crowd willing to root for him. You suppose there’s no better way to fit into a group of hostile and strange mercenaries than facing insurmountable odds.
“Here are the rules.” Theo yells. “The two of you fight until either one can no longer stand, or one of you surrenders. This is a fight with blunted weapons. Killing your opponent is strictly forbidden. No eye-pokes or hits below the groin. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes.” Both men say, resolute.

>>5523068 As you study Ashe closely, you notice that he intends to fight not with his bow, but rather with two blunted daggers that he’s produced from seemingly nowhere.
“That kid is going to fight Sebastian with those little toys?” Nero asks, incredulously. “He’s lost his damn mind!”
“Fighters! On my signal! Get ready! And…begin!” Theo yells, before backstepping from out of the middle of the ring.
The second the battle begins, Ashe surprises everyone by launching himself forward at Sebastian, daggers outstretched. Sebastian takes a wide swing with his axe, intending to crumple the much smaller fighter with one decisive blow. Ashe, meanwhile, manages to leap at just the right moment, and with all the grace of a cat, land on hilt of the large axe. Using the weapon as a springboard, he leaps onto Sebastian’s shoulders, and, finding a gap within the man’s armor, plunges his dagger down.
You find yourself jumping from your seat and standing on your feet as Sebastian reels from Ashe’s attack. The giant roars loudly as he attempts to buck Ashe off him, who is continuing to stab downward into the gap in his armor. Finally, after suffering enough damage, the general manages to grab Ashe with a free hand and throw him off his shoulders, onto the ground a few feet away. Ashe bares his daggers out, and lays low, waiting for another opportunity to pounce.
“Hah! I knew that kid had some bite!” Roxanne laughs. “Ol’ Sebby doesn’t look too sure of himself now!”
“What’s this?” Nero says, turning towards you. “It looks like our stuffy Commander is starting to enjoy the fight. What say you? Care to join in on the wager?”

Both men appear stalled as they return to their neutral battle positions. Sebastian, now aware of Ashe’s dexterity and speed, seems to not want to give the boy another opportunity to find an opening. Ashe, conversely, while having struck the first blow, has gotten a taste of the man’s strength and knows what a well-placed hit from that axe will do to him. This stalemate continues for some time, until Sebastian begins moving forward slowly, as if to corner Ashe at the edge of the ring. Finally, he thrusts forward with the head of his axe. Ashe attempts the same maneuver as before, jumping forward and looking to land on the shaft. He succeeds, only to be tossed overhead by Sebastian, who anticipated the move.
Ashe lands hard on his back as Sebastian seeks to capitalize on the attack. He rolls out of the way at the last possible second as the axe comes down hard, letting loose a huge cloud of dust.
“Goodness!” Roxanne comments. “That may not kill the boy, but it may just break every bone in his body.”
Sebastian continues swinging his axe left and right, and it’s all Ashe can do to duck and weave out of the way. It’s abundantly obvious that Ashe is faster, but whether he has enough stamina to outlast the armored knight is an entirely different story. As Sebastian swings his axe towards Ashe’s right side, he manages to nimbly avoid the blow and swing his dagger down onto Sebastian’s hand. He must have struck another weak point because the man drops his axe to the ground.
“He’s unarmed!” Caleb comments, standing up from his seat.
Ashe begins launching his own flurry of blows, seeking out each one of the gaps in Sebastian’s armor. The momentum of the battle has seemingly turned over to the sniper’s favor as it is now Sebastian who is on the ropes. And that isn’t the only thing that’s changed. The crowd seems to be going wild for Ashe now that he’s taken the lead. It’s as Roxanne said, everyone loves a good underdog story. Sebastian’s arms are up as if to block the dagger strikes, while Ashe continues to dance around and slowly pick him apart. You note that Ashe is pushing Sebastian further and further towards the ring’s edge. It looks like he's looking to win by pushing the armored knight over the line and forcing him out of bounds.

A puff of smoke coming from Yara reminds you that she’s still there. “I wouldn’t be so sure of that. One does not require the gift of foresight to see where this is going.”
As Sebastian is at the very edge of the ring, Ashe lunges forward to push the knight out of bounds. Before he can connect though, his arm is grabbed by Sebastian, whose iron-like grip refuses to let go. Ashe tries to pull away but is unable to, and as a result is a sitting duck as Sebastian brings his head down and slams it into Ashe’s own. First one time, then a second. Sebastian looks to be charging up for a third strike, before Theo breaks the two up.
“That’s enough! The boy is out cold! The winner of this duel is Sebastian!” Theo declares, as Sebastian lets the sniper crash onto the floor, unconscious.
“Hah! I knew it!” Nero shouts in joy as the rest of the crowd cheers and begins exchanging gold amongst each other.
>“Elizabeth. Please see Ashe to the infirmary and make sure that he’s okay. If he’s not fit to march, he can ride along in the caravan.” You say to the cleric. She’d been present the entire time, albeit with her hands covering her eyes. You make your way down the stands and towards Sebastian, who is just now stepping out of the ring without so much as a glance back at Ashe’s prone form. >“Can I trust you to put this behind you now?” You ask him. “He deserves far worse.” Sebastian mutters. “But he won’t receive it from me. You have my word.” With that, he walks off. You’re unsure if he’ll ever really forgive you for sending him off before the last mission, but at the very least, you can count on him to continue fighting with the company.
“Alright you louts! You had your show!” Corrine yells. “Get ready to move out, we’re leaving soon!”

>>5523954 Thread Epilogue:
Anemone was running through one of Ordelia’s wretched alleys as fast as her legs could take her. No, that’s right, she wasn’t Anemone right now. She was “Alena”. An alchemist from the countryside who had come to the city seeking supplies for her craft. At least that was the cover story she had used to enter the city before everything had gone to hell. It was easy to forget her alias, given the present circumstances. Right now, anyone she ran into was more likely to shove a dagger in her face rather than ask for her identity. As if right on cue, two figures appeared at the other end of the alley to block her way. One was a grizzled man, his beard and apron covered in dirt and grime. The other was a gaunt-looking girl with splashes of blood covering her smock. Likely a serving wench from a nearby tavern.
“Wonderful.” Alena mutters, not letting the obstructing bodies slow her charge.
The man lets out an inhuman roar as he charges forward, a small javelin outstretched to impale Alena. Dodging the clumsy thrust, Alena maneuvers behind the man’s back, grabs his head, and slams it into the nearby wall. She’s afforded no time to see if the man is dead or not, as his female companion is now haphazardly swinging a butcher’s cleaver at her. Alena grabs the girl’s wrist an inch away from her face, and brutally twists it. The weapon falls out of the girl’s hand as her bone breaks, but she hardly registers the injury as she tries to scratch out Alena’s eyes with her free hand. She soon follows the male into unconsciousness as Alena punches her in the back of the head. With the threat neutralized, she’s able to exit the alley, only to duck back in and hide upon spotting a mob of peasants parading through,
“Kill them all!”
“Come on out, Count! Where are you?!”
“Get ready to die!”
What a wretched turn of events this has been, Alena thought to herself. Things had been looking promising at first. She’d been able to confirm that her comrade Eulalia was alive and being held captive inside Ordelia Castle. She’d formulated a plan to enter the castle and find her, along with Diogenes, one of the newer Seven Sages of Agartha. She’d even found a secret entrance that would lead her inside.
And then the Feast of Saint Indech happened.
Alena hardly knew what that meant. It wasn’t as if Arcadia had any festivals of their own surrounded by Demonic Beasts in the middle of Edmund Woods. Evidently though, here in Ordelia, it had long been a day where the nobles of the city freely offered food and drink to the city’s people in celebration of Indech, one of the Four Saints who’d helped Seiros vanquish the King of Liberation over 1000 years ago. And now, what was meant to be a joyous day for the typically poor and destitute inhabitants of the city was now one that saw them turning against their neighbors with steel in hand.
TreeHouses QM
>>5525480 Alena hadn’t seen it herself, but Blair had told her of a similar event that had happened in a place called Remire. An entire village had turned mad and bloodthirsty when the Agarthans managed to poison their water supply. According to Blair, over 100 villagers were either killed by their neighbors, or forced to be put down by the Knights of Seiros. Still, that was a tiny village. Ordelia was a city of thousands. There was no telling how many people would be dead when this was over.
With the mob having moved on, Alena swiftly escapes from the alley and heads to her destination: an abandoned warehouse at the very edge of one of the city’s numerous slums. That was where her pegasus, Stormy, was waiting for her. The people of this city were a superstitious lot, and an ebon pegasus would attract too much unwanted attention at the stables. So, she kept him alone in the warehouse while she went about her own business. And that wasn’t the only thing she’d kept there. As she neared her destination, she turned a corner to find the front of the warehouse blocked by another mob. They were surrounding something and tearing it apart both with improvised weaponry and their bare hands. Alena’s heart skips a beat, believing that something to be Stormy. As she draws closer, one of the peasants spots her and shrieks, turning the mob’s attention towards her and breaking up the circle they had formed.
Alena feels a sense of relief at not finding her pegasus torn apart by the angry mob. However, that relief quickly vanishes when she instead finds the remains of a small family within the circle. Two parents, and two small children. The bodies have been mutilated so badly, it’s impossible to tell any further details. Alena didn’t pray to any gods. The way she saw it, the Agarthan gods as well as Sothis, likely saw her as an abomination. And yet, in this moment, she wished she’d had someone to hear her. The large crowd roared and charged her, sensing a new victim to be had. Even unarmed though, they were only rushing to their doom.
“Thoron!” With an outstretched hand and a bright flash, a beam of pure lightning incinerated the crowd before her. The way they were bunched together, all it took was one spell to kill every last man, woman and child that had been rushing her way. She felt no qualms about killing them. While unfamiliar with whatever magic the Agarthans had used to concoct this madness, she knew well enough they were beyond saving. And even if there could be, could they really live with what they’d done? A merciful death was the most Alena was able to offer them.

>>5525482 The crowd had been vanquished, but Alena could not discount the possibility that her spell would attract unwanted attention. She quickly made her way into the warehouse and shut the door behind her. Sure enough, Stormy was still there. He was sitting in front of several stacks of crates, as if nothing were happening. Above him was a large hole in the ceiling, shining sunlight inside the dark, damp room and offering visibility.
“Good boy. You’re a very good boy.” Alena brushes her mount’s mane. She reaches inside the satchel attached to him to retrieve a piece of paper, as well as an ink and quill.
There was so much she wanted to say, but she didn’t know where to start. Writing too much information within the note could lead to undue risk if it were intercepted. And it wasn’t as if she had all the details about what was going on to begin with. None of this made any sense. Why would the Agarthans move to destroy the city, especially when it was still Pro-Imperial? And why were those who were turned looking to kill Count Ordelia? Whatever the case was, she needed Blair here. Subterfuge was no longer an option. They’d break down the doors of Castle Ordelia, rescue Eulalia, and kill Diogenes. It was all they could do.
“Come to Ordelia as soon as possible. City in chaos. Hostiles everywhere. Identity of target still unknown. Don’t drink the water. Hurry. – A” Alena reads aloud as she writes. Attaching a collar to Stormy’s neck, she clips the note inside to hold it firmly when she’s suddenly startled by the warehouse door jolting open. Damn it, more of th-?
Alena turns around expecting to find more crazed peasants, only to be greeted by a squad of soldiers. Based on their yellow armor and insignia, they appear to be the Ordelian Guard. Protectors of the city. The man at the front is a grizzled knight. He’s older than the rest, and if the scars and notches on his armor are any indication, a veteran of many battles. These men don’t look as though they’ve gone mad. Before she can come up with something to say though, the lead knight speaks first.
“Well, isn’t this a surprise?” The knight says. There’s a hint of amusement in his voice that puts Alena on edge. “Here I come looking for that rat Count Ordelia, only to find an entirely different rat instead! Now then, what’s another vile half-breed like you doing in our fine city?”
“Thoron!”
The warehouse erupts in an explosion of smoke, blood and debris as Alena launches her spell at the newcomers. Turning her back towards them, she grabs onto Stormy’s head, and whispers into his ear. “Find Blair.”

>>5525486 The pegasus, neighing loudly, leaps to its feet. The soldiers, either all dead or incapacitated from Alena’s attack, are unable to respond as Stormy flies through the hole in the ceiling. Alena watches him soar higher and higher, before he finally flies off in some direction, racing towards wherever in the world Blair was.
Back inside the warehouse, those soldiers who weren’t dead from the Thoron spell were writhing on the ground in agony. As the dust cleared, only one was still standing. The same grizzled knight from before.
“Shouldn’t you have left with that pegasus of yours?” He asks, unfazed.
Alena doesn’t respond. Instead, she kicks over the empty creates that Stormy had been sitting in front of, revealing the weapon that they had been hiding.
“I’m impressed.” The knight says. He draws closer to Alena as he unslings an axe and shield. “You don’t hesitate to kill anyone who stands in your way. And you pack quite the punch too. You’re much different than the other half-breed we captured. Why if I didn’t know any better, I’d think you’re just like us.”
Alena reaches down to grab the Crescent Scythe that had been hidden underneath the crates. Weapon in her hands, she turns around to face her foe. “Don’t pretend we’re the same.”

Thread Archived:
https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Three+Houses That wraps it up for this one. #14 should be up sometime by the middle of next week or so.
Not much to say about this thread. If you didn't find Ashe by the 5 turn limit I'd put in Byleth would have killed him. In hindsight it was pretty obvious where I'd had him hiding I suppose lol.
The Sebastian thing kind of makes me laugh a bit. On hand, you'd have to meta-game to know that the next chapter was going to be fighting against the Dukedom soldiers and he'd likely want to be apart of that. On the other, you probably didn't want to send an "honorable" knight to go kidnap a noblewoman before she ran off with her lover. I was surprised when anons voted to send Sebastian as he'd been pretty prevalent in battle up to that point. Unfortunately it was the perfect storm as far as pissing him. If you'd denied the duel, he'd probably have just up and left.
Also this might be the first thread where Blair didn't level-up.
See you next time!

>I was surprised when anons voted to send Sebastian as he'd been pretty prevalent in battle up to that point. To be honest... I figured the whole schtick about how dangerous the lava would be would come into play more, making ground engagements way more risky. I just thought that was part of the reason why anons wanted to send away the slow armor knight away, but in hindsight, if a Blackwing Captain could be defeated by slow-moving lava, then they weren't really cut out for the job. Of course, this doesn't mean much when we can just bring an aerial force to circumvent the lava entirely, but still.
But yes, in hindsight, we should be more careful with who is going on which extra job in the future.
>Also this might be the first thread where Blair didn't level-up. Diplomacy is one hell of a drug.
