>>>/x/ wanted an alternative to SCP, but /x/ being /x/, actual ideas were quickly overrun with general edginess, arguments, and other symptoms of Schizophrenia, so this board is it's new home.
Some of the ideas we had proposed. (This is not all, please copy more from the original thread if you find them interesting.)
>Expeditions into alternate dimensions during the 70s. Humans can interact with extradimensional artifacts, albeit they are unstable and dangerous so few will. Cold War provides a source of human conflict, but the threat of extradimensional horrors looms.
>A precursor race of aliens laid their eggs on earth, aiding in human evolution. Now mother is returning.
>A vatican database of demons operating currently on earth.
>Stories of people on a flat earth exploring "beyond the ice wall." The further you go, the stranger things get. Portals through time, mythical or impossible animals, etc.
A few more general setting suggestions that ensure quality:
>Avoid modern-day/sci-fi technology to prevent hand-waving.
>Ensure magic / alien / occult powers are limited.
>Provide readily available excuses for missing information and obfuscation of story elements for the sake of mystery.
The thread has an ongoing argument as to how a collaborative project should handle real world conspiracy theories, religion, and political conflicts. Some say they should be embraced and even focused on, some say they should be banned outright. I think we should discuss further, though personally I think the best way to handle it is to allow it but expect writers to tread lightly around it. Treat it like any aspect of a setting rather than a declaration of your own beliefs.
Rules propsed for quality control:
> No pop culture references, memes, or copy cat work
> no smut, goreporn, or otherwise shock value centered work.
> All stories must have decent English with full grammar and punctuation
> All stories must be between 300 & 1000 words and present at least one fully formed idea.
>Implement a system distinguishing established authors from new authors, giving established authors greator authority.
Note, some of the rules have been modified from others suggestions in the original thread. They are not final.
Goal of this thread: Decide on a main idea to center the project around.
