Your old car makes its way down the familiar forest roads you’ve found yourself on as you sit back in a reclined seat, not having seen another car for at least the last ten miles. Makes sense your parents have always lived out in the boonies and it always seems that more and more people are moving out of these isolated suburbs closer to the city a few hours away, yourself included. Sure the forest that lies on both sides of the road has plenty of memories but not really that much to do once you grew up from your childhood fantasies of being an adventurer out in uncharted territory.
But it's the end of summer and going back to see your parents every once and awhile is always nice.
Your car hits a pothole that sends your phone in the passenger's seat flying into the floor, separating its connection to the console by an aux cord. The burst of static from your radio at the disconnect is more uncomfortable than actually hitting the hole.
Looking around you and seeing no cars you slow down a bit to pick up your phone and reinsert the cord into it. As you do so its screen blares to life showing your lock screen, a text from mom asking when you’ll be there, the weebshit song you added to your playlist, and the time.
>11:56 PM.
About two hours after you told your folks you’ll be home but that was before know there'd be so much traffic today. You curse a little at the injustice of it all but put your phone back and continue on your drive.
Good thing you slowed down too as some dark silhouette darts across the road when you start to drive a bit faster. Last thing you want to do not is deal with right now hitting a deer and totaling your car.
>11:59 PM
Looks like fog starting to roll in, not uncommon in this area but without the high pitch squealing of some J-pop band set to upbeat music it certainly makes for an uneasy atmosphere. Scratch that, it is kinda spooky as you look around. You swear there were more houses last time you drove up here but now it seems to just be the road and forest around.
Also seems like there really needs to be more work done on this road, cracks and potholes are starting to become way more frequent. You have to dodge a big one as you crest a hill where the road splits into a 4-way intersection with a traffic light blaring red at you, even though there seems to be no one around but as a good law abiding citizen would you roll your car into a full stop at the light.
Wait a second wasn’t this a 4 way stop last time? Why would they add a light in the middle of nowhere-
