The old gods are dead after a cataclysmic event happened, their shrines and people abandoned. In the depths of a dark forest, a group of beings gather that intend to take their place. While there may not be a place for all of them in the god realm, they are forced to work together to achieve their goals, for now. You are one of these beings. How to participate: 1. Claim a name, make a trip. 2. Pick what kind of being you are from the following options. 3. Wait until the quest starts. You can talk to other players in the mean time. I doubt we'll hit that number, but I'll be accepting no more than 10 players. I'll try to update once a day but may take longer since it's a multiplayer quest and there's ungodly amounts of data to parse through. idk how long this'll last until I burn out but hope it's long enough to finish. I'll try to make it short, like 5 threads or less. Skeleton - Undead These moving bones are one of the lowest tiers of undead creatures that exist. You start off equipped with a weapon of your choice (sword by default), a shield and some rusty armour. You primarily gain power through rituals, much like the imp and the witch. Skills: Battle training - Old combat skills that passed on to you through the boundary of death. Imp - Demonic The weakest of demons, a small humanoid creature of trickery and malice, red skin and wings included in the package. You start off with some magic and a spear. You primarily gain power through rituals, much like the skeleton and the witch. Skills: Basic pyromancy - You can throw a couple fireballs in a fight and set an enemy on fire if needed. Limited flight - A useful tool for escape and quick relocation. Dire wolf - Wild The most physically powerful of the bunch, a wolf, but bigger and stronger. You start off with nothing, but your strength makes up for it. You primarily gain power through devouring your enemies. Skills: Strength and endurance - It takes much more than usual to take you down and you can snap a man's spine with your jaws no problem. Wisp - Ethereal Beings of wispy mana condensed around a small core. You start off with nothing, but your aptitude for magic is the greatest. You primarily gain power through a lengthy process of consuming mana from unconscious, freshly dead, or otherwise incapacitated people. Skills: Limited elemental magic - You are a spellcaster. You can make powerful elemental and direct arcane attacks, as well as create illusions and blink short distances. Witch - Man A man that has forsaken some of their humanity for greater power over magic and unholy knowledge. You start off with a weapon of your choice (sword by default), some clothes and survival gear. You primarily gain power and subsist through rituals, much like the skeleton and the imp. Skills: Knowledge - You are a minor spellcaster. You can place hexes and blessings. You can also create charms and other enchanted items, as well as weaponry and armour.
Pantokrator !pJnTbY47k6
Rituals through which the skeleton, imp and witch gain power consist of sacrificing living or freshly dead people in a way that allows you to amass power. Further down the line you may have the option to become the good guys(tm) and find other ways of obtaining power, but for now you're killing people, eating them, sacrificing them, pillaging their homes for loot, all to become gods in the end. Power is measured in points, to get to the next level right now you need 20 points of power. A single sacrificed/devoured/sapped individual is worth 1 point, so you've a short road ahead before evolution. Other ways of gaining power will be gradually introduced as we go. As you evolve, your form will change and your skills will deepen according to the path you picked (Skeleton, Imp, Dire Wolf, Wisp, Witch) and the aspects you claim. Teamwork is key in the beginning, but you may choose to split off from the party at any point. At the end of the day, there is place for only one Pantokrator in heavens. To determine uncertain outcomes, a simple 1d100 roll is used. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

You say we can gain power by sacrificing/killing people, but are there any special rules that apply to doing those things to each other?
Say, for example, a dire wolf wanted to eat a skeleboi for whatever reason, does that wolf gain all of the power that skeleboi had?
Just wondering about the specifics as it is inevitable we end up killing one another at certain points.

>>5548463 This is actually an advanced mechanic, but the more powerful the person you sacrifice/eat/sap, the more power points you obtain, yes. Killing regular goons and villagers will net you 1 point, your run-of-the-mill adventurer gets 2-5, etc. up to about 100 000 for sacrificing a demigod on the precipice of godhood or a creature of similar power. (yes, you'll need this much to attain godhood in the end)
Regarding killing each other, you guessed right, you get the points the player held when you slay them. There is a caveat though, if they create a phylactery or find another means of preserving their soul upon death, you only get a portion of the points that the player held and they are revived with another part of their power left. So the end may not be the end if you progress sufficiently far.

>>5548652 Doing a ritual consists of the following steps:
1. Drawing a circle. The circle acts as a channel for the power leaving the body later.
2. Placing the body/bodies you wish to absorb power from in the circle.
3. Falling into a trance-like state where you can sense the flow of energies in the world. This can involve chanting, dancing, whatever or simple meditation.
4. Mutilating or cutting the bodies to let the energies contained within flow out.
5. Making a mental effort to absorb the energies.
Later on you may become capable enough to skip the 1-4 steps. As your magical power grows, you may tap into the powers within bodies directly without the circle layer. Same for the trance, when it becomes second nature, you can sink into and pull out of it at will. Lastly, beings of far lesser power than yourself may be so overwhelmed by your power that you may absorb it from them without the need for letting their blood flow out; a mere touch may be enough to turn them into empty husks. Due to being more precisely attuned to the magical world than most of you (and being incorporeal), wisps already bypass the circle and mutilation steps, but it takes them longer and more effort to absorb energies from weakened and dead people.
Most of this applies when you reach great levels of power and interact with beings lesser than you.

It is autumn. You are gathered around a campfire. The forest is not vast, but big enough for you to hide here comfortably. There is not much of interest here. Beyond it, to the west, there is a village on the banks of a river. Scouting it previously told you it is home to about 100 souls. To the north, there is a castle standing at the foot of the mountains. It houses a garrison of unknown numbers. To the northeast, the mountains begin, little-trodden trails leading deep into them. To the east, there is an abandoned church infested with giant spiders. To the south, where sparsely forested hills begin, are ruins where restless, aggressive souls dwell.
It is time to act.

>>5550100 >Wispy Woes - Attack the village. Judging an open attack against the village while they are alone foolish, Wispy Woes instead opts to stealthily attack anyone going into the woods for mushrooms, berries, game, or logs. With the harvest in action, there's not many that spend time here...
2nd roll for stealth attacks no DC but higher is better.
>>5550742 >Rakanishu - Investigate the southern ruins, see if there are any less aggressive souls. Splitting off from everyone, Rakanishu goes south towards the ruins. With the forest left behind, he approaches the remnants of a settlement, rusted tools and broken, overgrown furniture littering the inside of half-collapsed stone structures. It is hard to evade the notice of various angry ghosts, but the imp does his best...
3rd roll for investigation DC: 60.
4th roll for stealth DC: 60.
>>5550896 >>5551540 >Leon, Tombbone and inactives (everyone else) - Attack the church. Most of the group leaves the woods and moves to attack the abandoned church infested with giant spiders. Trismegistus spends some of his mana to enchant the skeletons' and his own weaponry, making it lighter, yet hard-striking still. With neither the imp nor the wisp here to smoke the spiders out, a full-on assault is the only option...
Rolls in order:
5th roll - Leon with +20 due to battle training and +10 due to weapon enchantment
6th roll - The Living Tombbone same as Leon
7th roll - Mark Skellington same as Leon
8th roll - Mr. Skeletalz same as Leon
9th roll - Trismegistus with +10 due to weapon enchantment
10th roll - Khoulash with +20 due to strength & endurance
DC: 50 for everyone
I'm going to roll for you guys because it'll be forever before we get the rolls in if each of you does one.

>>5551851 >Drooks and Crowdude - 31 vs 30 - Success The wolf and the witch barely evade detection as a warrior decides to investigate suspicious movement in the forest. In the end, they make it back to the bonfire alive and unseen. Looking back, they estimate the number of defenders in the castle to be around 50-70.
>Wispy Woes - 11 A sudden strike of overpowering arcane arrows sends the lone villager reeling. Wispy Woes finishes them off by piercing their head with ice shards. (90/100 MP) Only one corpse, but it's a start. Does the wisp wish to consume its energies? Or bring it to the bonfire for someone else to do it?
>Rakanishu - 69 vs 60 - Investigation success >93 vs 60 - Stealth success The imp skulks through the ruins, inspecting everything, trying to piece together what happened here. Lots of metalworking equipment here, gemcutting as well. A forge town? Why would the ghosts be here if it's something so common then? Rakanishu's questions are answered when he miraculously finds a non-aggressive ghost.
"What happened here? The Cataclysm..." -- it answers with an ethereal voice. -- "It was a forge of magical artifacts, yet the smiths, however much mastery they possessed, were not free, toiling in service of higher beings with only a slim hope of distant freedom. When the Pantokrator disappeared and the mages rampaged through the land, they took the artifacts and slew the smiths, but the magical energies of this place made them bound to this plane, unable to move on... Free them, little imp. Free them from their suffering."
However, with no support on his side, it would be foolish to attack the restless souls. The imp takes a nearby stone that radiates power and escapes into the woods. He estimates there are around 30 restless spirits in these ruins. Their ethereal nature makes them tough enemies.

There's 30 of them in total, with a matriarch to back them up, so it shouldn't be too hard to deal with them.
Leon rattles his bones as half a dozen spiders attack him. Masterfully using his spear to keep his enemies at bay, the skeleton impales them one by one, standing victorious over the arachnids in the end.
In spite of making powerful swings with his zweihander, the Living Tombbone only manages to get half of the 6 spiders he's facing. Their bites shatter some of his bones, making him lose some integrity. -30 HP (70/100 HP)
Mark Skellington defends with his shield against the relentless attacks of the arachnids, some of which pass through his defence and end up cracking some bones. Still, he manages to land a few counterattacks and kill 2 of the 6 spiders he's facing. -30 HP (70/100 HP)
Mr. Skeletalz is a storm of fury, beating down spiders with the severed bone arm like a raving barbarian. At the end of it all, he triumphs over the arachnids with not a single bite on his bones.
Trismegistus, in spite of the weapon enchantments, lacks the battle experience of the skeletons and the sheer strength of the dire wolf. He only manages to kill 2 of the spiders he's facing and ends up taking some nasty hits. -30 HP (70/100 HP, 40/100 MP)
Khoulash ends up taking on the matriarch. It is an imposing creature, twice a man's height at her highest point, but the wolf is a dangerous being himself. He bites and claws at the arachnid, first snapping her legs, sending her reeling, then gouging out her eyes with his fangs, before finally crushing the chitinous head in his mighty jaws.
With only a few spiders left, victory is near...
4 skeleton rolls with +30 vs DC of 25 means automatic success
The spiders are vanquished! The church is cleared of the beasts and ready to be looted, if there is anything of interest here.
The group finds a SHRINE here. A shrine is a place of divine power. Claiming it from another dead or sufficiently distant being gives 10, like this one, or more points of power, depending on the importance and power of the shrine in question. People praying at the shring give additional power to the one who holds dominion over it. The shrine spreads influence of the holder over the surrounding lands.
Who will claim it among you?
Pantokrator !pJnTbY47k6
>>5551892 The group also finds an arcane, abandoned prison underneath a church. In its basement, among various seals and protective circles, chained with enchanted chains, a demon resides. He wakes up as the group approaches him.
"Ahh... It's been a while since I've seen anyone here. My name is Zir, I was imprisoned here long ago. Please free me. I will serve you faithfully if you bind me to one of you. I have desired escape for so long..."
Freeing the demon would probably grant you a powerful ally. Sacrificing him, on the other hand, would give 20 points of power to the one who claims his life.

>>5552551 >>5551896 For Leon, it had only been about a day or 2 ago since he was alive, fighting a war for Sparta. Now he was eliminating overgrown pests in a place of worship, in the name of power. Still, something tickled him wrong. Although there was the familiar dividing of spoils, as he had used his gold coin which was originally meant for Charon, the ferryman of the Styx, for settling who would win an old church between his new skeletal brothers. He could feel the hunger of the undead clawing for more, and he was probably no different. To find out he didn't get an afterlife, but was to remain stuck here on the material plane filled him with a great sadness. Leon would shed tears, but those who've died were never meant to cry.
The group of clattering bones stumbled upon a slumbering demon. "Ahh... It's been a while since I've seen anyone here. My name is Zir, I was imprisoned here long ago. Please free me. I will serve you faithfully if you bind me to one of you. I have desired escape for so long..."
Looking at his Skeleton brothers, they've seem to have varying reactions. One was neutral, another curious, and another with eyes even more empty than that of a true dead. He was surprised no one immediately went to free the imprisoned demon.
To break up the silence Leon unhinged his dry jaw and spoke, "Do you guys mind if I claim our demon friend here?" It filled him with shame. How could a person own another person?
"CLAIM HIS SOUL OR CLAIM HIM AS A COMPANION?" rattled the mad skeleton, who wielded an arm as if it were any other regular sword. It was an obvious question to ask yet it still bothered Leon. Of course, at this point he had to admit to himself he was probably being a little sensitive, as he saw himself in the chained prisoner, for he was one before he was a soldier of Sparta.
"A companion. Of course it would be a waste to kill such talent." He didn't want to admit most of it was because of his heart. "Zir, submit to me and be bound by myself, and your body shall no longer rot, and your mind shall no longer decay. You will help us work to build something greater." To the evil beings that spawned with him, something greater was becoming a powerful being. To the unknown God, something greater was to become a God like itself. But to Leon.... He had bigger things in mind.

Since most have submitted their actions, I'll give another day for the absent ones (Khoulash and Trismegistus) to possibly return and post theirs.
You have until 12:00 GMT February 2nd to post/change your actions.
Waiting/regrouping are valid as well. You're doing this by default if you haven't stated otherwise.
So far I see the following:
>>5551914 Wispy Woes - absorb corpse energies, use magic to make a lure
>>5551955 Rakanishu - scout beyond the ruins, attempt to turn stone into staff
>>5552005 >>5552417 >>5552551 >>5552601 Mark Skellington - claim shrine, sacrifice 10 spiders
Mr. Skeletalz - give his share of the spiders to Mark
Leon - bind Zir, sacrifice 5 spiders
The Living Tombbone - sacrifice 5 spiders
Khoulash (inactive) - devour 5 spiders and the matriarch
Trismegistus (inactive) - sacrifice 5 spiders
I should say some things I failed to mention previously. First, regarding sacrificing/devouring/absorbing, you may choose to forsake 1 point of power to instead heal yourselves for 10 HP. You also slowly regain HP over time.
About the demon, binding Zir is a bit of a risky affair since the more distant he is from his overlord, the more likely he is to break free. It depends on the power the overlord possesses, but with Leon not evenly matched with the demon, the range is about a kilometer. It shouldn't be a problem so long as you keep him close, but something to keep in mind nonetheless. In the future, as you become more powerful and start to depend on your subordinates more (and as they become more powerful, as well), you may face rebellions and others staking their own claim on godhood against yours.

>2. Do the rituals take an entire action phase to complete or can you do more actions afterward? "Action phases" are very nominal, some actions may take longer, so the players performing them will be preoccupied for several turns, while some are short. As you drift away from each other (or stay together, but attend to different tasks), the quest will probably become pretty asymmetrical. There is no set number of actions in an action phase, so you may queue up as many as you like so long as they aren't interrupted, it's just that they'll take more time, so other players may perform their own while you're busy. So yes, you can finish the rituals and do more actions afterward.
Also, you cannot pray at the shrine. It makes no sense for one pretender to pray to another. That's like symbolically giving up your claim on godhood and recognizing another's. Also even if you go against your nature, it drains your points proportional to how powerful you are.
>>5553106 What do you want to know? I haven't played Shadow of War, but yes, you can sacrifice him. He cannot resist your attacks in immediate vicinity due to being bound to you. But when you obtain more servants it may be demoralizing for them to witness the death of one of their comrades at your hands or hear about it. Though it's not a problem when your either have few servants or you're too powerful for them to dare oppose you.

Rolled 21, 55, 15, 5 = 96 (4d100) >>5551914 >Wispy Woes - absorb corpse energies, use magic to make a lure Wispy Woes approaches the corpse and concentrates. Falling into a clear state of mind, the wisp reaches out and absorbs the dead man's energies, withering him. (1/20 power)
Using a simple illusion spell that feeds on flesh, Woes lights up the corpse, hoping to attract the villagers to a distant light in the woods... (-5 MP, 185/200 MP)
1st roll for lure, higher is more, but more challenging.
2nd roll for combat, varying DC depending on previous.
>>5551955 >Rakanishu - scout beyond the ruins, attempt to turn stone into staff With lacking knowledge of making magical artifacts, and simply attaching the stone to a stick insufficient to channel its power, it'll be a hard task to craft something worthy...
3rd roll for creating an artifact, DC: 90
Rakanishu departs south, investigating what lies beyond the ruins. He finds a series of 3 villages on the banks of another river. Far to the southwest, there is a city. Beyond the river, there is a place of power - an obelisk around which spirits of the wind gather. Several mages communicate with them. There is some possibility of being noticed here...
4th roll for stealth, DC: 60

>>5552005 >>5552345 >Mark Skellington - claim shrine, sacrifice 10 spiders The shrine is part of the temple. It consists of a stone altar, several wide magical circles, and some statues of a humanlike figure holding grapes. The symbols on the circles have not been erased in spite of the time that has passed since the church has been abandoned. Mark concentrates and touches the altar. A sense of power overwhelms him initially, but slowly, he subdues it and claims as his own. When he's finished, the circles have shifted to other symbols and the statues have moved to represent a skeleton with a sword - that's him! (10/20 power)
The sword-wielding skeleton also draws circles with spider blood and sacrifices some of them in rituals. Power flows within him... (20/20 power)
As might flows within the skeleton, he senses himself ready to morph into something... greater. The power transforms him in subtle ways, his bones becoming stronger, growing to make him tower over the regular human. He also obtains only a single, but important power -- that of reanimation of the dead.
Mark Skellington has obtained new skills:
Greater skeleton - you tower over regular humans at about 3m high and possess greater power than them. You receive bonuses in most fights, unless facing a nimble opponent.
Bones of iron - your max HP increases by 100.
Reanimation of the dead - you can use MP to reanimate the dead into will-less servants. You can hold dominion over no more than [current points of power] undead at once.
Your type is now Greater skeleton - Undead.
As you make the initial steps on the road to godhood, you may choose one ASPECT to hold dominion over. An aspect is a concept or object that you can influence. e.g. an aspect of Love (concept) allows you to forge tighter bonds which provide benefit in combat, charm your enemies, etc. An aspect of Insects (object) allows you to direct swarms and, in the future, create your own species which serve a certain purpose or grow giant bugs, etc.
Aspects start out weak but grow stronger and unlock new abilities (or strengthen existing ones) as you obtain more power.
Some aspects, while seemingly very powerful, only really come into play later on, such as Time. The aspect of Existence and some others are banned (idk the full list but I'll tell you if it's not valid). I'd also like to ask you to not pick meme aspects such as Chairs or Socks or Shit or something. I simply don't know what to do with them. Though I won't stop you if you do and try to think something up.
Pantokrator !pJnTbY47k6
>>5552417 >>5553224 >Mr. Skeletalz - give share of spiders to Mark Skellington, appraise valuables, fortify temple, make SKELECHAIR There are bags holding a total of 1000 gold coins, various jewellery such as necklaces, bracelets, and rings both with gems and simply made of precious metals. There are also wooden carved figurines and other more simple offerings.
Staying behind, Mr. Skeletalz attempts to fortify the temple, yet with neither materials nor tools the most he can do is shift some stones. Once this is finished, he makes a SKELE-, no, SPIDERCHAIR out of the severed chitinous limbs of defeated spiders, tying them together with some twine. He sits alone for some time, amid the ruined church, before a shrine that doesn't belong to him. (since fortification isn't really possible beyond repairing the church a bit until you obtain an axe to build from wood or shovel to make earthworks, it takes little time and you rejoin others, so you may take actions as well)
>>5552551 >Leon Skelly - sacrifice 5 spiders, bind Zir After sacrificing 5 spiders (5/20 power), Leon turns to the demon and gives him a look over. His form vaguely resembles that of a human, yet with several differences, significant and lesser. His hands possess impressive claws which may very well be used in combat like daggers. His skin is a deep red, bulging, even after years of immobilization, muscles clear of any hair. His mouth possesses jagged, sharp teeth. Above it, there is a receded nose and a pair of pitch black eyes. His head is topped with a pair of slightly curved horns. Behind his back is pair of mighty wings akin to those the imp, Rakanishu, possesses.
With a ritual of arcane words and magical symbols, Leon senses a mighty presence, yet still manages to wrestle it to submission with considerable mental effort. There is some constant strain on his mind now, a dull pain as he keeps the demon in check.
When asked about his past and powers, Zir thinks for a few moments.
"I hold dominion over fire. I may bend it into shapes suitable for me, engulf enemies in it, make fireballs, shape it into circles and walls to restrict movement. I can also fight decently with a variety of weapons, but my preferred one is a glaive. As for my past in greater detail... I was summoned along with other demons to this plane and enslaved to create artifacts of fire. For some time, I did that, but eventually we rebelled against our captors to overthrow them and obtain freedom. As I've said, we were crushed, the druidic circle deemed most too dangerous to be left alive, but me and a few others were imprisoned. I do not know what became of them. So here we are now."

Rolled 67, 65 = 132 (2d100) >>5552601 >The Living Tombbone - sacrifice 5 spiders Power flows within you as you drain whatever is left of the spiders... (5/20 power)
>>5552960 >>5552995 >>5553896 >Drooks and Crowdude - attack the patrol, use hexes and blessings After another trek through the woods along a familiar path, the witch places a blessing of mosskin on both himself and the wolf to dampen some blows. Both of them pulse with arcane energy. (80/100 MP left)
The patrol arrives soon enough. Casting a mass hex of blindness (30/100 MP left), Crowdude, followed by Drooks, springs out of ambush and mercilessly attacks the disorientated warriors...
5th roll Crowdude combat with +15 from mosskin
6th roll Drooks combat with +20 from strength and endurance, +15 from mosskin
DC: 75 (15 less than 90 due to blindness of enemies)
>Trismegistus (inactive) - sacrifice 5 spiders >Khoulash (inactive) - devour 5 spiders and matriarch The witch utters arcane words to get his mind into a proper state for the ritual, then absorbs power from spiders in torrents. (5/20 power)
The wolf simply devours foes many times larger than himself in his endless hunger. (10/20 power)
Pantokrator !pJnTbY47k6
Rolled 94, 79 = 173 (2d100) >>5554228 >Wispy Woes - 21 >55 vs 30 - Success 3 villagers -- a search party, perhaps? -- follow the light into the woods. The wisp strikes them down mercilessly with a barrage of overpowering arcane arrows. Their skin now bears magical burns, their hearts exploded in their chest from the sheer energy flowing into the body. Do you wish to absorb these as well?
Rakanishu - 15 vs 90 - Artifact creation failure
>5 vs 60 - Stealth failure Rakanishu attempts to fuse the stone with the stick, but to no avail. They remain unconnected.
The spirits notice Rakanishu. They sense the imp's demonic nature and decide to attack, inflicting some powerful, whipping hits with their wind gusts. His wings betraying him, Rakanishu has to escape by running. The wind spirits don't seem particularly interested in completely killing him, though, so they don't give chase. (-40 HP, 60/100 HP)
The imp continues his journey. At last, to the southeast of the woods, where mountains go from north to south, stands a mining town. With the south scouted, Rakanishu starts his return to the bonfire...
[You MAY NOT perform actions for now. You're still considered on the way.]
>>5554233 >Crowdude - 67 + 15 (82) vs 75 - Success >Drooks - 65 + 35 (100) vs 75 - Success The pair are a storm of fury, placing precise and quick strikes in the chaos, killing 5 warriors each with only miniscule injuries. (Crowdude's HP 95/100, Drooks's HP 190/200)
However, as the hexes wear off, there remains 5 warriors for each of them to take down...

Crowdude still struggles with his adversaries. He manages to kill 2 of them, but remains mostly on the defensive. The freed up Drooks manages to shield him from several strikes. (Drooks HP -10, half of -20 due to mossskin, 130/200 HP)
The remaining enemies break out into a run!.. except they can't due to being crippled. Noticing their heavy, unmoving legs, they decide to make a last stand. The mage prepares a mighty spell...

>The team - 11 vs 20, combat failure The battlemage manages to finish casting his spell. An arcane blast resounds throughout the forest, throwing back everyone except Zir, damaging even through mosskin with its magical nature! (-20 HP for everyone)
Still, the group manages to recover and finish off both the battlemage and the soldiers. A victory in the end!

Rolled 31 (1d100) >>5556674 >>5557957 >Mark Skellington - sacrifice 4 corpses, raise 10 for 100 MP (I assume you'll absorb power from those Drooks gave you)
A morsel compared to how much Mark gained from the shrine and the spiders, but a step towards greatness nonetheless. Power from 4 corpses flows within the Greater skeleton. His primary objective, however, is raising the dead -- he spends 100 mana to reanimate 10 corpses -- 10 will-less, devoted, if mindless servants to do his bidding.
>>5557917 >Crowdude - sacrifice 20 corpses Crowdude, in spite of his injuries, performs the necessary rituals, the mage yielding more power (5 points) than others, and feels the surge of power transforming him, morphing him into something greater.
The witch is more resilient due to dark powers flowing within his body, he may now make slaves and inflict direct arcane damage.
Crowdude has obtained new skills:
Dark resilience - your HP increases by 100.
Dark magic - you can make direct arcane attacks for 10 MP against a single target and 50 MP against a group of enemies. You may also setup arcane shields for yourself and your allies.
Mind enslavement - you may purge the mind of a captive or otherwise incapacitated living being, making them mindless and binding them to your will, for an amount of MP proportional to their power (base 10). They retain part of their previous skills. You may control [your number of power points] mind slaves at most, but that number may decrease depending on the total power of the slaves you control.
Your type is now Warlock - Man.

>>5556837 >Wispy Woes - repeat the plan, 1 corpse for lure, 1 for trap Wispy Woes absorbs the corpses. Power, greater than ever before, seeps into him... But he hungers for more. The wisp spends 55 MP to create another trap and lure, and waits... and waits... and waits... But noone comes. It seems the villagers have understood something's up with the forest and decided not to send any more to die. A waste of mana.
>>5557404 >Drooks - give 8 corpses to Crowdude, 4 to Mark, explore the mountain pass Generously ceding his corpses to his allies, Drooks makes his way towards the mountain pass. A couple hours of travelling later, the dire wolf encounters a tribe of goblins in a net of caves opening into a mountain valley. They haven't noticed him yet, but there is always risk of that, and further investigation of the pass is impossible without alerting them. There is no telling how many may hide in the cavern network.

With an overwhelming amount of power flowing into Leon, he transforms into something greater.
Like Mark Skellington, his bones strengthen, he grows in power, and gains the ability to reanimate the dead.
Leon Skelly has obtained new skills:
Greater skeleton - you tower over regular humans at about 3m high and possess greater power than them. You receive bonuses in most fights, unless facing a nimble opponent.
Bones of iron - your max HP increases by 100.
Reanimation of the dead - you can use MP to reanimate the dead into will-less servants. You can hold dominion over no more than [current points of power] undead at once.

The sight of three skeletons, 10 zombies and a demon with a head of their battlemage to boot sends the remaining garrison into a panic. After several minutes of arguing, they open the gates.
They bend the knee to the group's power.
"We have complied with your demands... Please do not kill us." -- they beg.
There are 10 of them in total, just like the wolf and witch's predictions.
Inside the castle, there is a barracks building, where the soldiers sleep and spend most of their free time playing games or otherwise, the arsenal where various weaponry is stored, the mage's tower which features a library and a testing room for various spells, and various technical buildings such as the canteen and builder's sheds. What is the Cataclysm through which the world was transformed? For ages, the world was reigned over by the Pantokrator, a being of supreme power whom nobody could challenge. However, one day, the Pantokrator simply disappeared. There is a very concrete reason for this, but you do not know it yet. This was about 29 years ago. Once this happened, his enemies, previously imprisoned or banished somewhere, have broken free. Chaos followed. Due to their power, they rampaged through the lands, craving greater might, dividing the lands among themselves with new borders. This was a period called the War of Mages. When they realized they cannot yet obtain enough power to become the new Pantokrator, things have calmed down, and these pretenders, have redirected their attention towards researching legends and other subtle hints towards where they may obtain greater mastery over magic. They also enslaved entire nations and put them towards creating ever-greater artifacts to aid them when this new cold war would eventually come to an end in a global conflict, and praying in order to increase the amount of power they held. That's where you are now. You are currently in one of these kingdoms called Nostros ruled over, as you've heard, by a council of phoenixes - sapient magical beings of fire. You are in the northeastern part of Nostros, with the Phoenixes' reign stronger in the central areas. You do not know much about Nostros beyond the fact that it's a human state. You'll have to explore to find out more about its geography, peoples, and important places.

Leon screams as a new feeling comes over him. Though it it supposedly entirely beneficial, it is still an uncomfortable feeling. He feels like his identity is being ripped and his ego torn to shreads.
A disembodied voice asks Leon a question. He thinks back to his entire previous life. Growing up a begger, to then be captured and used as a slave, then drafted to wars and battles in somebody else's service. He reaches for an illusion of a priestess who's name keeps slipping away, but can't even reach the intangible existence. Abandoned by the Gods he followed faithfully and everyone who was around him.
"I WILL... GRAHHHHH!" Leon throws his head to scream in the air as he attempts to gain his composure.
The aspect Leon chooses is PERSEVERANCE.
>>5559186 Leon goes to see what everyone is doing. Assuming Crowdude will tell Leon his new powers Leon offers his advice.
"Mr. Crow, just mind control them to get answers, they're already chained up and you can knock them out if you need to."
Leon Skelly !mXyLtzMhjE
Leon walks over to his skeletal cohort to see their plans. His brother is already splitting up, worse yet, Leon's new evolution is already weighing on him. What if Mark isn't my brother? He'll just take over the world and kill me in the end. He goes to reach his hand out like before, yet it was still the same result. "M-Mark...." He and his new minions have already begun marching as soon as he finished talking to Mr. Skeletal. Leon wasn't even a blip on his radar. Maybe it's not so bad, after all he has- "LEON, COME WITH ME AND BRING ZIR, WE HAVE A VILLAGE TO BURN." That's all he fucking is. A war machine. He already served his time yet death taunted him. And even when he sought new companionship, they were merely artificial. Everyone but him was waiting to break out and become a God to rule over others. He begun to think that even Zir, who's life he saved because he was similar to himself would attack him of he wasn't bound. A scramble of past and present stormed his thoughts. "Excuse me for a moment. I'll be right back, Zir I need your assistance if you would."
Leon Skelly !mXyLtzMhjE
Leon goes to fetch an old Robe that would cover his body, and something for Zir too if he could. Perhaps even making something haphazardly to make a robe similar to his own.
Leon Skelly !mXyLtzMhjE
After doing that, he will go return back Mr. Skeletal. "Why don't we grab a boat and sail down the river? Maybe mingle and Scout first? I feel if we keep doing things this way we'll be on somebody's radar. Plus, I wouldn't want to exhaust Zir."

(Wispy laying traps, Crow interrogating, Drooks eating Goblins, Mark marching with his Army to unknown lands, and Skeletalz still wanting to loot and go on a murder spree.) I purposely made Leon kind of the bland (relatively, I'm still trying to do interesting things with his backstory, his present interactions with the world, and his future plans.) protag straight man so the others could shine more in either silly or darker ways. Everyone is doing a good job of portraying their character, but the characters themselves don't have a lot of substance yet. So far it just seems like the world is for killing and out to kill us, which is understandable because of what we are but there doesn't seem to be any nuance. The only thing that kind of remedies it is Zir, but he's more of an ally/servant rather than an interactable NPC of the world. NOT trying to critique the QM or any players here though since they didn't ask. There's really nothing more rattling in his skull than FIRE AND SLAUGHTER, but Leon did ask nicely. That's enough to give pause about. Maybe give a little skullspace for it. Maybe.

Leon stops for a moment as he looks into the lush greenery around him. "I was reminded of my home land, which I may never seen again. And also the one person who tried to take care of me.... I'd thought I'd get to rest after my prayers of faith and my compelled service. But now I'd ended up in a place I know nothing about." He looks down towards the floor of the boat. >>5559054 >>5559186 >Crowdude - aspect of Bone, interrogate soldiers Bone is a pretty specific aspect, but due to its presence in most living organisms, it is nevertheless a valid field to master.
Crowdude gains the following skills:
Bonebreaker - your attacks cripple enemies that possess bones in their structure.
The warriors don't know much. They tell Crowdude that he is in the province of Aix of Nostros. The central administrative city of Aix is Arisene which is down the river. It has a population of about 3000.
The most important places of the province, magically speaking, are Obelisks of Winds. There are three of them, one in the east, one in the northwest and one in the southwest, near the core lands of Nostros. These directions are counting from Arisene. They are places where spirits of winds gather, they bear some other magical importance, but the warriors don't know what exactly it is.
There are several smaller towns in Aix, of which they know about Narthei and Isin, to the southeast and northwest accordingly, which are mining towns that extract iron out of the mountains. There are also a couple agricultural towns in the southwestern part of the province.
They know that beyond the mountains lay wild lands where orcs, goblins and wild tribes dwell. The warriors are supposed to keep watch over the mountain pass and warn Arisene in case an invasion occurs.
There is also a druidic circle in the forests to the west of the castle. There, druids gather and discuss their plans for the coming year every spring. There are always a couple druids hanging around at other times of the year though.

Deadly magic fortitude - when below 50% HP, reduce all magic damage received by 20%.
After Crowdude helps him in the workshop, Leon dresses himself in spacious robes and wraps his face so that only his eyesockets are visible. He does the same for his companions, both the skeleton and the demon, though the latter's horns make it obvious to anyone who they're facing after a bit of thought.

The reason I'm not outright sacrificing the goblin chieftain is because I wanna try to resurrect him for multiple reasons.
Also OP, do we regain all our health and mana when we level up or do we have to sacrifice separately from that? Because if Mark ascends now and regains all his points as a result, then I might as well pour them all into just the power stat, rather than just wasting them.

>>5564362 >>5564421 >Mark Skellington - sacrifice goblins, acquire axe A gruesome ritual takes place in the valley. Circles of arcane symbols etched in blood on the ground, piles of mutilated goblin corpses, and a single skeleton overseeing it all. [200/200 HP, 100/100 MP]
With 76 goblins left after restoring his strength, both magical and physical, streams of power flow into Mark, invigorating, transforming him once again. A Greater skeleton becomes something greater yet. His form does not change much, but his skill grows...
Mark Skellington has learned new skills:
Reanimation of the dead upgraded - you may choose to make the undead you ressurect more powerful, so long as they are corporeal. Ghouls and crypt knights are now within your grasp.
Strength of the mound - you gain further bonuses to combat.
You gain 200 max HP and 100 max MP.
Your type is now Mound King - Undead
Your aspect does not advance on this stage. You may not pick another aspect for now.
It takes the entire night to perform the rituals. [120/1000 power]
The glowing axe is a masterful work, evidently not made with goblin hands. It is a bit small for you, but should be fine in combat. Its handle is made of hardwood, the iron head is bearded, allowing capture of enemy blades. The iron glows with a soft blue light. The decorative etchings on the metal are thready in nature. You may name it if you wish. Otherwise it will be known as an axe of piercing.
>>5564530 >Drooks - howl, explore Drooks utters a howl, letting everyone in a several kilometer radius know he's there.
It takes some hours to cross the mountains to the other side. Once there, the wolfman scouts the immediate surroundings. There is a vast forest here with some interesting smells. Great beasts dwell here for sure, spirits of the forest perhaps? It'll take some time to track them down. Deeper into the Wildlands there is a tribe of orcs with about 200 members. Orcs are savage, but ultimately sapient creatures. Unlike the half-animal goblins, they may be reasoned with. Near the orc tribe there is a forest where talismans of unknown purpose are hung on the trees.
>Crowdude Morning comes. Somewhere far away, a wolf howls. With the first rays of light, Crowdude departs for the village and soon enough drops off the soldiers there. The warriors eye him suspiciously but ultimately do not reveal what truly happened with the garrison to the villagers,. The villagers in turn tell the warriors of a demonic and undead threat from the woods. The warlock listens in. They say they sent for a cleansing squad to Arisene. It is unknown when it may arrive. The villagers suggest the disappearance of the castle garrison may be linked with the sudden increase of disappearances in the woods and the recent fight. The soldiers avert their eyes.

A message is left for Drooks, indicating that Mark is in the caves.

Nostros is a kingdom of men. It does not possess many mages in its service, but it has mastered conventional warfare: the use of infantry, cavalry and archers. The people of Nostros are moderately different, having been united relatively recently from various human states by the Phoenix Council. The province of Aix is one of the least developed in Nostros. It is, however, an important source of iron for the state army of the kingdom. By taking it, you may acquire a steady source of equipment for your armies, so long as the population isn't all killed and sacrificed for power. The northern provinces are on the shores of the Sea of Snakes, a central body of water of the world linking the three major continents. The provinces are great centers of maritime trade. The southern provinces of Nostros have been ravaged by a werewolf plague recently. Cleansing squads - groups of mages and experienced monster slayers - frequently patrol the villages and cities, looking for the plagued and eliminating them. They are rather frontier-like, far from the developed lands of the center and west. The western provinces of Nostros are the breadbasket of the kingdom. Bordering the lands of Rus, which are relatively safe, they provide grain and other food for other provinces.

Seeing as there's faults in the system, like poorly thought-out asymmetry where players are stuck doing nothing for several turns, the bad balance in combat and pretty bland posts overall, I've decided to end this quest here. If anyone wants to take over from here, feel free to do so. Thanks for playing with me so far, hope you enjoyed it while it lasted. You guys were a pleasure to play with, with all the rp you've been doing being far superior to my posts. I'll be back with a multiplayer civ sometime in the future. Already did one failed attempt at that a year ago, maybe this one will go differently.

>>5570156 Yeaaah, when you're basically going "NO MEME TELEPORT, SIT AND BLOW SMOKE UP YOUR ASS FOR A WEEK IRL", there's only so much room for RP before we get bored. Maybe if you updated multiple times each day or something, sure.
But given how slow quest is, telling people to sit in the corner is just really lame. I had fun but yeah, you do need to improve your system a lot.

>stuck doing nothing for several turns you could NOT do that. What if you do a 1d100 roll when travelling, and depending on how successful they will be will give them options to do something while travelling. Maybe if they get 80, they can improve themselves a bit or learn about the destination, but if they get 45, maybe the difficulty is increased.
>bad balance how about scaling the combat differently? didn’t you try to do that after the castle battle?
>bland writing I don’t think so. I thought it was pretty alright.
Although, I suppose I can’t really do much. You’ve made up your mind to the point of writing this post. It was fun, qm

And so that's how it ends... Not with a bang, and not even a whimper. Reality itself gave up on the world. There was a story to be told, yet it will never be spoken. Leon's very declaration to not rot killed him. They are forever stuck heading towards somewhere new with all their might, frozen in time. Maybe Mark really did win. Who really was Zir? Was he really a slave or was he lying? What the hell was going on with Leon's pansy ass? What about his wispy friend and Skelebros? We may never really know... But if you want a new story, one that's just beginning but yet can't blossom without the help and choices of others, I'd be happy to shill Sleep Quest! It's something I'm running but due to lack of player interaction and a tie breaker it's stuck. Or just let it die. It wasn't that good anyway. I'm a better player than I am at running.

>>5570156 Joking image aside, like Crowdude said, calm down, nigga. He already covered most of what I want to say. Being rigid about worth of player actions is frustrating - /qst/ players appreciate flexibility and write-ins.
Combat seems kind of busted. Hundreds of one power goblins seems a bad case of jobbing due to sheer numbers in consideration (one soldier soul = one goblin soul seems weird).
Take it as a learning experience, if you're leaving. See ya.

It’s been a while. Anyone still interested in a multiplayer skirmish?
