Returning home with a cart full of wood, you caught sight of a group of children playing tag at the edge of the abyss. Being a responsible (young) adult, you go there tell them to leave the edge of the abyss. However, you forgot to secure your cart before coming to the rescue of the children, and it slid towards you, knocking you down. The way into the abyss was a slope, and you ended up rolling all the way down. You still tried to grab at the edge of the abyss, the children even tried to pull you up, but you ran out of strength and fell.
You weren't expecting to wake up again, but you do. The way you feel, every bone in your body must be broken.
You see a red humanoid creature nearby, about the size of a child. It has horns and a little pointy tail.
"Ah! So you're not dead. Good, good!", says the creature.
"I'm Pyrog, the demons. I need souls, and you need healing. I can bestow upon you the power of the nine hells if you so much as give me your allegiance."
"I won't forfeit my soul to demons.", you say.
"It is okay, I don't want your stinking soul. I want soulS! Plural! And you look like the kind of guy who can get souls for me. What do you think?"
"Do I really have an option?"
"Of course! You can die here alone in the abyss."
"That's unacceptable. Very well, give me power."
The demon cackles. It then puts his hand on your left forearm and draw a symbol with his own blood.
He then grabs your waterskin.
"Touch it."
You touch the waterskin.
"It became a healing potion. Now drink it."
You greedily drink the liquid from the waterskin, who has acquired a foul coloration and stench.
You start feeling better immediately.
"Now let me take care of these bones so you don't get them healed in the wrong position."
The demon puts your bones back in place. With every move, searing pain causes you to yell. You gulp down your potion, and your bones are mended.
The demon then grabs a part of your shadow in the ground and molds it with magic. He then hands it to you. In your hands, it becomes a dagger with a bunch of weird inscriptions into it.
"Now go find me some souls."
You get up and start wandering through the abyss, wondering how you're going to get out of this hole.
After some wandering, you happen upon a big black dragon!
The dragon opens his eyes and look at you.
"Ah! A warlock! Did you come to steal my treasure?"
"I just want a way out of here."
"Did you fall in the abyss?"
"Yes, and a demon saved me."
"That's hardly saving. See, I could fly you out of the abyss."
"Oh, great!"
"But what there is in it for me?"
"What do you want?"
"Well, see that tunnel over there? Beyond it there is a whole lot of tiny monsters. Monsters I can't go there and kill myself because their tunnels are too small for me. They are constantly trying to rob me. Kill those things and you earn your flight out of the abyss."
