The elders had your people seal it at first, but within a year your fort was attacked by a large army of shadow elves! These elves wield powerful magic and can mend with the shadows, to evade attacks and gain powerful abilities. Your fate seemed sealed, as your warriors were no match for their magic, but your people discovered that fire could still hurt the shadow elves even in their shadowy form.
So you built chicken walker robots with flamethrowers to patrol your tunnels and deal with the shadow elves menace! You also have a bunch of mad dwarves who carry flamethrowers in combat themselves. Most of your conventional troops have been wiped out though.
