It has been a thousand years since the elvish city of Myth Kranor been razed by the lich king Voratrius, who was after a short reign of terror subsequently defeated by a group of heroes and banished. Your great grandmother, Tereena the Archwitch, was part of the group of heroes who defeate the lich king. She taugh your grandmother the secrets of elvish magic before passing away, who taught your mother, and you mother did her best to teach you as much as she could before she, too, was claimed by the sands of time.
Without the special food and drink from the ancient city, the lifespan of elves drammatically decreased, from about 800 years to around 300 years.
Although reclaiming the old city is a prospect that fills you with dread, you realize that it has come time for your people to band together again, for those ancient banishing rituals only last for about a thousand years - someone will have to banish the lich king again once he returns to the realm of the living, else he resumes his reign of terror.
You lived alone in your hut most of your life, but you know there are many elves living around the same forest you do, a few weeks away from the Kranor Forest, which the humans call the Shadow Woods, due to it being populated by the tortured souls of your ancestors, who will only find rest once the city is reclaimed and cleansed from the undead taint.
You could just show up at yout neighbour's places and ask for support, or you could go unbury some relic from Myth Dranor to impress them. You ancestors left some of those in a cache hidden in a cave.
There is also a third option - you could go to Myth Kranor alone and light the Beacon there. It will send psychic waves across the world, inviting all elves to return to their destroyed home.
