Contractor Quest

ID:BdTVf2p6 No.5704837 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
“I want to join Maniple Inc.”

The officer before you raises an eyebrow, you feel angry at the hospital workers for not giving you anything better to wear than a what amounts to two cheap white sheets and all the bandages still wrapped on you because apparently ‘Healing Accelerators are meant only for combatants, not brats.’

The officer rolls his eyes and sighs, bringing you back from the memory of this morning. “You’re just a kid, come back when you can pay your own hospital bills.” He tells you with an air of finality and turns to leave.

Like hell he gets away from you that easily. “I’ve seen the corpses, your corp lost a heavy squad once every street in Downtown, you’ll need men and who would be better than someone who lived through that hell?!.” You keep up with the increasingly fast-walking Manic through the maze-like corridors of the facility, yelling at him as nurses look but don’t bother intervening, too busy with the overcrowded infirmary.

“You know you could get sued for false accusations, don’t you kid?” The irritated mercenary tries again to be diplomatic. “Besides, Maniple might not even exist next week so how about you jus-”

To be fair, you are tired, you are hungry, you even remember some nurse saying something about twelve hundreds milli-‘see-vuht’ before the anaesthesia kicked in, whatever that was, a part of you even knows that you are not thinking straight and how could you?! Tech-addicts burning from the inside-out or some peddler chocking on his cargo are nothing, you even got to see the aftermath of a PRISM raid on some gangs who were making some bioweapons out of the local biowaste or something like that? You don’t remember that one quite well. Point being, you know how life is, those things are normal when you cram 41 billion people in 7 dimensions, what 【HAPPENED】 now? That wasn’t normal, that wasn’t life, you do not know what that was, not even your family did… did… You push aside that heavy feeling in your chest and focus on the anger you feel at this manic who, despite not looking like top of the crass himself with those standard eyes, gear you’ve seen outclassed by doped up tech-addicts and a pathetic attempt at a moustache, despite returning from the same hellhole his fellow manics died in, despite all of that, this guys thinks that he is better than you.

Which is why you don't let the merc finish and instead push him down a flight of stairs.
