When you moved with your family to the big city, were worried that you wouldn’t make friends there. But you’ve quickly made some good friends. You decide to call Tasos and Kostas to get to your local gyros shop. Tasos gladly came, but Kostas wouldn’t make it since he’s employed now. You don’t know the specifics of his occupation and don’t really care. You’re just disappointed that he couldn’t make it.
As you are eating with Tasos, you’re catching up with each other. Granted, Tasos didn’t any noteworthy news, but you told him about your enlightening experience from the gym.
“Are you serious man? You’re telling me that you were so focused on the rowing machine that you felt your ancestors’ spirits? You sure you didn’t just experience a workout high or something?”
“Yes, believe me or not that’s what I experienced. I’ve felt workout highs before. This was nothing like it. I even forgot where I am and who I was!”
Tasos pauses for a minute, deeply in thought.
“Well, it’s not like I think it’s impossible. I heard similar things happening. Maybe the church would know about it, or maybe your parents would? They are pretty uh, how do I say this… old-fashioned? Set in their ways? Backwards? Rural? No offence really.”
If he wasn’t your friend, you would’ve strangled him right there on the spot. Well, you probably wouldn’t, but friends or not, hearing a city slicker talk carelessly about your clan as if they know anything about your ways of life, even if they don’t know any better, makes your blood boil.
“Uh Antoni, are you ok? I can see your veins on your head, and they all look like they’re about to burst.”
You take a moment to recollect yourself.
“Yes, I’m alright.”
“Well you looked like you were about to strangle me haha.” Tasos nervously joked.
“Sorry if I offended you somehow”
“It’s fine, really. Don’t worry about it Taso.”
“…Well then, while I did say you could investigate it further, I don’t think that’s necessarily a good idea. What is it that you said, that you want to live a worryless life or something? Well I don’t think digging through this incident would help. How about we forget about it and play a game? It’s been quite some time since we played tavli(backgammon).”
Tasos is right. Is it really wise to investigate this further? You are content with your current life, there is nothing more you could ask. Is satisfying your curiocity really worth risking it?
