Last time on Cutémon, you met the human boy Joe, a young man with dreams of becoming a famous mon trainer, and the mechanical mon Onlion! As it turned out, they were traveling to the secret lab of the sinister Professor Plumtree, another human who has far-reaching plans that include you! The Professor gave Joe a device called the cutécaptor designed only to capture Cutémons, but you were able to... ahem... retrieve it from Joe on his way to Rust City and retreat back the way you came! It was there you blundered into Diamond, a menacing arena owner with an even more menacing mon of her own, the hypnotic Rattletrap!

Thanks to Joe, you escaped Diamond's clutches, and the two of you discovered an old dojo owned by Booker, a former mon trainer at the Rust City Arena and a good friend to the arena's owner Rudy. Booker's Torrentani was no match for the fearsome Combuster, but with Joe's help you were able to knock some sense into Combuster and the two of you journeyed on to Rust City!

When you and Joe arrived in Rust City, you learned that Rudy had died and the arena was now in the hands of the gang leader Carlos and his musclebound Ripmunk. Rudy's granddaughter Mashi, the rightful owner of the arena, was outmatched with her own mon Volito, but together the three of you concocted a plan to convince Carlos the arena was haunted by Rudy's ghost! As it turned out, you were more right than you could have imagined and Rudy's final appearance removed all trace of Carlos and his gang!

With the arena back in business, Joe took you into the wilderness on a hunt for a mon, and managed to capture an enormous Sailater, while you managed to strike a deal with a passing Ramster who agreed to pose as your own mon, with you as his human trainer!

Returning to Rust City, you found yourself caught in the middle of a mon battle between the ruthless bounty hunter Trent and his psychic Catscan... and Professor Plumtree and his own mon Onlion! Trent was only a pawn of the Traders, a mysterious group of rare mon dealers, and even as more agents of the Traders captured Mashi, Joe, and Booker, you managed to escape Rust City under cover of night along with Ramster!

What do you mean you don't remember what you have in your pocket? You've only been asleep for a few hours!

You check your pocket. You have your Car Key that only starts your car, but your car is parked in the Rust City Arena right now!

What? You want to know what else is in your pocket? Well, there's the Cutécaptor, obviously! It looks like you also have your Travel Map, and your Video Game!

You reach up and touch the Baseball Cap on your head to make sure it's still there! You can't fool any humans into believing you're a human girl unless you're wearing a hat!

It looks like Ramster is still asleep!

Hairgrazer leans in and licks you! You can't help crying out!

"Hello? Is somebody there? Don't be afraid!" What? There's a human girl with the Hairgrazer? You didn't know she was there!

She can't see you because you're lying in the tall grass! You hold completely still!

"Well, fine then, if y'all want to lie in the grass all day, be my guest! Come on, Hairgrazer!"

It seems like the human girl and Hairgrazer are both leaving!

"Ram-ram?" Ramster just woke up! It seems like he wants to know what's going on!

"Shhh!"

You peek over the tall grass again. It doesn't look like Hairgrazer or the human girl heard Ramster! They're still walking across the field!

You look around again.

What? You can't see anything but tall grass in every direction? You mean you can't even see your tracks from last night? You really don't know which way you're supposed to go to get to Copper Citadel!

What? It seems like the human girl knows where she's going? I think you're right! Maybe if you follow her, you'll be able to figure out exactly where you're at!

You look down at Ramster again.

"Sneaking."

Ramster looks up at you and nods. "Ram-ram."

Ramster climbs up onto your shoulder!

You and Ramster sneak through the tall grass. You can't sneak very quickly, because the human girl isn't walking very quickly! It seems like she's letting Hairgrazer eat as much grass as it wants!

"Hairgraaaaaazer."

What? Hairgrazer stopped to eat again? You don't know how it can eat so much grass!

After a few moments the human girl pats Hairgrazer and says "Come on, let's get home. You know Pa doesn't like it when we're out here too long!"

"Hairgraaaaaazer."

Hairgrazer and the human girl start walking across the field again.

"Ram-ram!"

Ramster is tugging on your shirt! It seems like he just noticed something!

You look around, but you can't see anything! Maybe Ramster just imagined it! You look at Ramster and shake your head.

"Nothing."

"Ram-ram!" It seems like Ramster is pretty insistent that he saw something! Maybe you had better look again!

You look around again!

What? You see something sticking out of the tall grass? It looks like a clump of feathers!

What? You just noticed that a human man and a mon that looks like scruffy vulture with a duck bill are hiding in the tall grass? It's a Platyvult!

"Platyvult!"

Ramster is nodding his head! "Ram-ram!"

It seems like the human man and the Platyvult are watching the human girl and the Hairgrazer! You don't think they know you're here!

What? The human man and the Platyvult are starting to sneak closer to the human girl and the Hairgrazer? They don't seem very friendly!

The human girl doesn't know what to do either! She can't see anyone!

"Come on, Hairgrazer!" The human girl jumps on Hairgrazer and slaps its back! Hairgrazer starts running across the field as quickly as it can!

What? Hairgrazer is kicking up a cloud of dust because it's running so quickly? You didn't know Hairgrazer could run that quickly!

The human man stands up in the tall grass and says "They're getting away! Bart ain't gonna be happy! Why'd you tell her to watch out?"

Platyvult says "PLA-TEEEE!"

Suddenly, you hear a voice from almost right next to you!

"I didn't say nothing!"

What? You didn't know there was another human man hiding in the tall grass! You had better get out of her!

What? You're not sure where the other human man is?

Suddenly, a shadow falls over you!

"Ram-ram!"

You and Ramster look behind you and see another human man! Hovering next to him is a mon that looks like a bony piranha with hummingbird wings! The wings are flapping so quickly that you can't even see them! You're pretty sure it's called a Hummidunk!

"Well now, what's this?"

Hummidunk snaps its jaw and chirps "HUMMI!"

The other human man is looking down at you! "That's a real fine Ramster you got there, little lady! I think Bart is gonna want to meet you both and ask why you got in the middle of our Hairgrazer-rustling operation!"

The human man reaches down to grab you!

You keep crawling and find some pressed down grass! Is this the trail left by Hairgrazer and that human girl? You're pretty sure it is!

You run as fast as you can and suddenly the grass is only ankle high! You stop and duck back into the tall grass.

In front of you are Hairgrazer and the human girl! It seems like Hairgrazer is tired from running away like that!

"Hairgraaaaaazer."

"Come on, Hairgrazer, we're almost home!" The human girl is trying to get Hairgrazer to move but it's still tired!

"HUMMI!"

What? Hummidunk just flew over your head? Hummidunk didn't see you!

Hummidunk flies up to the human girl and snaps its jaws at her! She looks pretty scared!

"PLA-TEEEE!"

The human girl turns around to run the other way but Platyvult snaps its beak at her! The human girl can't help taking a step backward! She bumps into Hairgrazer!

Platyvult and Hummidunk are circling them!

What? The ground is starting to shake? You don't know what's happening! Is this an earthquake?

"TURR-BULL!"

What? Something very loud is coming closer? It's a mon that looks like an enormous rocky bull with a glowing crystal horn! It's even bigger than Sailater! There's a human man running next to it!

"Katie!"

"Pa!"

What? Is he the human girl's father?

"Terrabull, get them away from Katie and Hairgrazer!"

"TURR-BULL!"

Terrabull charges toward the other mons but they both fly up into the air before Terrabull can reach them!

Platyvult flies up in front of Terrabull and flaps its wings! "PLA-TEEEE!"

Terrabull stands up on his back legs! "TURR-BULL!"

"HUMMI!"


Hummidunk attacks Terrabull before he was ready!

Hummidunk attacks with Bone Bite!

It hurts Terrabull!

Terrabull tries to attack Hummidunk but misses!

Platyvult attacks Terrabull before he was ready!

Platyvult attacks Terrabull with Featherduster!

Terrabull can't see!

Terrabull tries to attack Platyvult but misses!

Hummidunk attacks Terrabull before he was ready!

What? You just remembered that Ramster really likes playing your video game?

You take your video game out of your jacket pocket and hold it up in front of Ramster!

"Ram-ram!" Ramster reaches up for the video game! It seems like Ramster wants to play the video game while he watches the fight!

You hold the video game out of his reach!

"Challenge!"

Ramster looks at the fight and then looks back at you and nods his head! "Ram-ram!" Ramster climbs into your hand!

You stand up and toss Ramster toward Terrabull! Ramster lands on the ground while running!

Hummidunk is just about to bite Terrabull again when it stops and looks the other way! Ramster is jumping through the air at Hummidunk!

You didn't realize Ramster was this powerful of a mon! He's really beating up Hummidunk!

"PLA-TEEEE!" Platyvult can't believe it!

What? Platyvult is distracted by the fight? Platyvult doesn't see the big shadow descending on him?

What? Platyvult just saw the big shadow?

"PLA-ACK!"

Terrabull steps on Platyvult!

"TURR-BULL!"

Hummidunk escapes and flies away as quickly as it can! "HUMMI!"

As soon as Terrabull moves his foot, Platyvult flops away as quickly as it can! "PLA-TEEEE!"

You duck down into the tall grass as Hummidunk and Platyvult pass by! They don't see you!

You look back at Ramster.

What? Katie is cradling Ramster and tickling his stomach? "Ain't you the cutest little thing?"

"Ram-ram!" It seems like Ramster is really enjoying himself!

Katie's father looks around and says "No sign of Bart's men. They're too cowardly to show their faces without their mons."

Katie nuzzles Ramster and says "I'm gonna make you a big meal as a reward for saving Hairgrazer and Terrabull from those nasty mons!"

"Ram-ram!" It seems like Ramster is pretty happy about this situation!

Katie's father looks around and says "That girl with the baseball cap must be one of those big-city mon trainers from Rust City... Huh? Where'd she go?"

What? You're hiding in the tall grass again? Is it because you're not sure if you want to talk to these humans?

What? You just remembered that those two men are still out in the tall grass?

This implies that she must be somewhere north or west of Rust City, the opposite direction of where she needs to be headed. That must be the other result of the 1 from last thread.

You stand up and step out of the tall grass!

"Oh, there you are!" The human man is looking at you! "I can't thank you enough for saving my little girl from those mons!" He points at Ramster and says "You and your mon are welcome to come back to our place and have lunch!"

Katie tickles Ramster's stomach again and says "I hope y'all are hungry!"

"Ram-ram!"

The human man is looking at you again! "I'm Cliff Redfern. This is my daughter, Katie."

It seems like he's expecting you to say something!

What? You think he's expecting you to tell him your name? But you don't have a name! You had better think of something quickly!

What? You want my help again? Well, what are some girl's names that you know?

"Mashi!" You didn't mean to say that out loud!

"Well, Mashi, nice to meet you." What? Cliff is shaking your hand? It seems like he thinks your name is Mashi!

Katie hands Ramster to you and says "Come on, y'all!" Katie and Hairgrazer start walking toward the house at the edge of the trees. Now that you're up close, you can see that Katie is only a little taller than you are!

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is tugging on your shirt! It seems like he wants to follow Katie and Hairgrazer!

What? Your stomach is rumbling? It's probably because you haven't eaten anything since yesterday morning!

You follow them up to the house. It seems like only Katie and Cliff live here! You sit down and Katie starts cooking lunch. It smells terrific!

"I hope y'all like steamed Hamburbler!" Katie sets the plate down on the table in front of you and spoons out a big bowl of mashed vegetables in front of Ramster. "And here are some yummy veggies for my little hero!"

"Ram-ram!" Ramster starts gobbling it up!

What? The steamed Hamburbler smells even more delicious now that it's ready? It wouldn't hurt to take just one bite, would it?

What? You just cleaned your entire plate? It seems like you were pretty hungry!

Katie puts some more steamed Hamburbler on your plate! You try to eat a little more slowly this time.

Cliff looks at Katie and says "I told you not to take that Hairgrazer too far from the house."

"But Pa, he loves the grass on that hill more than anything else!"

"That's no excuse! If it hadn't been for..."

What? Cliff is looking at you with a strange expression on his face? "I'm sorry. We shouldn't be quarreling in front of company."

Katie looks at you and asks "Is it true you're really a mon trainer from Rust City?"

You look at Ramster. Ramster is looking at you in mid-bite! You look at Katie and nod.

"Trainer."

"Golly, that must be pretty exciting!" Katie seems pretty interested in mon trainers!

After you eat lunch, Katie starts clearing the table and washing the dishes.

You take out your travel map and look at it again. You're still not sure where you are!

What? You think these humans might know where they are? You're probably right!

You look at Cliff.

"Copper Citadel?"

Cliff leans across the table and looks at your map! "This ranch probably isn't on your map." He points at a spot on your map and says "We're right about here."

You look at where Cliff is pointing. What? You're nowhere near Copper Citadel? It seems like you went the wrong direction after you left Rust City!

"Normally, you'd be welcome to come with us to Copper Citadel, but it looks like we won't be going anywhere." What? Cliff is looking out the window? It seems like he's looking at Hairgrazer!

"We were supposed to be shearing our herd of Hairgrazers today so we could take the hair to Copper Citadel, but Bart and his men rustled almost the entire herd a few days ago and I don't know where he's got them hidden. The only Hairgrazer he didn't get was that one."

What? Cliff and Katie had an entire herd of Hairgrazers, but those other human men stole them?

Katie finishes washing the dishes and asks "Are y'all gonna stay for supper?"

Ah shit. Pic related. It'd be a two day walk to Copper City otherwise, and a city nearby to Rusty City is likely where the Traders and Plumtree from interrogating Joe and the others cartel style expect us to be next. Our only option is to lay low for a few weeks until our next move, which would either be busting our buddies free or seeing Professor Ginger in Copper City. Staying to help out with whatever would give us a means to do this and maybe even score a new hat for our character's collection, but we should be careful just in case Bart has a greater reach. Speaking of which, whatever region we're in must be a lawless place if rustling happens so openly and easily.

"I'm afraid we don't have much room, so you'll have to bunk with Katie." Cliff stands up and looks at Katie and says "I have to go tend to Terrabull. Go put that Hairgrazer in the barn where it'll stay safe." Cliff walks out the door and then sticks his head back in and says "And make sure you lock the barn door!"

Katie stands up and says "C'mon, Mashi!" What? You just remembered that they think your name is Mashi? You had better go along with Katie! You look down at Ramster but he's still sitting at the table playing the video game!

What? You're not going to tell Ramster to put the video game away and come with you? You think that might be the best idea! After all, you don't want to be embarrassed in front of Katie if Ramster refuses to do what you ask him to do!

You and Katie go outside and Hairgrazer looks up. "Hairgraaaaaazer."

Katie scratches Hairgrazer and starts leading him toward one of the other buildings. Hairgrazer tries to lick you again! Is it because he knows you're really a mon?

"Hairgraaaaaazer."

"I think he likes you!" Katie opens the barn door.

"BELL-BELL-BELLFLY!"

What? A mon that looks like a bell clapper with bat wings is flying out of the barn doorway at you! Look out!


[SFX: battle music]

Bellfly attacked before you were ready!

Bellfly is fleeing the fight!

Bellfly escapes!


Katie shrieks! You're not sure if she was attacked by that Bellfly!

What? Katie is laughing? You don't know what's going on! "Oh, that Bellfly gave me a fright! It came outta nowhere, ain't that so, Hairgrazer?"

"Hairgraaaaaazer." It seems like Hairgrazer wasn't very concerned about the Bellfly!

Katie is looking at you! What? Why are your cheeks turning red? Is it because she thinks there's something strange about you? "You ain't upset about that lil' old Bellfly, are ya, Mashi? Why, it looked like you were ready to take it on yourself!"

Hairgrazer walks into the barn and Katie shuts the barn door behind him. "Gotta remember to lock it like Pa said to." Katie locks the door and puts the barn door key in her pocket! "Come on, Mashi! Let's get back to the house and I'll show ya my room!" What? Katie is really treating you like a human girl?

That night, you wake up in the dark and see Ramster sitting at the foot of Katie's bed! What? Has he really been playing your video game all night?

What? You just realized that Katie isn't sleeping in the bed? You look at Ramster!

"Ram-ram!" What? Ramster is pointing out the window!

You look out the window and see a faint glow through the trees! It looks like the glow from a lantern!

What? Is Ramster saying that Katie is out in the woods in the middle of the night?

You put on your clothes and baseball cap and look down at Ramster.

"Follow!"

Ramster looks up at you for a moment, then nods and gives you the video game. You and Ramster tip-toe out of Katie's room! When you get outside you run across the grass and into the woods toward the light!

"Who's there?" Katie holds up the lantern when she hears your footsteps! "Oh, Mashi, you scared the life outta me!" Katie reaches over and scratches Ramster's head!

"Ram-ram!" It seems like Ramster is enjoying it!

"Hairgraaaaaazer."

What? Hairgrazer is here too, even though you saw Katie lock the barn door? You know what that means, don't you?

What? You know what it means, but you want to make sure I know what it means?

It means Katie is bringing Hairgrazer into the woods on purpose!

You look at Katie!

"Hairgrazer?"

Katie holds up the lamp at Hairgrazer and nods. "That's right. See, Hairgrazer can sniff out the rest of his herd. Pa thinks it might be too dangerous, but I figure we can find out where Bart's keeping 'em and then figure out a plan. And if we do it in the middle of the night, they'll never even know we're there!"

What? Katie is looking at you? It seems like she's expecting you to say something!

"Are ya in or out?"

What? You feel like something is watching you from the trees?

You hurry to catch up with Katie!

"Pa doesn't like it when I play in these woods, but a few weeks ago I found an old campfire that they made. I knew it must have been them because there were Platyvult feathers everywhere!"

Katie holds the lantern up and turns a knob. What? Katie just put out the lantern? You can hardly see anything until your eyes adjust to the dark!

"Hairgrazer will lead us the rest of the way! Go on, now!" Katie nudges Hairgrazer. Hairgrazer starts sniffing around and then starts walking forward again! It looks like he might know where he's going!

What? You feel like something is watching you from the trees again?

You look around! Katie and Hairgrazer stop and Katie looks at you. "What's the matter, Mashi?"

"Ram-ram!" What? Ramster seems to see something! He's pointing at one of the trees! You look up and try to see what he's pointing at.

What? It's a mon that looks like a small white bird with a zigzag stripe? You're pretty sure that's a Buzzird! Why do you suppose it's watching you?

The Buzzird sees you looking at it and flies away! When it does, the zigzag stripe of its wings cuts through the branch it was on! You see why it's called a Buzzird!

You look at Katie!

"Buzzird!"

"Forget about that Buzzird, come on! The campfire is just over this hill!" Katie and Hairgrazer slowly creep up to the top of the hill!

What? There really is a campfire on the other side of the hill? You can see the two men and their mons sitting close to it!

The men don't know you can hear them!

"Bart is gonna be back from Copper Citadel any moment!"

"How are we gonna tell him we lost the entire herd of Hairgrazers?"

"If only we could get them out of that cave!"

You look at Katie! What? Katie has a strange expression on her face? Katie whispers "I know the cave they're talking about! Come on, let's go!"

You and Katie stand up and turn around, but in front of you is a tall human man with that Buzzird on his shoulder!

"Bart!"

"We didn't know you was back in town!"

What? This man is Bart? He looks at you and Katie and says "A little mon told me there were some kids nosing around." Bart reaches out a hand to grab you!

"Watch out, Bart! That's the kid..."

[SFX: biting noise]

"...that bit me."

Katie and Hairgrazer start running past the campfire! "Come on, Mashi! This way!"

Ramster is standing up on his tip-toes on your shoulder and sniffing the air! "Ram-ram!" Ramster is tugging on your shirt and pointing ahead! It seems like he doesn't think you should go any further either!

The rain parts in front of you and you see a cave! That must be the cave that Katie was talking about! The herd of Hairgrazers should be inside!

You and Katie look at each other and start running toward the cave! It seems like Katie is pretty happy!

What? You see two lights in the cave? They seem to be coming closer!

Suddenly a huge mon that looks like a spider with crab legs scuttles out of the darkness toward the mouth of the cave! It's an Araknagrab!

Katie can't help crying out in fear!

That Mon most likely ate many of the Hairgrazers by now, and perhaps keeps the others wrapped in webs. It will take a long while to unbind the ones still alive. We should have Katie and her Hairgrazer keep watch outside in case Bart's gang comes and to help wrangle the survivors among the herd.

You look at Katie again!

Katie looks at you and then finally turns around and runs away! "Come on, Hairgrazer!"

You turn back around right as Araknagrab hits you in the head with its pincer!

What? You got knocked out already?

...

You must be waking up, because your head hurts! You open your eyes and see that you're lying in a pit with a pile of mon skulls!

"Skull-ker!" What? There's a mon in the pit with you that looks like a skull with four stumpy legs? It's a Skullker! You feel like you should say something!

"Hello!"

Skullker wiggles his legs and says "Skull-ker!"

"Need help?"

"Skull-ker!" Skullker shakes his skull! It seems like he's pretty happy here!

What? You don't know why Araknagrab threw you in the pit? Maybe it was because Araknagrab thought you weren't alive anymore!

You climb out of the pit and look around the tunnel. You can see light coming from further up the tunnel! It looks like you're in the back of the cave!

You sneak up the tunnel and suddenly see Araknagrab! You have to slap your hands over your mouth to keep from crying out!

What? It looks like Araknagrab is sleeping in another tunnel! You can see the herd of Hairgrazers in a cavern on the other side of Araknagrab! They're all too frightened to move!

What? You also see Ramster in the cavern on the other side of Araknagrab? It seems like he's also too frightened to move!

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is hopping up and down! He has to hop out of the way of a falling boulder!

What? You're really going back for that Hairgrazer?

You turn around and run down the tunnel! Araknagrab starts to sit up but you jump on his head and leap over him into the cavern with the Hairgrazer!

"Hairgraaaaaazer." It seems like the Hairgrazer is even more afraid now!

You pick up the Hairgrazer and carry him out of the cavern into the tunnel! Araknagrab starts to sit up again but you jump on his head again!

The cave mouth is starting to collapse!

"Hairgraaaaaazer." You hop on Hairgrazer and he runs out of the cave as quickly as he can! You both make it out of the cave just as the cave mouth collapses!

It seems like Araknagrab got buried in the cave-in! It will probably take him a long time to dig his way back out!

"Buzzird!"

What? It's Bart's mon Buzzird! You turn around and see Bart and his men and their mons circling the herd of Hairgrazers!

Bart looks at you and says "Thanks for getting our herd of Hairgrazers out of that cave."

What? It looks like Bart and his men will get to rustle the herd of Hairgrazers after all?

All of a sudden the ground starts shaking again! It's Terrabull and Cliff! It looks like Katie and her Hairgrazer are with them too!

What? There's an old human man with them, and he's riding a big mon that looks like a giant tapir with spiky eye sockets? It must be a Taybray!

"I'm afraid your rustling days are over, Bart!" The old human man holds up a piece of paper and says "You and your men are all under arrest!"

What? The old human man is looking at you?

"I'm Nate, the sheriff of these parts. Taybray and I have been trying to catch Bart and his gang for a while. I'd like to thank you and your Ramster for helping us out." Sheriff Nate reaches into his pouch and pulls out a small sack that jingles! "You're entitled to a reward of 20 coins."

What? Is Sheriff Nate really giving you 20 coins? You had better say something!

"Thank you, Sheriff."

You take the sack! Suddenly, Katie gives you a hug! "Thanks for gettin' our Hairgrazers back, Mashi! Y'all ready for the shearin'?"

What? You forgot that Cliff and Katie were going to shear the entire herd of Hairgrazers?

It takes the entire rest of the day to shear all the Hairgrazers! You can't believe how much hair there is!

What? You're almost too tired to eat supper because you worked so hard?

You still have enough energy to eat two more servings of steamed Hamburbler!

Cliff looks across the table at you and says "Tomorrow we're headed to Copper Citadel with all the hair from the Hairgrazers."

The next morning, you all climb onto Terrabull and ride toward Copper Citadel with the sacks of Hairgrazer hair!

What? Cliff brought a guitar? It seems like he's pretty good at playing it!

What? Katie is singing along? You didn't know she could sing! It sounds pretty good!

You ride Terrabull all day and camp out on the prairie that night. Terrabull makes it to the outskirts of Copper Citadel at noon the next day.

After you climb off of Terrabull, Katie gives you another hug! "See ya later, Mashi! I hope y'all find that Professor Ginger!" Katie scratches Ramster's chin and says "And you take care of Mashi, y'hear?"

"Ram-ram!"

Cliff shakes your hand and says "I really appreciate everything you've done. We're headed to Ferropolis to sell the rest of the Hairgrazer hair, if you change your mind."

What? You're shaking your head? You really do want to try and find Professor Ginger?

"Goodbye!"

You turn around and start walking through the Copper Citadel Market! There are a lot more humans here than in Rust City! Everyone is...

I said, everyone is shouting and you can't concentrate!

Suddenly, the humans around you start shouting more than usual! It seems like something is going on!

"Wild mon! There's a wild mon on the loose!"

What? A wild mon? Are they talking about you?

You look around and see a pair of human men wearing uniforms run past you! "Watch it, kid!"

It seems like the humans are pretty upset! One of them walks up to another human and says "You know unattended mons can be confiscated! Keep a better watch on it next time!"

You don't like the sound of that!

What? You just realized that you aren't even in Copper Citadel yet and all you know is Professor Ginger's name?

You really are determined to stay in Copper Citadel, even though you're frightened! You look around at all the humans and buildings! You've never seen this many humans before in your life!

What? You don't know very much about human cities? You turn your head and look at Ramster on your shoulder!

Ramster shrugs and says "Ram-ram!" It seems like Ramster doesn't know very much about human cities either!

You start walking around the Copper Citadel Market and watch the humans. The humans on one side of the table take coins, and the humans on the other side of the table take what's on the table! It seems pretty simple! You can't wait to try it!

What? You're going to try it right now? Maybe you should watch the humans a little more!

You see a human woman hold up a blue fruit and ask the other human "How much?"

"Two coins." It seems like the fruit belongs to the human man behind the table!

The human woman can't believe it! "I can get it for half that price on the other side of town!"

"Then you better get walking!"

The human woman can't believe it! She stomps past you! "Out of my way, brat!"

Well? Are you going to try it now?

You walk up to the human man and hold up a blue fruit.

"How much?"

The human man looks at you and Ramster and says "For you? One coin."

What? The human man is going to sell it to you for only one coin? What a deal!

You give him one of your coins. You still have a lot of coins left from the reward!

"Thank you."

You take a bite of the blue fruit! It's delicious! You break off a piece and give it to Ramster.

"Ram-ram!" Ramster eats it all in one bite!

You and Ramster walk around and watch the humans. It doesn't seem like anyone is paying attention to you! A human man standing next to you says "Hello, how have you been?" Is he talking to you? You look up at him and see him standing in front of a videophone! It seems like he's talking to the human on the other end of the videophone! After he finishes talking he walks away and another human walks up to the videophone!

What? You're thinking about how to find Professor Ginger? You might be able to use a videophone to do it! It seems pretty simple to use. You just put a coin in the slot, push a button, and say the name of the human you want to see!

You see another videophone and walk toward it when suddenly a big fluffy mon that looks like a giant anteater runs up the sidewalk toward you! It's a Tamounda! Tamounda is trying to hide behind you! Is it because he knows you're a Cutémon?

"Stop that mon!" Two human men are running up the sidewalk! It looks like they're chasing the Tamounda!

"Mon Control! Get outta the way, kid! We're here to capture that unattended Tamounda!"

You look up at the human man and nod your head! It seems like he's waiting for you to say something else!

"Mon trainer."

What? The two human men are looking at each other with strange expressions on their faces? It seems like they might not believe you're really a mon trainer! You had better do something quickly!

"Rust City Arena!"

The two men look at you and then look at each other again! "What do you think?"

"I don't know, seems kind of suspicious."

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is standing on the human man's shoulder! How did he even get up there? Ramster tugs on the human man's collar! "Ram-ram!"

The other human man looks between you and Ramster and says "You've got two mons?"

"She must be in town for the tournament tomorrow." The human man looks at you and says "You had better get to your hotel room before it gets dark. This city can be a little rough at night, and there are wild mons everywhere."

Ramster hops off of the human man onto your shoulder! The two human men seem like they believe you! They both turn around and start walking the other way!

The other human man looks back at you and says "And keep those mons under control!"

You look back at the videophone. It seems like you came all this way so you should try to use it!

You reach up and put the coin into the coin slot! What? You aren't sure what to do next? It looked like the humans pushed one of the buttons!

What do you mean, which button? How many buttons could there be?

You look at the videophone again. You didn't realize it had so many buttons!

You push one of the buttons and a voice says "Name, please!"

What? It seems like it worked! You had better hurry up and say who you want to talk to!

"Professor Ginger!"

"Connecting... Please hold."

What? You're starting to get scared of talking to Professor Ginger? You crouch down and look at Ramster.

Ramster looks up at you and says "Ram-ram!" Ramster is pointing at the videophone!

"Yes, hello? Is anyone there? I can only see your baseball cap."

You stand up so Professor Ginger can see you!

"Isn't it a bit late for someone your age to be out like this?" Professor Ginger looks at Ramster and says "Your Ramster looks out of shape."

"Ram-ram!" Ramster hops up and down on your shoulder! It seems like he's pretty upset!

What? Tamounda is pulling on your ankle again?

You look down at Tamounda and he says "Tamounda!"

"Hello, are you still there? I can't see you."

Our companions back in Rust City are in trouble, and Professor Ginger is our only shot at rescuing them and figuring out what to do with the Cutecaptor. Let's make it a note to remind Ramster about them, and that we are very vulnerable without a connection in Copper Citadel. Our character is the only one between Mon Control and Tamounda, whether the latter likes it or not. Whatever Tamounda and Ramster want will have to wait for these reasons. "It's a bit late for a meeting." Professor Ginger looks at Ramster and Tamounda and then looks at you. "I don't have anything to do with mon trainers. If you're in Copper Citadel to compete in the tournament tomorrow evening, you should talk to someone at the Copper Citadel Arena."

It looks like Professor Ginger is about to hang up her videophone! You had better say something quickly!

"Wait!"

"Yes?" Professor Ginger is looking at you! "Is there something specific you wanted to discuss?"

What? You're still nervous about telling Professor Ginger about the cutécaptor? Maybe you should wait and show it to her in person! Is there something else you can say to get her attention?

"What?!" Professor Ginger can't believe it! "That slimy... of course I'll meet with you." It seems like that got Professor Ginger's attention! "According to the videophone, you're in the same district as I am. Do you know where my laboratory tower is?"

You don't know where you are! You look at Ramster! "Ram-ram!" Ramster doesn't know either! You both look down at Tamounda!

What? Tamounda is nodding his head? "Tamounda!" He takes a few steps down the sidewalk past you in the opposite direction and looks back at you! "Tamounda!" It seems like Tamounda knows where Professor Ginger lives!

You look at the videophone and nod!

"Yes."

"Alright. It shouldn't take you very long to get here. Ginger, out." Professor Ginger hangs up the videophone.

You look at Tamounda again. He looks up at you and Ramster and says "Tamounda!" and then spins around and starts trotting down the sidewalk!

You and Ramster follow Tamounda down the sidewalk. After a little while you see a tall tower in the middle of the other buildings with a small courtyard in the front of it. When you get a little closer you see a mon that looks like an antelope with two small crystal horns in front of the door! It's a Springblok!

The Springblok is standing in your way! Ramster hops off your shoulder and walks toward the Springblok and says "Ram-ram!" It seems like Ramster wants the Springblok to move out of the way!

What? The Springblok isn't moving out of the way for Ramster?

"Ram-ram!" Ramster can't believe it! Ramster jumps at the Springblok!

Our character would look like a schizo asking the narrator for help, and if our Ramster can't dent the Springblok, she'd get creamed in a direct confrontation. Let's humor the Mon for now, then pounce on him if things go south.

The answer to the riddle is a human, most likely Springblok teasing our character for her predicament. A baby crawls on four limbs, they learn to walk on two legs and do so for most of their life, and rely on a walking stick when they are elderly, hence three legs. Morning is the beginning of their life, day is the majority of it afterward, and night makes the remaining years of their life.

It seems like Professor Ginger doesn't know you helped fight Springblok! She must not have seen the fight! Professor Ginger looks at Springblok again and says "Go lie down."

Springblok walks back into the elevator. After the doors close, Professor Ginger looks at you and says "Now, what did you want to tell me about Professor Plumtree?"

What? You're not sure what to say to Professor Ginger?

Since you came here to ask her about the Cutécaptor, maybe you should show it to her!

You take the cutécaptor out of your jacket pocket and show it to Professor Ginger.

"W-what?!" Professor Ginger can't believe it! "This must be the Cutécaptor that Plumtree was boasting about." Professor Ginger holds out her hand to take the cutécaptor from you and says "Here, give it to me so I can use my computer to examine it."

You're not sure if you want to give Professor Ginger the cutécaptor! You can't help holding it tightly for a moment but then you reach out your hands and give it to her!

Professor Ginger examines the cutécaptor for a moment and then places it on a metal countertop and says "We'll see what kind of data it has." The countertop starts to glow and the cutécaptor floats up into the air!

"Ram-ram!"

"Tamounda!"

Everyone watches as Professor Ginger's machine scans the cutécaptor, and then a glowing pink light appears next to it!

"Good. I've managed to extract some useful data."

You're not sure what all this means!

"Here." Professor Ginger hands you back the cutécaptor. "Let's see what we can learn about this."

"This is definitely a Plumtree model." Professor Ginger looks at the screen closely and says "Very interesting. The cutécaptor only functions to capture and release a single Cutémon. It won't function with any other type of mon besides a Cutémon."

You look at the computer screen and then look at Professor Ginger.

"Single Cutémon?"

Professor Ginger nods. It seems like she's still looking at what the computer screen tells her! "The cutécaptor is designed to instantly form a permanent mental bond between a single human and a Cutémon. It's the same type of bond that a mon trainer would form with a mon after a long period of training. Once it's used to capture a Cutémon for the first time, it will only function for that specific human, and will only function on that specific Cutémon."

You look at Professor Ginger again.

"Capture?"

Professor Ginger is still looking at the screen. "The cutécaptor transports the Cutémon to and from a dimension that only exists inside the cutécaptor. It seems like the Cutémon can survive inside the cutécaptor dimension for an indeterminate amount of time."

What? Professor Ginger just said all that? It seems like you really can fit inside the cutécaptor!

"Hmm." It seems like Professor Ginger just noticed something! "This cutécaptor seems to be a prototype. It's missing a component. Without more information, I can't tell what the missing component does. Whatever it does, it doesn't seem to affect the device's base functionality."

You don't really know what any of that means!

Professor Ginger looks at you for a moment and asks "How did you get this?"

You don't know what to say!

Professor Ginger looks at the computer screen again and says "Either way, you should stay in my tower tonight. The streets of Copper Citadel aren't very safe after dark."

There isn't much of a choice at the moment. Professor Ginger is a professor, so we don't know if she has some kind of tech that identified our character as a Mon on the way in and she's just waiting for a moment of vulnerability. Assuming we have 8 or 9 hours of rest, these can be split equally across our character and the two other Mons to keep a subtle eye open. This will provide about 5 and a half or 6 hours respectively for each. That way, they'd get a decent amount of rest while making sure Ginger doesn't try anything. As helpful as Ginger has been, we don't know how much we can trust her yet, nor how the hell Joe knew she specifically would be interested in the cutecaptor.

As if that wasn't terrible enough, the captor only opens to the owner's genetic signature. It's clearly a security measure, but that means it's possible for a Mon to be trapped in the captor indefinitely if, say, the trainer dies or loses the captor. Mass distribution of this kind of locking mechanism and the forced mental bond would set a horrible ethical precedent and lead to an irreversible animal treatment crisis. For reference, pokeballs in the Pokemon setting don't have this kind of locking mechanism, which is how Pokemon could be stolen but also be traded, inherited, and rescued without any problems.

We have a decent enough BODY stat for the time being. The lack of literacy is beginning to impede our character in more ways than one, and it's a miracle we've been able to get her as far as we did with only three words spoken at a time. Maybe doing as suggested last thread by hanging around a library and pretending to not know the language, or have a speech disorder possibly, would be the way to go. Either way, MIND should be our next priority.

It feels like the floor is moving downward toward the ground, but only for a moment. When the door opens all you see is a hall with a few doors.

Professor Ginger shows you one of the doors and inside is a big room with a window! It even has another room with a television and a bed!

"Tamounda!" Tamounda pushes past you hops onto the bed!

"Ram-ram!" Ramster hops off your shoulder and turns on the television! It looks like they're talking about the tournament at the Copper Citadel Arena tomorrow evening!

Professor Ginger looks at Ramster and Tamounda and then looks at you and says "I'll see you in the morning."

After the door shuts you walk into the bedroom and look at Ramster and Tamounda!

"Guard!"

Ramster and Tamounda both look at you! "Ram-ram?" You pat the bed and Ramster hops up on it next to Tamounda.

"Take turns."

"Ram-ram!" Ramster lies down on the pillow! It seems like they're ready to go to sleep!

You sit on the floor and watch the television for a little while.

You look back up at Springblok.

"He's part of a pack of feral mons that live underneath Copper Citadel."

You look at Origamey again.

"Isn't it obvious, Cutémon?" You look up at Springblok. What? Springblok is looking at Tamounda? "I thought I recognized this Tamounda when you first brought him here."

Tamounda ducks behind the bed again!

"This Tamounda didn't run into you by accident. He's supposed to be leading you back to their lair. Isn't that right?"

You can't believe it! You look at Tamounda!

What? Tamounda can't look at you? It seems like he really did try to trick you!

Ramster looks up at Springblok and says "Ram-ram!" It looks like Ramster might be getting ready to challenge Springblok again! You let go of Origamey and grab Ramster!

"Ram-ram!" Ramster kicks his feet but he can't get away!

"Ori-gamey!"

Origamey escaped out the window while everyone was arguing!

He's probably hurt to a point where he should be slow enough for our character to catch again. We need more answers from Origamey about what his gang was planning to do with her hopefully nothing Plumtree tier, which likely isn't beyond Mon either unfortunately and if they were in contact with other parties. Taking him into the guest room for interrogation could potentially lead to a funny good cop bad cop scene anyway. Ramster apparently has the sunglasses to pull it off. Besides, >>5800774 is right about needing to talk with Professor Ginger more. Joe didn't suggest her specifically for no reason. "Tamounda!" Tamounda is nodding his head! It seems like he really does know where Origamey is going!

"You aren't really thinking about going after that Origamey right now, are you?" Springblok walks toward the door and looks back at you. "Professor Ginger will be up in a couple of hours."

You look out the window again and then sit back down on the bed next to Ramster. Ramster looks up at you and says "Ram-ram!" and then lies down on the pillow! He's already snoring!

When Professor Ginger wakes up, you put your baseball cap back on and Ramster hops up on your shoulder. The two of you walk out of the room and into the elevator. Tamounda starts to trot after you but stops and peeks at you from the bedroom. "Tamounda?"

You look at Tamounda!

"Come on, Tamounda!"

"Tamounda!" Tamounda trots into the elevator as quickly as he can!

What? You don't know which button to push?

You give the buttons a determined look!

...

You still don't know which button to push!

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is pointing at one of the buttons! It seems like he thinks he remembers which button to push!

You push the button and the floor starts to move upward! It seems like Ramster was right! The elevator door opens and you see Professor Ginger in her laboratory.

Professor Ginger looks at you and says "I wanted to ask you why you decided to come to me with the cutécaptor."

Are you going to tell her the truth?

"Joe."

Professor Ginger is still looking at you! It seems like she's expecting you to say something else! Well, what else do you know about Joe?

"Apple!"

You didn't mean to say that out loud!

"What? Joe Apple?" It seems like Professor Ginger recognizes Joe's name! "He's that kid who keeps writing us all the letters with questions about mons." Professor Ginger looks at you and says "I'm part of a prestigious group of mon researchers. As I said last night, you're welcome to attend the mon research conference this afternoon." Professor Ginger reaches into her labcoat and digs around. "Here, you'll need this Invitation Card if you decide to attend."

What? Professor Ginger is holding a card out to you? You had better take it!

You take the Invitation Card! You don't know what it says, but it's your ticket to the mon research conference!

You look at Tamounda.

"Come on, Tamounda!"

You and Ramster walk back toward the elevator with Tamounda behind you.

What? You don't know which button to push to get to the ground?

Tamounda licks all the buttons!

After a while you get to the ground.

You walk out into the courtyard of Professor Ginger's laboratory tower and look at Tamounda.

"Feral mon lair?"

"Tamounda!" It seems like Tamounda is eager to show you the feral mon lair! He starts trotting up the sidewalk as quickly as he can! You have to hurry to catch up to him!

You follow Tamounda through Professor Ginger's district and into a part of Copper Citadel you haven't been in before. Suddenly you turn the corner and see a huge building in front of you! Outside of the building are a lot of humans with mons! It seems like they might all be mon trainers! This must be the Copper Citadel Arena!

"Tamounda!" You look at Tamounda and he trots away from the arena and down into a ditch! "Tamounda!" It seems like Tamounda wants you to climb into the big pipe in the ditch!

You look inside the pipe. It looks really dark and gross! You look at Tamounda again.

Tamounda looks at you and says "Tamounda!"

You look inside the pipe again.

What? You're going to climb into it anyway?

You climb into the pipe and crawl for a while until you can see a light ahead of you. When you get a little closer you have to squint because the lights are so bright!

You crawl out of the pipe into a huge room full of hanging lights! In the middle of the room is a flying-type mon that looks like a floating skunk! You don't know what to call it!

"Smellapath."

What? You just heard the name Smellapath in your mind? It seems like this mon isn't a flying-type mon, it's a psychic-type mon!

"Yes, I am a psychic-type mon. And you are a Wild Cutémon who travels with a Wild Ramster. I am glad Tamounda was able to bring you here so I could meet you. I hope we will be friends."

What? Smellapath is the reason Tamounda wanted you to come here?

"Tamounda and I are friends. We have grown very strong here beneath the Copper Citadel Arena, but we cannot pretend to be human like you can. It would make us very happy if you were our friend and lived here with us."

What? Smellapath can read your mind? I had better stop talking!

You look at Smellapath!

"Joe! Torrentani! Volito!"

What? Your eyes are starting to water? You keep looking at Smellapath!

"Mashi! Booker!"

"The humans are not our friends. But we will help Torrentani and Volito if they are brought to Copper Citadel."

You look at Ramster. Ramster looks at you and says "Ram-ram!" You look at Smellapath again.

"Please, stay with us for a while. We have all the comforts of the humans."

"Ram-ram!"

It seems like Ramster likes this idea!

Suddenly, you hear human voices above you! You can't help looking up!

What? You just remembered the mon research conference in the Copper Citadel Arena is about to start?

You and Ramster climb back through the big pipe and out into the ditch. It seems like none of the humans around saw you!

"Ram-ram!" What? Ramster is pointing at the doors to the Copper Citadel Arena?

It looks like there are two human men and two mons in front of the doors! The guards look down at you when you get close to them! It's a little intimidating!

You reach into your jacket pocket and take out the Invitation Card. When the guards see the Invitation Card one of the human men smiles at you and say "Go on in, miss!"

When you get inside, another human man looks at your Invitation Card and says "Follow me, please!"

It seems like you had better follow him!

The human man leads you to a big room with a lot of humans wearing labcoats! This must be the mon research conference!

You look around and see Professor Ginger and Springblok! "I just realized I don't know your name."

What? Professor Ginger wants to know what your name is? It's a good thing you already have a fake name picked out!

"Mashi."

"Come over here, I want to introduce you to some of my colleagues."

What? Professor Ginger wants you to meet some other humans? You follow her over to one of the tables. Professor Ginger points at a young human man and a young human woman.

"These are the youngest professors attending this conference. This is Professor Moss, and Professor Cherry."

The young human woman looks at you and says "So you're Professor Ginger's new protégé."

You don't know what a Protojay is, but it sounds like a flying-type mon! You glance at your back but you don't have any wings. You don't know what Professor Cherry is talking about!

What? Why are your cheeks turning red? Is it because all the human scientists are looking at you?

"Hardly. She's a mon trainer. Where did you say you were from again?"

"Rust City Arena!"

The young human man looks at you and asks "Is this your first time in the Copper Citadel Arena?"

You nod your head at him!

"Some of us are staying for the tournament this evening. Maybe I'll see you there." What? Does Professor Moss think you and Ramster are going to fight in the tournament?

Professor Cherry looks at Professor Ginger and asks "Have you seen Professor Plumtree lately?"

"Er, what? Professor Plumtree?" Professor Ginger glances at you and says "I haven't even thought about him in months!"

"Since the beginning of recorded history, humans have been aware of the inherent power of mons. Of course it's said that the first mon trainer traveled the world teaching the secrets of mons to others and brought about a golden age of sorts, but naturally we are here to deal in facts, not legends."

What? You just noticed the huge picture of some humans and a mon on the wall behind Professor Ginger? It looks pretty old!

"With that, I'd like to introduce our featured speaker for the day, Professor Ginger." The other humans are still clapping their hands! It seems like Professor Ginger is supposed to give her speech now!

Professor Ginger walks up to the stage with Springblok and adjusts the microphone. "Thank you. During my recent expedition to the ruins east of Ferropolis, my equipment detected several potential sites that may have been overlooked by previous explorers. I plan to return to the area soon and conduct further excavations, but I believe that I will ultimately be able to prove that the ancient humans were able to develop such powerful mons by diligently applying a rigorous system of instruction and repetition."

"Your hypothesis seems to be built on shaky foundations."

What? You recognize that voice? It sounds pretty familiar! You look over at the table next to you!

It's Professor Plumtree!

Professor Ginger can't believe it! She looks at Professor Plumtree and says "My methods..."

"Are tedious and unnecessary." What? Professor Plumtree stands up from the table. All of the other humans are looking at him now! "My latest research magazine documents how it's possible to rapidly develop more powerful mons through artificial means."

Professor Plumtree starts walking toward the stage!

What? Professor Ginger is walking off the stage toward him? It looks like they might be getting ready to fight!

They meet on either side of a table near the stage!

Professor Ginger picks up a stack of magazines in front of her and tosses them on the table in front of Professor Plumtree. "We're all aware of your research magazines, as well as your proclivity for 'artistic license' when it comes to documenting species of mons."

Professor Plumtree is scooping up the magazines into a pile while he looks up at Professor Ginger! "My research might be too difficult for you to understand."

"I recently had an opportunity to examine your 'research' more closely." Professor Ginger crosses her arms. "The initial scan of your prototype cutécaptor has revealed some interesting decisions on your part."

"What?! The cutécaptor?" Professor Plumtree can't believe it! He runs his hand through his hair and asks "What is your source of this... data?"

Professor Ginger is smirking! It seems like she's enjoying herself! "I am not without my resources."

"Is that so..."

Professor Plumtree is looking around the room! You duck behind one of the other humans just as he looks in your direction!

It's a lecture of sorts and it would likely be a very high dice threshold to head away unnoticed. Plumtree is likely to recognize the front of Mashi's cap, so let's turn it backwards for now, then rotate it back forwards once the presentation is over and our character can turn away from his direction. I'd say tell Ramster to stay quiet, but he's clever enough to read the room.

What? The human man who introduced Professor Ginger steps in between her and Professor Plumtree with his hands up in the air! "There will be time for both of you to present your work during this conference." He looks at the other two humans and says "I suggest we all take a short recess."

Professor Ginger adjusts her glasses and says "Professor Basil is right."

"I look forward to it." Professor Plumtree is organizing the stack of his magazines! This might be your chance to get out of here!

Professor Ginger turns around and asks "Now where did that mon trainer go?"

What? You just bumped into something tall and furry? It's Springblok!

Springblok looks at you and then looks at Onlion. "Run."

You look at Springblok and he glances at you, and then you start running up the hallway away from them!

Onlion attacks with Bitestream!

Springblok blocks the attack!

Can't block energy attacks!


Springblok tries to block Onlion's attack with his horns but the Bitestream is too powerful! Springblok is pushed back up the hallway toward you!

You can't help crying out!

"Springblok!"

Springblok's horns are smoking! He glances back at you and says "Get out of here! I don't know how much longer I can keep blocking it!"

In case that Onlion has its camera on for Plumtree to show to anyone else behind clsoed doors, let's not use any attacks that would compromise our cover. That means no biting or hair attacks. Arm grapples, tackles, piking up the Onlion and spiking it to the ground, positioning Onlion to get bodied by Ramster, etc.

You turn around and look at Springblok again just as Onlion jumps at him! This time, Springblok almost doesn't block the attack!

What? You're really going to stay and try to fight Onlion alongside Springblok, even though you've seen how Onlion fights?

Springblok looks at you as you run back toward him! "I told you to run!"

You look at Springblok!

"Low MIND stat!"

Onlion crouches to pounce at you but when you throw Ramster over Onlion's head it gets distracted!

"Ram-ram!" Ramster jumps at Onlion!


Ramster is challenging Onlion!

Ramster attacks with Horns!

It hurts Onlion!

Onlion attacks with Megabite!

Ramster dodges out of the way!


"Ram-ram!" Ramster jumps back up onto your shoulder just as Onlion snaps its jaws shut on the ground!

Onlion spins around and jumps at you!

Springblok leaps in front of you and blocks Onlion's jaws with his horns! Onlion bites down on Springblok's head and the inside of its throat starts to glow white!

Look out! Onlion is using its Bitestream attack again!

Springblok can't block it! Springblok is thrown against the wall! He can barely move!

"Springblok!

You didn't mean to say that out loud!

Onlion turns and looks at you!

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is tugging on your shirt!

You turn and run down a hall and suddenly you come to a dead end!

"Ram-ram!" What? Ramster just hopped off your shoulder? He's climbing up into the ceiling vent above you! Ramster disappears out of sight!

It seems like Ramster just ran away and left you to fight Onlion by yourself! You don't know what to think!

Onlion takes a step toward you!

You can't help taking a step backward! You take another step backward and bump into the wall!

Onlion steps closer to you!

You can't help crying out! It seems like Onlion is going to win this fight!

Onlion takes another step closer and opens its jaws! It's right in front of you!

Suddenly, Onlion looks over its shoulder!

"Ram-ram!

"Leeee-forn!"

"Jacka-Jacka-Jacka!"

"Flay-mole!"

"Shrubba!

What? Ramster is back with a Leafhorn, a Jackdash, a Flamole, and a Shrubbaclub? It seems like he convinced some of the mons in the arena to help you out!

Onlion looks at you and then looks at the other mons! It seems like Onlion can't decide who to attack!

It seems like a strange coincidence that events are playing out like this with the context of Ginger's argument with him and I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

Hm, tough choice.
Entering the arena could help with the human alibi, but is insanely risky.
Returning to the feral mon lair could be a good place to regroup and plan, but Plumtree is bound to look for us and could ruin Smellapath's hiding spot.
Leaving Copper Citadel is the safest option, but is basically just putting things on hold and doesn't help us (unless I'm forgetting about someplace we need to go, other than saving our friends which we can't realistically do).

We'd only lead humans to Smellapath's den if we have our character flee there, and our efforts in Copper Citadel would be for naught if she leaves. Running off after this altercation would also make her look a lot more suspect in the long term and possibly mar Professor Ginger's reputation, who I might add is our biggest asset to oppose Plumtree's plans. If !notMashi stays, she'll deny Plumtree the leverage to openly pursue her by participating in the tournament, meaning it'd be a nasty look if he sends Onlion after a contestant. Furthermore, this incident would stay under wraps or, if others hear of it, look like self defense. Most importantly, for Joe's sake, she needs to show Ginger that she is reliable to associate with by not running off under dubious circumstances. Ginger needs to trust her with further communication and cooperation if our plans to rescue our buddies in Rust City and stop Plumtree's schemes are to succeed. However, once we do this, the public will be watching Big Mashi like a middling athlete in a sports league. She wouldn't reach celebrity status, but she'll have to be ready for kids asking for pictures, challenges to battle in public, requests to help with wild Mon or thugs, and other professors requesting assistance with research. We don't have to ace this tournament nor maintain a high profile going forward, but occasional participation in future competitions may be necessary to avoid government agents looking her way when a trainer sponsored by a renowned professor kicks teeth in then goes under the radar. There isn't much of a choice we have here, she has to compete tonight. Let's hope Ramster has enough energy and adrenaline to get through it.

What? A big human man behind a desk is looking down at you? It seems like he's the human in charge of registering mon trainers!

You look back up the hallway you came from and see Professor Plumtree!

You look up at the big human man and nod!

"Alright, the entry fee is 5 coins. You do have that, right?"

You take out the sack Sheriff Nate gave you and give the human five coins! It seems like he didn't think you had any money! He looks a little more friendly now!

"Are you sure you want to do this, kid? You seem pretty young to be a mon trainer."

You give the big human man a determined look!

"Alright, I guess I can register you. What's your name?"

"Mashi!"

The big human man looks at you and says "I know a kid in the Rust City Arena named Mashi! You remind me of her. My name's Phil."

What? Phil knows Mashi?

Phil looks at Ramster and asks "Is that Ramster your only competing mon? He looks a little tired."

"Ram-ram!" Ramster hops up and down on your shoulder!

"Tamounda!"

What? Tamounda is here? You don't know how he got here, but it seems like he wants to help!

Phil leans over the counter and looks at Tamounda. "Is that Tamounda yours too?"

You look at Tamounda!

Tamounda looks up at you and nods! "Tamounda!"

You look up at Phil!

"Two mons!"

Phil writes something down on a piece of paper and asks "Is this your first time fighting in the Copper Citadel Arena?"

You nod your head!

"Thought so. Since you're new, I'll explain how things work. You'll fight against three other mon trainers, one at a time. If you lose, you're out! Normally I'd say each mon trainer is allowed to enter with three mons, but it seems like you only have two mons. Prize tonight for unclassed entries is 30 coins."

Phil hands you a piece of paper and says "Well, hurry up! The tournament is about to start!"

He can spit into Waterbear's bubble so that it's sticky, loses transparency, and possibly even its shape. This shouldn't be very difficult to do, will either leave Waterbear exposed or stuck in its own fluid. Tamounda would then have the opportunity to slam into Waterbear with its body mass or stick him to his Tail for repeated slams against the floor respectively. If the roll is only okay and Tamounda is wrestling with the exposed Waterbear after taking care of the bubble, we can have Tamounda attempt to scare Waterbear into submission by showing the latter whatever the hell is underneath his furry shell, Mimikyu style. Waterbear might piss itself and leap out of the ring, which would result in a forfeit and immediately hand us the match, or freeze out of fear to give Tamounda the opportunity to attack.

What? You want my advice? Well, mon trainers usually tell their mons which attacks to use!

You look at Waterbear. It seems like he only has one tooth so he's probably not very good at biting!

You look at Tamounda!

"Tamounda! Snoot!"

Tamounda hops and says "Tamounda!" and then trots at Waterbear with his tongue hanging out! He tries to lick Waterbear but the bubble is too big and Tamounda gets his head caught inside!

"Glubounda!" Tamounda is kicking his feet but he can't get out of the bubble!

The human woman points at Waterbear and says "Waterbear! Attack with Tooth!"

"Waddabeah!" Waterbear is opening his mouth as wide as he can and swimming toward Tamounda!

What? Waterbear is opening his mouth to bite Tamounda on the nose? He bites Tamounda's nose! Even though Waterbear only has one tooth, it seems like he's pretty good at using it to attack!

[SFX: loud laughter]

What? The humans in the crowd are laughing? It seems like they think this is pretty funny! You don't think it's very funny! You don't think Tamounda thinks it's funny either!

Suddenly you hear the announcer say "It looks like Starr's Waterbear is about to sink newcomer Mashi's Tamounda!"

"Glubounda!" Tamounda starts thrashing his tail back and forth! It looks like Tamounda is stuck in the bubble! He can't get loose no matter how hard he thrashes his tail!

What? Waterbear is opening his mouth to bite Tamounda again? Waterbear starts swimming closer to Tamounda!

Tamounda thrashes his tail again! "Tamounda!" Tamounda gets free just in time and hits Waterbear with his tail as he escapes from the bubble!

"Waddabeah!" Waterbear can't believe it!

"Tamounda!" Tamounda shakes his head to dry off and looks behind him just as Waterbear starts rolling his bubble forward! Tamounda runs around in a wide circle! Waterbear can't quite catch up to him!

What? The audience is laughing again? They're not supposed to think this fight is funny!

You can't help looking at the human woman! She already has her other two mons out on the floor!

The human woman is keeping her eyes on the fight! She glances at you and says "Your mons aren't cut out for this arena, kid! Even if you beat my Waterbear you still have to get through Clambreak and Chompex! Save us both some trouble and forfeit!"

What? You just realized that your friends still have to defeat Clambreak and Chompex?

Next time he tries to use Snoot, tell him to spit, not lick; make the bubble as clouded and sticky as possible to disrupt it or have it collapse on Waterbear. Keep distance, then close in when Waterbear is vulnerable for a body check against the floor or swinging him against the floor with Tail.

Waterbear is swimming toward Tamounda again! It looks like he's about to bite Tamounda's nose!

Tamounda is paddling as quickly as he can! He flops out of the bubble onto the arena floor and runs toward you!

Tamounda hides behind you! He's still all wet!

You look at Tamounda!

"Fight?"

Tamounda looks up at you and shakes his head! "Tamounda!" A bunch of water droplets hit you when he shakes his head!

Suddenly the announcer's voice says "It seems like Mashi's Tamounda is out of the fight! She only has one mon left to bring to the table, but will her Ramster be enough to take on all three of Starr's mons?"

You wipe your face and look at Ramster!

Ramster looks at you and says "Ram-ram!" It seems like he's ready to give it all he's got, even though he's pretty tired! "Ram-ram!" Ramster hops off your shoulder and onto the arena floor!

You look at Ramster.

"Go, Ramster!"

Ramster looks up at you and nods and says "Ram-ram!"

"Waddabeah!" What? Waterbear's bubble is already here? Ramster wasn't expecting it!

Waterbear's bubble rolls over Ramster and he gets stuck inside! Ramster is kicking his legs but he's too small to escape!

"Waddabeah!" Waterbear is swimming toward Ramster! He opens his mouth and bites Ramster's head!

"Glub-glub!" Ramster can't believe it! He grabs his head and starts to sink downward!

Starr takes a step closer to the fight and says "Good job, Waterbear! You've got that Ramster on the rocks!"

Ramster is still sinking downward!

"Waddabeah!" Waterbear seems pretty pleased with himself! He's not even looking at Ramster!

What? Ramster just realized that his feet are touching the arena floor?

Waterbear looks down at Ramster and realizes Ramster's feet are touching the arena floor! "Waddabeah?"

"Glub-glub!"

Ramster launches himself at Waterbear!

Waterbear goes flying! Ramster hit Waterbear so hard that all the water splashed out of his bubble!

What? Ramster is lying on the ground? You crouch down and look at him!

"Wake up, Ramster!"

Waterbear opens his eyes and looks at Starr. "...Waddabeah?"

"Mashi's Ramster has managed to overcome Starr's Waterbear! The first victory of the night goes to the Copper Citadel Arena's newest trainer Mashi, but it's going to be a short match if her Ramster can't keep up the pace against Starr's next mon."

Starr glances at the flying-type mon that looks like an angry blue clamshell and says "Clambreak! Time to put that Ramster to bed!"

Clambreak claps its shell twice and flies toward Ramster! You had better help him!

"Look out, Ramster!"

"Ram-ram!" Ramster looks over his shoulder and tries to run away from Clambreak but he's too tired!

Clambreak claps its shell twice and clamps shut on Ramster's tail!

"Ram-ram!" Ramster can't believe it! He shakes his tail but he can't get Clambreak to let go! "Ram-ram!"

Ramster is looking at you!

I said, Ramster is looking at you!

What? You're not even looking at the fight?

Is it because you just noticed Professor Moss and Professor Cherry in the audience?

"Ram-ram!" Ramster falls down with Clambreak still clamped on his tail! He's trying to push it off with his feet! Ramster finally gets Clambreak to let go!

Clambreak flops on the ground and claps its shell twice and then flies back toward Ramster!

You look at Starr and then at the human man wearing a uniform! The human man looks at you and says "Well, kid? Seems like she's right!"

What? You're nodding your head? You had better tell the humans!

"Forfeit!"

The human man raises his hands and you hear the announcer say "Mashi forfeits! Match goes to Starr!"

"Clambreak! Pull up and take five!" Starr crosses her arms and smirks at you! "No need to wear yourself out!"

Ramster flops down on the arena floor! It looks like he's still panting!

What? You're really going to ask Starr for advice? You walk up to Starr and look up at her!

Starr looks at you and says "Huh? What do you want, kid? Match is over!"

"Advice?"

"What? You really want advice from me?" Starr can't believe it! She looks at Ramster and Tamounda. It seems like she's thinking about something! "Well, my first piece of advice is: don't ever give up, even if your opponent tells you to!"

You look at Ramster! Ramster turns his head to look at you and waves his paw and says "Ram-ram!" It seems like Ramster doesn't think much of Starr's advice!

Starr looks at Ramster. "My second piece of advice is: don't enter a tournament with tired mons!"

Suddenly you and Starr notice a human man wearing a brightly colored suit! There's a flying-type mon next to him that looks like a red snake with a head on each end! You've never seen a mon like that before!

"Don't listen to this loser, kid. Her mons couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag." What? The human man is talking to you? "Ain't that right, Ourobros?"

One of the mon's heads says "Ourosss!" and the other head says "Brosss!"

"H-hey, Donaldo! Did you come to cheer me on?" Starr is looking at the arena floor! It seems like she's pretty nervous!

"Cut the jokes, Starr. I'm here to collect the money you own to the Traders."

What? Donaldo works for the Traders? He doesn't seem to know who you are! You look down at the arena floor!

"I can't give it to you right now, but I'll pay you as soon as I win the prize tonight!" Starr glances at you and says "Hey, I already won my first match, right?"

"You've got one more day to come up with the 30 coins." Donaldo is looking at Starr's mons! It doesn't seem like Starr likes the way he's looking at them! "Maybe I should take some collateral in case you try to skip town."

Starr grabs Waterbear! "No!"

"Why would I want a loser mon like that?" Donaldo is looking at Chompex! "That Chompex looks pretty healthy!"

"Donaldo, please! I can't win the prize without Chompex!"

"Too bad, I came here to collect!"

Donaldo is looking at you! You can't help taking a step backward! "You want some advice, kid? You better not get involved with grownup business unless you're looking for trouble!" He looks at Starr. "I'll be back tomorrow for that 30 coins. Or else all three of your mons."

What? Donaldo still wants 30 coins even though you just gave him 13 coins? That doesn't seem fair!

What? You just realized Donaldo said he was going to take all three of Starr's mons if she can't pay him the 30 coins?

Starr watches Donaldo walk off the arena floor and then glances at her mons! It seems like she's pretty relieved that Donaldo didn't take any of them! Starr looks at you and says "Where did a kid like you get so much money, anyway?"

What? Starr wants to know where you got the reward money? You don't know what to say!

"Never mind." Star glances at the human man wearing a uniform. "The next match is about to start. You want some advice on being a mon trainer?"

You look at Starr and nod your head!

"Watch and learn."

What? You don't know if that's good advice? Well, either way, it seems like it's time for the next match!

Starr raises Clambreak into the air and says "Clambreak, let's sweep this tournament! Go!"

Clambreak claps its shell twice and flies out onto the arena floor!

The other mon trainer has all three of his mons ready to fight! There's a mon that looks like a yellow wolf, a mon that looks like a cat with two tails, and a mon that looks like a floating red swordfish with a shell stuck to its tail!

It seems like Starr's next opponents are going to be a Dinglow, a Cattotutayl, and a Shelldart!

It looks like the match will be pretty...

What? You just noticed that all the opponent mons are staring at you? It's probably because they know you're really a Cutémon and not a human girl!

The other human mon trainer shifts his stance and says "Shelldart, get that mon!"

Shelldart flies out onto the arena floor and looks back at the human!

Shelldart spins around in a circle! It seems a little confused!

"Cattotutayl, no!" Marvin can't believe it! "Dinglow, get that mon!"

Dinglow runs out onto the arena floor and looks at you!

Dinglow's eyes are starting to glow!

Dinglow's eyes flash and you can't see anything!

[SFX: crowd gasping]

"It looks like Marvin's Dinglow missed Starr's Clambreak completely and one of the trainers was caught in the flash!"

When your eyes start to recover you see Dinglow with his snout on the ground and his tail in the air with Clambreak clamped around the tip! Dinglow can't stand the pain! "Dingloooow!"

"Dinglow!" Marvin can't believe it!

"Marvin is out of the tournament! His mons couldn't seem to keep their concentration long enough to overcome Starr's Clambreak! Starr moves into her third match with only two mons used so far!"

Looks like this battle might be a loss. We'll have to figure out some way to hold onto the hat, otherwise the quest may finish a lot sooner than we'd want. Maybe she can weave some of the fibers of her hair with the inside surface of the hat while the fight happens. It might take some time to undo after the event, but what else can we do? If Ward plans to take the hat in front of everyone, it just has to hold long enough for people to notice he's up to something strange and get him to stop. I can't imagine they'd react too well to a kid fucking around with black magic anyway.

It's 2d100 rather than 1d100. Typically if there is a choice for each of these rolls, such as one choice with 1d100 and the other with 2d100, they don't share a Bo3. Otherwise, if both choices have the same type of roll, then they share the same Bo3. The QM may have to clarify on this one in the thread before the next update.

You run down the street toward the feral mon lair with Ramster on your shoulder! Tamounda is already running ahead of you!

When you get to the ditch you climb into the pipe as quickly as you can!

"Tamounda!" You can't see anything because it's so dark but you can hear Tamounda in front of you!

Suddenly, you hear a scary noise echoing down the pipe from behind you!

"Maaaaaaaadaver-er-er."

"You owe me a fight, Cutémon. That Smellapath can't protect you."

What? Ward knows about Smellapath and the feral mon lair?

You grab Ward and hug him as tightly as you can!

Ward is trying to pull himself away from you! He seems pretty frantic!

You close your eyes and hug Ward even more tightly!

What? You have a strange feeling in your chest? You keep hugging Ward even though his Soul Fire is burning you!

What? You just realized the flames don't hurt anymore? You open your eyes and look down! You're not burned at all! It looks like all the flames are gone! You don't know what's happening!

You look at Ward!

It seems like Ward doesn't mind being hugged by you after all!

You keep hugging Ward as tightly as you can! After a few moments Ward starts to raise his hand! Is Ward moving his hand to hug you?

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is hopping up and down inside the mouth of the big pipe! He seems pretty scared!

You and Ward let go of each other as quickly as you can and look up!

Kelsee waves at Ward and says "Kalsee!" and then crouches down and starts digging a hole in the ground! Kalsee lies down in the hole and covers herself up with dirt!

"Luuuumpshade!" Lumpshade waves at Ward and then disappears like smoke being blown away!

"Maaaaaaaadaver." Madaver looks at Ward and then starts burying itself next to Kalsee!

Ward turns his head and looks at you!

You didn't realize you were standing so close to him! You can't help taking a step backward!

What? Someone just shouted at you from the top of the ditch? You look up at the top of the ditch and see Starr, Waterbear, Clambreak, and Chompex!

"Tamounda!" What? Tamounda is here too? It seems like he's not scared of Ward!

What? You just noticed that Ward disappeared? You look around but you can't see him anywhere!

"What's the matter, you fall in? Hey, I won the match by forfeit after you and Ward took off! I guess you really are my lucky charm! I was thinking, maybe you could benefit from some more of my tutoring. Whaddya say, kid? I know a way we can win some coins if we put our mons together."

What? You're shaking your head?

Starr can't believe it! "You mean you don't care about getting rich? Then what are you gonna do?"

You're not sure what to say! You had better say something!

"Find the Traders!"

"The Traders?" Starr can't believe it! "Come on, be serious. What would a kid like you do if you found the Traders?"

You give Starr a determined look!

Starr looks at you for a moment and then crosses her arms and says "If you really want to find the Traders, I know just the place. There's a secret mon fighting club south of Ferropolis. One of the Traders always shows up to watch the fights."

What? You just remembered there's an X drawn on your travel map? You take your travel map out of your pocket and show it to Starr!

Starr looks at your travel map and nods. "That's the place. So, whaddya say, kid?"

You look at Ramster! Ramster nods and says "Ram-ram!"

You look at Tamounda! Tamounda trots around in a circle and says "Tamounda!"

What? Are you really going to try to find the Traders even though the Traders are trying to find you?

You look up at Starr.

"We're in."
