"I thought it would taste.... a lot worse." You can't help but laugh at that.
"Kinda tastes like rice with something extra, huh?" You take a swig as Junior nods his head excitedly.
"Y-Yeah! Exactly like that." You both stand there for a good while in silence. After some time, you turn to your son, only to notice he's been nursing his drink.
"Not a fan?" You give him a look. He looks somewhat bashful.
"Well, I know I said I thought it could've been w-worse... but it doesn't r-really taste great either." He looks almost disappointed. You can't really blame him. It's more cool to drink beer at that age with his own peers, so the motivation to finish the bottle isn't really there.
"You know, life is a lot like beer, Junior. Sometimes it doesn't taste very good, sometimes it goes down smooth as butter. But you gotta savor every drop." You can almost hear him rolling his eyes.
"I hope I'm not nearly as corny as y-you when I turn 50." You laugh again.
"Well, when you're as old as I am, you'll find you like being a little corny. You know, your mother talks my head off all the time about how you're growing, and how we can't really understand what must be going on in your head right now, but I do. I get it. Growing up, figuring out who you are – it's a wild ride. But you're doing great, Junior." He gives you a smile.
"Thanks, Dad."
"Seriously though, I know it can be overwhelming. You're shouldering a lot more than other kids your age, and I'm proud of you. I didn't always make the right choices when I was younger, but you've got the chance to do things different than me."
"Different how?"
"Well, you've got dreams, right? Things you want to achieve?"
"Sure." You look at him earnestly.
"Chase them. Don't let life happen to you, make it happen. And when it gets tough, take a step back, have a beer, and remember it's a marathon, not a sprint." The look on Junior's face is thoughtful, and while you're unsure if he got it, he nods his head and takes another drink. You both continue drinking for a little while longer.

You eventually send Walt Jr. to bed, and you decide it's time to turn in yourself. You see Skyler sleeping softly with her laptop still open. She must've been so tired planning and setting up the party, yet she still waited for you to come back. You close the laptop and set it on her nightstand. Climbing into bed, it doesn't take you long to drift into dreamland. You briefly think about what you'll do the next day.
