The Undersecretary (Redo) #4

Assess the situation, Amadeus. Parchments in disarray, letters from other officios, Sigian and Pugio was missing. The floor was littered with quills and spilled inkwells, not to mention just the general filth of it all, not grimes but clutters, lots of it. You hold Tanto’s shoulders and grip it tight. You meet eye to eye with her. Throne on Terra, if not for her arithmetic skills you would have replaced her.

“Where’s Pugio and Sgian?”

“P—Pugio went to speak with Anna-Murza Jek and Sigian is meeting with an astartes.”

“Why would Space Wolves chapter be here in the first place?”

“They were part of Cadia’s fall. I think both Sigian and Pugio are going to put off any decisions about the refugees.”

“Refugees?” You pull Tanto closer. “What refugees?”

“The Cadians? They came two days ago in ships and such, the Space Wolves chapter have been trying to find a place for them in Terra. I think” Tanto said with a faltering smile. “Not sure why Pugio went to speak with Jek though.”

You sit in your chair, a stiff leather that was once the cushiest leather in your office. It was real leather too, one of the most expensive thing you bought in your early years as the Undersecretary. Your office was a mess. More so your table, cluttered with parchments, data slates, and caked with a thin layer of dust.

“Is there anything else I should be aware of? Anything truly important?”

“Uh… I don’t think so.” Tanto said. “There are two million Cadians scattered inside ships and camps at major space ports, the Black Templars are here too as part of the survivors of Cadia’s fall.”

You massage your eyes then sigh. Wait. Cadia Secundus, that Feral World: Sparta. Located inside your desk’s drawer, you find the data slate in the same place. o u dusted off the screen and looked at it, not too far from Terra and surrounded plenty with other Imperial Worlds. You grab the nearest blank parchment and scribble furiously and beckon Tanto to grab it.

“Whoever is the highest ranking officer in the Cadian regiment is, send this to him immediately. Then contact— no I’ll do that myself. Throne, Magos Sam-Song better answer me.”

Tanto stood there.

“What, are you looking for a raise, get out of here go!”

“R—Right away!”

First thing first you need to start on something to keep your mind busy. But… you can’t help but feel Tanto forgot something when you asked her if there was anything important. Eh, you’re being paranoid. Tanto isn’t that stupid.
