Your high school has a tendency of doing odd field trips that are more like survivalist camps once in awhile for first year students. It's not a regular or predictable event, there have been many years where such a trip never occurs and instead the school decides to do a stereotypical one to Kyoto or some such well worn stomping ground for student field trips. Heck, there was even a year where the trip was out to Okinawa!

This year is not a lucky year for your class.

Why Hokkaido?!

When the school announced that the field trip was eight days in Hokkaido camping in a national park, disappointment and horror filled your soul. The very idea of going without modern conveniences like clean washrooms, electricity and soft beds sent shivers down your spine. Dreams of the exotic warm sands of tropical Okinawa, or petting the tame deer of Nara evaporated like a single water drop dripped into a raging fire.

Worst of all? It was supposed to be a 'digital detox' school trip to encourage person to person interaction, so no cellphones or internet except for teachers and the class president of each class group.

In this day and age?!

So now, every first year student of Kusatsu high school is on board a train heading straight towards Asahikawa. Then from Asahikawa, you'll be riding the bus to Daisetsuzan National Park.

It's a long train ride. Killing time without internet access is killing almost every student with boredom.
