AGAINST THE REPUBLIC

War has engulfed the GALACTIC REPUBLIC
Two months have passed since the CLONE ARMY captured the strategic world of GEONOSIS, but the Republic has been unable to press its advantage.

The Republic has won most of the pitched battles fought so far, but all have been at the periphery of SEPARATIST space, and at a steep cost. Already, hundreds of thousands of clone troopers and over two hundred JEDI KNIGHTS have fallen in battle.

Robbed of the initiative by the Republic’s surprise attack, the Separatists leverage their resource and manpower advantage, only committing their DROID ARMY to force the Republic into bloody, wasteful campaigns.

After a series of daring raids by independently Separatist commanders, both sides reevaluate and reposition themselves for the long war ahead…

Welcome to Star Wars: Against the Republic. This quest, as the name implies, takes place during the Clone Wars. This quest is be basically entirely Legends (i.e. from the old EU) with very little if anything taken from the canon outside the movies. Yes, this includes the 2008 The Clone Wars cartoon, which is impossible to fit into the Legends continuity. Darth Maul is dead, barring anything unforeseen, Anakin Skywalker will remain a Padawan until the middle of the war, Mandalore is CIS-aligned and is not a pacifist monarchy, Nightsisters are a minority on Dathomir which as minimal contact with the Galaxy at large, Asajj Ventress is a Rattataki, and General Grievous is both a master strategist and a serious personal threat, etc.

It's been a while since the last thread, but this one is intended to cover a lot, so I'll try to be more consistent with updates.

Seven Weeks After the Battle of Geonosis

MandalMotors, a massive corporation operated out of Mandalorian Space, conducts most of its dealings with the Separatists away from Mandalore in order to give the planet’s officially nonaligned government plausible deniability. Thanks to your previous life as a Jedi Diplomat, you’ve been sent to negotiate a deal on starfighters and shuttles for Separatist-aligned planetary and sector forces to be supplied by MandalMotors. As such, despite war raging all over the Galaxy, you’ve been stuck at least a dozen dinners, tihaar tastings, and other recreational outings with some of the heads of the company; you’ve likely spent less than three hours in official meetings.

All of that is why you find yourself, at the end of this ordeal of a fortnight, sitting on the salon deck of the To’Kursh, a hauler-turned-cruise ship that serves as the flagship of MandalMotors’ fleet. Though being the flagship of a handful of haulers and construction ships wouldn’t normally mean much, the company’s chairman, Torrin Ralh, has spared no expense turning the ship into a secondary, mobile headquarters. You watch Bonagal, the largest gas giant in the Mandalore system, crest the curve of its ninth moon, a barren rock pitted with mines after you give up on trying to meditate.

Once the flash of the Mandalore the sun fades into the dull shine of a star from its seventh orbital position, you settle back into the couch that looks out over the starboard window and screw your eyes shut, the memory of the spectacle fading in your mind’s eye as you clear your mind and reach out to the Force. Faint nothings are all you find, the way it’s been for months. Rather than the touch and direction that was present before, it’s as if all that answers your call is a thin fog, wisps of smoke that dance meaninglessly for what feels like fleeting moments, even if you’ve been meditating for hours.

It isn’t hours before the lukewarm emptiness gives way to something else, but it’s not something you had been searching or hoping for. No, it’s the blaring of the sixth sense that all of those strong in the Force, even those unaware of their connection possess. There is danger, and it is rapidly approaching you.

Opening your eyes, you come out of your meditation and inhale evenly. There’s no movement visible outside the To’Kursh, save the slow dance of Bonagal’s shepherd moons and rings, and you remain alone in the salon. But as you turn to face the bulkhead into the rest of the converted hauler’s lower deck, the ding of the distant service elevator is just barely visible to your attuned senses.

Two, no, three sets of footsteps make their way down the hallway, with two of the intruders matching their footfalls to mask their numbers, one of them walking lighter than the other. The telltale whispery humming of a repulsorcart becomes audible as the group approaches further serves to obscure their numbers, and you don’t have time to reach out and sense exactly how many there are before they come to a stop in front of the door. It’s locked from the inside, courtesy of Chairman Ralh to afford you some quiet solitude. That whoever is trying to get inside isn’t able to immediately unlock it is what makes you finally drop your hand to your lightsaber.

Raising your hand from your belt, you curl your fingers and feel at the circuits keeping the salon's heavy door locked. You wouldn't call yourself a mechanic, you can keep a starship's vital systems running but that's about it, but most doors that don't protect vaults are relatively simple, Master Trebor had shown you as much during your time together in the Outer Rim; a lightsaber stuck in the right place could force a door open or shut without issue. So finding the breaker you have to crush to jam this one closed is easy, you do it while the intruders are still several feet away from entry. There's a hiss, a crack, and a thud from the crushed wires, blown fuse, and deadbolt mechanism engaging respectively. You drop your hand, satisfied, when you hear klaxons ringing from other parts of the liner, and the yellow emergency light on the wall to your left begins flashing.

The repulsorcart crashes into the door, likely let go by whichever of the intruders was driving it when the alarm started ringing. They must be talking, but between the door, the alarm, and the distance, you can't make out a thing, not even a sound.

The salon's comm beeps briefly before you hear Torrin Ralh's worried voice. “General Tarrag, what's going on down there?” The chairman was full of swagger and confidence when negotiating with you, but now you can hear the fear of losing a key contract in his voice.

“Intruders,” you state simply, “they tried to gain access to the salon, so I disabled the door,” pausing, you note the faint sound of a plasma torch, “they're trying to gain access to the salon. Surely a dissident faction of Mandalorians were not allowed access to MandalMotors’ flagship during my visit?” You lay the guilt on thick, knowing that you can gain more out of the corporation as a result of this.

“Surely not, whoever they are, they did not gain legitimate access,” the question seemed to have caught the chairman off-guard, and you let yourself smirk despite the intruders’ continued efforts to reach you. “Security teams have been dispatched, the best MandalMotors has to offer is on their way.”

“Splendid,” your hand drifts back over your lightsaber, “we can see if your response teams are better than your perimeter security,” that doesn't get a response, but the line stays open.

Despite hearing a plasma cutter earlier, an explosion rips through the door into the hallway leading to the lounge and almost knocks you off your feet, the vibrations shaking the floor you're standing on. Dust and smoke from the corridor begin drifting into the room as you're forced to draw your lightsaber and bat away three blaster bolts carelessly shot in your direction. Now that the door is open, you can hear the shouts of the response team and the klaxon is shrill and clear, there are five intruders, the three who snuck aboard openly and two more you figure rode in, hidden, on the repulsorcart. You can't make out much more than that, them being shrouded by white smoke (from a grenade, if you had to guess) and dust from the explosion, aside from the fact that they all seem to be in Mandalorian armor, and that, while four have pistols, the last has a full-size rifle, which seems odd for an infiltration mission.

You can barely make out one of them shout “it's open!” and despite being filtered through the helmet's voice modulator and having to carry over the din of combat, you can tell that the speaker is female. Another of them, the slicer, based on the fact that they're only using one hand to shoot rather than properly aiming, jumps back into the room, assisted by the small jumppack installed on their armor.

Between the intruder's height, graceful movement, and the slight curves you can make out even with the armor, you surmise that she, also, is female. Human too, or close enough.

Her armor is cream yellow, with a nearly black padded bodysuit underneath, it's almost the typical beskar'gam, though the chestpiece is articulated at the floating ribs, likely for ease of movement. Aside from the jumppack attached to the armor's rear hardpoint, there are also hoses connecting the thigh pieces with the boots, where a set of smaller thruster ports stick out as protrusions on either side of the soles; and there's what looks like a sensor suite above the left side of her visor, a metallic rectangle dotted with lights and lenses emerging from the helmet. While the bulk of her armor is yellow, the pauldrons and vambraces are white with a scalloped pattern, and there's a black sigil you can't identify on her left pauldron.

The yellow-armored Mandalorian turns, leveling the blaster in her right hand at you while rolling a grenade out of a pouch on her thigh in her left. The smooth motion is interrupted ever so briefly before she’s able to get the barrel of her gun leveled at your chest, but she steels her resolve and announces, both through the comms in her helmet and the voice modulator, “It’s him! In here!”

I don't think throwing a grenade at a Jedi that can see you throwing the grenade is a good idea. Honestly we could just return to sender or send it to a corner of the room if they want to try to distract us by shooting at the same time. I guess it depends on whether they want to nab us or bag us. I'm wagering they're here to put us in the ground, not capture.

This is Seven Weeks After the Battle of Geonosis, while we left back last thread at Five Weeks After the Battle of Geonosis. Dooku was satisfied with the rescue of General Tann and the Decimators. But Tarrag did not answer his question about temporarily leading the group of Jedi that joined the Separatist cause. I wonder what happened. I would say nothing bad if we were dining and sweet-talking about internal affairs and politics of the CIS...

If the MM cruiser is too compromised, might as well blast away any space-barbarian between us and our shuttle. We wouldn't want Torrin Ralh and other personnel of MM to die thanks to bombs left on board, because the terrorists didn't manage to kill us close and personal.

Perhaps we can throw the repulsorcart around too for a bit of added confusion.
So, what are these? Assassins on an assassination turned suicide mission? If that's the case it's unlikely they'll surrender unless they are completely disarmed...

You realize intercepting the grenade with the Force is a mistake as soon as the enigmatic field of energy halts the explosive midair. It's not a thermal detonator, a fragmentary device, or a radiation grenade. It's a flashbang.

Blinding light and a deafening shriek momentarily render the world a white, hazy din for several seconds, but it's enough for a blaster bolt, set at nonlethal power, to take you in the bicep and knock your lightsaber free from your grasp. It doesn't take long before you're able to blink the afterimage into a mere sheen over the world, but in that time the Mandalorian with the rifle has leveled her weapon at you. Another nonlethal shot, this one much more high-energy, collides with your stomach and knocks you from your feet. You were attempting to bowl over all of the assailants with a wave of Force power, but your inability to focus as a result of the flashbanging meant that all you were able to do was dispel some of the smoke.

Rather than remain in the open as a target for the attackers, who you are now openly wondering about the motivations of, given their less-than-lethal methods so far, you roll behind a sofa, sitting against its metal backing to regain your bearings. You rub the remaining shock from your eyes vigorously with a sleeve until you're able to focus enough to see your lightsaber and recall it to your hand. That done, you pop your ears as best you can before shifting your weight forward to your knees and coming into a crouch. You wince when you do so, becoming acutely aware that your stomach is already bruising, the shot having likely cracked a false rib.

Now that you can see and hear, you perceive, still blurrily, that the squad of five attackers has retreated into the mouth of the salon, undoubtedly for better cover.

“Suppressing!” A modulated voice you haven't yet heard shouts before you hear another grenade click against the bottom of the front of the couch you're using as cover. From the low whine it's letting out, you can tell it's a sonic detonator. You let out a silent thanks that your cover is metal before covering your ears and screwing your eyes shut.

The detonation still shakes your body and you slide forward as the shockwave breaks your cover free of the floor and pushes it back nearly two meters.

The rate of fire has slowed, which means you're at a greater risk of being surrounded. So you slowly rise into a half-standing position, reactivate your lightsaber, and peek at the situation.

Besides the yellow-armored Mandalorian, the others are clad in red, indigo, orange, and pale green. They're all female, a range of heights, all near-human, considering their t-visored helmets are all the same style, and all of them have that scalloped white pattern on their pauldrons and at least one vambrace, along with the same black symbol on embossed on their shoulders.

Centering yourself, you shut out the pain from your bruises and open yourself up to the Force. Inhaling, you focus on the footsteps around you, exhaling, the gunfire and movements in the hall, on the second breath you empty yourself again, and on the third you vault over your cover and, assisted by the Force, launch into a corkscrew spin.

The maneuver is aimed to take you to your left, where three of the Mandalorians, the ones with yellow, orange, and pale green armor are. It's the orange-clad one with the rifle you make your first target, the flowing motion of your lightsaber as you spin cleaving the barrel from the condensing chamber, rendering the weapon useless. Once your feet are firmly planted on the ground you slash up with your lightsaber, aiming to either disable her with injury or blind her by destroying her visor.

“Spast!” She shouts, her voice higher than the yellow-clad slicer's and shot with a tremble of uncertainty. She's obviously not comfortable with fighting at close range, the modifications to her armor making it clear that she favors sharpshooting. Her right pauldron is thicker and squarer than her left, which hugs the contour of her bodysuit, while her right kneepad is padded in contrast to the left, which extends over her thigh and has a curved upper lip; the visor of her helmet also bulges out past the flat visage of her faceplate. Her backpack is larger than those the other you'd engaged wear, without any jetpack features. It probably has another gun, or several, along with extra gas packs for the rest of the team's weapons.

She's saved from anything but a glancing scorch against the finish of her armor by her green-clad comrade jumping in to intercept your attack. The shorter Mandalorian is a lot faster than either the slicer or the sniper, having moved before you even landed, throwing down her pistol and drawing what you know is a kal dagger and catching your blade just behind the tip, pushing your strike off-course.

“Get back Li'na!” The green warrior shoulder checks her teammate to stop any hesitation before raising her hand-length dagger to level it at your chest. She's the shortest of the group, though she makes up for it by having the most armor plating, with bands between the plates themselves and her bodysuit at the joints as well as a proper, if articulated, gorget. Her helmet is an unadorned dome with a separate faceplate, an archaic style your mind places as being in emulation of the Neo-Crusaders, while her vambraces and greaves are visibly reinforced. Unlike the rest, her armor also has faulds protecting her hips and lower back. Unusually, her gloves are the same scalloped white as the accents of her armor, and bulkier than the ones the others wear. Her pack is flatter than the orange or yellow ones’, with the handle of a beskad sticking out of the right side. Her right hand had, thankfully, just been filled with a blaster.

You easily deflect the blaster bolts, the motion bringing your blade into line with the green armored warrior's head. Again, you opt to slash across her visor, but this time she intercepts her lightsaber with… her hand.

You curse under your breath, the Force telling you that the two Mandalorians across the room are turning their attention to you, and deactivate your lightsaber. You should have known she was wearing crushgaunts, with how awkward her gloves looked, but your practical knowledge on the Mandalorians isn't as deep as your historical knowledge of them. Taking advantage of the girl in green's surprise, you step past her, planting one of your legs in the path of hers, grab the hilt of her beskad, and shove. The Mandalorian gives out a shout, but she's only able to half-turn before she awkwardly lands, elbow-first, on the floor.

Landing an elbow against the yellow-clad slicer's helmet makes you hiss in pain, but it also sends her off-balance. You're unable to follow up, though your attack makes her stumble into the doorway, where she's forced to go prone and roll to cover as a bolt of green plasma glances off her shoulder, scoring the sigil off of the white plate. The reason why you're unable to attack is because you have to spin and deflect a shot from a heavy blaster pistol courtesy of the red armored Mandalorian. The deflected bolt forces her indigo armored comrade to hop away from her, and you knock the pistol away with the beskad you just snatched, throwing the heavy blade with a perfect horizontal spin. Cursing in Mando'a, the attacker in red readies a grenade, another flashbang considering how similar it looks to the first one used, but the one in indigo tells her in a strong, clear voice “No.”

You duck a blaster bolt courtesy of the indigo-clad assailant, slicing the pistol the orange-clad girl, the last one standing on this side of the room tries to draw in half at the condensing chamber, bursting in a spray of smoke and sparks. The attacker you’re engaged with lets out an ‘eep’, and starts to lose the footing she only just regained.

A backhand jab with your lightsaber forces your green-armored foe to fall flat on her stomach to avoid being skewered, before she rolls away from you to hug the wall, blaster bolts impacting the wall behind where she was, a sign that the MandalMotors team is steadily advancing. You transition the stab into an overhand slash, forcing the orange armored girl to trip over your extended leg and bounce her head off the wall, allowing you to dance behind her and giving you a window to strike at her, take her hostage, or focus on the intruders on the other side of the room.

The girl in orange cries out as your blade, several shades darker than her near-pastel armor, finds the thin gap between the armor over her thighs and the kneepad that protects that joint. You don’t let up, deflecting a shot from a blaster that may even be dialed up to fatal into the back of her shoulder, the angle taking her into an awkward spin that sees her bounce her head off the floor once with another pained cry, then go silent with the second bounce, before sliding against the well-stocked bar counter in the center of the room that’s already been riddled with blaster fire from the MandalMotors security team.

“Chaos-damned Jedi—” Indigo draws a flat, chrome weapon from behind her back as she curses you, its grip an awkward lunate shape behind where the half circles that make up its body meet, in the negative space where the barrel ends. It doesn’t look like any blaster you’ve ever seen, but it could be a sonic weapon, a favored implement of Jedi hunters. In the same motion, she draws a grenade from behind her back, an actual thermal detonator this time. You glance at the windows of the To’Kursh’s salon deck, they’re thick, but a thermal detonator dialed to anything above one of the lowest possible settings will easily shatter them, and if that explosion doesn’t kill you, the vacuum of space will.

Wheel-kicking the yellow-armored slicer in the ribs, where the edges of two plates of beskar meet, you turn to shove her indigo-wearing teammate off-balance with the Force, hoping to stop her from utilizing the high explosive within the cramped space. But the close-combat junkie in green strikes at you with an open-hand stab, forcing you to fend her off with a vertical lightsaber guard, lest she shatter your forearm with her crushgaunts.

Fortunately for you (and your assailants), but most unfortunately for the ship’s security team, the seeming leader of the attackers throws the grenade in a perfect arc to land at the rear of your backup, causing an explosion that rocks the whole ship and throws two of the blue-vested, half-dome helmeted into the salon, battered but unconscious.

“Kriff’s sake, Callibyne!” You hear the red-clad Mandalorian shout through ringing ears, “are you trying to deafen me?”

“You’re all too unprofessional,” Callibyne, in indigo, hisses back.

“I wasn’t the one who got us detected,” the red-clad girl, the tallest, counters. She has to duck a shot from your yellow-armored foe, one that you had weaved out of the way of as you were forced to focus on the unarmed/knife assault of the Mandalorian in green armor. “You were the one who made us come here, all pissed off!”

“Enough talk,” Callibyne primes the strange weapon in her left hand, sliding back something on the top with her right index finger before the gun lets out a quiet whine that turns into a low hum. You barely have time to jump back before it barks a report, sending a spray of pellets at your side of the room.

Though you manage to dodge the spread completely, your melee opponent hadn’t been so lucky, instead having her armor peppered by the slugthrower’s projectiles. She mutters a curse under her breath, clearly not happy about the chips in the enamel that colors her armor, and even less happy about the divot less than a millimeter from her visor. The most professional of the five though, she doesn’t voice her complaint at her commander, instead drawing a heavy pistol- its grip modified to accommodate her chosen handwear- and squeezing a shot off at you.

In one motion, you deflect the shot into the ceiling, turn one sent at you courtesy of the red-clad girl back at her, forcing her to dodge toward the door of the salon, and sever the barrel from her yellow-armored comrade’s pistol, effectively disarming her.

“Oh,” her tone is dejected, like a child who’s been told the line for an amusement park ride is full because the park is about to close, “sithspit,” the swear barely comes out as one, as if she’s accepted her fate. Rolling your wrist, you smash out her visor with the shallowest tap possible, though she still reacts like you’ve driven your lightsaber a centimeter through her face. “I’m blind! I’m bli- eck” the noise is a result of you circling behind her and grabbing her by the back of the neck, interposing her between you and her indigo and green-clad squadmates. Both are dissuaded from firing on you for the moment, but you shortly throw her into the middle of the room like a bartender ejecting an ornery drunk. A slash across her back takes out her jumppack, and the backswing deflects a blaster bolt from the girl in red that forces the one in indigo to abort shooting at you again with her slugthrower.

Deflecting a shot from the assailant in green nearly costs you, however, as the more powerful pistol she carries knocks your blade down lower than you anticipated, leaving your chest open to either of the Mandalorians on the other side of the room.

Time slows as your perception stretches out. Indigo is raising her slugthrower, again priming it with her right forefinger; green is lowering her blaster, a minute turn of her head indicating her focus is shifting; red is seemingly lining up for a shot on your center of mass as well, before her head jerks quickly to the jammed-open door. Three members of the security team step through, the one that takes point ducks and rolls to your side, he’s breathing heavily and somewhat scorched, though he appears uninjured. The second moves in in a low crouch, sweeping the room from his right to his left, he trades a shot with the girl in green, both miss; he looks the cleanest, likely not part of the initial fight. The third enters standing, sans-helmet, and has a bloody burn above his right ear. Red aims her blaster at him, but hesitates.

Her hesitation is not matched, time goes back to normal as the second and third members of the security team in unload three, six, ten, and then more stun shots into the red-armored girl, who goes down in a convulsing pile. The first, then fourth when he arrives, security personnel fire their own rings of blue at the girl in green, who vaults the bar and the couch to end up in the same position you started this fight in.

Seeing the writing on the wall, indigo, the leader, shifts her target from you to the windows, and squeezes the trigger of her slugthrower. The strange, flat weapon bucks wildly as it lets loose a barrage of scattershot. The window she’s aimed at, rated for external forces rather than internal, gives way after the seventh shot, cracking on the fifth.

Atmosphere rushes out, drawn by the infinite negative pressure of space, and you have to use the Force to adhere to the deck beneath your feet. The members of the security team aren’t so lucky, grabbing at the walls or digging their heels in as best they can to avoid being sucked out. One poor sap even holds his breath, you can see his nose start to bleed. The red and orange-armored girls, both unconscious, start to slide as the violent air current shoves their limp forms. Yellow has curled up into a ball, you figure her boots are magnetized, so she’s hugging her knees with her eyes squeezed shut to do her best to mitigate any damage. Green doesn’t appear from behind the couch, likely also magnetized but probably cursing her luck. Indigo leaps into the air, kicks off the wall, and is free of the ship before, after what feels like minutes but which was certainly under three seconds, the emergency shutter slams shut, restoring the To’Kursh’s observation deck to equilibrium.

As you spit out a wad of phlegm that was congealed by the change in pressure, one of the security team, some kind of officer based on the gold bands on his upper sleeves, enters the room to take command of the situation. “You there, behind the bar, stand up slowly! Remove the gaunts and your helmet, then keep your hands up!” Not yet deactivating your lightsaber, you nod to the slicer on the floor, who remains motionless. “And you on the floor, helmet off then hands behind your head!”

“Yessir,” the second addressee assents, her voice small. She quickly pulls off her damaged helmet, revealing short, light blonde hair in a bob cut, the fringe at the back and a streak in front dyed pink. Her eyes are big, soft, brown, and surrounded by soot from your lightsaber shorting out her visor. Pouty pink lips and a small nose complete the look of a girl who should most certainly not be running with a merc company, even if she is a Mandalorian. She’s probably not even out of her teens. Once her helmet is off, she knits her fingers behind the back of her head, crosses her ankles, and lays still, almost as if she’s been arrested before.

Her friend in green complies slower, standing up at the same time as her unconscious and incapacitated teammates are being hauled to their feet and cuffed, respectively. With her hands up, she slowly reaches one hand across to the opposite wrist, undoing the seal on one crushgaunt before doing the same on the other side. After slipping off the mechanically-enhanced gloves and letting them fall to the floor, she reaches up and undoes the seal of her helmet, pulling it up and off before letting it, too fall to the floor with a clatter. She’s older than the other conscious Mandalorian by a few years, likely around your age, and her pretty features are marred by a very displeased scowl. Freckles dot her cheeks and slightly upturned nose, and her eyes are clear blue, framed by long lashes several shades darker than her hair. Her hair is the most striking thing about her, one would figure that, if someone was a close-in fighter who was stuck in a helmet most of the time, that someone would keep their hair short, the way the yellow-armored girl does. But when she removed her helmet, the green-clad warrior’s red hair, a sheen present even in the dimmed lighting of the ship’s alert state, fell in a braid past her knees, close to her ankles.

“I surrender,” the older of the two says, her voice not as high as the younger’s, and with a slight nasal tone without the filtration of her helmet.

Torrin Rahl rushes into the salon as two members of the security team cross the room to take the redheaded Mandalorian into custody. The chairman is red and sweating, his mustache twitching as he mutters something incomprehensible under his breath. “General Tarrag, my greatest apologies, they snuck in as a scheduled maintenance shift, their clearances were in order, we had no way of—” he cuts himself off before you can do it, dumbstruck when he sees the insignia and patterning on the white pieces of the girls’ armor. “Mythosaur’s Bones,” an archaic Mandalorian interjection, you’d be amused if you hadn’t just been forced to fight for your life.

“One got away,” you inform him as he remains silent for a moment, “there were five who attacked me.”

He nods, “yes, yes, that’s how they do it.” Torrin Rahl is a breathing heavily for a man who, although in his sixties, is quite fit and still carries himself as a soldier. You don’t need the Force to see that he’s more flustered than exhausted.

“Does he need to?” The target of his ire says with a scoff. “He knows I’m with the Angels, he doesn’t need to know every job we run. That’s basic opsec, Rahl.”

“Kehywar Ordo, that is not what I meant,” he takes the tone of a teacher berating a disobedient pupil, and you raise an eyebrow. “The stance of Clan Ordo aligns with MandalMotor’s interests, you know that. So what is this?”

She tips her head toward you once she’s brought closer to yourself and the chairman, her teammates are being carried out one-by-one, and you turn to see that the lift at the end of the hall has been disabled, forcing the security team to take the long way. “Callibyne, she wants his head.”

“I can see that,” you can’t help but be somewhat bemused, trying to imagine why a Mandalorian girl would be after you so fervently. “And she wanted it herself, that’s why the rest of you were set to nonlethal, why?”

Kehywar shrugs, “she says that a Jedi killed her sister. Said that she had it on pretty good authority that that Jedi was you.”

No doubt part of the reason Count Dooku assigned you this mission was because of your tenuous relationship with the last man to hold the title of Mandalore, leader of the eponymous culture. “Yes, the late Mandalore,” you echo with a nod, “if anything, I should be the one out for vengeance, he killed my master, you know?”

“I wouldn’t,” Kehywar says blandly, “never even saw a live holo of the man, he was kind of out of the picture while we were coming up. And like Polishing Brush here—” the chairman cuffs her ear for the nickname, earning him a smoldering look, “—like the chairman,” she places sarcastic emphasis on the corporate title, “said, we never had anything to do with Death Watch. It’s all personal. Well, personal with Calli, I have no hard feelings. She never even told us the name we were seeking vengeance for.”

That’s odd, but you leave it at that as the security personnel lead her out of the salon.

“General, I—” you raise a hand to preempt any more rationalizing or blubbering from the Mandalorian businessman you’re left alone with in the room.

“I understand, chairman. However, this does alter my stance on the negotiations,” steepling your fingers, you look down at the graying businessman.

Resolving or helping resolving a problem for the wide CIS military sound like a pretty good thing to have in the now. I am tempted to get our own assets out of it, simply for have more forces than the standard that is given by the CIS military. Or cash which is always nice. Political favor maybe, but i don't think we can do lot of waves with this incident, some. But it needs more work to go beyond that.

A Clan is pretty good. Its the political equivalent of a noble house joining the separatists, it brings a little something on the war table and creates CIS influence on his own in the Mandalorian Sector. The mercs are okay, piece of irons mostly raw. They need to be reforged thought for be of use, and like one said, the green colored one loyalty is doubtful at best with employment offered.

Have some countermeasures prepared in case she decides to try a direct infiltration and attack of the Long Haul for example. This will also help us against similar Republic units. I don't think shes is anything more than a weapon, maybe with a vendetta against us, but she is the weapon of someone else. Someone in the CIS, maybe in the Republic.

I can't help but notice "Indigo"/Callibyne and "Red" sat back on the other side of the room while "Orange", "Yellow", and especially "Green" took the brunt of the attacks. Had the team been any more "professional" a number of them would've died. Had they been REALLY professional then they might have succeeded. Callibyne likely knew that going in.

You hadn’t dallied in Mandalorian space after ironing out a deal with his company’s chairman and seeing to it that your assailants were released under careful instructions, and you had been back in command of your naval detachment for more than a week. Currently, you were in your ready room, directly underneath the battlecarrier’s bridge, after several hours reviewing the fleet composition and battle plans for the upcoming operation you were to take part in (which you would be refreshing yourself on after the respite that was making business calls), you took something of a break to make and receive several holocalls. First, naturally, was Count Dooku, who, busy as ever, merely congratulated you on your work in Mandalorian Space before asking about your thoughts working under as a subordinate commander for the first time.

It wasn’t a surprise to you that you weren’t the overall commander of the planned assault on and blockade of the Quellor System, the fleet assembled was massive, nearly an entire front amassed under one of the Vice Marshals that served in the day-to-day command of the forces directly under the Separatist Council (the members of which were full Marshals). Your feelings regarding the fact that the overall commander would be, according to rumblings from upjumped sector and system defense force officers and even Sev’rance Tann, a corporate stooge, were mostly skeptical, and you had expressed as much to the Count. He offered vague assurances that Admiral Pors Tonith, said overall commander, was battle-tested and would not fail him. You would believe that when you saw it, as intel was reporting that the officer leading the defense of Quellor was none other than Yuv Garg, Ranger-General of the Antarian Rangers.

And the Houk General would be particularly motivated to win the day, as Antar 4, the homeworld of the Antarian Rangers, was under interdict by the Separatist Navy, the rest of the system firmly under CIS control. Even with the fleet that had amassed in the Antar system, you had a feeling that the Banking Clan Admiral, and indeed the whole fleet, was facing an uphill battle.

“And you plan to outfit divisions in the Rim first?” You asked the pinch-faced, graying Mandalorian’s holo. Unlike Torrin Ralh, you could not glean that the man had ever been a warrior just from looking at him, and his conduct was similarly civilian.

You hold up a hand, assenting to the disconnection. The holo briefly blurs into static before blinking out entirely, and the light indicating an outgoing call on the suite of buttons underneath the large emitter in front of your chair begins languidly blinking blue.

It takes over a minute before the call is either connected or accepted, you have no way of knowing which it is, though you’re happy to note the lack of latency thanks to all of the hypernet buoys being along Separatist-controlled hyperlanes. Unlike the last, or any of the other calls you’ve made today, for that matter, both participants are seated. You raise an eyebrow, though that’s the only indication you give of the situation being out of the ordinary.

Kehywar Ordo sits reclined, the awkward angle of the perspective on her betraying the fact that, unlike you, she’s not in a designated holosuite, with her helmet in her lap and her braid thrown across her shoulders, looping twice around her thin neck. “I’m not saluting you,” she says blandly, drumming an index finger against her helmet. The sound is, thankfully, filtered out by your speaker system.

“I don’t expect you to,” you tell her, turning up your hands, “that wasn’t the nature of our agreement.”

The Mandalorian rolls her eyes, “from the other side of a force field, it was more of an ultimatum.”

“Not for you, from what Chairman Ralh said,” you shrug. As it turned out (as you guessed, when you heard the executive use her surname), the melee-favoring Mandalorian girl is close kin to Lornus Ordo, the head of Clan Ordo.

The force assembled to drive down at Quellor from the Nanth’ri Corridor is massive, and preliminary reports indicate that the Republic’s assembled defense force is nearly as large. Admiral Tonith was rather pleased that he would be conducting what, as far as anyone could tell, would be the largest battle of the War yet. The Separatist fleet would be split into five battlegroups, four largely equal, with a fifth, smaller formation held in reserve a hyperjump away. Rather do A because it's the simplest one to handle looking at how the first space battle went kek but I feel like B will have the most impact on the battle. At least that's what my gut tells me, despite C being the ACTION choice that should have the battle resting on its shoulders.

The fleet, amassed and ready, prepares to jump down the Nanth’ri Corridor after arraying into the individual sub-commanders’ chosen formations. While each of the commanders are nominally rather independent, you’ve still been assigned certain roles by Admiral Tonith. Your command, the Shield, is to serve as a diversionary force to draw fire from the Republic’s defense fleet and soak it up by relying on the outsized shield capacity of your Munificents and the cheap nature of droid starfighters. To your right will be fellow Lieutenant General Sev’rance Tann’s Spearhead, where the Recusants have been concentrated to serve as a battering ram to break through the Republic’s mainline and threaten Quellor to force a retreat. To her right is the human Major General Calli Trilm’s Saber, built around a core of screens and pickets, which will harry the Republic’s fighter wings, which likely harbor the majority of the Antarian Rangers present.

While you know Sev’rance Tann, Dooku’s Chiss protege who you had to rescue from Bothan Space as a result of her bungled escape from the Republic in an attempt to finish the Decimator Project, Calli Trilm was previously unknown to you, as was Pors Tonith. Trilm didn’t have much of a history, she was previously a private security officer in the Corporate Sector, and is relatively young for her rank, without the Jedi experience you have. Apparently, she was part of the informal retinue that had gathered around Count Dooku during the Separatist Crisis, and had been promoted by his influence. Your only meetings with her so far had been over hologram and in a conference call, but as far as you could tell she was competent enough. Tonith is more of a mystery, if he were human he would be elderly, but as a Muun, he’s in his middle years. Originally a financier for the InterGalactic Banking Clan, he took to collections several years ago, quickly rising in that branch of the company before becoming one of the megacorporation’s major contributions to the Separatist officer pool. The last officer, Commodore Droglue, is a Geonosian you need a translator to communicate with, and was leading the reserve detachment a hyperjump away. Admiral Tonith himself has command of the main Separatist force in-system, meant to reinforce whichever arm of the fleet requires it.

Ideally we could use a massive fighter swarm to force them to try and take out the carriers, but it might also make them turtle up. Which isn't as much of a problem for the Spearhead since they want to get into a big fight but it sucks for Saber, since there will be fewer openings to exploit. We just can't overextend since we'll be needed to provide cover for our own gaps.

Some thoughts. Our role is to be a diversion, taking the bevy of republic fire upon ourselves.

A - Playing cautious diversion. Seems too cautious for me, as our job is to divert, though keeping our munificents back can mean we are able to reposition them to reinforce others. That is not really our role though.

B - Keep the Lucrehulks back and the munificents forward. Appears to be more in-line with our stated role, driving the republic into a bog with us.

C - Playing aggressive diversion. Definitely gets the Republics attention, and could help obfuscate the purpose of the other tactical groups. It does however leave us less able to defend the rest of the fleet, should we need to, as our ships will be maximally engaged.

I am drawn to either B or C personally. The shield group is meant to draw the republic ships away from the centre, so would there be a good way of doing that?
