NTA you responded to, but nonetheless, I just think that TLG has gotten way too comfortable with the consistent inflow of normie-buxx ever since the pandemic. To be honest though, signs of wider mainstream appeal were apparent immediately following the theatrical release of The Lego Movie. I just wish they didn't completely neglect their original fans by ignoring, as you outlined, the low-to-moderate range of sets, and only ever churning out excessively colossal models that are overpriced even at that scale.

However, I do think they are due for a market correction relatively soon, seeing as competition has only gotten better in the recent years and at much more affordable pricepoints. Seeing as people are struggling to afford basic necessities nowadays, complacency on TLG's part is that much more risky, because no only are they going to face increasingly fiercer competition, they are simply going to become a non-factor for people with a tighter expendable income; Lego worked towards re-branding itself as a luxury brand, and luxury items are typically the first thing people eliminate on their list during times of crisis.

You’re right about them being culturally disconnected from such things. I swear they could find an abandoned Ford GT40 in a field and all they would see is the scrap metal value. But some mother has to put their kids Lego in a bag of old toys and toss them out before the gypsies even see them. Luckily for me they dump out the bag take what they assume they can resell and leave the Lego on the ground for me to pick up.

If you get this for 100 bucks, it's going to feel expensive. But I guess okay by today's ridiculous standards, but no, this is unfortunately a big pass when it comes to recommending it. I can't recommend it to anybody unless you are really just rich and you love its compact size or you love the figures and the look of it, not just the figures. Please don't buy it just for the figures. Don't do that. No, it ruins the whole market. Don't

I disagree. I think they can be successful and do little battle packs equivalent sets to pair with the big expensive stuff. There is no reason we don’t have a LOTR fellowship protagonist “battlepack” and an Uruk-hai battlepack. If you want like specific side characters to be special keep those in the fuck you $500+ tax+tip sets. Poorfags but lego too and lego is completely missing out on the impulse buy set market for all of these themes

Maaaayyybeee they could do a tiny Star Trek set with a couple characters, and people would still want THE ENTERPRISE big set. I could see that working alright

but the main reason is to force the FOMO. you don't get Link & Zelda without paying. pay piggy pay. Maybe you'll get a keychain in 5 years. enjoy the hole in the head and the struggle to remove the metal pin crammed through the glued-together minifig. at least you'll kinda have one.
