tldr; MASK is a beloved 1980s Kenner action cartoon and toy line that was meant to compete with GI Joe and Transformers after Star Wars went dormant, featuring heroes and villains who use specialized helmets powered by sci-fi tech mixed with ancient mysticism, and pilot signature vehicles that can transform. Power Rangers didn't start with Warden. Hasbro took him off Transformers to try and save Lightening Collection, but it was a sunk cost. Hasbro farmed PR to both Super7 and Playmates, and the primary consistency was that people only care about stuff from the first few seasons of MMPR, and Lightening Collection wasted a lot of time with other Ranger teams instead of monsters and characters for MMPR. Super7 did Bulk and Skull, when they should have been Hasbro figures.

Kind of funny watching Ramen preemptively accuse Loyal Subjects of making a bootleg of their Shark design after literally making a bootleg Thunderhawk.

While Ramen's Great White is a solid effort there's room for improvement. Some of the transformation features on it are less than intuitive and have led to people breaking theirs since they didn't follow the instructions, which is not a problem that the original MASK toys had. It also relies on partsformer pieces which is not something the original line would have done, either. Lastly, Gloria has to swap heads to use her mask, which is understandable since they were going for a cartoon accurate look, but they also left her face unpainted to be toy accurate, which seems a little bit confused to me. The hypothetical Loyal Subjects Gloria will have a wearable helmet and painted face, that much I can basically guarantee.

That does look like a worthwhile upgrade. The Loyal Subjects version is an accurate re-creation of how the original toy was although this is a good "what could have been" version. I could see myself picking one up.

That does, of course, depend on how they actually plan on selling it. If we'll be able to buy it for a couple bucks on a blister card that'd be a no brainer. If he's a pack in with another bootleg vehicle that we're going to get a Loyal Subjects version of anyway, then that would probably be a pass.

Ramen is working on a 1/12 version of KITT from Knight Rider but they have already said it's only going to happen if they can get the license from Universal, because unlike a lot of other companies whose IP Ramen have ripped off, Universal might actually move to protect theirs if Ramen doesn't go through the proper channels. And Knight Rider cars are not actually a difficult license to get, but Ramen they go around trying to start fights with licensees of other IPs while producing unauthorized toys of licenses that they don't have, it's not a good look to license holders. I very much want that 1/12 scale KITT but Ramen should probably move away from making bootlegs if they want to do more legitimately licensed toys, let alone starting fights with people who actually paid to use the IP that they're ripping off.

By the way Ramen toys have 1/12 scale Visionaries figures coming soon a line that is constantly asked for by fans but Hasbro refuse to make. Ace said he tried to get the license but Hasbro told him to no, so guess what I'm gonna be buying bootleg Visionaries figures from Ramen, fuck Hascunts.

If TLS' Mask releases were cheaper you could argue they're targeting a different demo by way of price point. Think of Playmates' handling of TMNT. Yet every TLS Mask set is upwards of 50-60 bucks at the cheapest. At that point you might aswell cherry pick from both companies.

I agree. Ramen is at its strongest when they are serving an underserved part of the market. The idea of trying to beat the big brands on their own turf by using their IP without permission is not only legally dangerous, it's not going to work in the long run. Is Ramen's He-Man really going to be so much better than the Mattel ones that someone will pay three times as much for it, especially when they already have multiple official options to choose from?

I think Ramen has a lot going for them, and I put in a big order from them just recently, but they're going to get themselves dogged in legal troubles going forward. I know they do some actual licensed stuff but those deals are going to start showing up less and less if they get a reputation of just stealing your IP if they can't license it, and if they piss off enough companies they are gonna get raked through the courts, which I think would be better for everyone if it did not happen.

If they have the ability to make a decent 30POA figure there's plenty of abandoned IPs they could be going for that are underserved for the amount of demand there is. That applies to some of the other stuff they've been trying to muscle their way into-- MASK already has an official revival going on, but what about Dino Riders? Mattel is never going to bring back Dino Riders as long as Jurassic Park still makes money for them, so you'd think that's a perfect IP for Ramen to go for without having any legal problems, and it's even in the same scale as MASK. The same could be said for Starcom, which was made through a licensing partnership with NASA and is basically doomed to be in a copyright black hole for the rest of eternity, so a company that plays fast and loose with licensing rules would be its best hope.

But yeah, I guess someone out there is really desperate for a very specific He-man that is not quite the same as the He-men that are already available.

It's reiminiscent of how every 3P TF company makes Megatron, Optimus, Bee, Starscream, etc but nobody touches deepcut randos like Savage Nobel, HB accurate Gobots, or Macross Jetfire. How many variations of the same 6 to 8 guys can you concievably sell y'know? Atleast a company like CT Toys puts in some elbow grease to get import quality comic variants of popular capeshitters made.

Dino Riders and Starcom are picture perfect examples of the sort of vacancies they should be rushing to capitalize on. Given the resources and social media prescence they have they could even showcase a few random choices, maybe some rough prototypes based off random properties, and get a sense for what they should pivot to next. I really think a 3P Small Soldiers line would do gangbusters for instance.

Piss off. Warden has experience. The toy industry is old enough they can learn from examples. That's no excuse. You can tell Warden barely tries. He's probably still pissed at Hasbro & might be sabotaging brands. He got stuck with other Hasbro stuff to get MASK & puts no effort into them whatsoever. It's also a round of "blame the tariffs" when companies had a fucking year to prepare for the demented man's bullshit.

I'd be surprised if wave 2 happens. The stress marks on the very few hard copies we've seen are pretty bad.

The Jem doll has a heavy, articulated body, losds of accessories, a music-playing stand, etc. $30. Even the "tariffs, we swear" markups coming, while they suck, are still a load better than the shit Mattel wants $55 for that has few accessories(people bitching about $45 for a Kimber that has instrument, stand, extras when they flocked to pay $55 for a She-Ra that just had a sword). The MASK prices seem inflated because they assume high sales & fucked the consumer over to make bank. I worry ehen final copies ship the QC will be ass & damage the brand.

Why they even forced Warden on the doll line instead of someone who would have cared is beyond me. Well, not that Haasbro can find anyone... that weord "remastered" Jem album? Youd expect them to hire an actual band, right? Nope. Just some amateur with a synthesizer to cover the music, and a 60-something year old singer from the 80s toon to re-record the vocals. And it got barely any press(I saw it in the Google news tab once, buried under the 40 Hatsune Miku news articles they post weekly). It's weird, if Hasbro didn't want to revive the brand why are they doing anything this lazy at all?

The costs Ramen have are mostly because they have to offset the smaller quantities they're moving. They don't pay for the license so if anything that should be a way in which they pass a savings onto consumers, but if they were moving that kind of volume they'd probably get into a lot more trouble with the people whose IP they're using without permission.

I got my Ramen Shark today. It's good all around, although some of the spring mechanisms are a little over sensitive. Also, Gloria's helmet doesn't fit very tight over the ball and I might need to tighten it a bit somehow. Overall a good showing, albeit I think Loyal Subjects is going to have a much fairer price.

The front fins are spring loaded althouigh they do come with one cheat to make them go all the way to the windshield like the cartoon, which is extra display pieces that clip onto the bottom. The transformation features are overall pretty good although that is one place where I hope Loyal Subjects can improve upon it if and when they do their version. The ramen version still looks pretty good even if you don't add the extra "partsformer" pieces although not as cartoon accurate.
