Wear and tear on a figure is expected of a childs toy played with by a child, but if you're looking into collectibles durability should absolutely be a thing. This is why diecast and chrome are terrible. They cause what should normally be a sturdy plastic figure to have massive points of failure or obvious degradation. Anyone remember MP Megs with his "cosmic rust"? All of the paint shedding from the more painted figures? Etc.
Cast a figure in appropriate colored plastic, use good quality metallic paints, but not chrome, never use diecast at all, don't use rubbery plastic or silicone, etc. And a figure will last decades, easily. Especially if cared for properly.
