Got myself the HW Premium R32. I know it probably isn't 1:1 to Nakazato's from Initial D but it's close enough. Even though Nakazato isn't my favorite character, his R32 is one of my top 3 cars from the series.

Exclusives always have some appeal, but honestly I think the red is the weakest deco on that casting.

I'm particularly fond of the rear tampos on this little Alpha Romeo. Also both it and the Lotus have tailpipes that are molded as part of the interior piece and they stick out through the baseplate. I can't recall ever seeing that before

sometimes a casting peaks with its original deco. Can't think of another instance off the top of my head, but I know I've definitely hunted down some superior first editions on ebay after buying a ho-hum repaint.

pic unrelated. I somehow wound up with three of this 32 Ford despite never actually wanting it. One was part of a lot on ebay, one was in a 5 pack, and one was free from an ebay seller who sent me the wrong thing, lol. It's not a bad little hot rod, though.

One of my favorite cars right now has to be this Ford Escort. It was the only Ultra Hot on the pegs last time I went hunting, but it just appeals to me in a way I can't quite describe. It's got a nice wide stance and the head/tail light tampos are spot on and I just wanna carry it with me everywhere.

Oh yeah the Triumph is cool, too.

I'm on the lookout for the latest Custom Civic almost exactly because I think it pulls off the look the best of that casting's decos.

Yeah I love mismatched wheels, but I never saw any of the red or green volvos on the pegs, sadly. I like whatever the fuck these are on this white one I got in a euro-themed multi-pack. I don't think I've ever seen them before. Looks like they'd be real good for cyberpunk cars. They'd probably look great on the Hako.

I don't think that's necessarily true. For a mainline, the Lotus 49 came out great. It helps that these dish wheels have a curved inner edge.

I remember someone saying in a previous thread that the chroming on HW's wheels tends to fade/flake off over time even if you're really careful with them regardless of the wheel style. The only solution people seem to have is to either do a full on wheel swap or just paint them.

I think a lot of it comes down to the oils on your hands, and how much the wheels actually rub against something. As well as the specific kind of wheel. The Ultra Hots discs are obviously really prone to damage. The ones on this GNX really didn't last long, but I picked it up at work and keep it on my desk and have probably handled it with some really gnarly shit on my fingers.

5SPs, in my experience, always tend to flake around the edges. I think it's just because of how raised the rim surface is, which is another reason I'm not super fond of them. I really wish they'd just retire them. We have so many better-looking options these days.

This thing really needs another mainline release. It got a premium with a meh deco that looks really out of place on a 50 year old car. It also got this toy fair exclusive which has an excellent deco, but it's unattainably expensive. The copper paint and rims with blue windows just speaks to me, though.

The 240 was popular as a support car in European rally racing, too. It was very reliable and had a great storage-to-performance ratio. It also came from the factory with a turbocharger and 5-speed manual transmission.

matchbox did a great 240 sedan recently, I was really hoping they'd get around to a wagon version. The 240 became really popular with car culture hipsters over the past couple of decades, so I'm hoping we get some more pandering.

That's some good taste there, anon. I feel like it's easy to overlook how great that casting is because it's "just another Corvette", but the sculpt is spot-on, and the stance, wheel size, and blown engine are just this side of being cartoonishly oversized. It's like the closest you can get to being a tooned car without being tooned—like a corvette version of Rodger Dodger.

Plus, green/black/gold is a GOAT color scheme. Probably the best on the casting. Although I'm also a sucker for the one from the 52nd anniversary "pearl and chrome" series.

It's getting a zamac deco that goes back to mismatched wheels. I want to like it, but I hate those 10 spokes on the front. I feel like this would be a great candidate for a real rider swap.

I had a matte black Ford Thunderbolt with gold decals that had the same stance as your car, but no blower sticking out the hood. I can't find it right now, but I have this Autoworld Galaxie that the Thunderbolt was based on and it's in a similar color as yours.

I actually got it with this Mach 1 Mustang at a discount because the packages were squashed. Both cars had bent wheels as well as the Mustang's spoiler, but miraculously had no damage to the paint. This type of crap happens to specifically to the Autoworlds that wind up at my stores. Bent cards, ripped off prints because some idiot put the packaging sticker on the card instead of the plastic. I managed to fix most of the damage so the cars look ok at a distance.

Yeah, I'd love to make the Ford LTD look like a cruise bruiser, but I get a kick out of taking all the cars that were obviously intended to be for demos and trying to make them into sleepers. It's wicked fun to tear around some tracks in the '65 Chrysler or the Crown Vic.

I found the ZAMAC 240 in at wally world today. it has different wheels—still mismatched—and smoked windows. Not sure what that pic is but I kinda like this better. The un-chromed rims really gel with the "unfinished" look of the ZAMAC.

Does anyone else like buying duplicate castings as much as I do?

It does depend on the casting. There are definitely makes/models that I tend to gravitate towards, especially when they keep releasing great decos for them. I haven't been in this game for too long, but the 240 Drift Wagon is definitely one of my favorite castings so far and I want to see more of it. I think it has a lot of potential.
