I think people mistake his awkward deliveries in an attempt at John Wayne to be "range", but he's arguably one of the worst VAs out of the principal cast. It's pretty clear they only hired him for the tone of his voice, and not his acting ability. He was better in the 86 movie, but I wouldn't say he had any "range" there, either—pretty much every line is the same stoic/wooden deliveries he gave in the Bayverse and Prime. Cullen is just a one-trick pony. But hey, he made a legacy out of it, good for him.

I liked Michael Bell (Prowl, Sideswipe, etc) as well, but he actually got better with age; in the Devastation video game from 2015, his performance was head-and-shoulders above the rest of the cast—a rare case of an actor somehow having MORE attitude as an old man.
I ended up playing as Sideswipe most of the time because of it, lol. All of his snarky remarks were perfect as I was trashing endless waves of Decepti-creeps. Fuck, I can't believe that was 10 years ago already.
