There's actually a third prong, in that it also makes cars increasingly unserviceable. Everything is loaded with proprietary software and so many computers that you're forced to take your cars to a dealership for many kinds of repairs, where they're just as likely to try and get you on the hook for a new lease so they can keep siphoning your money. Sadly, most Americans are proud consumers and will fall for it.
