The problem with this news is that it's a from a click bait site that's even worse than the ones that litter /co with superhero and comic news, and are on other boards like /fit and /lit and elsewhere, just shitting up their catalogues.

I think if they make less fucking POPs and made some other varied games, toys, etc., they could do well. They have an important thing, which is a brand name, and a distribution channel/marketplace.

I liked the 5POA First Appearance Supes they made and they could make and easily sell stuff like that.

I think you're right, they need to transition into the next phase of their company. They milked the ever loving shit out of fans for low effort statues, built and empire, acquired even more brand licenses and then they started expanding into other territories. Only the thing that they didn't keep doing was expanding, and they instead see the statues floundering on shelves, so knee-jerk reaction made them double the fuck down. It's a foolish and short sighted decsion, to believe that they can just keep printing money infinitely with minimal effort. They have built something, but are they going to do anything with it? That is the question.

The Godzilla Tokyo Clash game was incredibly well thought out and has a lot of charm; I've seen bandai & toho do a shittier job making Godzilla games than Funko for some reason. That speaks volumes to me that they know nerd culture and can do some of these IPs justice in order to 'give the fans what they want.' I wish a nigga would release another edition of this, or at the very least a tiny monster expansion set that gives you double the amount of fighters plus some updated mode rules.

That sounds pretty cool. I flt the same way about their FNAF Fight Line series. It was amazing, like a light strategy game using FNAF characters, selected from a team of FNAF fans, and promoted fairly well by Funko. It was loved by the FNAF community a like, and looked a promising future. They release it and then that was it. I think they shut down their entire Funko game section because .... I don't know, screw them for making good products I guess? So dumb, so very dumb.

POP! Figures should retain their "value" for collectors, because they are based on things.

for example, people who collect Batman, will still be impressed by the POPs of Batman. whether the company is still around or not. some "things" got nearly NO figure merch, except for POPs. if you want a display piece for that, you'll need to seek out the POP, it's your only option.

Beanie Babies were only popular to themselves, and thus lost the value once the bubble popped (heh)

if they stop making POPs, the collections become MORE valuable. years from now, people will "miss" seeing them in stores, new movies and shows will not get characters in POP style, some other company picks up the baton.... then it starts all over again: NEW POPs vs Original POPs...

This is what keeps those souless Pops selling. If some female toy collectors wanted a Lois Lane toy from this summer's Superman movie, their own choice was the Funko Pop. Not even Imagine Next made one of her. Ditto, I think, Cat Grant. Although I'm surprised there's no Jimmy Olsen.

MonPoc is like chess, where as the funko game is more like a traditional fighting game where you unleash combos on each other and power up super moves. Actually tucked into Funko's reports, its not dire, just down from last year. There's nothing at all in the article that says they wont survive another year.

I would personally like if POP! Figures looked more like Nendoroids, but their strength is the vague-ness, if that makes sense

you can put characters from wildly-different things next to each other, and they look like they go together. no matter what: anime, live-action, cartoon, real-person, they all maintain a simple design style that matches. (Nendoroid is similar)

and it ironically, usually, requires them to be displayed IN the package. while there are tons of iconic character designs that are recognizable by visuals alone, you often need the box to help tell you where the Funko POP is from. so in this case, box collectors have an advantage (double here, since the figures are not pose-able) they were designed to BE collectibles
