Does anyone know what's going on? I'm seeing people say the current CEO of Hasbro threw out the entire archive of toys but I can't find the source

Finding out that the current CEO of Hasbro threw out the ENTIRE archive of toys (given to them by ex-employees for preservation) is so rage inducing

some of them being 1 of 1 or rare older toys. Ponies, Transformers… gone… history gone…

I hope they get broken up. Toys being consolidated into a small few mega companies has been a fucking disaster and ruins all chances of getting a wide variety of anything released. They just like to rerelease and make slight updates of the same few franchises recycled from the 80s seemingly forever.

Ehh, it's not all that hard to make new molds from existing products and it makes a perfect 1:1 recreation anyway. So It's not like some things are lost forever and ever. I kind of doubt the company does not still have the actual figures on hand in some capacity that they can remold whenever they want to.

Note they're also in the process of moving to Boston so I don't see them saving much. I would HOPE they did but probably not.

It also happened at Hasbro Corporate back in the 2010s when they cleared out even more of the archive. The Modern Era Skystriker (not the later HasLab) was made from using multiple private collector copies of the Skystriker carefully taken apart of new molds made.

I was thinking that this was probably the case since they absorbed so many other companies over the years, although in this case it was Tonka had bought out Parker Kenner Toys (the whole toys/board games division from General Mills), then Hasbro buying Tonka. They also bought Lewis Galoob Toys back in the late 1990s as well. They also bought Milton Bradley back in the 1980s and Avalon Hill back in the 1990s. All of those probably saw their archives pruned.

I did a brainstorm session with Burger King several years ago and made references to their old 70's characters and they had no idea what I was talking about. I asked if they had an archive or a mini museum or just plain old records of old campaigns and characters for trademark and copyright purposes and they just shrugged. Hallmark allegedly throw away the master tapes from the entire run of the original He-Man series long before they could have been digitally converted, so I can see Hasbro doing periodic purges. If anything the modern corporate mindset is always "the past sucks, but our NEW ideas are awesome".

Sounds about right. The BBC is atrocious for preserving their old material, huge amounts of BBC television and radio material are now lost forever.

It's not that they threw it all out. It's that they never had the budget to keep purchasing more film and tapes for new content so they reused old film reels and tapes and recorded over old stuff for decades until a market appeared around the mid 1990s where customers actually wanted old episodes again.

That was the standard entertainment motto across the board everywhere until at least the 2000's. No one had any care about old things and never once assumed there was a use for old episodes of any past show. Not when they were meant to always look ahead and replace all existing shows with new upcoming shows. Most studios did have a kind of thought process like
>Don't worry about old shit, we can always make a new hit show forever and ever!
Which is why so many studios were very quick to cancel anything that was not making great numbers, despite still being moderately successful.

Decades old content being something in demand is a fairly new concept. It kind of started in the DVD era when studios discovered they can make an extra dollar out of an old cancelled show by cheaply tossing out a DVD collection that cost them $5ish for about $45-50 each. And it has been helped along by various recessions hitting production budgets causing a rise in repackaging old content again for a quick dollar.

One thing I don't get about Ford is--he is portrayed as not caring about these IPs and being extremely cynical. But then why is he still in these movies? By the merch royalties on the toys we all buy from the old films alone he should be rolling in cash. At his age with as much money as he has amassed, I doubt he has to continue acting, especially in more action oriented roles. It makes no sense. Why not just retire to a mansion somewhere and spend the money?

Hasbro never had most of these. Most of kt was in the hands of Takara or the back of whatever factory in macau ar China.

Shockwave, omega and sky lynx I think we're toybox. They seemed to still have them for the sky lynx encore release.

Bandai owns the jet fire mold. Its just the dyrl Roy fokker with a different nose cone.

Bbts had a reissue of the seacons ad well, and before that, beast wars II released them.
