Earlier color models had a meta-objective to raise every character to unlock things, but some of those characters require connecting to other tamagotchis. The P's is still the highest regarded color model since it has a lot of downloadable content (both official and custom) if you have a device that can send it things through IR.
The Connection V4 and V6 probably still have the most gameplay depth due to a school and jobs system with their own minigames and skill points, even with their websites now gone so you can't get the full experience
