McFarlane has a "house style" in the same vein that Hasbro does. They make a generic mash so all their figures fit together, aside from the odd ball cartoon figures (which Hasbro also has done). So the Capullo stuff fits with generic GLs McFarlane made.
Whereas DCD has Capullo stuff that won't look even close to the Bermejo figures, which looks downright strange next to the Jae Lee figures. Same shit with the Arkham games stuff.
Icons seemed to start off as a generic line, but they ramped up the styles with every wave. However, because DC was pretty keen on having a house style up until the mid-late-90s and that's when most of their figures released were from, the toys were still pretty generic.
I think everyone is well aware of how nearly perfect DCD's designer series have been in that respect and if McFarlane (or Hasbro) wanted to make a perfect figure, it's not like DCD used exclusive sculptors 100% of the time. All three companies use independant contractors, albeit some more in demand than others, and each company having their own in-house artists.
Considering McFarlane has been working close with DCC for the past two years, he probably had every opportunity to use one of DCC's sculptors and I'm sure he probably has (and i know Hasbro has used them too). So it just goes to show how they aren't actually aiming for perfect renditions; a generic looking line.
