1) Realize that real-life weathering and battle damage is more subtle than you think. LESS IS MORE, 99% of people trying weathering go waaaay overboard.
2) WEATHERED =/= DIRTY. Go watch some tank/plane modeling tutorials and copy those techniques. Those guys have weathering down to a science.
3) For the love of god please don't start jamming a soldering iron in. Don't go in willy-nilly thinking you know what you're doing. You'll end up with some shitty ass shit like in this pic.
Contrary to what most people think, weathering and battle damage is a precise science, not beating your kit up and rolling it in the dirt. If you want a good result, do research on real world weathering, do some learning from other modelers on YouTube, and then go at it carefully.
