And they knew they fucked up, which is why Sunbow's last stretch with the cartoon didn't mention Cobra-La at all beyond what's directly related to CC, CC was reconstituted into a serpent-man for which him being a serpent could be explained by the transformation process leaving a lignering trace, and Serpentor who was 100% human got turned into a lizard to get rid of him. And DIC was more than happy to run with a continuation of that instead of the Cobra-La narrative. And Larry Hama just dealt with it by claiming that CC is dead and bttle-armor CC is really a Crimson guardsman named Fred.
