>>9594143These fan attempts to map out the GSR further prove to me that "hard canon" doesn't really work with this franchise since the writers and concept artists didn't create the setting in a truly coherent or consistent way. They just threw all sorts of grandiose ideas around, vaguely tried to make them fit together conceptually, and left the rest up to fans' imagination.
Like in Faber's concept art, Karda Nui is a cavern directly under the GSR's chest plate, it's meant to be the robot's heart. Voya Nui was basically a plug in the chest plate itself. But in the written story, there's an entire separate dome with a continent between Karda Nui and the robot's outer hull, and Voya Nui was part of this continent, not the robot's chest plate. So there's actually two massive holes above Karda Nui that Faber didn't account for.
I also don't really understand why so much fanart makes the domes in the robot so big. Why can't they be smaller or at least thinner, to leave enough room for the robot's inner structure? The atmosphere of Earth isn't that thick compared to the diameter of the planet itself, so the sky domes inside the robot don't have to be that tall either. I know Karda Nui was said to be so huge that it was like a separate world inside the robot, but most fanart doesn't showcase that either.
