My first Metal Cardbot has arrived. Glober. 10/10 toy. Surprisingly weighty when I first pulled him out of the package. The plastic is really high quality, the paint apps are perfectly crisp and centered. The actual construction of the toy is rock solid, feels like a mid unicron trilogy figure, chunky and sturdy, and likely to last decades of heavy play. The vehicle scale is slightly larger than RID transformers, I don't happen to have unicron trilogy figures on hand at the moment.
The card weapon gimmick is actually really cool, I thought I would hate it. But it doesn't interact with the vehicle mode in any way. The whip has really sturdy joints, and the black ball segments are like a hard rubberized plastic, so the friction should be good for a very long time. The transformation is actually surprisingly complex and satisfying, no shell forming or parts forming, instead, extremely competent engineering instead. Most of the joints have ratchets, everything is very tight and tabs perfectly, using the old megazord style clips instead of the pegs and holes transformers still use. Almost no visible hollow sections accept for in places where they simply couldn't fit extra paneling. The robot mode is surprisingly posable, and will actually stand in dynamic poses quite easily. This is the only one I have so far, but as far as I can tell, this is an extremely well designed toy, and I am looking forward to ordering more.
