Men are more visual than women. Human pornography often looks different among gender lines.
A pornographic magazine is image based and intended to appeal to men. A romance novel is text based and imaginative, and intended to appeal to women.
Reading 50 shades of grey in the park or on a bus is fine, but reading a playboy is not, because of that visual aspect. I'm not saying I want people to read porn in public, I'm saying the social perception of an otherwise similar act is very different.
In summary, both men and women are hyper-sexualized in comic books, but it's only problematic for the women characters because of a double standard.
