I'm not sure if sculptors from Gentle Giant actually made some of those sculpts as the ones found at Comic Con 2012, but they're totally different sculpts, for totally different lines.
All of the Black series sculpts were done purely on digital and most weren't even started until 2013.
Those wax and clay sculptures? They're all 1:18 scale and sculpted either at the show or before.
Again, all those tini-tiny details do show up on the production figures. Again, step out of your basement and you'd notice that.
I saw the wax sculptures in person at that SDCC and bought many of those figures, some before that show, so I'm very familiar with their details.
