If you want a rival for your dragon man, I'd say the black knight as a play on the heroic knight slaying the dragon.
The biggest bang for your buck in terms of the basic figures is the Templar. He comes with a sword, shield, halbert, and standard. He also has the most paint details.
I'd reccomend for you to get the Deluxe Barbarian builder if you can only buy one. 2 helmets, 2 belts, 2 crotch flaps, 2 sets of pauldrons, and almost all of the helmet side decorations. You'll have fun mixing and matching the parts.
Note all the figures except the goblin are 1.0 figures. The Goblin is 2.0. The Dragon man is an Ogre size figure.
