>>6163210I think the goal, aesthetics-wise, in a base mode is to conceal the humanoid form as much as possible. Which is something that tends to be difficult to accomplish in larger figures since more articulate transformations can lead to stability issues.
A good, simple transformation can be enough for this though. G1 Fortmax forms a really solid looking building that blends everything together smoothly, and Tryp basically flattens out into a very low-profile base that makes good use of its robot aesthetics in base-like features. Metroplex on the otherhand, while having a pretty simple transformation that really doesn't hide anything on its own, has a nice uniform colorscheme that blends everything together in his base or ship modes.
Basically they just need to make sure it doesn't look like a robot laying down
