You have to check fairly often and know what sort of terms / searches / keywords middle age moms would use to list their moved-out kid's lego. Small example, once I found a decent lot where they called figs "mini men"
It's been harder and harder to find cool stuff from the era I'm interested in, but they do pop up sometimes. I also check the various goodwill listings but overall ebay is fairly picked through and it can be hard to find a good deal. Anything with obvious search terms is usually fairly competitive (especially castle).
There are SO MANY trash and overpriced listings, tons of ppl selling bulk w/o minifigs instead of true "collections"
