Looking at the original portrayal of Star Saber, he seems more like IDW Thunderclash to me so that MIGHT be why they decided to make SS some crazed zealot. Regardless I should really watch the Japanese G1 stuff Star Saber was part of. I wouldn't mind seeing all of those more obscure secondary leaders in the new Generations lines too, but that's beside the point.
>>7211600There's a difference between changing the personality of a character to make the story interesting and changing it because of lazy writing. And even more of a contrast between those and making most of the characterizations up as you go because the other mediums with those characters are being spit out as fast as possible so the toys can sell well.
Long story short, you can change character traits and make it work well as long as you know what the fuck you're doing and the core traits are still there. For example, Armada Starscream or Prime Soundwave to a lesser extent. I'm sort of on the fence about Animated Shockwave, but he was still written well enough to be good. Maybe Animated Prowl is a better example. Maybe it's really late over here and I'm tired as hell.
