One of the big problems (and I feel the same way about historical Lego sets) is that they lean too much on the two different factions concept. It's always one good faction vs a bad one. That's boring. The sets will end up boring. You need sets with all kinds of different knights, banners and all that, just for the sake of variety. The old sets featured many peasants too. I know they're not as exciting as a plate armor knight, but you need them anyway. It allows for much more imaginitive play.
Fortunately Playmobil has been reissueing some of their old sets. I hope they continue to do so and allow people to buy more of the classics.
