You think comic books were selling 60 million units every month just to kids? It was the fact that kids were reading comics aimed primarily for adults, like the crime ones, that led to their demonetization. Superheros weren't even that popular back then.
And yeah, the FCC really fudged over TV and radio, but fact remains that movies from back then were nearly as prudish.
