You can't head a company and be personally involved in every project. The fact he runs his own comic books and is the president of a publisher means he's already super busy. Add toy production, live action film, and animation, and marketing all his own shit, he has his hands extremely full and why there's no way he's actually approving every single thing.
There's a reason why almost every interview, George Lucas is sitting in some office somewhere talking about toys that are being shown 2,500 miles away. Whereas McFarlane is always personally at Toy Fair... and NYCC and SDCC and Vancouver Fan Expo, and various other trade shows. Doing trade shows actually requires full time employees, which McFarlane also has. Shit, and if McFarlane does art, he's spending at least an entire day's worth of work on one page, which is why it's rare to see original art from him now.
