Even accounting for all pandering I really just don't get how you can make a movie series that bad. Like by all logic you could make a story, fit in every bit of demographic pandering, and still follow at least the basics of The Hero's Journey. The original Star Wars was practically a pain by numbers example of the monomyth with equal parts samurai movie and flash gordon tossed in for flavor. There's zero reason a Star Wars movie doesn't practically just write itself. You could have have adapted any of the EU books. You could do literally anything. Any Star Wars fan could, in the span of a rainy afternoon, come up with a draft outline for a more fitting trilogy. This is easy mode.
